[Music] [Music] hello and welcome back to 5 minutes with the chief I'm Frank Milstead the police chief of the Mesa Police Department first off I want to give a little shout out to the community the uh Community has been very involved in some of our crime fighting efforts over the last few months we had uh two women that witnessed a kidnapping uh of a youth in our community um they didn't become immediately involved I think which was very wise but they did become great Witnesses uh they continued to follow and watch wrote down a license plate number had a good description of the suspect ultimately they were calling the police while this event was happening and through their efforts we were able toh take the subject into custody and ensure the safety of the child that was kidnapped so thank you for when you see something you say something it really does make a difference in our crime fighting model the Mesa Police Department is also hiring we are trying to fill uh five Academy classes over the next 2 and 1/2 years to uh take care of some of our attrition uh if you have friends or family that have always wanted a career in law enforcement uh maybe they're trying to avoid the polar vortex back East uh have them go to our website and take a look at our latest recruiting video and if they're interested there's an online application we have a new Commander out of our Central District John Williams so if you live in uh kind of what would be the Northwest part of uh Mesa your new Commander is John Williams at the Central District uh he was promoted last week uh we're looking for great things uh from him in the future uh very talented guy uh very connected with the community um if you get a chance to reach out to him and let him know that uh you're out there to help he'll appreciate it uh one other thing that's happened real quick is we uh went to full Council for the support of our axon video camera program uh I found out as of the last couple days that uh the program will be funded so we will be rolling out uh 100 cameras a year for the next 3 years for a total of about 360 including our existing cameras that we have uh each of our Academy classes as they graduate the new recruits will be issued cameras as a standard equipment I think that will help with the safety of our officers and the transparency of our Police Department uh over the coming years again thank you for your support and if I can do for something for you please let us know and uh thanks for your support of the Mesa Police Department [Music]
