Okay. >> So we're not worrying about money. >> I've never been through nothing like this. I've never been to jail. I've never saw anything in my life. >> This is my last time before I put you in handcuffs. Give me the purse and everything and get in the back of the car. >> From those just entering their teenage years to women with families and even someone making $25,000 a month. We pay for We just don't do it again. >> I'm not I'm not a thief. I know. Still I >> On the 12th of June, 2023, officers responded to a Walmart after receiving a report of a shoplifting incident. The suspects, believed to be two young women, had already been detained inside the store's loss prevention office. This is what happened when officers arrived at the scene. >> You're stealing. What do you mean? Why? I'm not trying to put you in handcuffs, but let's go. competit. >> Come on, let's go. >> I literally didn't steal anything. >> She just said, "Y'all pass the last point of entry." So, technically, y'all >> We can't give you the money. We didn't I didn't >> It's up to them. >> I've never been through nothing like this. I've never been to jail. I've never saw anything in my life. This wasn't a thing. Like we literally have so much going on. Our dad is going surgery. My mom bust her [laughter] head open. It's a lot right now right now. That's why we're staying with a friend and we have not literally got up to go shopping for crunches or did anything because we're just going to >> That's up to y'all. Understand? So, let's go. We're going to jail. I thought >> Can you come home? Like curing. Like that's beyond me. >> Call me. Can I please get a tissue before I go? >> Oh, I don't have any. >> This is why we're going to the car. >> Please. >> No, we're going to the car and we can have all the conversation you want to have. >> Please. >> Can we please go? >> The suspect tried to gain sympathy by bringing up her family's difficult situation in an attempt to clear herself of any wrongdoing, but it clearly changed nothing. She showed no real remorse and even while being escorted outside, she continued pleading with the officers. >> I literally didn't feel anything though. I was just sitting there the whole time. >> Please. >> You got anything illegal on you? >> No. Please. >> Face the car. Let me pat you down real quick. My god. >> What did I do wrong? Can you please watch the tape? I didn't scan anything at all. >> Wait, sir. Wait. >> Look, I'm really trying to be nice with you. Give me your purse and everything. Okay. >> Can I please go get my sister? Can you walk with me? >> No. I'm trying to be nice. >> Okay, let me just go tell my mom. >> You're not calling nobody at this time. This is an investigation. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. >> So, get in the car. Give me the purse and get in the car. >> Wait, can you tell me what's going to happen? Please, >> look, this is my last time before I put you in handcuffs. Give me the purse and everything and get in the back of the car. >> Give me that. >> Okay, >> that too, please. Shortly afterward, the officer read her Miranda rights and gave her one more chance to admit what she had done. But it seemed she only disappointed the officer. >> Do you wish to speak to me about this time? What happened? >> No. >> I have a question. >> It's a yes or no. How you going to You can't ask me a question without asking without saying yes. >> Yes or >> no? So, you would like to talk to me at this time? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I just have a question for you. >> What was your intentions when you came into the store? >> My intention was to get groceries and go home. >> So, why you guys So, what happened in between that time and y'all trying to walk out the door? No, when we were getting the groceries, the lady kept coming up to us. I told you I got a lot going on. I'm not paying attention. I'm just put She putting the [ __ ] in the cart. I'm Okay, cool. Like, we just want to get the groceries, go home. We got an appointment at 6:40. Our intentions was to never steal. You can look at her purse. We got money. We have money. We paid with Link. >> In fact, the suspect had passed the last point of sale without paying for any of the items. The officer also questioned her about that. >> So, how do So, why did you guys cross the last point of sale? >> What do you mean? She literally came to our car and said, "Okay, you guys scanned everything. Okay." She was checking our cart. She Okay. And we were like, "Okay, cool." She just kept coming to us and then she was in the baby face. And then it was like a lot going on. And so, she was like, "Okay, you guys getting everything. You're good to go. Have a great day." And we're like, "Okay, cool." not thinking anything of it. We walk out and the lady stopped us and we were like, she was like, "You guys didn't scan a couple things." And we were like, "What?" The lady literally just told us that we scanned everything cuz she checked our car before we left. And so we went in the room and she said, "I'm not going to I'm not going to um I'm gonna" She said, "I'm just going to let you guys go before the police start. You're just going to get a trespassing pass, a trespassing thing to just go because this is like your first time >> ever like doing this >> or something like that." And we were like, "Okay." And then you came and then she said something different. So we're looking at her like, "What? You literally just said that you weren't going to call the police. You were just going to let us go and I've never stolen nothing in my life before. I'm not a thief. >> While one woman continued insisting they had done nothing wrong, the other showed little concern. That only made the story they were telling seem even more suspicious. >> Wanted to represent you before any questioning if you wish. You could decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes. having these rights in mind. Do you wish to speak to me at this time? >> No. Okay. Just to let you know, you aren't under arrest for retail theft, >> but I'm going NTA you. Okay. So, that mean you'll have a court date. >> So, you have to be in court. >> So, I can just go home. >> Yes. But you will have a court date to where you'll have to appear in court. >> She went to jail. He literally >> who? my friend. >> We both were at the register paying for stuff. >> Am I getting arrested? >> You hung up the phone. >> But anyways, you both are doing it. >> So, she'll get arrested, too. She'll get NTA, but you will have to appear to court. If you do not appear to court that on the paper that I give you, they'll put a warrant out for your arrest. I'm trying to cut you apart and give you NTA. This is why I didn't put you in handcuffs and I'm not going to send you up. >> Thank you so much. I'm so sorry. >> Don't say sorry to me. Just don't do it again. >> I'm not I'm not a thief. I don't steal. I'm struggling. >> She just showed me footage like this. >> Don't make the same decision again. Okay. >> The two women were charged with retail theft and criminal trespass. A difficult situation is never an excuse for breaking the law. And honesty is always better than making excuses when facing the consequences. [music] Next. This woman allegedly chose to shoplift despite having plenty of cash on her. You can buy this. Did you buy this? >> Oh my god. >> So, we're not worrying about money. This is your money for your >> On the 22nd of March 2023, officers were dispatched to a Costco after receiving a report of a woman suspected of shoplifting. She was accused of concealing a $99 bottle of wine. However, according to the store's loss prevention officer, this did not appear to be her first time. >> But right now, she's concealing what? What? How much? a $99 bottle of wine that she did. Two weeks ago, hit us for two bottles. A week ago, hit us for one bottle. Uh, and we make them because now I have her 28 female. Here's what she looks like. Our manager was at her shop couple days ago. What >> she put the wine in. inside that coat that she's carrying. Okay. >> So, she's wearing all white. So, you >> guys got everything on video too, >> huh? >> Everything on video. >> We can see it. Well, we got the selection on video to the camera right after we consume it. We We saw that. So, that's we heard about that and then uh Yeah. So, it's fine as long as Yeah, she passes. >> Well, I mean, we had one of your sergeants, too. I was on the broadcast years ago. >> Sorry. I'm sorry. >> I didn't have I didn't have someone to play. >> Exactly. >> So, some last night we got with you guys was a month ago and you came in and we played with a $950 check cuz I got them for like seven or eight. >> So, they me the car, right? I'm going to check the car real quick. Make sure there's nobody inside the car. Yes, sir. >> Immediately afterward, the loss prevention officer also provided surveillance footage capturing her actions to further support the allegations. >> All right. So, I know you were talking about having >> So, that's was some time ago when she got gas so I can get her vehicle information. Yeah. >> Uh that was when she concealed in that bag. >> Mhm. >> Maybe 3 weeks ago. That was her at the register buying whatever she buys. Um, so I don't know if she's the RO of the vehicle, but that's her install. >> So her first uh 65 was two bottles on the 22nd, same price, $99.99. >> Okay. >> Uh she checked out and then the first bottle, another bottle on the 8th. She hasn't been here since the 8th, but she's been coming on Wednesdays. So Okay. >> And the report was uh taken for those. No, we haven't done anything because they want to get detected. Yeah. >> And >> No, no, I know. Yeah. As long as she comes out the door or gets her receipt check. So, >> the letters. >> At that point, officers were notified that the woman had been spotted. They quickly approached her, prevented her from leaving, and detained her. >> Come here. Come here. Come here. Put your hands on your back. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. Listen. Let's get out. >> All right. There you go. You're >> being entertained. All right. You're being entertained right now. Put your hands behind your back. >> I keep praying. I keep praying. I keep praying. For you, please. >> I keep praying. There you go. Keep doing it. So we going grab your bag right here. Got 4 pin. >> Yeah. Go to the office. You want to go to the car this way. >> The woman was then escorted to a patrol car where she admitted to stealing several other items. Officers immediately searched her bag and found the unpaid merchandise inside. >> I just want to know. Okay. So, question. >> Yeah. >> How this is yours? >> You said, "Did you buy this?" >> No. >> Did you buy this? >> No. >> Did you buy this? >> Did you buy this? >> No. >> You bought this? >> No, I'm not. >> You did not. Okay. Yes or no? Did you buy this? >> No, you did not. >> Did you buy this? >> No. Buy this. No. Did you buy this? >> This is what for your work? >> Yeah. >> Anything in here? >> So this for your hair salon? >> Oh my god. >> So we're not woring about money. This is your money. Put your hair on. You're not worrying about this. about these stuff that coming out here. >> Did you buy this? >> I asked you about that. You said all you was medication, right? >> Yeah. I just want to make that uh >> Okay. >> All this is extra money that belongs to you. Nothing else. >> No drugs, anything in there? >> No. All right. Is this a lot of money? >> Officers found a large amount of cash in her possession, suggesting that she had the ability to pay, but chose to steal instead. They then continued questioning her about the previous theft incidents. >> So, um, >> on 222, we've got you selecting two bottles, one at that time and that time. Our inventory auditor marked them off as steps so we know you took those bottles because we don't have them. Another bottle after that. Now totally your choice on whether or not you want to repay for the bottles you've taken in the past. I have you on film taking the bottle. If you want to, we will ring you up a receipt and give you a a total amount to be paid for those three bottles. If you don't, I will be at first appearance with you trying to get restitution from the judge in a month or 3 weeks, however it is. Do you want to make payment for the bottles that you take? Let's go to the back of that car, please. Thank you. Have a seat. In the end, the woman was charged with petite theft in the first degree. Stealing isn't driven only by need. Repeated choices can lead to criminal charges, permanent bans from businesses, and lasting legal consequences. Next, [music] this woman even involved her own family by having them use the items she had stolen. >> Lieutenant, >> I did a bad decision. >> But what happened after you took the keys? >> Um, I went and made a purchase. >> On the 14th of June, 2024, officers responded to a report of a stolen debit card. The victim reported that the card had just been used at a Foot Locker store inside a shopping mall. And the evidence quickly led officers to a couple they approached shortly afterward. right now. Follow my explain everything to you. I got my own right here. Investigation or what? We got more. We got space, right? >> The baby in the stroller. >> Huh? Get the baby in the stroller. Now you detain where we right there. Both were detained to ensure the situation did not escalate as tensions began to rise. Even while being escorted outside, they showed little interest in helping resolve the case quickly. Instead, avoiding the issue by focusing on everything but the investigation. >> I'm open for my baby. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, we ask you to stay over here. Now, we're going to put you in the car. All right. downstairs. >> There you go. Right here. I'm not moving. >> It's open later. >> I'm going to bring my car. I'm going to put a second. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Yes or no? >> You have the right to remain silent. Yes or no? You understand? >> Understand? >> Look at me. for any chance. >> Having uh these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to us now? >> You want to talk to me? Yes or no? >> Huh? >> Do you want to talk to me? Yes or no? >> Yeah, I'm Yeah, I'm okay. I Okay, >> sit right there. Be quiet. >> Mommy, can you talk Can you go sit with mommy real quick while I talk to papa real quick? You guys, >> just hang with mommy real quick. I'll I'll be right over there now with papa. Okay. >> You want to talk to me? Yes or no? >> Yes, sir. Yes, sir. I speak to you. Yes, sir. >> So, do you understand why we're here? Yes or no? >> Okay. >> There's uh a credit card that was used and you guys were supposedly the ones that used the credit card. Where's the credit card? >> I use my debit card in this place, sir. >> So, you don't know what I'm talking about? >> No, sir. I don't have my debit card. See my debit card? I have my debit card. to US association. >> Did you make contact with the with the driver? >> At the same time, the victim arrived at the scene and gave officers a clear account of what had been stolen, helping them quickly narrow the direction of the investigation. >> Okay. So, we were at Packson and I had put like my keys somewhere like right on top of like something I was looking for and then when I went to go get them, they were gone. Yeah. like my my >> so it had like money in it, all my cards like uh my work key. >> Okay. >> And um >> inside Paxton, right? >> Yeah, it was inside Pakistan. >> Okay. >> And then um yeah, like they were stolen and then I the only reason I noticed is cuz like I got a notification from my bank that somebody had bought something from Foot Locker. >> Okay. >> So I ran to Foot Locker. When I walked into Foot Locker, >> how long after that after you realized it was gone did you receive the message? Um, >> I think probably like like 2 or 3 minutes. >> Yeah, it was like 2 minutes. Like my bank called, they texted me and then when I walked into Foot Locker, they were there, >> but I didn't recognize them. And then uh the people from Foot Locker were helping me like they they have pictures if you guys need them. >> But what what I'm trying to find out is how do you how do we know it's them? Uh they have pictures of them using the making the transaction with my card and they were also at Pakistan at the same time we were there. So they have video footage that's evidence and then they also had the transaction. >> Yeah. I went she came in front sees me and then tells me what happened. So I cross reference. >> You're working you working there right now? >> Yeah. Yeah. hours with the time and everything with the with the transaction that happened whenever they paid for something with her card using her card. >> The victim provided a detailed and credible statement. In addition, they had surveillance footage and other evidence that strongly supported their account. >> Yeah. Yeah. I came in. >> You saw them? >> I came in here. >> This is her with the mask and then him with the child. >> Gotcha. >> And then this was the exact transaction. Oh, what was the what was the amount of the transaction? >> It was $374.50. >> So, they bought two pairs of shoes, but then they returned them and got cash. So, they're not going to have that property. What I want to look for to see if if they have >> the wallet with the keys. Yeah. I'm getting further information now, but they're going he's going to go verify the exact same amount that she occurred on her credit card. >> Okay. And these are the subject >> is full, right? Hey, if well still I want to see if I can find the keys. >> Okay. >> In your car. >> Well, let her sit in the front or somebody's going to watch her. >> Back with the suspect after her attempts to avoid the truth failed. She was forced to face the evidence. She ultimately admitted what she had done. >> Okay. >> Why is this in your in your purse? >> Okay. Hey. Um, I'm going to be honest. I was like walking out of the store after I was looking for like a shirt to get. >> What store? >> Um, packs on. >> Okay. >> And I seen the keys on the floor. >> Mhm. >> And instead of me being honest, I took the keys. >> Okay. >> And I'm not like that, honestly. >> Okay. >> And I know that I did a bad decision. >> But what happened after you took the keys? >> Um, I went and made a purchase. >> Where? Okay. >> Okay. And then what? >> That was it. >> That was it? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Well, thank you for being honest with me. Okay. >> Um, let me uh let me talk to my officers over here and just sit tight. Okay. >> Can I ask you a question? >> What? >> Would I be arrested? Can I get a promise to a career? >> Okay. I'm going to I'm going to figure that out now. Just give me a few minutes. All right. Just be patient. All right. Shortly afterward, the wallet was returned to the victim, [music] but the case was far from over as officers discovered that several items were still missing from inside it. >> No, I'm missing my uh ED card and my Discover card. This is like my health insurance both. Uh cuz maybe they switched bags or whatever. >> Uh and they took all the cash that I had in here. >> Okay. >> Hello. >> So, it still has things missing. >> Okay. >> Your card and what else? It was my Ed card and my Discover card, like my credit card. And I had my um ID on my phone case if you sw for the physical one. I just didn't know that it was there. >> No, no, it's fine. >> Wanda. Yes, sir. >> Okay. Anything you want to tell me about the cash? >> Yes, sir. >> What about this? >> What do you want to tell me about this? What's that? >> What? I'm asking a question. Tell me about this. >> Oh, this is not yours. >> Okay. You sure? Right. Yes. The dollars are mine. >> The dollars. But you don't recognize this. This is not yours. >> No, sir. Okay. Why is it in your wallet? >> I did. Like I said, instead of being honest, I went inside someone's things that didn't belong to me and I took it out. >> Okay. All right. >> All right. So, I got your card, your your license. Okay. These are >> those are the young >> these are the person that reported the the the thing. Okay. So, I'm going to give this back to Please, can I get a comment to appear? >> She's going to she's going to do a search on you, okay? Real quick. She's got a password really quick. Okay, >> I'm going to jail. >> Either way, you still you're still under arrest, right? >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft and credit card fraud. A single dishonest decision can quickly escalate into multiple criminal charges when someone [music] chooses to steal and then exploit another person's financial information. Next, a routine traffic stop quickly unraveled after officers discovered what the driver had been hiding all along. You're Fel, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, why did you lie? >> Because I had a warning. >> Yes. I mean, some was paid for, some was not paid for. I can't say what was paid for was not paid for. >> On the 11th of February, 2024, police approached a vehicle in a parking lot after suspecting it was connected to a retail theft that had just occurred at a Shnook store. As soon as officers mentioned the incident, the two women immediately denied any involvement. >> Hello, I'm Deputy Scooter, the Champion County Sheriff's Office. So, the reason why I pulled you over is because your vehicle is matching description of vehicle that was just in a retail theft over in Seavoi. >> Seavoi? >> Yeah. Where have you guys been today? >> I just got in the car. I just picked up my daughter. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to wait here with you while we get the deputies that are on scene to come down here cuz I'm not too familiar with what's going on there. But that's why I'm talking to you right now. And I got >> So, boy, where my daughter Mariah live over. >> Okay. Well, a boy yesterday. >> Like I said, I'm not I'm not too familiar with the whole situation. >> They're going to come over here and they'll talk to you more and give you more specifics. >> All right. >> Yeah, that's the reason why I'm having contact. >> And I'm audio video recording my body camera. >> Okay, that's fine. >> He said, "Oh, depend." I mean, >> I'm Deputy School of >> I don't know. He just said somebody's a boy. I just dropped my daughter off. Shnooks called and said you stole some snacks. Snooks and soy. >> I stole some snacks. >> Yeah. >> Who stole some snacks? >> You got you. >> That's what they're reporting. We're not saying that's what happened, but that's why you're being stopped till we figure it out. Obviously, if you took something, it's best just to let us know so we can be done with it. >> Their denials were difficult for the officers to believe as they had already spotted snack items inside the vehicle matching the stolen merchandise. Even the women's clothing closely match the descriptions provided in the report. >> See though, >> so all this stuff in the back seat is uh >> this stuff been up. >> Oh, >> okay. Cuz I'm here to tell you we're getting the receipt now and if the stuff matches that I was just on the phone with manager stuff >> and they gave your two description. >> What did I say? >> The your description >> that >> the black jacket, the black bonnet that she had a pink bonnet with a three-colored coat and whitish colored pants with a large purse. So it's either red or pink. And that's what I'm looking at right now. >> This isn't worth going to jail for, believe me. >> It's really not. So, is this the stuff you guys stole? >> No. >> Okay. Did you guys pay for any of that? >> Okay. I appreciate the >> Hold on. Hold on. Slow down. >> I need an ID from both of you, please. >> I don't have my ID. >> Okay. >> Do you have an ID on you, ma'am? >> That would be >> Is it a shelter? I don't know. >> I'd have to I'd have to look. It could be. >> Yeah. I think I was there for like a month or two. Okay. >> But I I don't think I haven't used that for an ID. >> Huh? >> I just got my ID recently. Remember? >> It's not a real big deal. It's It's just It's on an expired license. It wouldn't come back on. >> I just got my I just got a new ID. >> Okay. Okay. Hurry. I'll never come back here. I'm going to get this one out. In reality, the value of the stolen merchandise was relatively small, and the suspects likely would have only received a trespass notice and been allowed to leave. However, the false information one of the women gave to the officers changed the outcome of the entire encounter. >> Come back up here for a second. >> Last chance to stop lying to me. Okay. >> Okay. >> You're Chanel, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, why did you lie? >> Cuz I had a warrant. >> Okay. What's your warrant for? >> From traffic. >> Okay. How old is it? >> It's like two years. >> Okay. Just the one warrant. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, the >> all this unpaid stuff was also in the purse. >> No, this this this stuff that my sister had and we just took it out the bag and I just had my purse. >> This is also from Snooks. That's some stuff that she had and she gave it to me. As we taking the groceries in, she giving me stuff. >> Okay. I'm not I'm not saying she was. I'm just trying to figure it all out. Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, the ranch packets and all these towels and stuff cuz I got to go back down there and watch all the camera footage anyways. >> No, that has to. >> Okay. So, I'm just giving you a chance. Be honest with me now. >> No, that's nothing to do with it. >> Okay. This either. >> No. >> Okay. >> And then who who >> I'll come back. >> Who bought all the stuff at Walmart? my sister. >> Okay. >> Where did you guys drop her off at? >> She's saying in her banner. >> Okay. You don't know the address? >> Um, no. I don't know her address. >> And you dropped her off, right? >> Yeah. >> After Walmart or after Snooks or what? >> After Snooks. >> So, you went to Walmart and then Shnooks and then dropped her off. >> Yeah. >> Okay. The woman showed no remorse after admitting what she had done. She did not even seem to understand why she was being arrested. And even after she was placed in handcuffs, she still appeared surprised by the situation. >> Hello. I'm calling you back. I'm about to go to jail. >> Those are your warrants. >> Warrants? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Tom, just call my kids and just tell them. >> Can I take my debit card with me? >> Yeah, we'll get that. >> We'll grab it after. >> All right. They about to take me to jail. I'll pass. >> So, she has some warrants. I'm going to go to jail. Okay. >> What? >> She has warrants for arrest. >> Trying to get your sleeve out of the way and not pinch you. >> I mean, we're trying to do this. Call my husband. You have a valid license. >> Expired, but yeah. Otherwise, valid. >> Yeah. >> How much is her boner, y'all? >> Uh, I'll try to figure that out. I don't know if it has one or not. >> I'll have to see how old the wars are. >> You step over here real quick. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm just going to be upfront with you real quick. Okay. You've been for the most part cooperative once we got it figured out. Okay. >> So, that's my sergeant right over there in the black car. Okay. >> And he's getting ready to watch the footage from the traffic stops for those tickets that are in your purse. Was that you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I assume so. That's it. Not my first day. Okay. And I understand it. I get it. Not Not the end of the world. It's not the crime of the century. Okay. You're not out killing anybody. You're not out. Let me get you a tissue. Officers then searched the vehicle and discovered even more suspicious merchandise that was believed to have been stolen. >> These are the same paper. >> Okay, the paper. I'm sorry. >> What about these plastic bowls? >> I don't know about it. >> These? >> No, she got them bowls. No, >> this came from uh Walmart. >> Oh, no. >> There's dip inside, too. That's not in a bag. >> There's Sprite. There's more vegetables in Oh, that spider hat. No, that's spider side. No, >> that came from where? >> Yeah, that's my daughter bought that from Walmart. >> What about this? >> Yeah, I don't know where it come from. I don't lie. >> Where did this shook? >> That's come from Walmart. Yeah, it >> says Oh [ __ ] I'm sorry. I'm sorry. So, I'm >> so I'm sorry. >> So, did did this just get put in the purse too at Shnooks or what? >> I don't know if it says Snooks. It got to be Snooks. I ain't going to lie. >> I'm getting my daughter bought that, >> you know. No, they cooking. These come from Walmart. I know that. >> So, we don't know about these. You said >> No, that's I don't think that's probably about >> We don't know about Take that. Just take it. >> All right. >> Not that you can really size. >> I take ring up and see. I guess. >> Yeah. Just take that. Take it. What's that? >> This is I I just used the bag. >> This is my Okay. This my baby. This my >> This is This is all from her purse. >> This This here was already in the car. That's my baby. He had >> Okay. That was on the floor. It's okay. >> Okay. He had it yesterday. >> This all came from her purse. I just put it in a Walmart bag. >> Oh, all that [ __ ] back there. >> As for the other woman, officers gave her another chance to be honest and admit what she had done. After repeated questioning from the officers, she finally began admitting [music] to the theft, showing little to no remorse. >> What up? >> What? How did the Walmart theft go? We already got figured out. Okay. And I'm not even giving the chance to say that Walmart was paid for cuz I'm already past that. I know it wasn't. >> My daughter. >> No, she didn't. Last chance. So, what happened at Walmart? >> You said I going to go to jail. >> You just said I want to go to jail. >> If you're honest with me, I'll write you the NTA. If you're going to keep lying to me, a notice to appear. >> Okay. >> If you're going to keep lying to me, then I might as well just go to jail. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to go lie to you. Yeah. Some of the stuff. >> Okay. So, how So, what happened at Walmart? Did we pay for part of it and selfch checkckout and leave? Did we Cuz they're they're getting their footage right now. >> I'm going to figure out. I just told her. I'm going to have the answer. >> Yes. I leave some of it was paid for, some of it was not paid for. I can't say what was paid for was not paid for. I can't say that to be honest. >> Like I said, I'm just giving you that chance to be honest. But I know. >> Yes. >> But some of it was paid for. >> Some was not paid for. >> Okay. >> Like I said, I don't know what. >> Okay. So, I'll figure all that out then. Okay. >> Hell, you could take it off. All I care goes on. Yeah. I don't care. You know, hey, I mean, >> you know, >> I am taking it all. And then >> I mean, I don't >> if I find out some was paid for, I'll get that back to you. Okay. >> Like I said, I don't know. Some of was paid for, some I don't know what was and what was not. I'm keeping I don't know. >> That's fine. I appreciate that honesty. Okay. She can work that out with Walmart. We're not giving any of them back. >> Go to Walmart. Mr. >> Turn it all. >> All right. Hang on just a second. Okay. So, there's your copy. Your court date is on February 29th at 1:30 p.m. at the courthouse here in Urbana. Okay. Make sure you go to that. I want you that warrant. All right. Yeah. >> That just tells you that it's for retail theft with the statute and all your information up top. Okay. >> Okay. You have any questions for us? >> In the end, the women were cited for retail theft, while one of them was also charged with obstructing identification and arrested on an outstanding warrant. A small theft might not lead to jail, but lying about your identity and hiding the truth can quickly make the situation much worse. Being honest from the beginning often leads to a better outcome. Next, this woman kept denying the obvious, even after the stolen handbag was found in plain view. I'm so sorry, but I will say is inside your first round. >> Yes. >> Mom, it's too late. >> No, no, we have baby. >> Stop, man. Stop. >> Will you please help me? >> No, you're not helping me. >> On the 14th of February, 2024, police approached an Asian woman at a furniture store after suspecting she had stolen a handbag from a nearby shop. As soon as they made contact, she quickly denied everything in a suspicious manner. >> Hello. >> I have a question for you real quick. Uh we were over at the collective earlier. Were you there today? >> The store on Summit Avenue. >> Yeah. >> Um the owner there said that she a uh purse went missing from the front and she wasn't sure um where it might be. >> Okay. >> She said she was working with speaking with another customer when you were there. Um >> do you happen to know? Did you see the purse that um >> I looked around there? >> Looked around there. Okay. [snorts] You didn't take anything? No. >> No. >> Okay. Do you mind if I look through your bag? >> Yeah, I do. I just went shopping. >> Okay. Um, >> what's your what's your first name? >> Lisa. >> Lisa. >> Yeah. >> Lieutenant Officer Gello. This is Detective Green. >> This is probably just the wrong place, wrong time. I understand you probably couldn't [clears throat] get from it. >> Um, but at the end of the day, we're just trying to do our job. >> I understand. >> It appears that you were the only person in the store when this went missing. >> And sometimes we pick things up by accident. Like we're just gathering our stuff. It seems [clears throat] like you have a lot of stuff. We just want to rule that out. >> Yeah, >> it's kind of cold. Don't freeze it. I just stand outside. >> There's more people outside. >> The bottom line is if you just open your purse and show us that the Louis Vuitton thing wasn't inadvertently picked up, that's a different story, right? But at this point, fortunately, I think we have enough to detain you because you're the only person in the store. So, >> I wasn't but I wasn't. There was nobody really in there. >> Oh, there was? >> Yeah. >> Oh, it sounded like you were the only person there. >> That's incorrect. The question was, if she had done nothing wrong, why did she become so nervous when officers asked to search her bag? She even refused to provide her identification, making herself appear even more suspicious. >> Do you have a driver's license on a table? >> Can we have that just for records? >> I I don't >> I understand I understand you don't like it, >> but it's the reality. No, I >> conducting an investigation and it appears that you have been named as a potential suspect and so unfortunately by law you do have to turn over your driver's license for >> this is true. That's and see that's not even true. I wasn't even >> that could have been me. I could have misheard. Um but it sounded like you were the only person in there. I understand this is probably just like again wrong place at the wrong time. It could just be you inadvertently picked something up when you didn't mean to. Um, >> I don't know to tell you, but anything you can do to help us, we can put this to bed. If it was the other person, maybe there's video of the other person doing it, but there is cameras in there. So, I just want to put this to bed one way or the other. If you could help us, that would be awesome. >> But I am going to need your help. >> I'm sorry to be a pain. No, >> it's kind of a pain. I just This is really embarrassing. >> I'm so sorry. But I will say, is the inside your first brown? >> Yes. >> The inside doesn't look >> Well, I have I have >> a brown fluid in there. >> No, it >> sure looks like it. Right there. >> No, >> right there. Could see it. Yeah. >> The stolen handbag had already been spotted in plain view. Yet, the woman continued to pretend nothing was wrong, prompting the officers to repeatedly point it out to see how she would react. >> The brown Louis Vuitton that I just saw. >> Do you know what room? >> I'm sure you do, but you have been identified. I just saw that in plain view. It matches exactly to what she's describing. We're not playing this game anymore, man. I >> I'm not playing this game either. This is >> Let me have your ID. I'm >> This is wrong. >> I'm sure it is. I need your ID and I will not ask again. >> I can assure you of that. >> You're already getting the ID out. Let's just get the ID out again. We saw it was in there, so not covering anything up anymore. Just give us the ID so we can go from there. >> It's a misunderstanding. It is where it is. But we have to document everything that we show here and we need to see some people. >> We can do this now here or we just handcuff here and crossing where cross over where the cars are. Probably one of the busiest streets in summit. So we can resolve this here. There's only four or five officers here or we can go across the street handcuffs where there's probably going to be people going to be reporting this public sidewalk and they can do that. So I think it's in your best interest. So can we see that first? Can we have your ID? >> That's not happening. Steal it. No, >> don't do it. >> She still showed no intention of helping resolve the investigation. Instead, she continued refusing to cooperate, turning the situation into an obstruction without realizing the consequences of her actions. She left the officers with no choice but to take action. >> Here, I'll give you >> Stop blowing away. Stop pulling away. >> Look at me. >> No. Stop pulling away and give us the bag. >> This is not up for discussion. Okay. Turn it over now. >> Now. Or you're going to handcuff us. >> I gave you the option before. Mom, it's too late. >> No. No. We gave you the opportunity. >> Stop. Man, stop. >> Will you please help me? >> No. >> You're not helping you. Stop now. >> Ma'am, stop. This is ridiculous. Stop. You're not going to win this. You're not going to win this. I promise you, >> now you're resisting. You want to get charged with this thing, too? >> Where are you going? >> This could have gone a lot easier. >> The entire We're trying to be respectful of you. We're not being respectful of us. >> Either take this bag off or I'm going to cut it off. >> All right. Take your right arm off. No. Take your You don't need your left arm. >> Stop resisting. >> Stop resisting. >> Please stop resisting. >> No. Please stop. >> Doesn't have to be this way. Please stop. >> Stop. I'm just going to cut it off in two seconds cuz I don't really care about the straps and let her go. >> Stop walking away. >> Shortly afterward, she was escorted to the patrol car. Yet, there was still no sign of genuine remorse. Instead, she began making excuses and pleading for sympathy without showing any shame for what she had done. >> Can I Can I just ask you something? >> No. >> No. Please, >> man. Just slide back there, please. You can ask me when we go inside. All right. It's cold. >> Can I please >> just slide back? Okay. >> Can Can I please? >> When we get inside, I'm freezing. Let's go. Come on. >> No, but it's not changing the outcome. >> We're going to block down the street. It's a two-minute ride. >> No, but can I please just go? >> No. Get in. Come on. >> I am begging you. Okay, that's not going to work. So, come on, sit back. >> Wait, but you made you made a decision. Go inside. >> Okay, I screw up. >> Okay. >> All right, let's go. >> I I am begging you. >> Maybe the girl doesn't want to pursue it. I don't know. But go inside the car. >> Tell you something. No. Go inside. >> No. Please listen to me. >> You need to be aware of your Miranda rightites before you say anything. >> Okay. So, don't ask. >> Don't say anything until you are read your Miranda rightites. I'm not asking you any questions and I don't want to hear anything from you at this point. Okay? >> Nothing you say is going to change. Just get in the back of the car. >> Um, can I can I tell you something, please? >> No, we don't need to hear anything. All right. >> Please, you know, >> we just wrestled inside. Do you want to wrestle getting in the back? We don't want to do that. So, just sit back, please. We're asking you nicely. We don't I am begging you. >> You need to get in the car. We already put you down on the floor in there because you want to resist arrest. Get in the car. We don't want to have to force you in the car. >> It's my fault. >> Get in the car. go inside. >> In the end, she was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. One dishonest decision rarely stays small. The moment someone chooses to protect a lie instead of facing the truth, every choice afterward only deepens the [music] consequences. Next, watch as this wealthy woman breaks down in tears after being caught red-handed, all because of her greed. With the within the last 90 days, you've been catching camera, choplifting around $940. >> On the 13th of December, 2023, police were dispatched to a Target store after receiving a report of a shoplifting incident. Surveillance cameras had captured a woman intentionally [music] attempting to leave the store with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise. This is what happened when officers approached her. >> Ma'am, let's go inside. We need to talk to you. do your thing right now for job bleing. Okay. Okay. >> Let's go inside. >> Okay. I'll take this. I'll take this. >> Keep your hands out of your pocket. >> Keep your hand out of your pocket. >> Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. >> Controller. >> Yep. >> Do you have any weapons on you, ma'am? >> No, I do not. >> Okay. >> Let's take a seat here. Yes. >> Do you have an ID on you? >> Um, I don't. >> Let's see. No, I do not. >> Okay. >> I have it in my car. >> Okay. >> Let me see your There's an older case right there. >> What's your last name, man? >> I V E R S. >> Let's do it quick slowly. Okay. Ivy. >> I V E R S. What's your first name? >> Melissa. M E L I S S A. >> The woman was identified as Dr. Melissa Ivers, the associate chief medical officer for the University of New Mexico Health System, earning nearly $300,000 a year. But what was even more surprising was that this was not the first time she had stolen. The police pointed that out as well. >> So, let's see what is the total. And they're going to be very transparent with you. They have more cases uh work against you. Okay. Oh, okay. >> I have seen that face. I if if I have a dollar for every time I see that face, I I wouldn't be doing this. >> Yeah. >> So, they'll give me all the information. >> Okay. >> And I'll explain you everything what's going on. Okay. I just want to do a quick pan cuz I noticed that you were reaching your pockets. >> Uhhuh. >> Okay. Lean forward for me, please. >> Okay. I'm going to remove this from you from your guys. Good. So, you probably know that we know what we're doing, right? And they've been looking at you for very long time. >> So, >> they did not know that. >> Okay. Well, I'm telling you now. They've been looking at you, right? And so, and they know and they've been looking at you and the other targets as well. >> Okay. From her constant sighing to the nervous shaking of her leg, it was clear that she was deeply anxious about what was going to happen to her. She even broke down in tears, but by then those tears had come too late. >> Jesse, >> do you use any type of narcotics? >> No, not at all. >> Okay. Do you have to take any medications? >> No. >> Okay. If you sit straight, you're probably going to be able to breathe better. >> I'm sorry. What? >> If you sit straight, you're going to be able to breathe better. If I sorry, say that again. >> If you sit straight, probably like lean against the wall if you have to. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> I already have court for like we talked from Walgreens last Sunday. >> Do you what? >> I already have court. Oh, >> 11. >> After taking the time to confirm the overwhelming evidence against her, the police finally made their decision. >> Okay, ma'am. At this point, you're going to be under arrest for chlifting. Okay. >> Okay. with the within the last 90 days you've been catching camera choplifting around $940 which is a New Mexico is a felony. Okay. So um you also is going to be criminal trespass on the property. I give you a copy in a second. Okay. So do me a favor. Stand up for me please. Face away. Face away from me. Put your hands behind your back. >> Falling down. >> You can take your pants. >> Okay. Put your hands behind your back and put it your hands together like you pray. Put your hands together like you. >> I already asked you this. You said you don't have any weapons. We're going to ask you then. Do you have any weapons? >> No, I don't. >> Do you have any needles for you? >> No, I don't. >> What's going to happen? >> Well, you're going to jail right now. >> Oh god. >> Okay. You're going to jail. Um, uh, please. >> Oh my god. >> Shortly afterward, she was escorted to the patrol car. Before taking her away, the officer offered her some words of advice. Whoever I'm so sorry. >> It happens, ma'am. Just >> No, it doesn't. It's just bad. >> It's so bad. >> Happens more often than anything. >> Yeah, but >> I'll be honest with you, Melissa. >> We're in 2023, Melissa. Yes. >> You know where's the only place that they don't have cameras? >> I don't know. >> In the bathroom. >> There cameras all over. >> We have cameras. Yes. >> They have cameras all over the the store. >> The only reason why you haven't been detained or under arrest before is cuz when they have called us before, we've been busy. >> Yeah. >> But they've been looking for you. >> Oh, I do not know. >> Yeah. Well, you have $940 already in merchandise, Melissa. >> You know what I mean? Like I I can't even afford that right now. There's a lot of money. Okay. So, I get that you feel bad now, but there's a there's a little wakeup call for you to stop doing that. Okay. >> Yes, I agree. >> Okay. I'm not giving you like a oh my god, this cop is, you know, giving me a little um how do they call it? Like a speech. No, I'm just I've been doing this for a long time. Okay, >> I understand. >> And and I can see just right off the bat that I don't see that you're an addict. So, >> no, I'm not. I'm not. >> But we'll we'll talk in a second. Okay. >> Okay. Melissa Ivers was charged with felony shoplifting and criminal trespass. No matter how successful or respected someone appears, repeated dishonest choices eventually catch up with them. Modern surveillance, patient investigations, and accumulated evidence can turn a series of seemingly small thefts into a serious criminal case, proving that the consequences are often far greater than the value of what was stolen. Next, this woman seemed to believe that shoplifting was one of her rights as an American citizen. Listen to me or you're going to go to jail right now. >> Come here. >> After you said I killed your family, >> get on the ground. >> On the 11th of January, 2026, police approached a woman suspected of being involved in a theft investigation. What seemed like a straightforward case quickly took a bizarre turn when she began making confusing statements and displaying increasingly erratic behavior. >> So, let me tell you what happened. Whisk five tri 7 7 10 to whisk five shot. >> All right. I got witnesses all in pictures before you come me and you owe me Wendy's. >> I owe you Wendy's. >> Yes. 45 days of plea deal. I plead out [ __ ] ple. >> Well, good. I'm glad. >> This told me yesterday I'm the only one. Glad I stay on something. >> Okay. >> He said I You're kidding. >> Who did >> this mother? This a rap. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I You're kidding. I told him I killed y'all. >> Okay. >> Listen. $100 scratch off. Right. Okay. Swear to God on Bible and y'all take me to jail. I done made my run to Calvary after what happened in that medical cell. Oh god. >> Although she denied stealing anything, she had clearly admitted being involved with the store. Police then decided to detain her for further questioning, but she certainly did not make the process easy. >> Place your hands behind your back for me. >> Probably. No. Uh before you get my witnesses, I ain't doing that. I >> I'm going to go talk to them. >> No, you cannot arrest me till you get witnesses on. >> Don't start with me right now. >> I'm just saying. Let me finish what I said respectfully. You kind of short though. You kind of cute. I'm just saying too short. But I put the I had a scratch off. They swap car scan, right? I have receipts. So before you get to evidence, it take me to jail cuz you want to get I have all the receipts and stuff, but they took money for me and videos. >> Okay, we're going to we're going to talk about that. Okay, we're going to work on that. >> All right, so this is my code. You going to take me to jail when he said I your kid. >> Okay, we're going to go talk about that. But right now, >> I'll go right there. I ain't running. >> I got you right now. >> Handcuff for me. No, cuz you cannot. >> I'm going to Yes, cuz you >> No, legally you cannot. >> Don't start with me. >> No, I'm done talking. Legally, you cannot. I did not steal it. >> Yes, you did. >> No, I did not. >> Did you pay for it? >> Yes, I did. >> No, you didn't. Yes, I did. I did not steal. Listen again. >> I did not steal the bill. I have a video of them swapping out. >> Okay. >> The two things. >> Okay. Well, we're going to go talk to them. >> Okay. You're not handcuffing me in the back of the car till we walk over there. I'll hold your hand though till we go over there respectfully. >> Right now, I'm going to 55 you cuz I don't have a partner here. Okay. >> When we get over there, we're going to talk. >> You ain't You ain't handcuffing me. >> Okay. >> I get to call out handcuffs, but you ain't handcuffing me. >> All right. Listen. >> This is unfair. >> I'm not going to do this. If if he says you didn't steal it, we look at it, I will I will take the cuffs off you. Okay. >> No, we're not doing that. I'll walk over there. >> Okay. No. No. Come here. Hey. >> Despite repeated warnings from the police, she continued doing whatever she wanted as if nothing serious was happening, forcing the situation to escalate moments later. >> Come here. Hey, listen. Listen to me or you're going to go to jail right now. >> And then I'm going to go to jail. >> Come here. >> Come here. >> Okay. Well, come here. >> Come here. Come here. Stop. Stop. Don't arrest me. I have to know we will allow for arrest out here. >> Stop. >> No. Um, go ahead and take me. Shoot me. I don't like >> I like taking Come here. >> Right out here. >> Come here. >> What I said? Go ahead. Take me. I'm going to throw you out there. >> Whist me at 35. >> Yeah. Right here where I'm going. You're not going. Turn around or I will tase you. >> Tase me. >> I don't want to do that. >> No. I'm going to tase you. >> Stop. >> No. Because I done told you what happened. >> No. >> Yes. I'm free citizen of America until you get the evidence. Turn around. >> No, I'm not. >> Why are you going to do this? Come on. >> Why? Because you illegally arrested me. >> I'm not. >> No, technically you did. And I sent it to the back there with the red attachment. So, let me tell you about your law real fast. >> Stop. >> Sure. >> Your red attachment. It was a warrant. >> Come on. Why are you doing this? >> I was took me back home later. I'm just kidding. >> All right. Well, >> no. I getting caught in cuffs. I told you I'd go in without cuffs. >> All right. If you were the officer in this situation, what would you have done? Don't forget to let us know in the comments. Here's what the officer decided to do next. >> You honestly. >> All right. I'm not doing this. Turn off. Turn. >> We going to try. We going to be playing around. All right. If you can get my hand from here to here, I'll make you a deal. >> Turn. >> No. I'm taking the same thing. No. >> Stop. >> No. You have to break the back up. Take your backup. Yeah, cuz I'm going to see how good your two is. >> I'm serious. Stop. I'm taking the same thing today. You look kind of little. We'll do some. >> I'm trying to get domestic. >> Stop. I like that. >> Get on the ground. Get on the ground. N >> I will tase you. >> No, I told you I'm taking >> Get on the ground. >> Nope. >> Get on you to laugh at you again. >> Get on the ground. >> Okay, >> now this all >> get on the ground. >> I'll get you a knee. >> Get on the ground. >> This is my knee. Now >> tase me, please. >> Why do you want me to tase you? >> I like that freaky [ __ ] >> Get on the T. I'm taking my stand in my knee. >> All right. Taser. Taser. Taser. >> HQ. >> Taseras. Taser. >> Hey, >> taser. Good. Anybody? Woo! Woo! How many DO YOU >> GET DOWN? >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> I DONE TOLD YOU I TOOK MY KNEE. That's all I get out of me. >> I want to make it clear that a police taser is never something to joke about. And with the woman's constant mocking attitude, she soon faced the consequences of her actions. >> Taser. Taser. Taser. >> Taser. Taser. Taser. >> Be snatching out these [ __ ] >> Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. >> My name stands for today. After you said I killed your family. >> Get on the ground. [screaming] >> No. No. I'm on the ground. BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE. >> GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON YOUR BACK. >> GET ON YOUR BACK. >> I'M TAKING A STAND TODAY FOR MY DADDY AND THE MILITARY. [ __ ] YOU. AFTER YOU SAY YOU KILL MY KIDS, I AM GOING. GO GET [screaming] >> kid on the ground. >> HE SAID HE KILLED MY KID. >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> I'M BLEEDING. YES. SO AM I. >> FOR WHAT? >> You freaking threw a taser darn at me >> because you just >> Turn around AND GET ON [screaming] YOUR BACK. >> DAMN. I GOT SHOT IN THE HEAD. I GUESS >> TURN AROUND and get ON YOUR BACK. >> I CAN'T DO IT, MAN. ONE MINUTE. YOU JUST I'M BLEEDING. >> SO AM I. >> NO, YOU'RE NOT. IT'S MY >> LOOK. >> All right. Well, I'm trying to get on the ground. Got to take a break. I'm bleeding. I need ambulance. >> Get up. Get out. Get on your back. >> All right. >> Give her something. Shortly afterward, she was officially placed in handcuffs and faced an additional charge for resisting arrest, but she showed no signs of remorse. >> Okay. >> All right. >> She threw a taser dart at me. My head's bleeding. >> My mine's bleeding, too. >> Thank you. Um, that A-B said, "I kill your kid." So, I can't believe you said I kill your kid. I see you on the other side when I die cuz he got unplug. Let me make sure I scratch him back. Make sure you kill get that [ __ ] too. I kill your kid. >> Well, don't try to find my partner. All right. >> Your partner? No, I'm nothing like that. I thought you talking about me. I'm nothing like that. I don't come for family. My family's cops and military. >> Really? Well, you should have put your hands behind your back when I ask you. >> Yes, because y'all I got to >> All right. You ready to move, sir? >> Nope. You ain't moving anywhere. You going to stay right here till rescue shows up. >> Thank you. >> We have this fifth amendment, right? you should exercise it and stop talking. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft, battery on an officer, and resisting arrest with violence. What began as a simple theft case became far more serious because of her reckless behavior and constant joking throughout the encounter. What do you think about this case? If you share the same thoughts, don't forget to leave a comment and let me know. Next, the more the woman spoke, the more she showed that she was a professional criminal. >> She just scanned it, but she never paid. Hold on. Like, I have the link. I don't mind. Like right now, if we was to rain these things, I don't mind paying for it. >> Okay, we're we're past that point. >> On the 12th of August 2024, police responded to a report from Walmart regarding a woman accused of shoplifting. By the time officers arrived, she had already been escorted to the loss prevention office. And based on the employees statements, the details of the incident quickly became clear. >> What we got? Um, she scanned $441 worth of stuff, but when they when she went to pay, she did Walmart pay. Um, but she never like pressed um she walked off without me. And she did it this morning, too, but they prevented her from getting out of the door. Excuse me, officer. >> Hold on just one minute. >> So, she she just scanned it, but she never paid. That like blue button was supposed to click and she never did. She just walked off her. And then I have the transaction from this morning as well. >> Okay. Are you guys want to press charges for this morning as well? >> No, I can't do this morning cuz she was prevented at the door by the door host. Okay. >> And so she didn't get out with anything, but he stormed right now. So on the same day, she left with unpaid items twice using the same method. The surveillance footage was clear evidence. Yet she had no intention of admitting fault. Instead, she had an excuse for her actions. >> Um this morning when they were saying that I did the same thing, it was it was not intentional. Like I told them, this time was not intentional. The first when I came in this morning, I got all of the exact same items cuz it was for my daughter's birthday. And when they stopped me at the door the first time, they was like, "Hey, the payment failed." And I looked, I even attempted, if they was willing to show you the camera, I even attempted to go pay for it again, but I realized that I didn't get paid. The only reason why I came back today was I realized, hey, I got paid. I had $882. I came back to get those same transaction, the transactions around the same thing. Like I said, it was not intentional or none of this to make it look like that I was trying to scale steal or anything. when I scann I didn't I don't use Walmart pay so I didn't know that I had to click the button you seen that I was actually willing to pay this same card is connected to my Walmart pay and it my account shows me where it fell now when she stopped me but I I wasn't realizing when I was in my phone I was checking it until she stopped me but I was trying to I have the money I'm willing to pay for the things I have $200 in my I it's just for my kids birthday I'm not trying to go to jail or I'm willing to pay for it I have the money. Like I said, I tried to pay for it. I didn't know that I actually I don't use Walmart pay. I don't mind paying for it. I have the physical. I have over $1,000 right now. She calmly told her story as if she had prepared it beforehand and truly believed it was convincing. In reality, however, officers quickly discovered that she had a history of similar offenses. >> You guys wanting her CT? She was um stopped. The reason why like pressing charges is cuz she was already stopped before and arrested for it. So >> years ago, >> that was years ago. I haven't did anything like that. Like I've never like I'm willing to pay for it. Like it's 2 years ago. I've never been >> Was she doing the same thing though? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. She was with somebody that was stealing but they were okay. I'm really willing to pay. Like I got my kids at home. I'm already in a situation. I don't have nowhere to live for real. Living with other people, working. Just trying to get back on my feet. I don't I'm not trying to steal. >> Yeah, I'll get that for you in just a second. Um, let me go out to my car real quick. I'll be right back. So, I find it unlikely that with prior arrests, with you coming this morning and then coming back today that you don't know what you're doing. Okay. So, you've done this before. >> This was >> How could you possibly make this mistake three times? >> I didn't What is before? I >> At that point, she began to panic as this was something she had not anticipated. The officers noticed it as well and from then on her explanations were no longer believed. >> I'm not trying to go to jail for nothing like stealing like I had that past already. 2 years ago when I got incarcerated in East Point that was the worst experience ever. Like I don't want to go for petty death for my kids and I have the money but I'm willing willing to do. >> So obviously it's not a matter of having the money or not having the money because you've done the same thing. Right. >> So, I do not believe that you don't know what you're doing. >> I did not know that I had to press. I promise to God. >> So, you're telling me you've been arrested for this before? You were stopped this morning for the same thing. And you're telling me that this afternoon pay it failed. The the lady came to me and said, "Pay your payment failed." I looked at my car. I even went back in line to even, you know, see what was going on. Like, I was willing to even get back in line then to get to do I did not know that I had to press pay. If I would have done it, if I would have known that, I would have done it. I'm not trying to steal, sir. >> Go ahead and uh take your first off for me, please. >> The woman realized her story was no longer convincing. Immediately afterward, she shifted her approach to appeal to the officer's sympathy. She began bringing up her family members to appear pitiful. >> Like, my kids are at home. I want them to come and get stuff. >> You said you have uh >> I can't even make a phone call for anybody to go get him. >> You So when he gets my car, I'll let you make the call. Okay. >> Daddy is incarcerated right now. >> You have any family? >> No, I'm not here. >> My address is down. >> How old your kids? >> 2 five and not going to be one. I got some kids. I just can't get no pampers. Why? I stay 5 minutes on the road. >> Okay. How old is the child at home? >> My oldest is five. >> Is that the child that's at home? Okay. You don't have a boyfriend, sister, brother, mother? >> My boyfriend's locked up here. >> Okay. Is your kid at home right now? >> Yes, my kid is right at home. Okay. And I don't want that to be like already involved. Like it's no way 20. I just want to pay for it. >> It's going to be so hard to get my kids out the system. >> What's your What's your title? >> Just LP officer. >> Yeah. AP. >> In the [music] end, the woman was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, even when disguised as mistakes, [music] leads to accountability once evidence and history are uncovered. Attempting to shift blame or gain sympathy does not change the facts of the case. Ultimately, consequences follow actions, [music] not explanations. >> Video of stealing vodka, they just they just stopped me and said, "You said you specifically >> I don't got time for this. I DON'T GOT NO BOTTLES. That's >> on the 12th of April 2024, officers were dispatched to a convenience store after receiving a report of a shoplifting incident. The suspects were believed to be two individuals from out of state, but what initially appeared to be a simple theft quickly unraveled into an organized scheme. Here is what happened when officers arrived at the scene. >> Hello. How are you? about living the American dream. >> Oh yeah. >> Hi Patrice. >> How are you? I need to talk to you for a couple minutes. >> Oh, wait. >> I'll talk to you, too. Okay. What do we take from Candy Foods? Okay. They They have a video of you guys stealing vodka. They just they just stopped me and said you stole they said you specifically. >> Me? Yeah. >> I ain't taking no vodka. I just vodka. You go check with uh where Okay. Yeah, I he was over there uh somewhere in the park. >> Yeah. >> See if he's Okay. >> So, you guys just came from Handy Foods though, right? >> Yo, I saw you walking. >> Okay. What's your name? I don't know you. >> Irene. >> Irene. >> Eileene. >> Eileen. What's your last name? >> Okay. >> The woman denied stealing the bottle of liquor and insisted she had not been drinking vodka. However, the statements she made afterward changed everything. >> What do you What' you buy there anyway? >> That was vodka. >> So, why would I take >> Okay. here real quick. Look at you guys' groceries. I just want to clarify something from Handy Foods. >> Nope. >> So, you guys just bought all these groceries? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And we walked over here with these groceries. >> Okay. Well, I saw you walking right before they flagged me down, but they they said you specifically sold some vodka. >> I didn't take vodka. I just bought vodka. >> Shortly afterward, they were escorted to a nearby park so officers could inspect the merchandise. Everything they found only deepened the suspicion surrounding their actions. >> I came back in the store again because I got it from the pad. Other than that, everything has to be paper. >> Where is your receipt? Oh, >> where's the receipt at? My husband got back. >> Okay. Here. Use your phone here to set these down so they don't blow away. Did you guys get vodka from Handy Foods or No. >> No. >> No. >> I mean, what would make them think that? >> Because they seen us get vodka, but we didn't purchase the vodka and we had the vodka still on the cart. >> Okay. >> So, we put it back. >> You put it back on the shelf. >> I know. >> I put it back on the shelf. just wanted to see a curious cuz I was going to go buy it and the woman that curious her getting it. >> I didn't get it. I went I said we can go to a cheaper store and get it and that's when we came over here. >> Okay. So they stopped you at the door. >> They didn't stop me. She just asked me what did I get? And I'm like I didn't get anything. And she was like yes you did. I'm like no ma'am I didn't. >> There was no receipt proving she had purchased any bottle of liquor. To make matters worse, officers found another bottle of liquor inside their backpack, further casting doubt on her story. >> What's it now? >> You heard some vodka. >> You been drinking some vodka. That's all right. All right. >> See? >> Yeah. And this is the This is pretty This is not from >> Yeah, that's not >> from 20 minutes ago. >> What about these? >> That was from the home. >> From home? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Where do you guys stay at now? >> There's Oh, you stay at Sansa. Okay. I It's been a while since I've talked to either of you guys. >> We don't get in trouble. We're not trying to get in trouble. >> I think the last thing last time I was dealing with you guys. >> This is exactly why I just spent over at Joe Mini Mark. >> That's That's how much it was from. >> That's how much that she's smoking the cigarette. So, I'm just want to add I'm not trying to >> I'm still trying to make sure that >> here's the thing. I watched the video and I can see there was four >> and then you kind of have your back facing me towards the cart. You kind of make a bunch of movements and you leave the store and there's only two there's only two bottles in the car. So, actually two bottles are missing. We're going to try and find a few bottles we can get back to them. >> I don't got no bottles. If I had the bottles, I would give the bottles back. I don't have a bottle. >> But yeah, I I don't think you just give them right back to us cuz you've never done that in the past. So, can you just tell us what the two bottles are so we can go pick them up and take it back to the store? >> Look, man. I can pay for the bottle. >> Okay. That's what No, >> I don't have time for this. I DON'T GOT NO BOTTLES. [screaming] >> That's >> I don't Y'all just search all my stuff. I don't have anything. >> What are you talking about paying for? We We want >> I can't actually just pay for them because we just want them back. >> I don't have them. >> They continued to firmly deny everything, only making the situation more tense. At that point, the officers made their decision and pulled the woman aside to explain it to her privately. >> Okay. And where did where did you put it? >> I don't have it. >> But when you left the I understand you don't have an album, but where did you cuz you said you left the store with it. You left her with vodka. That's there's no doubt about that. We have that on video. I just watched it. >> Stolen trailer. >> I don't got it. >> I know you don't got it, but where did you leave it? You left the store with it >> where it was at the store. >> You left it where? At the store? Outside the store. >> I don't know if somebody else pick it up. I don't got it. >> If you had to So, if you're trying to describe to us where we're going to find it, >> you will find me over there by the grocery carts at the store. >> By the grocery carts. You walked out, you put them by the grocery carts. >> Yeah. The in the back by the grocery carts. >> In the back by the grocery carts. >> Yeah. >> All the numbers that have been over there. Okay. >> It's supposed to be >> That's where you left. How many bottles we leave over there? >> One. >> Just one. >> Well, I took one. So, you walked us where you're getting paid for that one and you left it by the thing. Okay. Do me a favor. You turn around for me. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> John, >> are you be able to get both hands behind your back? >> No. Okay. >> This hand is broken. >> It been broken. >> Which hand is broken? >> This one. My wrist is broken. >> Can you give us the for the Great Dane trailer for >> outside by >> Finally, the officers informed them that all three of them were banned from returning to the store and would be arrested for trespassing if they came back. After checking the area where she said she had left the bottle, the woman was convicted of retail theft. Admitting the truth only after overwhelming evidence rarely changes the outcome, and stealing even a low value item can still lead to criminal charges and a permanent ban from the store. >> So, it's not petty theft. >> It is petty theft. >> Okay. >> Have you ever got caught? I talked to some employees, talked to my friend, and I took him south and left and then the cop uh got >> on the 3rd of August 2024. Police received a report from a shopping mall about a woman who had been caught shoplifting. When officers arrived at the scene, she showed no intention of admitting fault and instead began making up lies to avoid responsibility. >> CAN I trust you? >> No, you're detained. >> You're being detained right now for shopping. So, you're not free to go. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go back over there. I'm going to go uh I'm going to do this the hard way now. So, I'm going to go back over there and talk to them and everything else. Find out the video. And if it shows you put in there, then we're going to take it to jail. Okay. >> Do we want to be honest now? >> Yes. >> Okay. Let's see what it's in the bag. Um I just I took um >> I won't be honest from the get go >> cuz it would have been real simple and easy >> and now you've already pissed him off. >> I don't think you mind if I search the rest of your bag already. You mind just chilling with her for a minute? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> You mind if I use your counter real quick? for >> about that zooies. >> You literally had a coupon, girl. It's >> for $50. >> I think it's better than jail though, right? >> That's just my opinion. >> So, both the evidence and the suspect were clear. Shortly afterward, officers decided to place her in handcuffs before she had any chance to flee. Let me see these like that. A2 over here as well. >> I think Wondering if she's with my C. She could be wearing it under her being arrested. >> Yeah. >> Now you going to jail. I love it. Tell my mom I went with dignity even though I didn't. He didn't take anything. You're too pure. Good Christian boy. I don't think you find this very funny, but I think it's really >> tired. You're a third monster. >> I know. And I slept all day. I'm so tired. >> Oh my god. Say no. I'm so tired. I'm >> to see if they want to get a beat unit for 10:14. I want to have a little hopper. Look at them. >> Her walk of shame followed shortly afterward, but there was no sign of embarrassment at all. In fact, she laughed and joked the entire time, acting as if what had happened was no big deal. >> Screaming. For real. I didn't even do it though. Just Just kidding. I did. I broke the law. Thank him. >> They said she had an attitude. So they want to prosecute. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She have an attitude. >> Holier than that. >> Free me. I did nothing. Well, >> she had two coupons, too. Hot >> topic said, "Yeah, they want to cross feet." >> You guys have her attitude problem. So, >> she thinks she's not chill. So, >> all right. Hop on out. >> Okay. >> All right. We're going to switch cups. So, turn around past there. >> How much money do you spend coloring your hair? >> Uh, not much. >> You'll get a copy of this, but you cannot come back on property. >> Okay, that's fine. >> Okay. Little >> cross painting. >> Okay. >> Just shocker for both of them, honestly. Well, I think because of the attitude that she gave to Louis, that was the reason she said, "I don't like her effing attitude." She said, "She had a better attitude. I might have thought differently." [laughter] I was like, "All right." >> Sorry. >> Deal. >> Yeah. >> At that point, officers read her Miranda rights to continue questioning her, but she appeared completely uninterested. Her reason for stealing turned out to be even more noteworthy. >> Okay. I'm Deputy Bulls. I'm obviously taking over the investigation. Okay. Um, they read your Miranda rights. >> No. rights. >> Okay, I'm going to read it again. Okay. >> Okay. >> Why you cannot afford to hire a lawyer? Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes. >> Having these rights and do you wish to talk? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, what happened? >> Uh, I just found myself some Why? >> Cuz I wanted to. >> Did you have the money? >> No. >> Okay. >> I have a little bit money, but uh not $200 worth. That is not the amount of crap I took. Zooies is about 130 something and then >> so it's not petty pass. >> It is petty fast. >> Okay. >> Have you ever got caught feeling before? >> No. >> Okay. >> So other than that, why? >> Um I just mind stuff you said. >> So when you went into Hot Topic, what happened? >> Uh I talked to some employees, talked to my friend, and I took some stuff and left and then the cop uh got like followed me. Yeah. need that. >> Did they see you stealing on Hot Topic? You think >> or did you try to conceal it? >> Um, >> well, they came up to me and they were like, "Oh, someone saw you put something in your bag." And I >> Oh, the cops. >> Yeah. And I was like, "I lied." I'm like, "I didn't put anything." Okay. >> Uh, I did. I didn't know that they had the footage. So, but I thought I could buy I'm not I suck. >> Okay. And then Zumies. Uh, I guess they >> zooies before. >> Zooies before and they just found that stuff in my bag. >> Okay. So, they found the Hot Topic stuff in your bag, too. >> After they saw footage. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> All right. It'll be a couple minutes. I still got a report to type. Okay. Is the fan on? >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Finally, the woman was charged with first-degree misdemeanor petty theft. [music] Learn from her mistake. A moment of impulsive theft can lead to criminal charges, embarrassment, [music] and consequences far greater than the value of what was stolen. Next, this female nurse believed her excuses were enough to help her escape the consequences. >> I literally sat there and scanned every single item in the car. >> Like, I literally sat there and scanned every single item. >> Listen. >> Oh my god. I'm an >> I'm just doing my job. Listen. On the 6th of July 2024, police were dispatched to Walmart after reports claimed a woman had attempted to leave the store [music] with over $13,000 worth of unpaid merchandise. As officers approached, they quickly stopped her vehicle. And this was what happened next. >> Hi. >> I didn't I didn't >> Can you Can you Can you step Can you step out of the car? >> I'll explain what's going on. Okay. >> Okay. Just your phone right here. No, >> you're trying to open the door. I'm sorry. Turn around for me. Turn around for me. Don't make this hard. Turn around for me. You going to make me pay for it. >> No. >> Turn around. Turn around. That's all I'm telling you. >> Are you going to get my >> I I'll I I'll expl I'll explain every single thing. You're not arrested. Okay. You're just You're You're being detained >> because I tried to come to them and I tried to pay >> 461 detained. >> My door. >> Yeah. I will shut it. Yeah. My other office is right there >> cuz my phone it failed to I tried to show her. It failed to pay the thing. Okay. I I had it on my >> Just give me I'll I'll get your side. Just got to figure out what's going on. Okay. So, you're detained. I'm going to sit you in my car. Okay. So, you're being detained for a shoplifting investigation right now. Okay. I I know. I know. So, before before you say anything, can I get your first and last name? >> Holly. >> The woman immediately appeared panicked, constantly trying to explain herself, clearly showing she already knew why police had arrived. Moments later, she began telling officers her side of the story. I just want to say too because I remember scanning my scan things that pay to go. I literally s sat there and scanned every single item in the cart. >> Like I literally sat there and scanned every single item and if they were watching over thems took them all. >> So why would you scan them and then uh >> you pay to go? >> What do you mean? >> Scan and go. So you scan your items and then you just scan your barcode and you leave >> without the items? >> No, with the items. No, you don't scan them at the checkout. So you were using a scan and go app. >> Yes. They said I was that app out of Walmart off >> Walmart. Walmart.com >> Walmart plus or whatever. >> Okay. Yes. >> So why would you leave him then if you already scanned them? >> Because they took them from me. >> Who took them from you? >> The man. The man did. >> Okay. Did he identify? >> Because he said that I stole all this stuff and I said no. I definitely scanned it. >> So when you left >> I got scared. >> So what did you tell them? You just you just left. You said okay. And you just left. >> Yes. >> Okay. Because I remember scanning the phone where I had every single item scanned on there. The best of my knowledge, every single item. I was over there like far away from people cuz I had a lot of stuff. >> Mhm. >> And I was making sure everything got scanned because sometimes when you put it in the cart, you put two, three things in the cart. You don't know if you got them all. >> So I was going through and I scanned all of them, make sure they're all scanned. And then I went to the front and then I remember I needed to send them in. She insisted that she had scanned every single item and was completely certain about it. But when it came to the actual payment, officers immediately began questioning that part of her story. >> But you didn't pay for it. >> It must have it must have failed the transaction, which it has done that to me multiple times. It says uh pay. Hold on. I'm trying. I had a PDI, so my memory sometimes isn't as good, but it says um it was just up on my phone. That's when I told her. I said it it failed to send it failed to to go. Like can I just scan it again? and she said, "No, you didn't even try to scan it." And that's not true. I definitely did. >> Okay. So, >> I was trying to see what it says. >> So, you say you're good to go. >> So, you were at the self checkout and you were about to produce the barcode to be able to pay for items. >> But it said transaction failed. >> No. To my It says I can't remember the exact terminology. He probably knows what I'm talking about cuz it does this to me all the time. >> So, why keep using it? cuz you back and stuff. >> Even though it gives you the same issue all the time. >> Well, they >> I guess. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> They said they were working on it. >> Who was working on it? >> The Walmart app people, >> but not them. >> No, they not them. >> Okay. >> This isn't my you know, I don't go here. >> But it's it's it pretty much says you're all Yeah, it does. It says you're all set whenever whenever after you scan the barcode. Have you been Have you been arrested before? >> Yes, I was 18 and I >> She claimed to be a nurse while also blaming memory issues, yet still walked away, leaving $1,300 worth of merchandise behind. It quickly raised suspicions that she was making excuses for her actions, especially when she still refused to accept the evidence shown right in front of her. >> Is there anybody that can come pick up your phone? Anybody that can come pick up the screenshot? >> They're not telling us what they just heard. They said that I passed all points of sale and I did not. If I just look at the tape, please my screenshot shows that I paid. >> It's the same as the receipt. >> You would have got a printed receipt, man. >> No. No, it doesn't print out when I use the app. Okay. >> It's on there. >> What do you want us to do with the vehicle, man? I'm I'm going to call somebody to come get it >> right now. It's a felony also because it's over $750. It's Listen List List List List List List List List List List. >> Oh my I'm going to practition my license. >> Listen, I'm just doing my job. Listen to me. >> Listen. >> I didn't even listen. >> You're at $1,300 right now. Okay. That's all you have. Yes, cuz they stopped you outside of the store. >> No, I was not outside of the store. >> It's okay. I wasn't outside of the store. I was in the lawn apartment and they stopped the cart like before I could even pull it >> and they said come with me. >> Hey, so >> and I said, "Oh, can I just re I said I said she said, "Do I have a receipt?" >> Hey, that's the route we're going to go. Okay. So, I'm also going to issue a trespass from that store and that's going to be poor life. Okay. And being a family, you're going to have no bond. That's going to be first thing tomorrow morning. >> Oh my god. Listen, Ollie. Ollie, >> I'm going to pass out. I'm going to pass out. >> Listen, can I can I just talk to the lady? >> No, we're pass out. Okay. They want to prosecute. They want to go. I'm really >> You want me to call an ambulance? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'm not They're on the They're on the way. Okay. >> She still refused to admit what she had done. And as the situation stopped going her way, she became increasingly overwhelmed, forcing officers to explain everything to her once again. >> See what I mean? I I I truly believe that I thought I >> I'm not I'm not arguing with you, okay? My job is not to try you on the side of your neighbors with this officers. Okay? Our job is to determine if we have a probable cause for an arrest, which is different than you being found guilty of something. Okay? So, you're going to end up needing to get this phone forensically an analyzed, which we cannot do on the side of the road to validate your what you're saying. There's no way for us to do that here on the side of the road. >> Use my nursing. >> No, ma'am. Because you're not found guilty of it. You're only being charged with it. >> I understand. But you're not. >> No, ma'am. My wife has my wife has a nursing license. So I understand this very clearly. Okay. It's it's convictions that they go after, not charges. Okay? Because you are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law, not in a court on the side of the road. Okay? Here we're just charging you with it. All right? So what that does that gives you the opportunity to release your phone to say your lawyer. Okay? Your lawyer can have this digitally analyzed to validate what you're saying that the Walmart app failed. Okay. No, ma'am. You did. You showed me a screenshot. I have no way of verifying that that picture is when you say it happened. That picture could have taken I don't know when. So that's what I'm saying. So you have the opportunity to say no. There at failed. I have no way of proving that on the side of the road. Holly was charged with thirdderee grand theft, a felony offense tied to the $1,300 worth of unpaid merchandise. Making excuses, denying evidence, and refusing to cooperate only makes a situation far worse when the truth is already in front of you. What do you think about cases like this? >> [music]
