I've been a police officer for five and a half years in the downtown core primarily. I used to work for the neighborhood response team. >> I'm seeing a guy that's on a drag net. That means second >> 2850. I'm from Portland, born and raised. I was a cadet here and I really want to, you know, make the city safer, more enjoyable for everyone. >> I think it's the dragon that telling you how to cut out. >> Balding guy in the city for dragonet. Hey, please don't fight or resist. Force be against you. Okay. I responded to a cold assault call September 23rd that um occurred in front of the ICE facility, but on City of Portland property on the street. The victim said that the person that assaulted him broke his phone and punched him in the face. >> Sit in the back of the car. I'll figure this out. It's officer Matthew. We were actually able to find your guy and arrest your guy that hit you in the face. Yeah. The suspect was arrested for harassment and criminal mischief, too, for breaking the victim's phone. >> You're doing your job and it's and you're you're actually working for work for the people and helping people out. Um, that's amazing police work. >> It feels good to close a case and let a victim know that we followed through and they kind of get some closure. That's the determination in the court to figure out what happened. Okay. We still investigate crimes that do occur on City of Portland property outside the ICE facility. We that's are still our job and we will still uphold what we're sworn to do. >> Thank you for your service, guys. >> Thank have a good one. >> We're going to a suspicious with a weapon call to priority one. >> What if you're you're at work? Put your knife in her left hand. >> It's tough. We're not going to make everyone happy. Frankly, people don't like to get arrested. So, there's always going to be a person that's upset, but if we can at least have their experience with us be a safe one and they feel respected, that's all I can ask for. >> And I see my co-workers do that on a daily basis. >> All right. Stay seated. All right. >> Okay. >> I think some of the perceptions of Portland are blown out of proportion sometimes. I believe Portland is a safe town. We do have crime, but in terms of violent crime, shootings have gone way down. Homicides have gone down. We still go out here every single day to make Portland safer. We just keep working for a better future for our generation and the next generation to come and make it safe, not just for the people who live here, but the people who visit our town. Uh, and make it a welcoming place for all. I want people to know that Portland's a great town. It's a beautiful city. We have lovely outdoor activities to do as well. And I hope at some point we'll get a baseball team. >> Guys, thank you for your service, guys. >> Thank have a good one.
