Have a seat right over there, sir. Don't pull the shirt out of your pants, sir. Shirts. Is that all you got? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, go and have a seat for me. >> I'm taking a chance, sir. >> We'll see what's going on, okay? >> I was just trying to get a hot meal. >> I understand. >> I did that. Yeah, I was trying >> You got to run for both? So, these shirts are at least $48. Cuz they're $24 a piece. That's what I said. But shirts are expensive. Okay. I'll be out with a shoplifter in the LP office. >> From the man's expression, it was clear that he understood exactly what was happening. But the problem remained when police found more issues through his information. >> Okay. Now, if it doesn't come back, we're going to be talking, okay? I have your name and you got a Georgia You got a Georgia ID? >> I'm telling you that's my real name. >> Okay, George, I'm just saying George I >> here. Okay, we're sure. 398 radio, can I get one case number? >> 8000-05. >> The last time somebody ran my name, they said the same thing. They said that it wasn't me. >> What's your uh address, I'm sorry? >> homeless. >> Homeless, >> At that moment, while police were processing paperwork, the man took advantage of the loss prevention office door being open and made a move that would only add more charges against himself. >> 398 radio on and foot pursuit of the subject. He just ran from me HEADED TOWARDS PIB. HE'S GOING TO BE WEARING CAMOUFLAGE PANTS, WHITE T-SHIRT, and brown cap. He just ran around PI PIB towards the new construction site. He ran down to the Lane Clark Center. He's going to have a brown beanie cap and a backpack. You see somebody run through here? >> No. >> Hey, do you want a perimeter around the construction site? I'll start there. >> Negative, he ran down the road to the lane. I lost him as he entered It looks like he just entered into Kenswick. The back up here. >> If you were a thief who planned a run like this and thought hiding somewhere would work, I advise you to think again because police could easily share information across the area with many patrol officers nearby. So, the man was quickly stopped. >> 3527 Hidden Circle. >> On the [ __ ] ground now. On the ground. On the ground. On the ground. You run I'm going to taze you, do you hear me? >> I ain't going to run. I just stopped running. >> My mouth My lips are so full. >> All right, one second. >> Well, probably got to cross the street and be fine. Stay in circle. >> Shut your mouth. Don't run from us. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> No, he was never caught. >> Well, don't [ __ ] run. >> Well, you obviously cared if you ran. >> Stand up. You got gloves? What? Well, I caught you, right? >> You didn't. >> Well, the radio caught you anyways. >> Yeah, and I stopped. >> Yeah, you're lucky you didn't run. >> What you going to do? >> If you would have ran If you would have ran, you would have been tased. I can promise you that. >> You got something in your pocket you want to take out? >> No, I don't. >> Search this one. Search this one. Put his stuff in his pocket. >> I mean, I'm putting the phone back in his pocket. >> Your phone was going to be >> Y'all ain't got my property yet, bro. Put my phone back in my pocket. Y'all ain't got my words, bro. >> Yeah, hold on, bro. Hey. >> You need to get my phone. >> Yeah, he got a reason to move. >> Yeah, we good. >> He was shameless because he did not just run. He still tried to flee with the stolen items on his back, and police later returned them to the store. >> Whose shift is it next? Cuz I know shift change is going to happen at 6:30. >> 6:30? >> Uh 18. >> 18? >> Yeah. >> God damn, we sitting in this [ __ ] >> This is his cell phone. >> Audio video. >> This is my kid. My guy. >> Is it my kid? >> Is it my guy? >> brand new. >> This H&M, we stole it from H&M. >> Okay. H&M? That's a Walmart shirt. So, you guys want to stay real quick? I'm going to walk in and buy them some water and give them some drink, okay? Do you? Okay. Come on, sit up. I'll get you some water. Here you go. You can hold your water. Just keep it. You can drink it, okay? I'll get the window I got the windows down, so We'll fix that over He's I it's a probation violation. >> Finally, the man was charged with obstruction and theft by shoplifting. Running from a mistake only made the consequences worse because one bad decision quickly turned into even more charges. Next, the shoplifter decided to turn herself in. >> She stuffed it in the bag. I've seen her do everything. So, then I had to come >> What happens if I put on the paper I want to kill myself? [music] >> Well, then if that's what you're feeling at >> On the 19th of March, 2025, a woman walked into a police station to turn herself in for a shoplifting incident at Target 2 weeks earlier, showing remorse for what she had done. This was what happened next. >> All right, so it's March 5th at about 8:25 p.m. at Target. You want to tell me what happened? >> Yes. I was with this girl and came to the music department to steal some things. I had her in my car. We went to Target. So, when we were in the store, I had told her, "Can you please put this stuff back?" cuz she was stealing. She had a big bag, like this big. And we saw that we went to that bank. She stole a lot of stuff. Her name is Meredith O'Connor. >> What's that? >> Meredith O'Connor Like O'C A M P O >> Okay. >> So Meredith? >> Uh-huh. I'll tell you where she stay at, too. She stay at um her address. I don't know her address, but she stay at South >> Trip >> That's in Chicago, Illinois, by Archer, not too far from here. >> Okay. Well, that's right by the airport. >> I could show you guys where she stay at. I could literally you guys could patrol me and I'll take you to her house so you could see where she stays at. >> Is that Are you guys friends or how do you know? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I knew her and each other since high school. >> Okay. >> So that day I had told the people when they had stopped us at the door, I said, "I don't have nothing. You could check me." >> [snorts] >> The same way I had came in the same store with a jacket on, that's where I'm going to leave out of here with. I don't have nothing. I told them you could go ahead. I went like this. I went to the guy and just like this. I said, "You could check me." I spread my legs out. You want to check me before I leave? I said, "If anything, she's the one who had everything in her purse." She stuffed it in there. I seen her do everything. So in the end I had come and then when I had told the police like I would I was going to leave, but then that's when old girl, she was by the door and she seen that they were coming getting closer to her. So then she ran my way. >> Although she cooperated and pointed to her accomplice, she still tried to minimize her own role, especially when police questioned her intent. >> Yes. >> What was your guys' intention? Did you guys Did you know she was going to go in there and steal? >> No. Okay. I had a couple dollars on me, but I was looking in the store to see what I was going to get. And then I didn't I didn't know she was stealing, you know, cuz I was over here, and you know, she kept going around. Then when we got when I got so close to her, she's like she went like this and she said, "Why are you following me?" And I told her, "You got to put that stuff back." >> What kind of items were you looking for? How much money did you have on you? >> I had like five bucks. >> What kind of items were you going to >> What what I was going to look for, I was going to look for something really small, like cosmetic stuff. >> Okay. >> But she I didn't know that she was going to go in there and steal. She went to like four stores. >> Before that? >> Yeah. >> So she and she stole everything? >> And she stole everything. >> And you didn't think that she was going to go into another store after she only had four stores and steal again? >> Yes, I did. I'm going to be honest with you. Yes, but I had told her to stop doing that because I had told her that I told her I'm going to go with the car so they're going to look at me like I'm the one the bad guy. I'm not the bad guy here. >> Yeah. >> I'm not the I'm to be honest with you, I'm not the bad guy. I I wouldn't steal. Can I tell you something? Look, I know that whatever I say could be used against me, but I'm going to be honest with you. I completely honest. When I was younger, I was like five. I I stole something. >> Okay. >> They came I I they put me in the back they put they took me to Grand Central. I was in Grand Central for >> [clears throat] >> one night. The next day they transported me to Tennessee in California. I had learned this lesson when I was younger. >> Although she tried to avoid responsibility for her actions, her wrongdoing was hard to change, and police made that clear. >> In 10 minutes, okay? >> It's okay. It's okay. >> Listen, I know you're going through some tough stuff. You know what I mean? It is what it is, and we're not going to make this any bigger deal than what it is already. You know what I mean? You took some things. You know, you're you're going to be out of here in in 10 minutes. What happens is we're going to just put your name into the system. We're going to fingerprint you, take your picture, and then we're going to give you some paperwork for a court date, and you're gone. But you can't go back to Target, okay? You can't go back into that store no more cuz if they see you, they're going to want you arrested for trespassing and I don't want to go through this again. You know what I mean? But if your friend's telling you to do that and that's truly what you're saying, you just got to be stronger. You got to be stronger because like your dad said, you're just going to get yourself into some more trouble. And if she's if she's a bad influence on you, you can't be hanging around with her. But the fact of the matter is is by the statute, you're the one that carried that bag out. You can I don't know. But but once you Here's the thing, once you once you pass into that vestibule, you pass those things, that's you you're committing a retail theft. >> You passed the last point of purchase, yeah. >> It's over. You know what I mean? It's >> So it's it's a very small it's a very minute small thing that is in there but but that's what it is. So like I said, we're not going to make this anything bigger than what it is. You know, we just got to put your name into a system real quick and then we'll fingerprint photograph you and you're going to walk out the door. Okay? >> It was clear that she became overwhelmed with remorse after hearing the consequences of her actions, even expressing deeply troubling thoughts. >> Well, nothing that I put on the paper, I want to kill myself. >> Well, then if that's what you're feeling, I'm going to have to get you an ambulance. >> But I was going to ask you, am is I'm going to get my car back? Or you guys are going to jump my car? >> We didn't take your car. Didn't you Your dad took the car. >> Mhm. >> Is it out there? >> I don't know if my car is still here. >> Well, I'm not We're not going to take your car. >> So you guys towed it. I thought you guys jumped it. >> Who towed it? We towed her car? >> Nope. >> Not us. You drove away from it in Target that day, right? >> No. Okay, yes. Yes. Yes. But I literally not too long ago, I was just here at one of your stations. >> This is our This is our only station. We're a small department. Unless the city or somebody got you for something else. >> Are you up to date on payments on everything? >> Like tickets? >> No, like do you owe >> Do you owe money on the car like when you bought it? >> No. >> No? >> When did When did When have you not had your car? When's the last time you had it? >> The last time I had it was like 2 days ago before I got in a car accident on Columbus and Western. >> Oh, so the city got That's That's over in the uh >> I don't even know where that's at. >> That's It could be said that her self-harm thoughts might have shifted the case toward a mental health crisis, but because she was still concerned about her car, police believed she was stable and gave her some advice. >> That big of a deal. You're still young. We got guys here that started their careers at like >> 40? >> Yeah. You're only 29. >> Age is just a number, too. >> I hear a lot >> You got to be young You got to be young at heart. That's it. Be young at heart. >> I think this is a really tough world out here. >> It is. Ain't getting any easier, but for the most part it works out. You know what I mean? Everybody has their little, you know, problems, whatever you run into, you know what I mean? >> That's true. >> And you you you get by. Like today, it's a little problem for you, but 10 minutes, you'll be out of here. You'll be walking down Archer in this beautiful weather. You know what I mean? Got some money in your pocket. >> Yeah, you're right cuz they told me yesterday that if I don't show up and don't come here, they said that >> Well, then they get a warrant for you. And again, now they change the warrants, so then if they grabbed you, you would literally have to sit and wait to see the judge. >> And that could be a I mean, I mean, you could be It could be Christmas morning if contact police, guess what? >> Wow. >> That's it. >> That's it. You can't You can't pay a bond to get out anymore. They just The judge ordered it, you got to go see him or her, whoever, you know what I mean? >> Or you come on your own time and you're out. >> Like this, you'd be out in 10. This is taking Honest to god, this is taking a little bit longer because they had some Yeah, he's >> In the end, the woman was charged with retail theft. Learn that choosing to turn yourself in and cooperate early can prevent a minor mistake from escalating into more serious legal consequences and gives you a chance to correct your path sooner. Next, these suspects took the incident far beyond an ordinary theft. >> Walking away from me you just got to call me a scared. >> I'm not scared of you. I just don't want to lose my job. Or that was there cuz my glasses were off. So, feet, fist, everything just >> Okay. >> On September 27, officers received a frantic 911 call from a Circle K store reporting that two women had stolen cans of alcohol and poured them out to destroy the evidence. Things got even worse when an employee caught them and still attempted to charge them, but they responded with shocking actions. Here was what they did as captured on surveillance cameras. >> [music] >> WHAT'S UP, [ __ ] IF YOU WERE THE THIEF IN THIS CASE, HERE WAS THE bad news. In just 1 minute, you had landed yourself with three charges: theft, assaulting an employee, and damaging store property. It also clearly left the employee shaken by the time officers arrived at the scene. >> And there's and it looks like it goes on and on throughout the store on her way out. >> Yeah. >> All right. Are you injured anywhere, ma'am? >> I don't think so. I have little cuts and scrapes. >> Are you >> And my glasses are broken. >> Do you need EMS? >> No. >> No? Have you ever seen this person before? >> I'm pretty sure she's come in before, yeah. >> Okay. >> What was the lady trying to steal? >> It's all on camera. >> I I got it. I got it. >> One quick question, was she in Was she trying to steal? >> Yes. >> And you confronted her. >> I asked her where the cans of alcohol that you had cuz I watched her take it out of the store. And she put them in the cooler cup cup that's down here after she threw it at me cuz they smell like alcohol. It's all over the machine. It's all over >> So, she poured them in there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, when I asked her where the cans were, she got all defensive and then was like, "Say what?" And then she threw the cooler cup at me. I'm sorry. She threw the cup at me. >> Okay. >> And then she came around the corner and >> That's one thing. >> she hit me. That's why I hit her back. >> Okay. >> And a customer, a male customer that was trying to buy stuff, came around the counter along with her little friend. And he had to pull her off of me and then I told her to get the out and leave. And she kept running her mouth. She went outside, came back in, went outside, came back in, tried to chase me around the store again, and I kept walking away from her. And she kept calling me a scaredy I'm not scared of you. I just don't want to lose my job. Not to mention, I'm 4 ft 11 and you're like, what? 5 ft 6 ft. >> Wait for me. >> I'm tiny. I don't want to be beat up by nobody. >> Returning to the earlier theft, officers reviewed the surveillance footage while also listening to the employee's statement to piece together exactly what had happened. >> What were they saying when they were bringing their those cups in? >> Um cuz >> I had seen her go over there cuz the doors make a ding ding when you open them. So, when they opened, I looked over there and I could see her and as she had two cans in her hand, walked over to the Polar Pop area on this side of the counter. So, then when she came up with her friend, she had two Polar Pop cups, but no cans. So, I already knew. I'm not dumb. I've worked for Circle K for 7 years. I know how this works. So, I was like, "Where's the cans of alcohol?" And she goes, "Oh, I didn't want them anymore, so I threw them away." And I said, "Well, can you go get them so you can pay for them?" And she goes, "Why don't you go get them?" And was in my face and then picked up the cup and she was like, "Say I won't." Like to throw it at me, which she [ __ ] did. And I was like, "I'm not saying that you won't." I was like, "I just want the cans. You go get them." And she threw it at me and then she came around the counter and >> Yeah. >> Chaos. She hit me, I hit her. I might have hit the friend and the poor customer that was there cuz my glasses were off. So, feet, fists, everything just >> Okay. When they came back into the store, did they say anything or >> The the friend didn't come back in, but she had come back in and she had went over there, which I'm guessing she was looking for her stuff. Um she came back over there, was running her mouth and I told her, I'm sorry for my language, I told her, "Get the [ __ ] out." Like just get the [ __ ] out, go away. And then she came back up to the counter and then started walking this way like she was going to come back over behind the counter. >> No, the girl that hit me. So, then I >> Okay. >> So, then I stepped over the on the floor to go that way and she called me a scaredy which you're two times my size, lady. I'm not a fighter. >> The woman who assaulted the employee was believed to have dropped her keys at the store after the incident, but instead of returning herself, knowing the trouble she had caused, her mother showed up sometime later. >> happened cuz I was home. So, she text me and said she just got in a fight. >> Okay. >> So, I'm like, "Okay." She said, "I just got in a fight to the Circle K, and the lady think that me and the girl was stealing." Like that. And I'm like, She said, "I might be going to jail." >> Okay. >> So, I was like, "Okay." >> Okay. >> So, I don't know what happened inside the store. I don't know if she was in there stealing. I don't know. So, >> Got you. >> I was home. >> I mean, >> And >> if you if you do get a hold of your daughter, her best bet is just come talk to me. All right? He has my case number, and go from there. >> Yeah. Yeah, I would. >> You know You know what I'm saying? If If she If If her side of the story is different to what I was told, then I can write her statement what's going on. But you from you just tell me that you saying that she got into a fight into into the store, I need her side of the of her story, okay? >> Okay. I am. >> But like I said, I gave him I provided him my name with the case number, so owner of that of that of that key can come to the PD and claim it. >> Okay. She said, "Ma, I don't know if I will be going to jail or not, but I just I'm just letting you know that I got into a fight with a lady at Circle K. We know what Circle K." >> Okay. >> Shortly after, the mother even showed officers her text messages with her daughter, and from them, the suspect showed no real sign of taking responsibility for what she had done. >> She said, "Ma, I don't know if I will be going to jail or not, but I just I'm just letting you know that I got into a fight with a lady at Circle K. We know what Circle K." >> Okay. >> So, she she the thing didn't say. So, so call the police. She called somebody. She called the police on me cuz she said that I was stealing, which we wasn't. We was going to pay for it, me and Jose. >> Okay. >> That's my text. Well, I don't have any money, so I don't know what to tell you. >> I got you. Okay. Like I said, if you can call or text or whatever, I work till 7:00. Our best bet is to is to call me so I can talk to her in person and go from there. Cuz if not, I'm going to I'm going to put out a warrant for her arrest. >> Baby, that's fine with me. >> Okay. >> Here's my thing. I'm just being as normal for real, for real. I'd rather her be in jail instead of charged. Cuz most people I ain't saying you, but most people in general Well, actually, she passed. So Hey. >> Finally, the woman was charged with burglary with battery, petty theft, and criminal mischief. Stealing may seem small at first, but once violence and destruction are added, a minor theft can quickly turn into serious criminal charges and jail time. Next, what happened when the thief turned out to be the STORE'S OWN EMPLOYEE? >> HELP! >> ALL RIGHT, MA'AM. >> GET OFF OF ME! >> PUT HER IN THE CAR. Put her in your car. >> Listen, I'll stop talking. >> Stop talking? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'm going to say it right now. >> On the 12th of August, 2025, police received a report from a 7-Eleven store about an employee showing multiple suspicious behaviors during his 4:00 a.m. shift. After quickly arriving at the scene, the manager there gave an initial statement about the incident. >> What's going on? >> Okay. So, like, we had a few audit losses back-to-back, and then, um, we started watching the tapes. So, what he was doing was he was >> Was it like 5,000 the first time and 15k last and next time, right? >> And then um, we started pulling up the surveillance tapes and we noticed like during his shift he starts like stealing stuff like crates of like merchandise goods, drinks and everything. And then he goes like under the pretense of throwing away trash and then he stops by his car cuz it's reverse parked right there. He hops over the trunk and dumps everything into the trunk. Last Wednesday when we met with you and Officer Lopez we camped out the whole night we were watching the clean live and he did steal headphones and drinks and stuff then but he didn't do the trunk dump. And then Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday he doesn't work. So today is his first day back again cuz he works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. >> What did he What did he do on that >> Wednesday night he ended up stealing headphones, drinks and stuff. >> Is that on video, too? >> Yes, but he didn't do the trunk dump on the Wednesday. Today he did the trunk dump. >> did he do on Wednesday? >> Monday, Tuesday he did the Last week Monday, Tuesday he did the trunk dump. Wednesday he stole but did not dump it into his trunk. But today again he's got like >> Where did he place it though? On Wednesday? >> Oh, on Wednesday? So what he did was he drank a lot of the drinks and then he put it in his backpack. And then the headphones he he the trash that he takes out he tossed them in there and then he went to the dumpster area and took the headphones over there and comes back. Like he stopped by his car but he didn't do anything in it. But I'm a little afraid like when we go in there I don't know if we have to call the cops. >> is you guys are going to stay over here. >> Okay. >> We'll go over there, we'll do all the talking and whatnot. Once we have him secure then you guys go over here, I'll go over there and then we can start tallying the expenses that have been approved from what he was taking and placing in his car. >> Police confirmed that all of the suspect's actions were real. They then entered the store to arrest him but things quickly spiraled out of control. >> No. >> There's a homeless guy in the back. >> Oh. >> I just want to let him know he's trespassing. >> No. No. Just just ask him to leave. >> Okay. Put your hands over here. You're not doing it. Relax. >> Relax. >> What's wrong? What's wrong? No. No. No. Tell me what TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG. >> RELAX. >> WHAT'S WRONG? TELL ME >> RELAX. >> RELAX. >> Tell me what's wrong. What did I do? Tell me what I'VE DONE. >> HEY. >> I AM RELAXED. I am relaxed. >> Hey. Hey. >> Give us your hands. >> Why you >> Put your hands behind your [ __ ] back. >> I have my rights. I have questions. What am I being arrested for? Tell me what I'm being arrested for. Tell me. Tell me what I'm being arrested for. >> Relax. >> Just please. Please, man. >> We'll explain to you in a second. >> Hey. >> We'll explain to you in a second. >> Please. Please. No. Just listen to me, please. Can I please talk? Please, man. I'm just about to get out of here, man. >> We'll explain to you in a second. >> I can't afford this, man. >> We'll explain to you in a second. >> WHY YOU SLAMMING ME? STOP. STOP. MY BACK IS HURT. >> TURN AROUND. Turn around now. >> Turn around. >> TURN AROUND. >> WHY YOU GUYS FIGHTING ME? >> TURN AROUND. >> WHY YOU ARRESTING ME? >> TURN AROUND. HEY. >> HELP. >> TURN AROUND, DUDE. >> TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG, MAN. >> Go ahead. >> Stop fighting me. >> Turn around. >> Please stop. Please. >> Give me your stomach. >> Please. Please. >> I'm just going to GET YOUR STOMACH. >> [screaming] >> I'M BEING HURT. >> GIVE ME YOUR STOMACH. >> STOP, MAN. STOP, PLEASE. PLEASE, MAN. >> Give me your stomach. >> Stop. Stop, man. >> He immediately resisted before police could explain why he was being detained, repeatedly struggling against them. Now, he used his rights as a citizen to make things even more difficult. >> Get up, man. >> Listen to me, man. >> Stand up. Sorry, stand up. >> I know my rights. >> Stand up. Stand up. >> I know my rights perfectly well. >> Stand up. >> I know my rights perfectly well, man. >> Stand up. >> Stop pulling me. >> Stand up, dude. >> You guys STOP PULLING ME. >> STAND UP, DUDE. >> TELL ME WHAT I DID. >> I WILL IF YOU STAND UP. >> I HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW THAT. >> STAND UP, DUDE. >> IT IS MY RIGHT TO KNOW THAT. >> STAND UP. >> IT IS MY RIGHT to know why I'm being harassed. >> Stand up. No, all right. >> Call one of your senior officers, all right, cuz they all know me. All the senior officers already know me, so call call one of them. >> ON YOUR BACK, DUDE. >> STOP fighting me, man. >> ON YOUR BACK. >> STOP FIGHTING ME. >> STAND UP. HOW ABOUT THIS? STAND UP. Stand up. >> Stand up. >> Tell me what I've done. >> Stand up. >> I'm fighting. >> Just stand up. >> Huh? >> Stand up. >> Tell me what I've done. >> Stand up. >> I'm I'm sitting right here, man. >> Stand up. >> I'm sitting right here. Just tell me what I've done. >> Stand up. >> Tell me what I've done. Tell me what I've Tell me what I've done. >> Dude, GET UP. >> TELL ME WHAT I'VE DONE. >> GET UP. >> TELL ME WHAT I'VE DONE. >> Just tell me what I've done, man. I'm in here working. >> You guys want to play? Get on your stomach, dude. >> Get off of me, please. Just get off of me. TELL ME WHAT I'VE DONE. >> Get up. >> I need to know what I've done. >> Get up first. >> Could you stop harassing ME? >> GET UP. >> YOU CALLED ME OUT. >> GET UP. >> TOLD ME THERE'S A HOMELESS GUY. >> GET UP. >> AND THEN YOU GUYS JUMPING ON ME. >> STAND UP. >> TELL ME WHAT I'VE DONE. >> STAND UP FIRST. >> I KNOW MY RIGHTS, YOU GODDAMN [ __ ] >> STAND UP FIRST. >> WHO ARE YOU CALLING A [ __ ] >> WILL YOU STAND UP? >> HELP! >> ALL RIGHT. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> STOP. >> I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I'VE DONE. STOP. GET OFF OF ME, MAN. GET OFF OF ME. >> POLICE struggled for a long time before finally managing to handcuff the suspect. Once officers explained why this was happening, >> [music] >> it was safe to say his arrogance completely collapsed. >> I like to know what I'm being arrested for. That's all I That's all I've been asking for. >> I've read you these rights in mind. Do you wish to talk to me now? >> Yes. >> Okay. Here's the deal, okay? I'll ask you a question. All right? All right, tonight what's in your trunk? >> A gray box. I got a crate in my trunk. >> Okay. What's What's the crate from? >> Uh the store. >> You take it from the store? >> Yes, it was. >> From where? >> What? >> Huh? >> What? >> I I I can't take crates with me because I was in the back so. >> Okay. Does that box Does that box belong to you? >> Huh? >> Does that box Does that box belong to you? >> The what? >> Does that box belong to you? >> That? It's just the crate. >> Does that Does the stuff in the crate belong to you? >> What's in the crate? >> All right. I'm I'm I'm going to give you a break to you, okay? Your bosses If you were on the store, okay? We have video surveillance of you in the back of the store with that crate and you putting stuff inside the crate. Specifically store merchandise, okay? Tell you what I saw, all right? You had two crates. One at top and one stacked on top of the other, all right? Like you were doing that, you put stuff in the crate. You also went from behind the store towards front of the store, grabbed some more, took the crate back there, whatever drink you had in your hand, put it in the crate. With that crate, put that crate, came outside, put that stuff that contents of the crate as well as the crate in your trunk. Okay? And also apparently there have been several incidents in which you've done it where their household have camera footage of you on it, too. So, you need to answer me. Why or why did you take the stuff in the back of the store, put it in the crate, put it in your trunk? >> Listen, I'll stop talking right here, man. >> Stop talking? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Let me say it right now. Right now, you're under arrest for shoplifting and resisting without violence. Okay? Put your feet in the car. Put your feet in the car like an actual gang. Thank you. Can you call the 10-8 over here? >> With every word from the police, he regretted his actions a little more. Moments later, the stolen items in his car were also recovered. >> Goodies. Oh, yeah. Goodies. >> Oh, it's like almost like the stuff that he took out of the store. How about that one? >> No, it was none in Well, all we saw was this one from the security >> So, that one was already in here from the security camera from the last >> Yeah, this one is the one he took from the back. >> Weren't you already over here? >> Huh? >> Why did you You said something about having the 10-8's come over. Were you already >> Oh, yeah, his car's right there. Oh, yeah, he's already He's already over here. I didn't know he was over here already. I didn't know. Uh, it doesn't roll out, apparently. >> What? >> I was I couldn't breathe. >> What? >> I couldn't I couldn't breathe. That's why I was I was trying to see if you could >> called being claustrophobic, man. >> You couldn't breathe? >> Yeah, um there's air coming to the back of you. Air into the back here, so just got to calm down, take some deep breaths. You'll be all right, man. >> I'm I'm claustrophobic, man. Okay. I'm just >> Okay. >> I'm just about to get out of this situation, man. >> I got you. Well, that's This doesn't help that. Let's not make bad decisions. >> He's not resisting or anything. Are you using force or >> In reality, the suspect showed no shame for what he had done, and he even admitted it himself while being escorted away. >> Is it okay if I sit right here in the middle so I can get some more air? Please. I'm claustrophobic, so I just wanted to ask you about something. Oh, I was just asking, man. How bad is this looking for Yeah, I I won't have to go before a judge to get a bond. I have no shame, man. Y'all can just tell Y'all can just say it. >> The man was charged with petty theft, resisting an officer without violence, and violation of probation. Let this be a lesson that stealing and refusing to cooperate with police will only turn a bad decision into even harsher consequences. Next, this woman even tried to steal her own car. >> GET ON THE GROUND NOW. GET ON THE GROUND. I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU 2 MORE SECONDS. GET ON THE GROUND. >> SO, fill me in. What what happened? >> Okay. >> How How did it escalate to this point, you know? >> Because >> On the 22nd of January, 2026, officers were dispatched to an impound lot after a woman attempted to steal her own vehicle that had previously been impounded for an earlier violation. The moment they arrived on scene, the atmosphere immediately turned tense. >> Get on the ground. Get on the ground. GET ON THE GROUND. YOU'RE GOING TO GET TASED. GET ON THE GROUND NOW. GET ON THE GROUND. I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU 2 MORE SECONDS. GET ON THE GROUND. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. What's wrong with you? What's wrong with you? Where's your camera one? >> The what? 5628 >> Are you stupid or are you stupid? >> What did I do? 7628 >> When we give you instructions, you follow them. >> Okay. You can take my hand. >> Give me a second. Don't start reaching, please. Do not start reaching. >> hurt, though. >> All right, come on. >> [snorts] >> Okay. I said I can't uh >> Shortly after the woman was arrested, an officer approached the employees on scene to clarify what had happened, and it appeared that everything leading up to it had been completely brazen. >> You need medical attention? >> Uh >> They can't do anything for the pepper spray, but >> so. >> All right. Walk me through what happened. >> I should have it on camera. >> Perfect. Let's see. >> Yeah. Uh well >> You want to move it up? He wants to get through, he said. >> So, uh I open the gate? >> Yeah. >> I left my truck right there where it was at. >> With the car attached? >> Uh no, no, no. >> Okay. Okay. >> I just got here to go to work. >> Okay. >> Uh I came here with my motorcycle. >> Okay. >> So, um I was putting the the white trailer over there. >> Okay. >> I know you got the rest of it. That's my trailer. So, I was bringing the motorcycle. >> Okay. Okay. >> But, I left my truck there. Always I didn't see her coming. >> Okay. >> Um He called me cuz he was going to do that gate. So, I dropped it in somebody's back. I didn't know what you want my nose. So, I go back. But, as I'm I'm walking back, I noticed that um she had I think I was parked behind the blue Honda right there. >> Okay. >> So, she had moved it over here, but she cannot go out if my truck is there. >> Yeah. >> I said I want to park over there. She hopped in my truck. She was racing all the way. She moved it like a little bit this way on the scrap metal place. >> Okay. >> She left it right in the middle. >> She left what in the middle? >> Uh my truck. Like she parked it right there where that white semi is at right now. >> She got in your truck and moved it? >> She got in my truck. She I left it up and over my back. Um She reversed it. And then drove it right ahead into the into the scrap metal place. And then by then I'm I see that she's moving my truck. So, I'm going to be running. She's running back. She passed by me. I clo- I closed the gate. She drove to the gate. Uh she hit the gate. I she >> With your truck? >> No, no. With her car. >> With her car? >> my truck over there. So, she drove with her car. Um Always I close the gate. She hit the gate. She passed She hit the gate twice. She opened the door. She got out with her perfect six. She stopped right there between the gate and I didn't close the gate all the way. >> According to the employees, she had slipped in right behind them when they were not paying attention, showing that she had planned it in advance, but by their account, what she did inside the impound lot was anything but discreet. >> When she sees that my truck is there, she goes to my truck. >> Oh, okay. >> Okay. >> it up, puts it in the scrap metal place. So, while she's doing that, I'm running. I I almost broke my leg so I I run like this. >> So, I'm like hopping over here. As I'm running through the gate, she rolls back. But, I close the gate. >> Yeah. >> So, she gets back in her car. She runs She hits the gate twice. >> With the blue Honda? >> No, with the with the Malibu >> Oh, the Malibu that they answered >> Yeah, I guess it's still back there. >> Um but, I'm I'm standing between the fence and the gate holding it like this. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm holding it here. So, she opens her driver's side. Both sides facing this house through which she pepper sprays. >> Okay. Um did you give her I know stupid, did you give permission to get inside your car? Did you give permission to pepper spray you? Do you want to press charges for both? >> Yes. >> Okay. Um did she pay for her car to get removed here? >> I've seen her walk through our office. From my understanding. >> Okay. Um can you show me which one's her car? >> Uh it should be the Malibu right there. >> Back to the suspect, she showed not a hint of guilt on her face and even seemed strangely proud of what she had done. Hey, what's going on, ma'am? I'm Officer Perez, OPD. Um you're a memory from over there, so >> From my work. >> Oh, back there. Yeah. All right, so I'm going to just read your rights. Just give me a verbal yes or no. Um if you don't want to talk to me, you don't have to talk to me. I'm just going to ask you some questions. However, they it could be incriminating questions, okay? So, So, fill me in. What what happened? >> Okay. >> How how did it escalate to this point, you know? >> Because I was at an apartment moving out. >> You're going to what? You're moving out? >> I was at apartment moving >> Okay. >> moving out my stuff out the apartment. >> Okay. >> Like moving out. >> Okay. >> So, I parked the car and backed in, opened up the trunk, and was putting the bags >> Okay. >> back and forth. But, the bags were on the ground. So, they came and closed the trunk. And took our >> Okay. >> The maintenance people seen our car. I said, "Why y'all letting them take my car?" They was like, "It wasn't supposed to take your car." So, they called the company and was like, "Oh, can y'all bring the car back here so we can get our stuff?" And they said no. So I said, "Okay." So they was like, "Well, you can't get your car because it's a rental car people." They didn't want me to get it back. So the rental car people called and was like, "She can get it back." He was like, "She's allowed to get it back." He told me, "Oh no, they said you can only get your stuff out." So I called the rental car people and they said no. He told us that it's their policy and they're not giving nobody back their car but the rental car. I said, "Okay, well I just need my stuff." >> From her story, she also admitted that she had entered the impound lot on her own. Yet she still tried to avoid the fact that she intended to take the car, even beginning to justify why she was facing such accusations. >> Okay. >> So I did go over there. I was pressing the button. So I see that my car. So I tried to get my stuff. >> You're pressing what button? >> The key. >> Okay, okay, okay. >> So to see if the car was even here. >> Yeah. >> So I see the car was there. So I went over there and it was another man's in his where his car. Another man in his car. He was blocking the thing. So I went inside the car and got my bag out. So he came back and was like, "Oh, you moved my car? And cut off my car and then ran and then shut me in the gate." I said, "I was just trying to get my bag." He was like, "Oh no, well you going to go to um you going to go to jail for trespassing and all that other stuff." I said I was just wanting my bag. Now you can keep >> Where were you at? Were you inside already? In the lot? >> Yeah. It was the gate was open. >> Okay, okay. >> So he was like, "Oh, you going to go to jail for trespassing." I said I just need my stuff. And I was like, "I already um talked to the people. They said I can just come and get my stuff." He was like, "No, you got to go um somebody else." Like I guess the office. And I was like, "Well, I tried to talk to somebody." And he told me to get I don't really know what it is. Yeah, but y'all I just want to get my stuff. >> Yeah. >> He was like, "Well, you're not getting nothing really." So they started saying to me again. >> The bag with the the money in there? Okay, okay. >> So he was like, "You're not getting nothing really. So you can put all the stuff back." So I was like, "Well, I just want my bag." He was like, "Well, you got your license and I said, "Yes, in the bag." So, the other man came back and I told him to get the [ __ ] away. He said, "Don't give a [ __ ] Don't give a nothing." So, I said, "Okay, I'm not going to play this game with y'all. Well, I'm just going to go ahead and say you don't have to go So, they start closing me in the gate. So, I missed I didn't miss uh the man that was holding me the gate. >> Okay. >> pulled out a gun and put it in my face and was like, "Get the [ __ ] back." I said, "Some like, why you got this gun in my face?" >> Yeah. >> He was like, "Oh, because you trespassing." I said, "Well, why you got a gun in my face?" >> The woman was charged with battery and burglary. Trying to take matters into your own hands can turn a personal dispute into criminal charges, proving that force and reckless choices only make the consequences worse. Next, the woman's lies collapsed as she was forced to confront the truth. >> You don't want to go anywhere? >> Police. >> Burglary in the first degree. >> The burglary is is is felony? >> Yes. All right, go ahead and face the car for me. >> On the 7th of January, 2024, police were dispatched to Burger King after the manager there discovered that the cashier had been stealing money from the cash register. When approached, the female suspect displayed unusual behavior as if being caught had caused her mental state to become unstable. >> I'm going to talk here. That's fine. You don't want to go anywhere? >> [laughter] >> Police. I'm No. >> Okay. That's fine. Uh who are you on the phone with? >> Oh, my my roommate. >> Your roommate? Okay. Okay. So, our detective is going to come talk to you. This is the advice that I'm going to share with you. This is the second time that Clay's name has come up with counterfeit money. >> Oh [laughter] my god. >> He purchased a a moped from somebody with fake money. >> Am I getting arrested? >> Once you talk to the detective, okay? I'll be honest with you. He's going to be more interested in Clay as far as the money portion of it, but the theft from the Burger King there's not much I can do about that. >> [snorts] >> I'm going to read you your Miranda. >> That means I'm getting arrested. >> No, it just means that at this point you feel like you're getting arrested but you feel like you're getting arrested and I'm questioning you so At this point you're detained, you're not free to leave and I want to question you about the investigation that you have quite a bit of working knowledge of which is the only reason I'm reading you your Miranda. So you're not under arrest. >> The woman blamed a friend of hers claiming that he had given her counterfeit money without her knowing. However, based on earlier comparisons and evidence, the police verified the actual truth. >> Tell me about he he owed you money. He owed you $150. >> He actually owed owed me money for a a bike a bike that he probably got from somebody else without it ever I didn't know where I never I never got the you never got the bike. >> Okay. All right, so he came here. How much did he give you? >> I didn't even count it. It was it was supposed to be a hundred. >> It was supposed to be a hundred. So why would you why would you give him change though if he owed you 150? >> I gave him change for for the food. >> Food? So he gave you a hundred dollars in all fake twenties. And one of those twenties you used to pay for food and gave him change with that. So then you did give him some change for whatever food he ordered or something. Okay. However, you then took you lifted the cash register back up and you took a different set of twenty dollar bills and you then counted those bills and gave it back to him. Yes, you did. >> No. No, I didn't hear >> Yes, you did. >> I didn't count >> Okay. >> I didn't count. I I think I gave back up to him was the change. >> No, you gave him change and then you lifted the drawer back up, grabbed another stack of 20s from the other side of which you put it at. So, it looks like you knew you were putting the fake 20s on one side, taking real 20s out from the other. You counted it and then gave it back to him. >> No, sir. I didn't do that. I didn't do that. I only took I put the money in there and then I took gave him the change for the for the burger. >> All right, that's not what I saw on camera. >> The woman once again denied her actions, but her behavior only further raised suspicion that she was lying. >> So, let's go. I'm just telling you exactly what I saw on the video. It's not adding up to what you're telling me and and the math doesn't add up either because I know how much money and counterfeit bills was >> I did not know that that that money was counterfeit. That's all I'm saying. I did not know that money was counterfeit. >> Right, but it's it's just hard to believe that because like I said, if if he you're saying he owed you $150, he showed up with 100, paid for a burger, you gave him change. If he owed you $150, you would have you would have taken all of that money because he still owes you money at that point. He still owes you 100 and or 30 something dollars. So, if he's here for the purpose of giving you money he owes you, it doesn't make sense that it's ever going to go near the cash register. >> Because I was at the register when when he gave it to me. That's why. >> Yeah, but but you put put in the cash register. The money that he's here to to give you that he supposedly owes you. You know, you put it in the cash register. And then on top of that you gave him money from the cash register from the other side. So, different $20 bills cuz I can see in the camera you put it in on the with your left hand over here. And when you open up, you take it from the right side and you count it and you give it to him. So, if you're telling me what you told me earlier is that you took the $80. Not only did you retrieve fake money from Clay, give back real money, you took $80 on top of all that. >> She used her own panic to avoid answering the police's questions. Shortly after, a detective was called to the scene and the value of the loss was also clarified. >> So, this one transaction that we're talking about where the money came back from the bank, the counterfeit, was how much? >> 180. >> 180. It was how much? >> 180. $180 that was fake. So, and it was definitely the same kind of bills from him cuz they were all the same serial number, same copies of the same $20 bill. So, it wasn't a random event that it was 180. It was 180 coming out of Clay's hands. >> And the problem that we're having, that he's having, is that the transactions on video so we can see what you did as far as putting money in the till and taking the money out and giving, you know, giving it back to him. Doesn't doesn't equal up to the transaction. Okay. But it proves that you're clearly you're involved in with that amount of actual money. Okay. So, what we're trying to do is give you an opportunity to talk to us and be honest with us about what's going on. So, we can focus on what's really going on and who's really behind all this. >> No, you're fine. >> Okay. >> With each detail that was uncovered, the pressure caused the woman's lies to fall apart. At that point, she admitted that she knew it was counterfeit money. >> So, you knew that the money was counterfeit when he gave you >> Not when he gave me >> Well, then why did you take other money in lieu of the money he gave you? >> I didn't know Sorry. I didn't know the money was counterfeit. No, I didn't. >> Well, then why would you swap it over? >> I don't know. >> Cuz you just told me that you you took it cuz he owed it to you, but you didn't take the money he gave you. You took the store's money and you left and then gave them his money. So, that's a transaction right there, a switcheroo that you just basically told me you did. And now you're trying to tell me you didn't know it was counterfeit. Have you been arrested for this type of stuff before? >> No, never. >> Anything? >> Um Am I Have I been arrested >> Have I been arrested >> I'm on pre-trial now. >> For what? >> For um uh possession of ecstasy pills. >> So, drug stuff. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Nothing like this before. >> Counterfeit money. How long have you known Jonathan? >> Like a month. >> A month? >> A year. >> You've known him a year? >> Not even a year, probably >> The woman's actions now appeared conclusive. At that point, the police made a decision regarding the charges she would face. >> All right. We're going to place her under arrest for theft by taking and forgery of the first degree, okay? >> But I didn't know, sorry. >> What? >> What? >> Well, the fact is obvious. We We just went over this, okay? We just explained everything and where we're at and everything, so I'm going to need you to go ahead and step get out of the booth, stand up, turn around, and >> I'm going to call my parents. >> We'll be taking your I'll get your phone. No, no, no, no, no, no. >> I don't know. >> You're fine. You're fine. You're fine. You're fine. >> I don't know what to do. >> You will be fine. >> I don't know what to do. I'm going to call my parents and tell them that I'm going >> No, no, no, no, no. Okay. >> I'm going to call my parents and tell them that I'm going to >> Um once they once they get in the car cuz you're not on probation, so you're going to follow me. >> What are you charging What are you charging me with? >> Uh theft by taking misdemeanor and um forgery in the first degree. >> The forgery is is is felony? >> Yes. All right, go ahead and face the car for me. Separate your feet. >> Please don't do forgery. What is that drug? Is there a way for me not to have to go? >> You got to talk to your lawyer and what not about it. Hold on, I got to do this. Pat you down. You got nothing in your pockets. >> [laughter] >> Oh, man. Oh, no. >> The woman was formally charged with theft by taking in first-degree forgery for her involvement in handling and redistributing counterfeit money. [music] Trying to shift blame onto others does not erase personal responsibility, especially when evidence contradicts the explanation. Inconsistent statements and evasive behavior only strengthen suspicion and can escalate a situation from a simple dispute into criminal charges. What do you think about cases like this? Even worse, the next individuals also could not handle the pressure of their own actions. >> 25, so threshold 300. All right, so throw away your weed. >> On May 24th, [music] 2025, police received a report from Dollar General about a woman committing theft at the store. Upon arrival, she attempted to flee on an electric scooter, but she was quickly apprehended and brought back. Here's what happened during the incident. >> Yep. >> Okay. Do you guys have an ID on you? >> [laughter] >> Is there a problem with me? Well, I need the whole bag and everything. >> Okay, I got to go. Do you want me to go? >> Just Why don't you just leave that? Why don't you just go on in and have a seat with that? I'll grab this. And then, do you have an ID, ma'am? >> I don't know if I'm doing all right. I don't think I have my ID. >> Can you pull out what you have in your Hold on a minute. Do you have anything in your pocket? Or do you want somebody to come search you? So, if you have anything else in your pocket Yep. >> But, if you can grab the chicken and the lighters >> Okay, so you just put them right here. >> Yeah. >> It can be seen that the woman had hidden all the items, including snacks, in her bag. The scooter with the basket was merely a means to move faster. However, everything was so obvious that the bag was soon confirmed not to belong to her. >> The bag is from here. The basket and the bag is from here, also. Is the bag that it was in? >> It is mine. >> It's yours? >> So, I don't have any validation to that, but she says it's hers. >> All right, that is fine. >> That's why I just started laughing because we used to call them and we used to run and [ __ ] like that. >> Right. >> Yeah. >> Your first case is it like it was just for me to touch that page or like >> So, that's not >> She said it's hers. >> Oh, it is? >> I mean, cuz if we would have gotten this the first time it would have broke. >> Here's the whole living room, man. >> There's two bags. They're not from here? Two matching bags that she >> Dude, if she comes in with the blankets, I can't verify the bags. That's the only thing. >> Okay. >> So. And then the next page is the serial number. I mean, this is the wrong one. >> Oh, yeah. I'm just going to try to pull all this stuff out and then maybe shove it right back into it. I guess I can just leave it. >> The amount of stolen goods was so large that the police spent a significant amount of time recovering them. Returning to the suspect, she appeared deeply remorseful and her accomplice confessed the purpose behind their actions. >> We're homeless, bro. >> Yeah, so our stuff is in the car. >> Yeah. So, I got some stuff that we like take it to the pawn shop or either like work for the video game store and they give us [snorts] money. Give us some stuff. >> I'm just trying to gather items and then pawn it all. >> Yeah, cuz we're homeless, man. >> Okay. Have you guys been caught doing this before? >> Yes. >> At Walmart or another locations? When was the last time that you guys have done this? >> 2 years ago. >> 2 years ago? >> Like I got my record clean. >> Yeah. Do you have a nationwide ban on Walmart? >> Um I was told I couldn't be here cuz they had a personally banned us. I had talked to security. And they said that their Walmart was separate than the other Walmart. >> Okay. I'll have to double check on that, but our system shows that you have a nationwide ban on Walmart. Okay. Well, both of those are just per you have one that has to be served, which just got served to you. >> Oh. Cuz I if I known that I wouldn't have even came here. But I was told >> The total >> This Walmart was different and they had a ban due to I can't I don't know the guy's name. He's real tall. He works security here. >> Was it some of the bread, though? >> It turned out this was not their first time. Shortly afterward, the total value of the items they had taken was determined. >> That's our dress right? >> I really got Stop being so >> Okay. What what? Huh? >> I have pictures. So, can I have you sit down real quick? Take your [snorts] hat off, please. Thank you. >> 585 Take your hat off. >> You don't have to stand up. Just get one more thing. >> you going to do with those both of them? Subtotal is 585. So, dress was 300. All right. So, I'll throw We'll find them out. >> Right now? >> Right now, uh we'll call my supervisor on whether what we're going to do. All right. >> Is there any way that that can be taken off? >> I mean I mean I mean I can I want to see where you're coming from, but >> It should be noted that they had even been trespassed from the store, yet they still attempted to enter and commit the illegal act. At this point, it was puzzling to see the woman unable to cope with the pressure of her own actions. >> So, right now what we're finding out is if one can we issue notice to appear where basically you just go to the police department and um get photographs, fingerprints there, and release you with a court date, or is it something that you have to go to to jail and then you would stay there until you saw a judge. I'd say fortunate for you guys if you do go to jail Saturday. So, there's there's court there's holiday court tomorrow because of the holiday on Monday. So, at best you could sit there or worst case you could sit there till tomorrow tomorrow morning. So. So, now If you're not there how do you make amends? >> Yeah. >> All right, you want to just uh >> You might be put You want to just put your hands behind your back, okay? >> All right. >> No, but I'm going to get a lawyer, okay? >> Just put your hands behind your back, okay? >> Hey, hey, don't give up, baby. Just I mean we got to talk, okay? You got to do this anymore. Don't give up on me, man. Please, don't give up on my name, okay? They didn't give up on >> You guys will get phone calls once you get there. >> I can't call her just going to text her real quick. >> No, once you get there you'll get phone calls on their their pay they have a phone there. I don't believe you guys you don't have to. You're allowed but let this be the bottom, right? Get to the bottom before you go back up, right? So, let this be the bottom and then everything you got to make better decisions, right? And I get I say that from >> I I see yeah, I got it. >> It's easier said than done, I get that, but we just encourage you to tell us now otherwise >> I can't answer you unless there's everything out there. >> If there was anything illegal or something like that and you were to take it into the jail, that's additional time. >> The woman and her accomplice were charged with theft, and the woman additionally faced a probation violation for her prior offenses. Repeatedly ignoring legal boundaries, even under the guise of necessity, only leads to more serious consequences and legal trouble. >> I can drive here. >> So. Unfortunately, no. There's something >> Any time you don't live in Florida. >> Tegan, does it like go in the newspaper and stuff? >> It goes online. >> On the 13th of July, 2025, police received a call from a retail store reporting a woman engaged in shoplifting while she was shopping with her family. This was what unfolded when officers arrived at the scene. >> Well, hello. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Hello. How are you? >> Tired. >> Tired? >> It's 2:00 in the morning. >> Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. All right. So, these are the items that she concealed in her purse. We watched her select everything and put everything into that purse. Um, is this your >> Is this my ID? >> No, that isn't my bag. >> I put [laughter] this up there. >> Yeah. >> Um, so they've been really cooperative. I thought that she was a minor at first, that's why the family's in here, otherwise they would have stayed out. Um, but yeah, they've been really really cooperative. She's 18. >> Yep. >> Yep, just turned 18. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> I'll let you talk to her. Um, my printer is broken, so I've got to write that affidavit, I'm sorry. >> It's okay. >> Yeah. >> Trying to find the document. >> Sure. 324 >> Yeah. >> I did like 324 Lake 65 South Carolina deal. >> The woman standing there appeared to be the primary suspect in the incident and she was acting unusually cheerful as if nothing serious had happened which led officers to question whether she had any prior criminal history. >> Has she ever been in trouble before? >> No. >> No, she almost got kicked out of our house by her step dad for getting a speeding ticket. >> Okay. >> She has been >> Do y'all live here in Florida now or >> my parents. We're supposed to leave tonight. I'm going to be meeting my mom for like a early dinner. >> All right. So, she's 18. This is family. They live in South Carolina. Leaving tonight to go back to South Carolina. She just turned 18. Mom, correct? >> Yes. >> All right. So, what What happened? >> I don't know. I was just being really dumb. I'm so sorry. >> Okay. >> Yeah, everything she asked for, put it in the buggy. Like we were just trying to get out of my parents' house for a little bit cuz it's 75°. And they're like, "It's 75° in here. Let's go to the store. Let's get it. Get it. Get it. Get Get what you want." >> Okay. So, you can see what all's in your purse there? >> Yes, sir. I I can look in my purse. I don't mind. >> I'm going to. I'm going to search you, too, so. >> She eventually admitted to her foolish actions, but she did not appear to feel any remorse. >> And at that point, the officers decided to detain her. Turn around. Put >> Am I getting arrested? >> I've detained you. >> Oh, okay. >> You have tiny wrists. >> I would like 324 like I have the mall detained. All right. You want to have a seat here, ma'am? >> Am I getting my license back? >> So, here's the thing. You're not a resident of Florida. So, I can't issue her a notice to appear because you live out of state. So, she has to go to jail for it. >> Can I drive here? I can drive down to the court. >> Unfortunately, no. There's no way to >> Anytime you don't live in Florida, you have to go to jail for the offense because our notice to appear is for like if you were a resident here, it'd be different. Then if you don't have any criminal history, we could just >> appear in Jacksonville, I couldn't give you one of those court dates. >> Yeah, you have to live >> Can we use like my grandma's address and he I'll drive down to the >> The young woman seemed to realize the seriousness and showed some remorse, but she was more worried about her reputation asking to drive herself instead of being handcuffed. Officers then explained to her parents the option of bonding her out. >> hires, it's going to just be a misdemeanor offense. So, I think it's a $500 bond. If you use a bondsman, you just pay I think the minimum's $100. So, it'd be $100. So, you could go literally right up there she can post her bond and she'll be right back out. But, she is going to have a court date. She's going to have to come back for court. Um the whole deal. So, um you know, if she was still a juvenile, it would have been honestly the same scenario because you don't have to >> does she stay in if I don't come bail her out? >> Until she bonds out. >> out or her time served 30 days, 45 days. >> 45 days. >> So, >> Yeah. We need to let our service know that I can't just run my business with my brothers and my family. She did something so freaking stupid. >> I mean, she has family here and they want to bond her out and pick her up, but You're under 21 in the state of Florida. You also cannot >> That's That's not mine. That's my mom's. >> Okay, it's in your possession. So, I'm just telling you >> Yes, ma'am. >> You can't have that in the state of Florida till you're 21. Okay? So, it'll go to your mom, but >> Her concern for her reputation over her wrongdoing became even clearer when she was placed in the patrol car, showing no visible remorse for her actions. >> Oh, my god. I feel so bad. Oh, I'm actually going to jail. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. I'm going to leave my whole life. Whenever you get your mug shot taken, does it like go in the newspaper and stuff? >> It goes online. >> Okay. So, the only reason I did get arrested is just because I'm not a resident of Florida. >> can be arrested regardless, but we try to work with people when they have no prior criminal history. You know, you don't have any previous stuff. If you have two previous stuff, then you have to go to jail instead. Um >> [snorts] >> but since you had no priors and you were a resident here, then I probably just would have given you a court date and you could have left. It's still considered an arrest, but it's considered a non-custodial arrest. We're not actually taking you to jail. But, since you're not a resident, and the reasoning is a lot of people who live out of state, if I give you that notice to appear in the court date and let you leave, >> In the end, she was charged with theft. The case shows that a moment of poor judgment and lack of responsibility can quickly escalate into legal consequences, turning a simple mistake into a criminal record. Next, looking at these men and their scams that go back to the 1980s. >> It's a felony today. It's called organized scheme to defraud. >> I got to tow the vehicle? >> I got to drive this car though. >> [music] >> On December 29th, 2022, the police received a report from a local Costco about an ongoing scam. The suspects were two men selling fake speakers in the parking lot, and one of them was attempting to flee, but was quickly stopped. Here's what happened after the police approached the suspect. >> Stop the car. Step out. Sit down. Listen, sit down right there. Sit right there. >> Can I sit? >> I'm cooperating. >> Sit. >> Okay, then cooperate. Sit. >> Sit down right here? >> Yeah, sit right there. >> ground? >> Yeah, yeah. Sit right here. Just walk over to the back of your guys' car. All right, go. Walk. Walk. >> Did Did I do anything wrong? >> Listen, bro. If I got to tell you again, you have a problem. Okay? Just hang out right here. Do you have a license on you? >> Uh no, I don't. >> Car 10, I'm 10-20. I'm 48. I'm out with the two males right in front of Costco. 10-50. >> Is there a Is there an issue here? Like what's up? >> Yeah, there's an issue. What happened? You can't do that here. >> What? >> sell stuff. >> Yeah, yeah. Especially stuff like this. My boss told me that I could, so >> Yeah, no he didn't, bro. >> Listen, no he really did. >> I've done this a long time. I've stopped this car four times. >> This car? >> Yeah, the same exact car four times. >> guy? The >> Yeah, I arrested him last week in the same car. >> He's uh he's actually uh he's been talking to us. He said he's Yeah, he's Um why why did you arrest him though? >> Cuz he had drugs on him. >> Oh, well Yeah, I just do this work. I don't I don't carry drugs like that. I mean, I might have a little marijuana, but but I got a license for it, so there's nothing >> Doesn't matter. You can't drive and smoke when you're driving. >> Okay, you're right. >> It became clear that the vehicle itself was connected to multiple incidents. At this point, the officers openly shared their suspicions with them. >> It's illegal to do that. It's a felony to do that. It's called organized scheme to defraud. >> Are you going to tow the vehicle? How am I going to get home? Cuz we're from Broward. >> Huh? >> I don't know. We're from Sunrise. >> Yeah, you know where we're at, huh? I mean, so you really have pulled me pulled pulled my boy over. He's actually our manager. >> But I told him clearly >> No, I got to tell him over here. No. >> I told your boss. >> Yeah, honestly, they they didn't I didn't hear anything about it, but whatever it is, I'm cooperative, you know. Please don't tow the vehicle, man. I got to get back to I got to get back to the warehouse. I Anything you want to do, I'll cooperate, dude. >> all talk exactly the same? >> Really? >> Yeah. >> Well, we uh >> Like that like that. Kind of savvy like almost salesman type of talk. >> I don't want to I don't want to come off savvy. I'm sorry. >> That's what you're trying to do. >> [music] >> Well, how about this? I'll just come off as a regular civilian. Uh it's just we just we talk to people all day, so it's like kind of like what we do. We just talk to people all day. And uh give them really good deals. >> No, really good deals, nothing, bro. Stop it, bro. I know what the I know what the scam, bro. They're They're full of concrete. What you talking about really good deals? >> He's He's >> Stop. Stop. Stop. I don't want to hear that. I don't want to hear that. >> The man did not deny anything the officer said. Shortly after, he even spoke about the illicit work he was doing, showing not a shred of remorse. >> Fraud scams. >> Huh? >> Fraud scams. >> Well, you know what's crazy? When I started this job, I really didn't know that it was like that until like 4 or 5 weeks later. Then I found out. >> Stop, bro. >> No, seriously, I'm I'm not lying to you. >> You thought that it was legitimately >> speakers out of a out of a >> Until somebody texted me >> is >> Until somebody texted me >> business. >> Until somebody texted me back and told me that driving through parking lots trying to sell people speakers >> is not a legitimate business. What are you saying? >> No, I'm not. >> Nobody believes that, no one. >> Honestly, I apologize, man. >> No one believes that. Where did you go to school, bro? >> Uh I'm from North Carolina. >> Oh, okay. So, I went to Brevard, North Carolina Brevard High School. >> I apologize, man. >> Man, I'm really embarrassed. Everybody's looking at us. I'm really embarrassed, all right? >> You're scamming people. You should be embarrassed. >> Could I contact my boss and just tell him that I'm getting >> No. No. No. No. That's what we did the last time. I talked to him over the phone and I told him don't come back up to Palm Beach Gardens. Don't send your people up to Palm Beach Gardens. It's going to be the same result every >> Huh? >> All right. Jail. >> Jail? >> Charges. >> So, finally, bro. Do you not understand the first time I said it? >> 15-36. There's a There's a statute in Florida that's called organized scheme to defraud. Right? That means when you set up a scheme to take money under fraudulent pretense. >> Mhm. >> Right? And selling speakers out of a van that are that are fake speakers that are made out of full of concrete falls right under that category of fraudulent pretense. >> The man's scheme was gradually exposed by the officers and under their pressure, he began to plead. >> I'm not, bro. After this, I'm never coming back here. You know? I'm never coming back here. I'll stay out of your city. I promise you. >> Hey, that the last guy the last guy he's he's in jail. How's he supposed to let us know about it? >> I talked to the boss over the phone. >> That's what I'm saying. >> I talked to the boss over the phone and I told him every time they come up here, they going to go to jail. Every time they going to go to jail. I don't have drugs >> I arrested that guy twice. >> I don't have >> You ain't got no drugs in there? >> Hell no, I don't. >> You got no other drugs in there besides that weed? >> Bro, I don't do drugs like that. >> Look, don't I look like a stoner? I don't mean nothing, bro. >> Well, I don't do drugs like that. >> Everybody knows people People down south they do pills, bro. >> I don't do drugs like that. >> Okay. >> A striking detail is that the man had a legal license to sell cannabis, yet he did not have a driver's license and was found to still be serving a sentence from a prior offense, something the officers also pointed out. >> Now, probation, driving, you don't have a license, you'll be >> VOP? >> VOP. >> [ __ ] >> Violation, you said? >> Probation. >> Because of what? >> Driving with no license. >> I'm on probation. >> Well, wasn't he driving? >> Driving. Oh, you're driving. Yeah. Violation of probation. >> So, that means that I got to go sit in jail now? >> But, wait, what do I do then? It's my first day. >> This happened last time. Dude's first day and y'all showing him the wrong way. You just have to find a ride. >> I live in Hialeah, man. >> You live in Hialeah? >> Yeah. Y'all can't take me? >> Absolutely, we're definitely not doing that. >> How bad >> But, you're far away. >> I don't know where I live. I don't know where I live. I don't know where I live. >> Yeah, we we way too far away from that. >> Hopefully I'll get bonded out. Wait, if it's VOP, I probably can't get bonded out, right? >> See if you can actually make that time. >> Shortly after, the products involved in his scam were confiscated. >> What? >> I don't know, bro. >> I didn't even know I was supposed to ride this car, though. The what? What's the question? You don't know where to take the car? >> No, no. Like, can you get the number the boss number from his phone so I can call him to get me a Uber or something? >> I'm going to let you drive this car. How's that sound? >> isn't that illegal? >> You have a license? >> I had a license, but I'm saying like isn't this car like >> Go home. >> Go home. >> I'm going to >> Go back to the place, bro. >> Go straight up. >> I'm going to go back to the place? >> Go straight. >> No, but you got to believe me. This is my first day, right? >> I believe you. I believe you cuz the last couple times there's always that one guy who's brand new. That's how they do. They got one guy who's experienced and the other guy trains the other guy. But don't do this type of [ __ ] cuz you can get yourself caught up. >> You know, they called me yesterday randomly, man. >> worth it, bro. But you should you know better than that, dog. You know better than that, bro. >> I'm going to be real honest, man. I really believe you. Come on, man. >> So, these both his phones? >> That's my vehicle. >> I'm not taking you back. I ain't in this stress. >> Here's your key. Let me make sure you don't got nothing else. >> In the end, only the man wearing the hat was temporarily arrested due to his probation violation and both were charged with organized fraud. Trying to exploit others through scams carry serious consequences. Even if someone believes they are clever or protected, authorities will uncover the deception and prior legal issues can worsen the outcome.
