[Music] Good morning. I'm Mesa City Manager Scott Butler. Over the past several years, I've had the privilege of working closely with Mesa's public safety teams. Each day, I'm inspired by the dedication, professionalism, and integrity of the men and women who serve in the Mesa Police Department. Chief Ken CS has been an extraordinary leader. He has instilled a strong culture of trust, accountability, and community partnership. Thanks to his leadership, we have a talented and capable team of command staff who are wellprepared to lead. Today, I'm proud to announce that Executive Assistant Chief Dan Butler will serve as Mesa's next Chief of Police effective July 1. Chief Butler has shown outstanding leadership across multiple divisions of the department. His strategic vision and commitment to excellence have played a key role in advancing our public safety efforts. I'm confident Chief Butler will continue to drive innovation and deepen community engagement, two hallmarks of what makes Mesa one of the safest large cities in America. I want to sincerely thank Chief Ken Cos for his remarkable 30-year career with Mesa Police Department and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Chief Dan Butler. His experience and leadership have prepared him well for this next chapter. I look forward to seeing the Mesa Police Department continue to thrive with Chief Dan Butler at the helm. To our Mesa community, what you've just learned is Assistant Chief Dan Butler has officially been appointed by city manager Scott Butler as the next chief of police for the city of Mesa Police Department. This is a great day. Normally, it's a struggle for cities to look around the entire country and try to find somebody who has the qualifications and who's has the skill set to be a chief of police of a very large agency. And this this city manager did not have to go far. Our bench of commanders, assistant chiefs, and above is such a strong bench of folks that are dedicated to the community, dedicated to public safety, and dedicated to the employees of the department. I have to tell you that it's a point of pride for the Mesa Police Department, the city of Mesa, that they didn't have to look far. You are in great hands with Chief Dan Butler. He leads from the front. He is all about the citizens of this community keeping you safe, making this a great place to live, to work, to play, to raise your children, and he is all about his employees, employee wellness, and he's also all about the future. He's very strategic. He's very uh innovative and you're going to just see this department continue to elevate. So, we're lucky in the city of Mesa and you're lucky uh to have such a great chief. Hello, Mesa. Uh an exciting day for me. My name is Dan Butler and I have been selected by city manager Scott Butler to be the next police chief of the Mesa Police Department. This is incredibly, incredibly humbling for me. Uh Mesa is a heck of a city. Uh we have a heck of a community and I look forward to working with all of you in the community. I also want to thank Mayor Mark Freeman for his support and all of the members of council. I know they have a significant say in the fact that I get to become the next police chief for the city of Mesa and also those members in the community and you know who you are who reached out to city manager Scott Butler and offered your support for me to be the next police chief. Uh it is not lost on me that I would not be here without the members of our community. And finally, finally, uh Chief Ken Cost, who has been a dear friend of mine for a number of years and also an incredible mentor for me. Uh without his leadership and guidance, I wouldn't have this opportunity, and it is one heck of an opportunity. So, finally, I want to close by saying it is incredibly humbling for me to be your next police chief, and I look forward to seeing you out in the community. Thank you.
