Oh, where are you going? Okay. Hey. Hey. Uh-uh. Come over here. All right, stop. Come over here. Come over here. No, no, no, no, no. I don't want to go to jail, please. Please, I didn't do anything wrong, please. How many years old are you? 6 years I don't understand. I promise I was not trying to steal anything. Please do not do that, please. My 4-year-old will freak out, please. Arrogance could have been one of the first words used to describe these thieves. They could steal right in front of the police or deny their guilt when caught, [music] but none of it ever led to a happy ending. All of that unfolded in today's video. When shoplifters act completely unbothered taking a full cart at Walmart, we are This is Law. Don't forget to like and subscribe to catch our latest videos. Starting with this self-proclaimed queen of manipulation, lying seemed to be her second nature. This is a box of six. You should have only scanned one. But why, sir? Why did I scan one? I I really thought that you were being real, sir. On the 27th of December, 2023, police were dispatched to the loss prevention office of Walmart after staff detained a woman suspected of shoplifting. And the moment officers arrived, the suspect immediately used her very first seconds to beg for herself. I understand. Please, please, don't do that to me, please. >> Okay. Look, I will do whatever I've got to do. I'm sorry that I promise I was not trying to steal anything. Please do not do that, please. My 4-year-old will freak out, please. Do you Sir This is a box. You stole that today. This is a box of six. Which can only scan one. But why, sir? Why did I scan one? Because your employees in the past have told me it was set and I think she would even attest to that. And and I can even show you, sir, like at Target, that's how they sell them. It's $10.98, please. Additionally, police finished checking the woman's records. They discovered several other things from her past, but it appeared she tried to manipulate the truth surrounding it. Sir, can you at least be real? Can you at least like be a little bit more honest >> I'm being real with you. I know, but can you be a little bit honest about these that they Yes, they do come like that? >> We've had this discussion. You understand that you have been paying for only one box. Yeah, and I was honest and forthcoming with you and told you that that's what I thought and that I had. And again, I've tried to explain to you that you haven't lost any more certain state. Yes, sir. I have a Can I I've got 425 calling on a 27 out of George County. >> I don't have any warrants. I really thought that you could be real, sir. I got a 425 on it. And sir, when he actually stopped me >> I've got a 425 on it. wanted careful now I'm wanted? Yes, ma'am. For what? Uh something out of the county. I've only ever had a traffic citation there. It might be what it is, maybe you didn't pay your fine or something of that nature. So you got an outstanding traffic ticket also. Or outstanding something. Can we check that, please, sir? I know who it is. It's not for October County. I actually have that I have receipt actually on me that I paid for that. I like >> Because I just got into a car wreck just like 2 weeks ago. Wouldn't I have been arrested if I had an outstanding warrant? No, they just took it out. I don't know when the warrant was taken out. I I can tell you all this stuff once we get back to the car. Go and get you to the stand up to the jail and book you. >> this is a huge mistake. Also, I can I at least say something about this? This one? >> I'd like for you to see the footage of where when I scanned this I called the employee over to make sure that everything was correct. She attempted to deflect the very issue the officers were pressing her about. It seems she had just come up with something on the spot purely to manufacture an excuse for herself. >> Take a look at that. I I I just know about what loss prevention said. He's taking the warrants out. I'm just transporting. But I mean, can we not at least pull out the receipt to show where I I mean, I I called these the sheet over? I I saw exactly what I mean, it's six in a pack, 1099 a pack. You You scan it when? I mean, you you know they're 1099 a piece. I mean, you've bought them before, right? Yeah, but that's not how I purchased them. They See, they have a thing if you physically it's made >> I mean, I see it's it's in it's in a big box. You scan one of them. I mean, if you buy the big boxes is it 1099? No, it's twenty-something dollars. >> Okay, I see. Go and get the stand up from there. I cannot believe it. Can I call my parents Still I I got to at least to go get my daughter I'll let I'll let I'll let you Would you let me do that, please? Okay. Were you re- Were you refunding this or bubble bath also? Yeah, this this is No, I I purchased that. They're They're They're refunding Let me get a refund. They're refunding everything to you. Why? Because you can't take it to the jail with you. Dad. This is possessions. You want to leave any of the merchandise in here? There's one more. >> No, I I'm not I don't feel During the call with her family, she still did not admit her wrongdoing as if she refused to lose her dignity even bringing up her prior warrant. Hey, I'm going to jail for a warrant in Elbert County. I don't know. Yeah, he doesn't know. Can I talk to Dad? Because I don't under I don't think I have a warrant in Elbert County. I paid my traffic citation and I think it's a mistake, Mom. Is it I'm saying that correct, right? It's a warrant? For arrest. Okay. I know, Dad. I I but they don't this they're not Elberton, okay? So, they don't I mean, that's not their city. I don't know. But You know they refunded It's well What I'm saying I want you to go get your kid. That's that's what we need to talk about now. I can't have a whole >> can you have a Can you get a wizard? Elijah for tonight? Yes, a baby. Or she had a baby. No, they refunded my $100 worth of stuff I bought, right? Yes, ma'am. They were refunded. And the thing the item that he retained it for was $10.98. I don't know. He knows that I wasn't trying to steal, but I don't think it would matter at this point. Because of this warrant in Elbert >> this in? No. Okay. I paid for it. No, she paid for it. It's not on here. Yeah, it is. Oh, it's I didn't We didn't I know she paid for it. Okay. I promise I paid you for it. Yeah, I mean, I see it's $3.98, but then um here's her gift card for it. But it's It said something completely different. Even as she was escorted to the patrol car, she remained strangely cheerful, acting as if nothing serious was happening, convinced that she could still somehow change the outcome. Hey, sir. Were you able to at least see that I had asked the associate if that was correct? No, ma'am. I I just I just see the probable cause that it showed it that was six six little containers in there. Scanned across one time. >> them. I asked the I called the associate over here. And and you and you and you you you you better you a plain and witness is you better do all that stuff get get a uh video evidence. But he didn't notice that cuz he didn't say that to me. I don't think so. And and then then you you and him step in there right now and I bought 23 29. There you go. I mean they >> And so just so the next time I make sure I got this clear. So what is the dollar amount he's saying that I stole that I shopped with it? Uh yeah. The total amount was 63 cuz you scanned one of them and there was six There's six or so in there in the pack. Well there's six >> I mean I don't And one two three four five No no he said you paid for uh paid for the one you didn't pay for the five. Okay but that's not Okay okay. You scanned you scanned one and there were five more that were the 10 90. Right. In the end the woman was formally charged with theft by shoplifting. Denying responsibility and hiding behind excuses only made the consequences worse proving that honesty from the start was the only chance to limit the damage. Next this woman also was no less deceptive. That's a retail theft. Oh no no I don't have anything. You got Google on your phone? I'm standing right here Audrey. It's not that hard. On the 28th of January 2025 police received a report from Target about a woman who concealed merchandise while shopping. Upon arrival at the scene officers immediately faced the suspect's first act of non-compliance. You either give us your ID now or we we listen to me or we could add an obstructing charge to your retail theft charge. No I didn't touch anything. I don't understand what you're saying. Exactly where you didn't buy anything. You walked out with it. It's as simple as that. Listen it doesn't matter if you go through that first set or that second set of doors. You left the store you left the store without paying. Yes you did. You left the store without paying. You already admitted to it. So let's make Now let's make this let's make this Exactly, it's on camera. So, let's make this simple. Let's Let's get your ID so we can get you identified so you don't you don't get another charge. That way you're just getting charged for retail theft. Let us get your ID. We might have got off on the wrong foot. I'm trying to explain to you how this works. So, for retail theft, you walk past all the last points of purchase. Correct? Exactly, you walked past all the cash registers. Out with the merchandise. You You walked >> pass Did you not walk past the registers? Without paying. Yes, there's no yet. So, that's a retail theft. Oh, and I don't have anything. You got Google on your phone? Type in ILCS retail theft. What does that say? Attempt to steal or what? No, you did. You did not plan on paying for the items. Otherwise, you did. Then why didn't you go to the register? So, if you were getting caught, you were going to pay. That was I was still going to pay. That's good. Yeah. She had no intention of providing her ID, forcing officers to take additional measures to obtain her name. What's your first name? What was that? How do you spell it? Oh, there you go. Okay. What's your last name? >> [clears throat] >> Do you have a middle initial? What's your birthday? >> [snorts] >> I got to step out to run this cuz we don't have signal. Do you Do you want to try that again? Audrey Brown. How do you spell it? The way you told me to spell it. That's my name. I don't have a >> A U Pull up the picture of your ID, though. Stolen. Okay. Where do you live now? I live Where at? Around the corner. Okay, Charles or West Chicago? West Chicago. What's the address? 1610 earlier. Do me a favor. Smile for me. Let me see those teeth. Come on. Smile. So, was there a reason why you told me your middle initial was L instead of M? The system confirmed that the woman had a valid temporary license that was suspended, but officers also uncovered further lies in the personal information she had provided. 11503 12083 You said 03. I said 03. Come on, man. You don't want to play these games. I was there on next year, Audrey. 12083 So, what? You said 03. I said 03. We were all standing right here, Audrey. It's not that hard. >> So, why would I I don't have no reason to lie about my damn birthday on my ID anyway. I said 12083. Couple hours. Yep. Because um I depends on how much you ended up stealing. Could be a felony amount, could not be. It all depends. Did not even get the 300 dollars. As far as we know. That's what I heard. You got anything? Yeah, they got it all on camera. She showed no sign of remorse and at that point, based on the evidence collected, officers made their decision. Why y'all got to be like this? This stuff like this. I know it's tough, but it's our protocol. >> policy, unfortunately. Go ahead and give your phone to him. >> [snorts] >> You want to give my partner your bag to hold on to it. Audrey, you'll make phone calls at at the PD. We have to go. Can I go to the bathroom? No. Come on. The faster we get there, the easier we get through this. Okay. Give my partner your bag. You got long hair, huh? But turn around. Have you been arrested before? Mhm. For what? Don't even tell me retail theft. Mhm. What have you been arrested for before? Um no, I was in the car. Fair. Is that one? All right, let's see that on the other hand, okay? I'm going to roll up your uh sweatshirt, okay? Mhm. You got little wrists, so The woman was charged with retail theft and providing false information to law enforcement. What do you think about how the police handled the suspect in this case? Was it justified or could it have been handled differently? Leave a comment and share your thoughts. Even stranger, the woman went so far as to see herself as the victim. Sorry, I just I just felt I just felt shut out. Like, please help me. I just needed to get out of here. That's wild. On the 10th of March, 2025, police received a report about a woman shoplifting at Target, and when they arrived at the scene, it was truly strange to see her acting as if she had just been rescued from something. Keep watching to find out what happened next. Who is it? Who is it? They're going to kill me. They're going to [ __ ] kill. Who is going to kill you? So I mean, I know it's not an excuse, but But is it like a fencing thing? Sir? Is it like a fencing thing? >> What's a fencing thing? You know where they get people to come in here and steal stuff. Yeah, yeah. And then they sit and wait for people at the corner store. Yeah. All right, but are they like looking out, are they part of it, or are they just telling you to go steal and you give the stuff to them? >> look out like they look out and they'll wait by the door and call me and be like, "Hey, it's Do they call you? Uh no. I guess they're they're probably gone cuz they see too many people around. Okay. Where was that parked at when you came here? It was by the front. And then are they not there no more? Uh I don't know. I guess they instructed me to come in here. All right, you can throw that out and let's go back in there. The suspect admitted that she had agreed to steal, but claimed it was because her boyfriend had encouraged her. While inside the loss prevention room, she continued to act as if she were an innocent victim with no guilt at all. He told me if I didn't do it and steal stuff, he's like telling me I have to get this stuff for him or there's going to be consequences. Like he also like helped me out I guess. No. Who's he to you? He's like, okay, it's a guy I met on Facebook and like after we linked up or whatever, he gave me his number, but after like two or three weeks when we first started shopping, he blocked me on Facebook, but he I still contact him through his number or whatever. So we still he told me that he >> He gave you dope? Yes, he told me that he had to deactivate his page and stuff or whatever that so So he's supposed to be sitting outside waiting for you? >> Yes. >> Okay. Y'all sit tight. He's probably in the car. Okay. You know where he's at? Like towards the right row? >> the third row. Third row? >> Yeah. She said he's probably gone, but just drive there. >> Okay, yeah, yeah, I'll look. Uh what's your name? Mauria Smith. All right. M A R I A H? >> R I A. M A >> U R I A. Okay. M A U R I A Smith. Is she getting a total on all that stuff? Yes. She clearly committed criminal acts, but her face showed no shame at all even as each stolen item was pulled out by the police. Do you smoke? Uh no, this is No, no, no. What's in What is this? Uh, I think it's your bag. Is it theirs? Um, yeah. This all yours? Yeah. Yeah, it's ours. What is it, bags? I guess so. Target, yeah. Yeah, it's ours. And like, can you give me that right now? Can I give you this? This paper. In a minute. My watch. In a minute. What do you need to watch for? Cuz I want to put it on so like I can really go on my property. Well, you can just wait a minute. It ain't going to go nowhere. I know, but I still want it on my property though. You're still going to get the property. Okay, I just want to I'm sorry. >> [clears throat] >> Hm? >> [clears throat] >> [ __ ] You just came in and ripped them? I don't know. Is it Is this Target's too? Yeah, it is. It's Target brand. It's just that they look ripped. It's Target brand, but I was going to ask you anyway. >> I had already like had those. You had already had them? Why didn't you take the tag off of them? Cuz it's stuff that I had worn. The bag was in I got you. Like I said, this is the first time I've been in the store when I come in the store, I get some stuff for me. You need a lot more? Yeah, I would imagine all this is yours. No, I don't know this. I'm I'm coming to Target a lot. The woman claimed she had bought some items to downplay the situation, but that was not true. The total value still reached $780, supported by the store's video evidence. This is Target. Just stay there for like 10 15 minutes. Oh, you're looking at it through the thing? Yeah. So, I like confirmed for a fact that she was concealing before I called you guys. >> Which bag was she putting them in? The black bag? She had all types of bags. She had the like Target reusable bags. She had the grocery bags that she selected. She got the backpack. Um But [clears throat] yeah, she was just sitting there concealing for a while. I put it in the last shelf first. That's what she got it with. What time was that around there? >> This was 11:39. She was here from 11:29 to about 11:40. But I'll definitely gather the rest of it. Um I didn't pay. All right. And then just uh hit her once she goes out the door. Copy. So, she's putting them in all them bags that she picked up at the front. Yeah. And she grabbed like reusable bags that she selected like throughout the store. Are they called the reusable reusable bags? Yeah, they call those reusable What was that? Like we sell? >> Okay. The grocery bags are just after they call grocery. And because the woman had used fentanyl, police wanted to make sure she was fully alert before giving a statement. So, medical personnel were called to the scene. capacity, but well >> isn't cooperative. Well, I will take her to jail, but I don't think they're going to take her like that. Well, I mean, her pupils are normal. Oxygen's good right now. Her legs are just a little elevated. You what? Get her blood pressure and You smoked But if everything's normal, then we're good. Cuz I smoked it. I smoked it. You snorted it? >> it. You snorted it? >> She smoked it out of this thing. I smoked it. I smoked it. I smoked it out of foil. Okay. How much? Yeah. >> this is Something like two and a half two and a half dollars. Where are you trying to go? Don't try to go nowhere. I'm not trying to go nowhere. Okay. I smoked it. Okay. Do you do fentanyl regularly? I mean, if you guys think that we're going to have to take it anyway, though. Every now and again. You do it every now and then? Yeah. Okay. >> do it when he tells me to relax. When who tells you to relax? Not my friend no more. Uh we took her out. >> you mean not your friend no more? >> [clears throat] >> Is this a living human being that told you to do it? Yeah. Okay. And if he tells you to relax then you smoke fentanyl? No, whenever I go in the store he just tells me to relax. He tells you to relax? [snorts] When's the last time you saw this friend? Today. Today? Yeah. What's his name? Although she was assessed to be in relatively stable condition, the suspect did not make things easy, using the medical evaluation to her advantage by continuing to portray herself as a patient rather than a perpetrator. You're okay? It's okay. There you know there are resources we can go to. My mom she was she said she wanted me to go to rehab but but I don't You can. It's that you don't want to. Don't put it on but Pull your arm back a little bit >> In the end, she was charged with felony shoplifting, criminal conspiracy, and trespassing. When someone keeps blaming others and hiding behind excuses, it only deepens the consequences. Accountability cannot be avoided, and the longer you run from it, the harder the fall will be. Next, meet the man named Please. On the 14th of January 2023, police were dispatched to Walmart after receiving a report about a man causing a disturbance there, and officers had no idea that this time they would face an unnecessary chaos. But first, let us look back to the beginning when police initially approached the man. At the same time, the man also drew complaints from other customers inside the store. Okay. >> Okay, well he's being trespassed. Well, he was being rude and he threatened the one guy. Okay. Yes, ma'am. Thank you very much. Could you pull over or not really? No, I didn't. What's your name, man? No, I didn't. What's your name? I didn't say I was going to shoot you. >> Okay, I'm asking you a question. What is your name? The man was charged with disorderly conduct and threatening a law enforcement officer. Refusing to take responsibility and letting panic control your actions can quickly turn a minor incident into serious criminal charges. In the next case, the woman wanted to pay, but it was already too late. No, I I wasn't heading out the door. I was going to get some money. On the 13th of May, 2022, police received a report from Walmart about a theft that had occurred, and the suspect was believed to be a woman who had intentionally skip scanned merchandise, at which point officers quickly approached her after observing her past the final checkout area. No, I was heading out the door. Right now as I came out. >> hands behind your back. Okay, hold on, let me see. I was heading out the door. Put your hands behind your back. I wasn't paying for that. I I had paid for it. Ma'am, you're under arrest. No, I I wasn't heading out the door. I was going to get some money. I I'm going to pay for it and I had well sorry, I was going to put it well put it right here. I was I paid for it. Everything on you, ma'am. Don't stick a pin me me? I don't know. It was strange that she claimed she was heading to pay even though she was already near the exit. And even while being escorted, she still showed clear irritation about being arrested. Please. I don't want to get me in any trouble, please. I was I'm I'm sorry. I apologize. I was going to pay for it all. I'm going to pay for it right now. All right, ma'am. So, right now you're being detained on suspicion of retail Okay. Okay, we're just going to go to the asset protection office and get it all squared away, okay? Okay. Okay. It has a I'll pay for all of it. I'm sorry. I just want to pay for it all. You're getting All right, I'll meet you in the office. I'm sorry. I know I mean, I don't lie, but I've got the money. I'm going to pay for it all. The question was raised, if she truly intended to pay, why did she not do so before leaving? And shortly afterward, loss prevention staff also had their own separate conversation. This is uh if you want to throw this in her wallet when you get a chance, this is her gift card that she paid for uh Can I just pay you for it? Me? Yeah. Come on. What? Put a different ticket on it. I watched Please just let me pay Let me pay for it and I will give you all the money in the bank. I've got over $800 on me. I have a problem. I and I've been hiding no good stuff and I know I need help but I will pay for all of it. You put that in the bag right in front of me. I will pay for all of it. I promise you, okay? For everything. And it was my 50th birthday. And I will well I have a job. I'm going to California on Thursday. I I could pay for >> What happened to your wrist? Oh, I have a big arm. Oh, okay. A burn? Yeah, it has to be. It seemed there was no longer any denying her guilt and officers escorted her outside to the police station to proceed with the next steps. You got that on you? Keys in my purse, gangster. I can't leave. I don't have keys. You got them on your person? Yeah. Do you have my little whatever arm? Yep. We'll get them checked out. Reach inside and you can give who's at home. My boyfriend. He can drive your medicine up here, right? Well, I'm not going to go up on All right. previous retail theft convictions. Go ahead and third stool on the left. Before you sit down, I'll take the handcuffs off. The law says your second offense after previous conviction is a felony level offense. She was charged with retail theft. Her actions showed that claiming intent means nothing without proof, and once trust is broken, consequences follow, no matter how many excuses are made afterward. More astonishingly, the woman stole right in front of the police because she was afraid. All right, where are you going? Okay. Hey. Come over here. All right, stop. Come over here. I know you did. On September 7th, 2025, officers received a call from Walgreens reporting a woman suspected of shoplifting, but even more shockingly, despite the police presence, she remained completely unfazed and continued committing her crime. You guys have camera footage at all? Yeah? All right, where are you going? Okay. Hey. Come over here. All right, stop. Come over here. Come over here. No, no, no. No, come over here. Please, please, let me go. >> Hold on. I'm not going to Please, please, please. Okay. Please give me I'll I'll give you I'm at the front of Walgreens, 5,000. I got I will I will give you everything. Okay. I will >> give you everything I promise. I'm telling you I will give I will give you everything that I have. I just saw her shoplifting honey. Tell them to Okay, drop that. Put your hands. Stay back. Step back. I got 626. Okay. Put your hands behind your back. I'm not kidding right now. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. The arrogant woman stole right in front of the police and still believed she could beg her way out, but what made it even more ridiculous was the excuse she gave for her actions at that very moment. I know you did. No. Come on. Put your hands like you're praying. Like you're praying. Jesus. You're lucky I didn't taze you. You're good. And you start walking away from me. I tell you to stop walking. Do you have any weapons on you? No. Oh, I have a knife in my in my back pocket. Do you have any dope on you? No. No, ma'am. No, I have nothing like that. What did you take from the Hold on. I'm going to read you your rights. this makeup Yes, it I have makeup in in my in my pocket. I'm I'm so sorry. I really need I would like to do anything, but Are these men's or not? They're mine. You don't have any drugs or anything that's going to poke me, right? It seemed that her claim of being scared was genuine because the police discovered she had done something deeply embarrassing as a result of that fear. What did you shoplift? I have I have makeup in my pocket. Did you pee yourself? You urinated on yourself. Are are you are you on probation? No. Have you ever been arrested before? Uh like when I was like like 17 or 18. Okay, so these are the only things you stole. Is that makeup item as well? The same BB something? in in my pocket. It's what I have on me and it's because I just What are you reaching for in your I'm trying to get the stuff makeup that I have. This is okay. Like I literally moved here and start over. I know, but I'm so sorry that I I did that and I got like really I got really scared. You got really scared? I'm so sorry. So this and this? And then This and this? What else? Whatever is is on me. That's it. Okay, where's your driver's license? I don't have a You don't have a license? No, I do not have I do have a license. She has a a debit card over here. Yeah, I do have a debit card I do have a debit card. I'm good. I appreciate it. It seemed that her remorse at that moment was already too late and afterward the officers returned the items to verify their total value. So these are all the items that I found on her person. I don't know what they will total or the male if it's totaled over a hundred they want to charge her if not the male that's in that red tank top kept coming around the corner I told him to stay away just in case if he's over there. There's a couple of other definitely over like 15 bucks in there so Yeah, it's close enough to where I'd probably do it. If you want to press I mean that's fine we can >> If you guys can that helps us cuz we got to take her for resisting anyways. Okay. And so when they see it without a normal charge Right. then It kind of loses it. They're like, "Okay, well, she was fighting you." But we're like, "Well, she was leaving with the stuff, so the deputy did what she should do." So. Is there any way you can do an itemized receipt of these? I can do itemized. Yeah, I can do that. See, you have to use over one register. Okay. Thank you. Yep. Make sure you get whoever's name for the victim. Thank you, gentlemen. I appreciate it. In the end, she was arrested and charged with petit theft and resisting an officer without violence. Fear did not justify wrongdoing, and remorse meant little once the damage was done. Own your mistakes early because delaying responsibility only made the outcome worse. What do you think about cases like this? Get out OF THE CAR. ON FEBRUARY 25TH, 2022, police responded to a reported theft at Walmart. The suspect was known to have committed similar offenses before and had prior trespassing violations. Upon arriving at the scene, the situation immediately descended into chaos. HEY, POLICE, STOP. YOU BETTER STOP. GET OUT OF THE CAR. GET OUT OF THE CAR. GET OUT OF THE CAR. 304, I'LL SHOW THEM OUT THERE. 304. Are you at Walmart still? Yeah, I had a vehicle just from me. Looks like they're going out towards the loop. It's a white Looks like a Chevy passenger car. Did you get the plate? First digit. They're going out towards 4th Street. And they give the make and model on the Chevy. Impala. Impala. >> It's going to be a Chevy Impala. Looks like a black female driving. >> The subject evaded and resisted. The female has a wallet um leopard print. You're going to get charged, too. 14. So, the driver in the vehicle also cooperated by fleeing with the suspect. At this point, police and store staff were able to clearly verify and confirm the events. Stop. Cuz now we're going to file this and we got a whole bunch of accessories. Who who who saw everything? Well, they were all doing it. They were all doing it. He went So, I think um Brady got the selection on the speaker. By the time I met up, he had the speaker next to the backpack and then I watched him take it out of the packaging and put it in the backpack. I think Marshall seen it as well. We can do a statement, right there. Yeah, we can get it all right. I got to head to work. Um Yeah, don't worry about it. Just But, I just got to get everybody who saw's info. Okay. Was everything recovered or Yes. >> Yeah. Where'd she drop the stuff at? Oh, the female. No, it was it was a dude. I think it was a female. >> That's a female? I thought it was a dude. Just huge. What is this? Yeah. I'm being serious. Look. Oh, wow. That's a female. That's a female. >> They must be lesbians. It has to be. Or family. I don't know. That looks like a dude. At first, from my point of view, yes. I could not tell. And I was not going to keep looking, either. So, everything was recovered? Yeah. Yeah. Where'd she ditch the stuff at? >> She saw it right at the right at the entrance right there. The guard after she passed off on the same Three doors. Three on the right too. 15 on 7th and dropped. She left [clears throat] left. >> Three males, white males, right there. She dumped the cart after all going to sales, ran. You got that on you? >> Everything in the bag, yeah. Yeah, we need to >> When I when I went after Yeah, we we'll get that whole thing. I almost got her. I got to turn in the seat. Good job. >> damage? 13367. Good one. Good one. He did. Glad to be there. Seriously? And I've got all his stuff here. It's a remote remote start for the lights. Is that everything they're trying to steal? That's all his. The suspect's identities and the vehicle's license plate were confirmed. Based on this information, another team intercepted the car as it arrived near the suspect's residence. Hello. Can you roll your side window down for me? 1507 Miami Gardens. All right. Okay. Yes, I just came from Walmart. >> Yes, ma'am, you sure did. >> He just tried to attack me cuz he caught me stealing. I had an officer Yes, ma'am, he just tried to attack me when I came out of Walmart and he and he scratched me. 1507 Miami Gardens. Okay. Resisting an officer and evading the scene is not how you solve that problem, right? Well, I was scared. Like I had six people on me. They're doing They're doing um a shoplifting thing. So I went in there to go get a headlight. I had my talk about I have a speaker and I have a pair of boxes that belong to my brother that is in their bag. Okay. That was already in the bag when I went to Walmart. All right, do you have your license with you or an ID of some sort? No, ma'am. I'm I was going around the corner to go talk to my mom, but I live right there. Okay. What's your name? It's Lauren. I'm on probation, that's why I ran. I got scared cuz I did I before I went into took them and got on probation, I got in trouble for shoplifting. Okay. At that Walmart and I was told not to go back cuz that's the only Walmart that had my license I mean my The woman went to a location where she knew she was trespassing. Her excuses seemed entirely unconvincing and shortly afterward she also had a separate story written. I went to the store I went to the auto I asked the man if he had the light bulb he said they don't have my specific light bulb here. I walked up to the electronics to see if cuz my phone is broke. Okay. >> So I tried to see if they had a phone like unlocked phone for straight talk. Okay. And the lady said they didn't the only one they had was the 11 and I was like actually after that I went out to the garden center whole bunch of people started coming at me scratching me pulling on me and I got scared so I I got in the car. Okay. And then the officer had his hand on his gun I got scared I got in the car I'm on probation. Okay. Well we made a series of not so wonderful decisions okay so now we're going to have to kind of work it out okay and figure out what's going to happen what's going on. Do y'all know who lives here this way you pulled over? >> I just pulled over. Okay. I live around the corner over here I live straight up the road. Okay okay yeah they we were able to get the license plate on the vehicle and that just left your house we were driveway. I just got scared I just got scared I that's all it really was. Okay. I didn't resist or anything I was just scared. Okay okay. >> I'm on probation. And you said you're on probation for shoplifting? >> No ma'am I'm on probation for a DWI. DWI? All right well hang tight I'll be right back and what is your name darling? Yeah she didn't have nothing to do with I got scared and I told her to drive. What's your birthday Miss Washington? The female suspect surely knew that her actions would cause serious trouble but in reality she had no idea that she was also bringing additional problems onto her friend. What's that say? Okay Victoria. All right I have a question can >> Yes. Miss what's her brother can she drop my car off with my sister? And take my car? No ma'am. No is she going to? She's going to. She didn't have anything to do with it. >> you when the officer Shortly afterward more stolen items were discovered in their vehicle. Okay. So, has she admitted to it? Yeah, she admitted to it. I got it on BWC. What did the driver have to say? Uh she said she didn't know what was going on. She was scared. All that stuff. I got some Walmart Wrangler pants in the bag in here. Yeah, that's They They saw her concealing certain things. It's going to be over over 100. It's going to be It's just a 750. Okay. I like a Every time he closes something, I think they're hitting the rear back seat. Okay, so we got um car freshener, red hoodie that is torn where he grabbed her arm. So, the passenger's Yeah. So, I'll take a picture of that. where it In the end, the suspect was charged with theft and resisting arrest, and the driver was charged with evading arrest detention. Avoiding, resisting, and deliberately withholding information only makes the situation worse. Cooperating with authorities from the beginning is always the safest choice. Next, we moved into the back to watch this unremorseful scammer in action. At this point, would I just be like, "Can I just take the charges and leave?" I sent you on a mission to try and cash this fake check. Nobody sent me on a mission to do anything else. On the 7th of August, 2024, police responded to a reported fraud at Seacoast Bank, where the suspect was believed to be a woman who attempted to cash a check. And when officers approached, she provided a highly questionable explanation about the origin of the check. I don't I just explained to her I don't I don't cash fake checks. That came to me by my billing address. It was a company that I used to work for doing the like before the pandemic came. So, you know, I even reached out to the bank myself. You know, and I even said, "Hey, this was sent to me by my mailing address." I don't need to cash a fake check. I have a legitimate job. Okay. You're ready? So, I'm just saying like I don't need anything on my record cuz I ain't never been in jail for no fraud, nothing. So, that's one thing for sure is like I've never been to a jail for fraud. I've never did fraud. That's like the second check I got by mail. The first one I just tossed it because it was like, you know, hey, I don't But if you look at the back, there's no watermarks or So, so I don't deal with checks anymore. I usually get everything strictly deposit. So, that's what I'm like hearing is like, "Hey, I even called them before I came here." And said, "Hey, can you guys verify this over the phone?" She said, "No." >> have the letter, the mail? >> no letter. It just came in an envelope. Do you have the envelope? Uh no, I don't have the envelope. Sorry. The woman insisted that even she herself was confused by the check. And although the employee acknowledged this, there were still factors that made them suspicious of her. Did she try to cash it or Cash it? She gave me it. Okay. Uh-huh. Okay. She's saying she just came in here to try to verify its validity. She asked to verify the check. I asked She spoke to her. She told her that she'll verify it. Once her intention is to do with the check, she was She wanted to cash it with us. I asked We asked her where the you know, checking from. If I'm not mistaken, she said that she'd been waiting for it. She's calling. So, And I think magically just now her line got cut off on the check. Yeah. What is my next of filing a complaint against the company that sent me that? No, we'll be we'll be there in a sec. Do you still live at the address on your license? No, I was going to change that. Um I meant to change my address. So, I'm kind of going to change that on my next day off. That's the I'm in the process of moving. So, that I got to change my license on this week. Well, next week cuz I took today to break it down, finish moving, doing errands, and everything. Fair enough. And just like I explained to the young lady, I was like, I don't deal with checks, period. Like I usually have my bank to call and verify. I usually come to the bank where the check is issued to to have them to verify it. That's why they go to my own bank because I didn't want to deposit and then have fraud hit on my own account. That was her explanation for going to a bank far from home. What do you think about that explanation? Yet, despite everything, she still believed she could take the money and leave easily. At this point, would I just be like, can I just take the charges and leave? So Even though it's not like So, you're admitting that you did something? No, I'm just saying >> So, why would you even want to take the charges? Just so I can go. Well, you're not leaving. If you take the charges, you will go to jail. Leaving longer than 30 minutes. And if you was to see a from that company come with signature there would be close. Okay. No one near close. And then you know, my people was like go to the bank, check it out because you don't want to just stress something that could be what they owed you. And I was like, yes, yes, I really don't need it. I have I have two jobs now, you know, like what do I really need it? But then They got a hold of somebody at that company. They didn't Well, I tried it. Nobody answered the phone. And I don't know what did they say? That is not a good check. I been really busy and moving weight and working wise, so I have been like taking the time out to come to my a bank or go to my bank. At this point, officers worked in parallel directly questioning the woman about any intent [music] to commit fraud while simultaneously contacting the company named on the check. >> Hello. I don't find out what this Hey. Hey, how you doing? This is Officer Boyne with OPD. I'm doing good. Good. Um so, I guess a check from your company was they attempted to cash at the Seacoast. That's what I'm saying. I can give you the manager's phone number. Can you give us his name? Michael. Michael. It's a very common name. Oh, please don't make me try to remember the last name. It's it's There's probably 20 Michaels that work in our department. Do you guys want to press charges? I mean, somebody somebody was trying to defraud your company of $9,000. It's up to you guys. But I mean, like So, we see this a lot. People get checks from people on the outside. They're like, "Hey, go to this bank, check the account, or cash the check, and I'll give you a percentage of it." No. None of that happened? >> Nobody told me to cash anything. The check literally came by mail. You didn't print that check yourself? >> No. You don't have a printer in your car? Cuz I've seen that, too. I don't have a printer in the car. If you want, you can literally My car's like literally right there. As the questioning continued, more inconsistencies appeared in her statement, clearly suggesting that the check had been prepared by her, as she could not even accurately recall the details tied to it. Last month, I got a check by mail from a company that I used to work for. Um Last month? Yeah. Okay, what was the name of the company? It was um I don't remember my name. I just know it was a call center, but they had closed down Okay. >> the pandemic hit. Okay. But How long did you work there? A year. A year? Like 6 months to a year before the pandemic came around. Okay. So And you don't remember the name of the company? You know what? You know what? I'm sorry. You should have asked. I I worked so many jobs after that just trying to stay afloat with your bills and everything. Okay. But You got direct deposit from them, or did you get paid by check from them? From them, I got direct deposit. That was like a long time ago with that old bank. Okay, so you don't bank with that bank anymore? >> bank with Chase no more. Okay, so when you worked for them, you banked with Chase? Yes. >> You got direct deposit from them via Chase? >> Yes. Okay. Um Then after I left from that job, I went and started working I didn't go to McDonald's right away. Mhm. I applied for McDonald's, but they said I don't have the qualifications skills. So, I went >> Really? Wow. Okay. >> So, I went to SeaWorld, got hired at SeaWorld, Universal, and Yeah. Oh, you went to North? Additional finance department. Okay. So from Chase you went to additional finance or No, I went to like a different bank after that. I went to Wells Fargo after Why do you keep moving banks? Cuz like I had Chase Bank since I was in high school. Like >> You know? Well, first I started with Bank of America, but then you know, they start talking about how Bank of America is scamming people and all this stuff. Then that's why I moved to Chase and Okay. So the woman had experience dealing with multiple banks, raising the question of whether that was the reason she was able to recognize the issues with the check she brought in. So you were skeptical about the check? I just kind of just pushed it to the side cuz I had a lot Why Why were you skeptical about the check? Because Was it the way that it looked? >> Yeah. Where is the check at? It was the way it looked and it was just like What What about was skeptical when looking at it? What looked What looked weird about it? Well, when a check is never just big Okay. I'll just, you know, be straight forward. It's never just big. I've seen a couple checks that are new with the Um the little gold stamp thing. You know, I've never seen a check with a gold stamp or silver stamp, I'm sorry. And it was just on the back. What about the back? You can usually all say no carbon. But it was just for me it was like I just folded it and I don't like anything. Just look at the check. And I just literally put it in my wallet and I was just like Did the font throw you off a little bit? Yeah. So looking at this check right? Using everything that you pointed out to me right? It's probably fair to say this is a fake check. Yes. Yeah, all right. Um All right. It was very likely that the woman had prepared her story as a fallback once police arrived and at this point officers tried to extract the truth from her. The top of the window panel have a couple questions for you. Okay? And this is where I just want you to be truthful with me at this time. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Cuz you ain't been 100% with me. Yes, I have. Oh, you have. And that's okay. Cuz I I got a quick memory. It happened. It's gone. I ain't even worried about it anymore. Okay? But I am worried about you at this point. Cuz someone got you in here cashing a check that you know is fake. Okay. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. No, listen. Listen. I don't think I looked at it vitamin off. That's why I probably was like I brushed it off. >> Mhm. I was going to shred it myself. But like I said Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All the co-workers is friends of my family but they somewhat like family. Oh, yeah. It's a little chit-chat cash it. You know, I got my money type of whatever. But but you you and I both look at this check and you just told me that it was fake pretty much. >> Yes. All right. So Actually this is why I So so hold on now. Hold on now. I'm just going to everything that you told me in the conversation so far, I'm going to tell it back to you and you going to tell me how this makes sense, right? Okay? You say you work at a call center, right? This should This should be a call center check. But you don't even know their name. I don't remember their name. No, no. This check is from construction ink. That's not a call center. Okay? For one. All right. Even if you did work at this company Okay? I called the company. We talked to the company. They don't know you and they don't know no Michael Cole. They don't know Michael Cole? Listen. Listen. Listen. Actually listen. Listen. Okay? That's not true. Okay. All right. So, I'm going to let you look at this check. I'm going to let you think about everything that you just told me. All right. I'm going to give you a second. And I just want you to tell me the truth about the check. I didn't use the check. I didn't use it. Now, listen. Listen. Listen to me. Under police pressure, she eventually revealed more of the truth, introducing the involvement of her boyfriend, whose name appeared on the check instead of hers, contradicting her earlier statement. So, in the beginning, me and him had a relationship. >> Okay. Like you could see. A relationship over text? No, we was really in a relationship. >> Like you guys would see each other in real life? Yes. >> Okay. Then he moved, you know, over there, where he's at now. >> Where is that? In Connecticut, overseas. Okay. Overseas in Connecticut? Dustin, he said he only went to Connecticut. >> Okay. Um personally, I was like, "Okay, we can try and make this work." Mhm. Then I thought about it. I was like, "I don't want to do a long-distance How long have you guys been trying this long-distance relationship thing? A good little minute. Okay. How good a little minute is what? A week? A month? >> I'm just saying. He's like, "I'm going to send you a check to pay for your expenses." Okay. When you use the check, what did you say? But I waited until I had a day off to say, "Hey, I came to the bank and I said, 'Hey guys, I got a check in the mail. It felt a little awkward for me to go to my bank to deposit it. I know it took a long time to process or whatever the issue may be.' And stuff. And I was like, you know, "Can you guys verify this?" I was like, "I don't >> Tell them. Tell him call me. And then tell him the police don't believe that story when calls. Like I'm honestly telling you the truth. I think whoever this person is has sent you on a mission to try and cash this fake check. Nobody sent me on a mission to do anything. No. Okay. I'm telling you the truth like 100%. So, the check was not sent by a stranger and it was clear that the woman was directly involved with the fake check leading officers to place her under arrest. >> I've never been arrested before. I have never had anything to do like anything and it's just like it's really difficult for me to even try to process this. Because it's like I've never had to to do any of this before. >> actually stand up for us. Stand up for us. I'm sure we can we can go ahead and contact her in a second. So, I will I'll let her know. Please. Can I Can I please call her? We'll we'll call her in a second. Stand up. I'm telling the truth though. Like I've never had anything to do You guys don't even have to arrest Yeah. Can I just call her, please? I'm sure it'll be a couple call her in a I want to call her on my phone, please. I At this point you're going to be in custody or else we'll take you to jail.
