Can you please do this? Can I please just get the citation? >> Okay, that's that point. So, if you want to call someone, >> can you please give me another chance? I would pay for the >> No, we gave you a chance. >> Like I said, I don't have nothing in none of my pockets. >> We will be the judge of that. >> Like I said, I don't have nothing in none of my pockets. >> What? >> You're under arrest. >> For what? >> For what? >> What am I? >> For stealing. >> Stealing what? What did I steal? >> Sucking. >> I never stole anything. camera 2024. >> Some shoplifterss think they are smart when they pretend to be innocent through arrogance or calculated behavior. But to officers, it only looks foolish and can add more charges against them. Here are the times when dumb shoplifterss think they don't need to pay. Beginning with this mother, her lies would come back to haunt her. >> Don't do this to me, please. I had nobody to get my baby. Please, I won't pay for I do I will do anything I have to do. that >> in September 2025, officers were dispatched to Target after store staff detained a woman suspected of stealing merchandise with her child. But the situation did not end there as questions quickly arose about the information she provided. Here's what happened next. >> Hey Jerome, I got the other stuff. Take a seat. Ma'am, you're going to be trespassed for a year, 365 days. You come back, you will be arrested. Do you understand? >> They just don't want you back in here. >> That's all that's all it is. You come back here, you will be arrested. If you do it anywhere else, you will be arrested as well as the other. >> Why is Why is on your ID here? Why is this Williams highlighted? What was your last name before that? So, is this your ID? Why does it Why does the first letter start with a P? >> It's Phillips. Williams Phillips is my last name. >> What's What's the address you live on? >> Yeah. What's What's the address? How long have you been there for? >> About a year and a half. >> 435. I tried Phillips Williams. Williams Phillips checked in house. I'm not finding anything. So, are you going to give me your real name then? >> That's my real name. My name is Nicole. >> No, because this number one, it shouldn't look like this. So, Williams is highlighted. Hold on. Hold on. I'm just going to tell you something. >> This should never be highlighted. That's never highlighted like that. All right. And then if your name was if your name was Williams Phillip >> Mhm. >> that P would be a W, not a P. >> Let me show you. This is your actual ID on you. >> This is how I typed it up. when you type it in in a in a photos because I when I try to go to my ID, it's like I don't know exactly. >> So that's why it's highlighted. >> Let me show them. >> And I go to all my photos and then I go to ID. >> But if your name's Williams Phillips, Williams Phillips is your last name. That P would start with the W. >> My my original last name is Phillips, but I'm married, so it's Williams, too. >> Did you ever change that on your ID? >> No. The woman insisted that the name she had previously given the officer was her real name. But as the officer questioned her further, it became clear that she had another name on record as well. >> Um, I have to take a photo of you target purposes only. I don't share this information with anyone. It just says in our system. Okay. >> Thank you. >> Nothing in your wallet [crying] that has anything with your name on it. >> Is that right there? >> And then I can >> in the wallet. It's just like >> Oh, it looked like something. What about on the other side? What was that? >> That's my veteran car. >> You just pull those out. What names are on those cards? >> You guys see the cards? So, who's Destin? [screaming] Is that you? >> Is that you? >> Okay. >> Hello. I think I got a real ID right now. [screaming] >> Yeah, I think I got There's another one in there. So your destiny, Phillips, [crying] do you have anyone that can help get this baby? >> No, I'm sorry. >> Well, you give ID. >> Please don't do this. Please, I don't have nobody. Please, please, can y'all not do this to me? Please don't. >> The mother immediately brought her family into the conversation, seemingly trying to gain the officer's sympathy by portraying herself as helpless. She continued adding personal circumstances to justify her actions. >> Nothing. So when I MOVED [screaming] BACK TO UP HERE WITH my family, I changed my name back to the original name that I had. Please don't do this to me. Please, I have nobody to get my baby. I DON'T HAVE NOBODY TO GET HER. >> SORRY. >> I can't call your grandma. >> No, my my grandma is in a hospital. I can call my grandma, but she's in a hospital right now. find someone else to get the baby or she's got to come back to the PD with us, too. >> Sorry. I'm sorry. This is my real ID. >> But this is my real ID, too. This is just the old one. That's the only one I had. >> It's not adding up. >> I'm sorry. What else do you need from me? >> Well, we got your name now. >> But I don't I don't need from you originally. >> I'm I'm an adopted child. I don't have nobody. >> Like, like I said, she's the baby's going to have to come back to PD with us, too. >> Can you please not do this? Can I please just get mad? We're past that point. So, if you want to call someone, tell [screaming] the lady or if not, she's got to come with us. >> No, please don't do this. We're not doing anything. >> It's important to remember that she had already put herself in this situation by committing retail theft. She had multiple chances to be honest with the officers. Yet, she still provided a false name, making it much harder for them to show her any leniency. >> This would have been this would have been fine if you would have g Why did you give us a fake name? NO, THAT'S NOT MY FAKE NAME. THAT'S MY REAL NAME, SIR. I was adopted. >> Change your first name when you get >> No, you gave me one that had a last name. >> Yeah, but this is I was married before. >> Okay. The address the the date of birth isn't even the same. >> This is my old ID, sir. >> The date of birth on this one's 9104. >> This is my real That's my real name when I got adopted. >> Yeah, but that's not you. >> This is me. This is a picture. >> But that's not you. [screaming] >> The date of births are different. >> Sorry. >> Yeah. 910. This is 77. That's your birthday. >> Yeah, my birthday. >> So that's the wrong ID. You gave us the wrong name. >> Okay. I'm sorry. >> And you said your name was Nicole. Your name's Destiny. >> My name is Nicole, too. But that is my old name. My name is Destiny. >> You're going to come with us cuz you gave us a fake name. >> Sorry. >> And you committed retail theft. Okay. >> Can you please give me another chance? I would pay for the >> We gave you a chance. >> We gave you a chance when we asked you five different times what the whose ideas I say is what's this? What's that? You >> and I can. The officer pointed out several inconsistencies between the two IDs. If she had only changed her name, why was the date of birth different? She still tried to convince the officer, but to no avail. >> Me, Destiny Phillips. That's the other show. >> You said that's not me. [screaming and crying] >> That's not Yeah, that's not the one you showed me. >> That's the one I showed you. That's me. This is me, too. >> It's not. >> Sir, look at this one. Look, >> I don't have to look at the date of birth. >> Look at the date of birth. >> Yeah, that's not the one you showed me. That was the one you showed me. We wouldn't be in this. >> So, you're going to come with us. You're going to get a few tickets and then you're going to be out. >> You have my name down. >> We do now. After you we asked you times for and you gave us the wrong one to you >> after we had to find it out ourselves. We had to find it out ourselves. >> Sorry. Please. I won't pay. I'm going to do anything I have to do. >> We're past that. We're past that. You already did it. You walked past the pound. [crying] >> Stop. Relax. You're coming back with us. >> Why can't you? >> Okay, that's fine. So, you're going to jail. You're coming back with us. >> I have to [screaming] drop our money. >> Okay, that's fine. But [crying] you have to take care of this now because you wanted not give us the [laughter] right. >> I'm sorry. We can >> No, you're not giving the citation. You're coming with us [screaming and crying] cuz you gave us the wrong information, the wrong name, the wrong ID, and you committed retail theft. So, that's two comps. Nope. You come with us. >> Can you give me one last chance? >> No, we've given you enough chances. We're past that. No, we're past that. So, you can take your baby with us, and we're going to the station. You're coming with us. You're coming with us. Let's go. You can walk out. I'm not going to. >> In the end, Destiny Phillips was charged with retail theft and obstruction of identification. Lying to officers only made the situation worse. When the truth is already being uncovered, adding more false information can turn a theft investigation into additional legal trouble. Next, this supervisor even gets caught stealing $369k dollar from the mail. >> Curiosity, things of that nature, where I get stuff in the car. What do you do? What? What is it? I'm confused. But when he said that it's a stack of checks and what do you mean? What are they doing with it? >> On the 31st of October 2023, police repossessed a Nissan Juke after it was linked to an expired insurance policy. But things quickly got worse when officers found a gun inside the vehicle along with suspicious black bags. When approached, the driver still had no idea what the officers had discovered. >> So that was your 2015 Jeep. >> All right. Do you have your ID on you? >> 2124 to Revo3. She's still in the building. Trying to find some place a little more contact. >> Yeah. Well, just um oddities and curiosity, things of that nature, whatever stuff. >> Once they were settled in the interview room, the officer directly asked about the presence of the gun. >> All right. Um whose gun or whose backpack was it that was in your car with that rifle? >> Well, technically I'm not sure whose it is cuz I'm not the only one that drove the car. >> Okay. And I haven't drove the car since what's today? Sunday when I got off work. >> Okay. >> In the house. >> So the kids typically drive the car. They may have had something. >> Um >> they said something wrong with the >> some stuff in there that kind of piqu my interest. Some oddities and things of that nature. So that's why got to ask. >> So there was a gun in the car. >> Okay. >> A loaded AR. But is it legal? >> It's not stolen. >> Oh, well I'm saying >> but I can't give it to you cuz you didn't know about it cuz you already told me that. >> Okay. >> So, but >> but I'm confused what they're doing because I thought the you have >> you can't see. >> Okay. >> They found that they found some bottles of prescription stuff which I still trying to I'm still in the beginning part of figuring out what the heck's going on. prescription. >> I'm going to leave it at that. >> From the gun to the suspicious bottles of medication found inside the vehicle. That wasn't all officers discovered. They also found a large stack of checks bearing different people's names. Now, let's see how she tried to explain that. >> And I'm not joking. It's a stack this big of checks with other people's names on it. >> Okay. >> Uh I'm seizing all that stuff. >> Okay. I am very very curious and would like to find out and know who um was the one yelling about the items in the car and things like that when cuz they called off of your phone number. I called from my phone. Okay. And I was yelling about getting my things out the car. Okay. >> Because I was looking for my um work ID as well as my I have a um tag that hangs in the car when I go to work because it had to be hang hung on the uh >> the rearview mirror in order for me to park where I'm supposed to park. So yes, I needed my things out of the car. >> Okay. So yeah, like I said, so that's where when I say I've got concerns and things I need to look into further, I'll be honest with you, that's where I'm at. >> Okay. >> Um, so it is I do need to go through and we're going to wind up investigating it further. >> Okay. >> Um, it's a thing where items are found in St. Charles County or St. Char city, but you live in cuz they seized the car or repo the car brought back here, >> right? >> Uh, but you live in what? Florescent. >> No, Norman. >> Oh, you live in Illinois. >> So, yeah. I don't even know if you know what I mean. I I got to figure out where these checks were stolen from. Okay. >> Things like that. >> Okay. >> Cuz there's no way you got 200 different people's names on a check and something's not screwed. I mean, you can verify why though. We don't touch. We can't touch them at all. So, >> all right. >> The female driver kept trying to shift the blame onto the other people who had used the car, prompting officers to dig deeper and find out who they were. >> How many different people drive this car? >> Uh, my oldest daughter and sometimes my stepsons may drive it. My friends >> 7303. I'll be out on >> Okay. eventually. >> I don't know if they did maybe robber, but I know that I had recently gotten a ticket and had to go to court and the charges and I was just like it wasn't >> 2123. >> Go ahead. >> The charges what they were saying happened. He said >> 2123 >> actually I shouldn't let people drive the car but it was around the time that I was at work. >> Here's what I And what I'm going to tell you is what I'm going to do, right? I'm not necessarily looking for them. I mean, I'm going to put them in my computer and I'm going to do a links analysis and look to see who they're hanging out with. >> Okay. >> I'm trying to figure out who's doing the check stuff. The check stuff is the big for me. Okay. >> What What is it? I'm confused though when you said that it's a stack of checks and what do you mean? What are they doing with the checks? >> Well, that's still what I'm trying to figure out. All >> right. So, you really don't know. >> I haven't left here yet. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, I haven't had a chance to go start trying to contact the people whose checks they are. >> Okay. >> Find out if there's been any fraudulent checks written based off of those bank accounts. I haven't been able to figure any of this out yet. >> Okay. >> You you come in kind of put the carpet before the horse. >> You know what I mean? >> Clearly, the details found inside the car showed that this was no coincidence. The investigation quickly revealed 89 stolen checks linked to dozens of victims with more than $369,000 in losses. To make matters worse, the officer also confirmed that the driver, Bonita D. Randall, had an active felony warrant. >> It's a felony warrant right now. >> So me, >> yeah, >> what I'm going to tell you. So here's I had to confirm it, right? So, if they say they're going to drive out here, which they will drive to here, I'm not putting handcuffs on you and I'm not doing any of that. All right? But if they're willing to drive here, then you're going to have to stay with me for a little bit until I get here. >> What if they have a letter from me for >> yet? You have to ask the parabel. I don't know their investigation. >> It is. >> I don't either. So anyway, so I you being open and honest with you, okay? So, but that's I'm just waiting right now for them to say yes or no. >> In the end, Bonita D. Randall was charged with theft of mail by a postal service employee. Theft involving someone's position of trust can turn a routine situation into a federal case, especially when the evidence directly contradicts repeated denials. Even worse, this canvite cops after massive card swiping scam fails. >> For what? >> What do I what I'm being charged for? They said, "I'm being charged also for >> On the 30th of March 2024, officers received a report from a Chuck-e-Cheese location about a female suspect who had fled after stealing a credit card." Officers quickly approached her while she was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot, but it seemed she was not willing to admit anything. >> Why am I stepping up? >> Step out, please. >> What? >> You're under arrest. >> For what? >> For what? >> Okay. Okay, LET ME HELP YOU. >> OKAY, let me let me get MY What the What THE [ __ ] on the ground. She been with me the whole time. [clears throat] I got it. I got >> I got it. I got it. Get on the ground. >> What am I going to jail for? Why are we under resistance? >> Hello. got to investigate. >> What am I going to jail for? >> From her denial to her refusal to cooperate, her actions could lead to a resisting charge. Under Florida law, that was classified as a first-degree misdemeanor, and she could face up to one year in jail, up to one year of probation, and a fine of up to $1,000. But the charges against her did not stop there. >> I'm going to jail for stealing. >> How old are you? >> You are, too. Yeah, >> I can. Theft of mislaid property and then you're going to also get charged with deceptive practice because you're in the car. No one's using the card over there. You're on camera. >> I've never used the card. real quick. You know where his phone? >> Where are you working on it? It's not for anything. >> Hey, >> no, man. We got pulled over by the police, man. I got I got my son. You know, I got my son with you. I I'm going to um have him to come. He going to come hold drop him off to you and then um I'mma call you, man. I'm good, though. I'mma call you. >> He can't come get him. >> Hey, you can't >> Could you Could you come get him? Look, I'm right here off the street. I I got my room. I got my room, too. But [ __ ] But you could just hold him. I need you to hold him, man. It's urgent. >> I'm at Sherman. >> I'm right here at Sherman. I'm right here at Sherman. Sherman lifted right here. >> Across the street. >> Across street. right here by the um this a store on the plaza. >> Yeah. >> I need you to come right now. Right now. >> Not guilty. You know what I mean? >> So, I'm going to put you in the back of your car. >> Huh? >> What happened? >> I'll let them explain to you. >> The man was determined to have no connection to the earlier theft, but he still had to face charges for driving with a suspended license. The officers then explained everything to him. Okay, we're going to mom out of here with the ticket cuz the driving suspended. We're going to give him his tools and stuff back so you don't have to worry about >> So then then how long my stuff going to be in the home? >> That's up to you. I mean, honestly, with these charges and the no cash bail, I honestly think you guys are going to go out there and walk right back out. >> All right. >> I mean, it's Do you have any record right now or you have >> I don't got no I don't got no probation, no parole, no nothing. No bond. If >> you don't have any risk of flight, they're probably just going to say, "Okay, here's your court date. See you later." We're at the station or maybe No, you have to cuz technically the court you're going to is county for city. So you have to go through the county process. >> So today Saturday. >> Yeah. >> So how long I'm going to be in there? >> Like you said there's no cash bail anymore. So if your charges meet the criteria and you don't have any risk factors on preventing you from going to court, they'll honestly just probably give you a court date and see her too. >> Yeah. >> Or would I be able to get >> it? All depends on your past criminal history. If you got ongoing cases, you're on probation, parole, you have a bunch of misc court dates, that type of stuff. >> No, I don't got none of that. Yeah. So, uh, it'll prove you no risk. And again, this isn't a bodily harm crime, so I don't see him keeping you. >> They do. I'll be shot. >> What about her? >> Same thing. I mean, resisting, they don't really care about. >> So, we just got to go in that guy name. We got to go fingerprint booking. Get the mug shot. Fingerprints. They'll get you. >> Returning to the female suspect, she was allowed to call her mother to inform her about what had happened. >> That's mom. >> I'm in a police car. I'm going to jail. But um what am I charging? >> Theft of mislaid property and deceptive practice and resisting arresting. Uh what else? >> Theft of mislaid property. >> Theft of mislaid property. >> What else? And then deceptive practice. >> Deceptive practice. >> And resisting arrest. Oh, no. And I don't get a bite. >> No. Would you like me to talk to her? I'll tell you tell everything's going to happen. >> How old are you? >> This is so special. Well, they said that they're saying taking a while from Chuck-E-Cheese. That's basically what I'm being charged for. But they said I'm being charged also for swiping a card, but I never swipe the card, but they said I knew what was going on. So man, man, his son Mom, what happened? >> What happened? I think a Hold on. Yeah, I think like a AC. Let me um Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm being arrested, so I'm going to call you when I go to jail. >> Okay. >> Can I make one more call? >> I'm talking right now. >> All right. He's going to talk to you real quick. Okay. >> What stood out was that even while calling her family, she showed no urgency to have someone come pick up the young family member who had to witness everything unfold. The officer eventually had to step in and bring up the issue himself so someone could come and pick him up. >> Yes, sir. >> So, I talked to you've had your son since yesterday. >> Yeah. >> So, what's she going to do? >> Well, she's not happy. >> Yeah, I know she's talking about >> Yeah, but I mean, you need to make things right. And honestly, I mean, out of this whole deal, looking at yourself, I would probably be most upset at that. Putting your kid through this. All right. One, he's not in a booster seat. Okay. We're not going to hit Tom with the unrestrained child cuz that's your responsibility. All right. When your kid's in a car, you get in a bad accident, which we see all the time around here, especially intersections like this. I mean, your kid gets hit. Not he doesn't have much chance. All right. Out of the booster seat at his side. So, I'd be most upset at myself with just the kid. You took him to Chuck-E-Cheese. You're trying to do something good and then it all got changed. All right. Don't let that stuff, you know, now it's going to really hurt your relationship with the mother, your child. >> And I hope you can figure it out. But yeah, just be smarter about that when you got your kid. But when you're doing it by yourself, that's one thing. But I mean, now he's got to see all this and depending how old he is, you never know. He might remember this forever. So just think about that, man. So we don't want to be put in that situation, you know? I don't want to be wrestling a girl in front of a kid cuz that makes us look like bad guys now. He thinks the police just fight everybody. So it takes all of us to make a generational change. You know, I want your kid to be able to come to us and help. And that now that you put a damper on that cuz now he thinks we're going to fight you every time we come into contact with you. Right. You know we're not like that. You know if she would have stepped out, we would have simply put her in cuffs, put you in cuffs, been done with it. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft of mislaid property, deceptive practice, and resisting a peace officer. Refusing to cooperate can quickly turn a theft investigation into additional charges. Staying calm and following lawful instructions can prevent a difficult situation from becoming even worse. Next, this woman thought her family put her above the law >> so we can run these cameras back. My mama went to school for this judge, my sister college. On the 31st of March 2026, police stopped a vehicle after it ran two red lights. The driver was identified as 30-year-old Aquacia Stanford, a suspect in an assault, theft, and criminal trespass case at a McDonald's dating back to December. First, here's what happened when officers initially approached her. >> Just stay in the car for me. >> Why unlock that for a 49? 49er. >> Yeah, 49er. >> Oh, okay. I got a 49er. So, that's what it is. So, listen. >> Stand still. >> I'm stand still cuz I ain't I ain't about to run. I mean, you're not kidding. Yeah. >> All right. Come on, bro. >> Hold on a second. Hey, stop pulling away. Said hold on a second. >> Stuck in there. >> Stand against my shoe was just stuck in there. What the is you doing? >> Stop getting in. >> Come on. Can you search me? Let her get me. Let her stand your car. >> Let her get me. You doing too much. Stop. Stop. You're doing too much. >> No, you doing too much. >> I don't got nothing in my pockets. I don't have nothing in literally no pockets. So, he's grabbing on me for no reason. >> Well, you're not complying with anything we're telling you to do >> with her. I'm relaxed now. Can you take me? >> Okay. I'm turning this way for her. >> Face the car. >> Oh, face the car. Now, what? >> Her attitude showed no signs of cooperation. She seemed completely unreorseful and even continued hurling insults at the officer. >> I might not thank you. Switch. >> You're a pedophile. You're a pedophile. You're a pedophile. Literally pedophile. Ain't no stop nothing. I just told you I don't [ __ ] in my pocket. Not talking about a mother 49er for somebody saying some like be for real. This ain't no real traffic stop. You acting LIKE >> NO, I CAN'T. NO, I CAN'T. Now what? Now get to the second step. >> You talking about put me wasting time. I don't talk about you talking. I don't care about none of cuz y'all acting like I'm doing something that I ain't doing. So we can run these cameras back cuz my mama went to school for for this judge. My sister college to be a mother. >> Yeah. Yeah, in the car. Like I said, nothing. >> She brought up her family members who had studied law to show off her arrogance. And more importantly, that same arrogance had already appeared in the previous incident. The officers then discussed it shortly afterward. >> Oh, this is the one. Uh, she went on Facebook was like, "Yeah, that was me. I went behind the counter and >> Oh, really? >> Remember that?" >> No. >> So, she already recorded herself saying that she broke >> on the the Facebook page comment. Like, >> yeah, you're right. >> I did that. >> So, is there theft, too, or is just a >> uh >> taking items and leaving? >> There's another officer contact. >> The battery, criminal trespass, and theft. Is that all three? >> The third one is just >> Oh, trespass and theft. No battery. >> The battery is pending on the >> Oh, okay. So, we just have trespass and theft. Do a booking for trespass and theft. Theft under. >> Is she going? >> What >> is she going? >> Oh, there's proof. Yeah, they we don't need I mean he'll probably try to talk to her, but >> I I have no idea what you're talking about. So the the Facebook page posted it and she caught up was like, >> "Yeah, why would you do that?" >> Apparently they have video. They have video and everything else. >> Oh yeah. >> Okay. >> Oh yeah. >> Back with the woman inside the patrol car. She continued clinging to her sense of entitlement, completely dismissing everything the officers were investigating. >> Talking about audio for a 49er. I'm done talking. I'm done talking. I'm done talking. your mind right. You want to talk? >> I'm done talking. >> So roll the window up. I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear the Miranda rightites. Should have been rattled when you put these cups on me. >> That's not >> Roll the window up. Okay. Well, like I said, I don't want to hear it. Nope. Nope. Nope. Roll the window up. >> What are you talking about? I got enough. >> Hey, you're going you're going to jail for criminal trespass with the criminal with >> all this for some sauce AT MCDONALD'S. HUH? >> BYE-BYE. BYE-BYE GINGERBREAD. BYE-BYE. YOU NOBODY KNOW PEOPLE that know people that know people and I'm one of them. So bye gingerbread. Bye-bye. You talking about? I ain't scared of going to the hole for one day. I'm going be out tomorrow. I don't about none of y'all wasting y'all time. >> Why you mad? >> Y'all wasting a judge time. Every time I go in front of the judge, they be like, "What? They sent you here for this? time. Not no ginger 49er from somebody said they were stressed out. What are y'all waiting on? Get to the county already. I don't give y'all tow the car cuz it ain't going to be me that tow it the back to my now. Now >> the woman believed she could get away with everything because she thought her family's careers could help her do so. Continuing to show that same arrogance. sister work for the police. You >> I'm sure she's proud. >> My sister worked for the police. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [ __ ] is not hard. I didn't went to school for a medical assistant and a flabbotoist. My sister been in school for how long? Y'all act slow as hell, bro. And this one out here. >> One, two, three. How many? Well, you sit me right there so I can put my arms under my arms. >> Put your arms behind. >> Yeah. My legs this time. >> Put your arms behind. Just calm down. Ultimately, Lewis was charged with trespass in a structure or conveyance, disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer without violence. Legitimate frustration does not excuse refusing to follow lawful orders. Cooperating with officers could have prevented a minor dispute from turning into an arrest. Next, the woman pretended to be innocent even though officers knew who she was. >> There's a really good chance that they're going to apply for forfeite and you won't get that vehicle back. >> Ma'am, just look at it this way. We're not questioning you or accusing you of anything. >> On the 26th of May, 2023, an officer approached a woman after receiving information that she was allegedly involved in the theft of an $1,800 necklace from Chanel. She quickly denied all the allegations. [music] We're looking for you. All right. So, you're expecting the theft at Chanel? You in Chanel today? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Necklace. It's like a necklace. We got footage of it happening today. Exactly what you're wearing. Exact description, glasses, everything. Do you have the item on you still? >> I don't have any. Yeah, but do you have the item you stole from Chanel? We have footage of it, ma'am. He knows you've been looking for you. There's many stores that know [clears throat] you steal items. Do you have the Chanel item on you right now? >> I do not. >> Okay. All right. Well, you're going to be placed under arrest for now. Okay. I'm going to take your items. All right. Place your hands behind your back, ma'am, please. You have rights to remain silent. Anything you do can be used against you to court of law. You have right to attorney. If you cannot afford attorneys, You got arrested last week too. Ed in prim. >> Yes. Okay. So, you're familiar with this, right? >> It turned out that the woman had a habit of stealing. Even the items she was carrying and that officers checked were suspected to have been stolen as well. The case became easier when officers already had information about the woman. Because of this, they had clear probable cause for the arrest. [music] And with the missing necklace valued at $1,800, she could potentially face a thirdderee shoplifting charge in New Jersey. But for now, she continued to stall the officer from searching the vehicle where she was suspected of hiding the stolen item. >> Not just take the necklace out of the car, they will apply for forfeite of that vehicle. You will not get that vehicle back. So, is it worth it to you to lose that vehicle or would you allow us to retrieve that necklace from whatever vehicle you made it? >> When you say allow you, does that mean um >> if it's your vehicle and you came here with it, we need your permission to enter that vehicle. Is it your vehicle? Did you drive here today? >> Yes. So you would enter the vehicle and search or do I >> we would you would sign a form that would allow us to enter the vehicle to retrieve that item or the other route like my supervisor explained was you will potentially take the vehicle for search and seizure and then you could potentially lose the vehicle as well. Would before signing the form, would you allow me to speak to my lawyer? >> No. No. There's no need to speak to a lawyer about this since you're here, right? >> Yes. But before signing any kind of form, I would like to consult with him. >> You mean consult with an attorney before any questioning? You read her her Miranda? >> Yes, I did. >> You can read your Miranda rightites? >> No. >> Um, we're not questioning you. We're just asking you for permission. sign the form, the release form to allow us to enter your vehicle to retrieve the item. Our objective is to uh retrieve that necklace that you took that we have on camera footage of you taking the item, putting it into your pocket, concealing it, and walking past all points of sales. Since this was not the first time she had faced the police, she clearly understood what she was doing. From speaking slowly to giving lengthy explanations, everything continued to show that she was trying to stall for time. >> The thing is, if I allow sign form and allow you to search, you may find anything else you like. >> Well, if you find anything else along the search for that for that necklace. Yeah. If it's if it's something with tags on it, sensor tags, no no receipts. It's it's >> No, I there's a whole bunch of stuff, you know, that I have. There's no sensor tags, >> but that I've purchased before and I don't you might take, you know, you might let me explain what what'll happen. If there's items that are in bags that don't have receipts, you're saying you purchase other items. I I can understand that. And if you purchase them legitimately, you have a receipt somewhere electronically or or or not. >> No, I'm saying that that's fine. If we do come across something that appears to be >> Yeah. I mean, honestly, you have items from other stores. They they witnessed you select this this necklace and put it in your pocket and walk out with it. If there's anything else that's new merchandise that's in bags that doesn't have receipts, that will be held. You're not going to be charged for anything unless there's there's anything that that proves any criminal activity. But if there's items that are new items that are in bags or whatever that don't have receipts, we hold it for safekeeping until you bring us receipt and then you'll get that returned to you. So you're not going to lose those items. Okay? So those items has to be held. >> Well, if there's something in there that that has it's brand new in bags that, you know, doesn't have any tags or or it has tags on it or doesn't have a receipt with it. >> The process dragged on for roughly 20 unnecessary minutes just to explain that she could voluntarily sign the consent form before officers took the next step of seeking a search warrant. The officers also explained these options to her. It's pretty much simple as that. We know you came here to did something. We haven't played against people in your party, right? Right. We're not, you know, we're not we know what you did. So, we're not, you know, accusing you and trying to fish for information. What we're trying to do instead of towing your car to headquarters, applying for a search warrant or waiting for, you know, 3 to five business days for you to get your car, we if you sign the search warrant, we'll leave the car here for you. So when you're released, because shoplifting, it's not that big of a deal. I don't know if you have history or not. I can pro, you know, but if you are released today, all you got to do is just come back and drive home. I understand that I was um explaining to your supervisors that I have other items in the vehicle and if you >> you need to find other items. We're not going to take your items from you if they belong there. >> Well, that's the thing. I don't know if >> the items have no proof of purchase other items like me. >> All right, man. You're allowed to be present. How about that? You're going to stand by and you can observe it. I understand that your supervisor explained to me that all those items will be taken in and and recorded and put in storage. So, and I have to provide a receipt in order to retrieve them. >> Well, that's exactly what's going to happen. But 5 days from now when we search your car and search them. >> So, you're not getting getting out of the easiest way. >> Either way, it's going to happen. be facilitated today. >> In the end, she agreed to sign the search consent form, but she immediately became concerned about whether there was any way to stop the search. It clearly showed the anxiety of someone who had something to hide. >> Um, do you want me Oh, you want me to be present, right? >> Yeah, you can be present. You don't have to be present. We don't want you to do anything. I want you to tell me what you want to do. I'm if I'm present and as soon as you pull the the item then you don't search further do you >> ma'am we have to search the entire vehicle to make sure how do I know it's there's one item 10 items 15 items so far we already found we have two items you know you taken we have we have video footage of you taking so it's potential you were shopping more items that maybe you didn't maybe you did but in our search if we happen to find more we'll continue the search and look So >> yeah, definitely >> your concern. >> I know you and you're saying that I have to provide the receipts. >> All right, ma'am. We have been we have been quite patient. Um well, what's your decision today? Would you like it? You say yes or no? >> So, how do you want me to do this? >> If you say no, we take you headquarters. We process you for for what went on today. If you say yes, we search your car and we go from there. >> We can say a murder. Everything's being recorded. >> Oh, okay. So, you don't need me to write that down now? >> Right on me. >> Okay. Yes. >> Or do you want me to post the car right now or? >> Well, we're going to we're going to drive up there because we want you to be present while we while we do a search. If you're willing to let us do that, we're going to stand by. The officers will search the car. I'll stand by with you. We retrieve the items that we're looking for. And like I said, you know, if you're willing to do this, fantastic. It'll help expedate the process. We'll get what you need out of this. But if you don't, definitely we're going to apply for the search warrant and we probably get it and we'll go for everything. So this this is the the better of the options, but you know, it's your choice >> again. Um, so do you want me to >> Yes, we'll take it. Start with a yes or no, man. What's your answer to our question? >> Yeah. >> Yes. Comfortable with that. Okay. >> You left-handed or right-handed? >> Right-handed. >> Why don't we uh drive? >> All right. Yeah. >> That's why I was asking. >> All right. Yeah. >> Finally, the woman was charged with thirdderee shoplifting. This case showed that delaying and making excuses could not erase the evidence against her. Once the police had probable cause and the stolen item was connected to her, her attempts to stall only made the situation worse. >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I committed a crime. I literally stole something and I wasn't thinking. >> You committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay. >> On the 22nd of October 2024, police were dispatched to Target after receiving a report of a theft that had occurred. The suspect was believed to be a woman who had attempted to take more than $1,200 worth of merchandise while paying only about $50 for some of the items. To get more details, let's hear the employees statement. >> Yeah, she basically just went around the store like selecting a whole bunch of apparel, putting a whole bunch of apparel back on shelves. Um, and then she started concealing it in bags that she had selected. And then, uh, she put the bags on the bottom of her cart and I think one was in her cart basket. And then she walked through the check lane, took out like six clothing items, paid for about $50 worth of stuff, and then tried to extinguish the rest. >> And you guys watch it on camera the whole time or in person? >> I watched in person, you watched on camera. >> Okay. And so that's not including the $50 she paid for. >> Yes. >> That is including or not including? It is not included. >> Okay. And where are the items you paid for? Still with her? >> Yeah, they are in the office. >> Okay. She give you guys IDs and whatnot? >> Not yet. >> Shortly afterward, the officer approached the female suspect. She then gave a full statement about everything she had done. >> So, why am I here? >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I crime stole stuff. I tried to steal stuff and I wasn't thinking. And why are you stealing stuff? >> I have no idea. I really don't. I was just telling him. I have no idea. It was stupid. I just My head's been everywhere and I didn't think it had a checker waiting for me for 34,000. I have no re There's no reason why should we I know that I messed up 100%. >> And these are just what all did you steal? >> It's over there. Yes. >> I'm just saying what was it? Like >> stupid clothes. >> You're just selecting random items. >> Smart. It wasn't smart. >> Okay. So, you paid for these items here? >> Yes, I did. >> How did you get here? I drove. >> You drove? Okay. >> Okay. So, you drove here and you're from Palm Bay? >> I'm I'm not from Pal Bay. I'm >> Well, I meant like you live in Pal and what made you come to go see a friend in dealing with an abusive boyfriend? >> Oh, sorry. So, were these items for you or for >> Yeah, they were for me. >> Okay. >> I wasn't thinking. I literally wasn't as soon as I I was not thinking. Sorry. Scumbag and I'll never do it again. I know that for a fact. >> Jacqueline, I got to say I've been been doing this job for a very long time and you're the first person that I've ever had commit a retail theft over $1,000 or first person ever. >> Are you serious? >> That I've had. Now, there's been others, trust me. Wow, that's I'm sorry, sir. Sorry, guys. I'm really sorry, but you guys know about me because this will never happen. Promise you that. This is so stupid. >> She tried to claim that she had only stolen the items by accident, as if that could somehow lessen her responsibility for what she had done. Even more strikingly, she calmly admitted to the actions she had committed. What changed your mind when you were walking through the store that you thought it'd be a good idea to try to take these items? >> I have no idea. I have no idea. There's no excuse for it. >> Okay. >> And I know that. >> So, you just walking through the store, you selected a few items. You're like, I'm going to pay for those and the rest of them. >> Literally was talking to the girl that I didn't move a finger. I mean, there's no there's no excuse for it. There's really not. And I feel so you did try to hide the items and conceal and pay for just the $55 worth of stuff. >> Yeah. Basically, I think Yeah. So, you knew you were only going to pay for a few items while you tried to scoot out with the rest of it hidden in your cart, >> but in a very deep way. But, I mean, there's no excuse for what I did. I know that. >> No, there's no excuse. >> And it's this is a life lesson in life. I know that. I really do know that. I'm sorry. I feel I do feel horrible about it. But I'm sitting here with you guys. >> This is a scumbag thing to do. Even better than this. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> No, sir. >> Never been in trouble anywhere before? Never sir. >> It seemed like she thought it was no big deal, but her attitude had to change when the officer explained the charges she could be facing. Um, so when it boils down to it, the state of Florida and the Tel Police Department don't take retail theft very lightly. Okay? You committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay? So, as long as you stay cooperative with me, okay, the handcuffs will stay in the front. Okay? So, that's as long as you're cooperative. If you become uncooperative, then I'll put them in the back and stuff like that. >> Yes, sir. Please understand. Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> Okay. But I'm begging you. >> Put your palms together out like this. >> I'm begging you. >> There's nothing that's going to change that you committed a felony any retail. >> Call my fiance. >> We'll we'll work on that here in a little bit. >> Sorry. You could have I think my fiance has $400 for it. >> It's It's already passed that. It's already exceeded that. Regardless of whether you had the money to pay for it or not, you should have done that before you went to walk out of the doors. These guys, this is this is their job. >> Okay, so this is what they get paid to do. Walmart has the same people at every location. Okay, this is their job. >> You attempted to walk out of the store with over $1,200 of merchandise that you were not going to pay for. You paid for $50 of it. So, yeah, you get to keep that. >> I'm sorry, sir. Please. I'm begging I'm begging. I'm honestly I'm begging you from the bottom of everything. >> Begging me is not going to work. I told you here at the city high school, we don't take retail theft lightly. Shortly afterward, the woman was allowed to make a phone call to her fianceé. He also tried to suggest a way to change the outcome, but clearly there was nothing he could do to prevent her arrest. >> Babe, you're on speaker. I'm being arrested for for theft. >> Why? >> Cuz I just I was made I made a stupid decision and I can't I can't get through. Can I talk to Can I talk to them, >> baby? >> Yeah. >> Can I talk to them? >> Hello, it's Officer McTle Police Department. >> Hey. Hey. Do is there a way I could pay it and and y'all could just give her a written arrest? >> No. So, she committed a felony retail theft and we have no lenency when it comes to felony. It's over $1,200 worth of merchandise she attempted to walk out of Target with. So, I'm I'm a reasonable cop. Okay. I'm That's why she's allowed to make this phone call. Most cops would not allow her to make this phone call. to tell her she could call you when she got to the jail. This phone call also served as a purpose as a courtesy to let you know that she's going to jail and that you need to get something done with her vehicle because if not, then Target's going to eventually tow the vehicle, which is just going to add on to the total uh it's going to cost you. >> I I got your key. Is there a way Is there a way she could leave the keys with Target and I will >> get them? >> That's up to I'm I'm here with two other employees. Is there a way that the keys could be left with you guys so he can come here and retrieve the car? Yeah, you can put it up with guest services. >> Okay, they will put the keys with with guest services. Okay. >> Can Can I double check with her? >> Yeah, she's right here. >> Yes, babe. This is so stupid. >> Hey, what what's what's our bond going to be >> uh up? It's going to be over 2,000. It may be 25. They've just recently changed the bond schedules, so I'm not >> What's that cash for? So that I know. >> Well, cash would be whatever the bond amount total would be. So it' be 2,000 or 2500, whatever it ends up being. What? What do I What am I going to have to pay a bonds person? >> A bondsman is typically 10%, but you would have to call a bondsman and let them and and and figure it out. They make their their thing. >> I can't pay the bill. I know. I'm >> okay. Um All right. That's >> So if it's 2,000, it's $200, give or take. >> All right. Um pay the bill, >> baby. >> Thank you, baby. >> Can I? >> Shortly afterward, the officer continued speaking with the loss prevention department about catching her in the act. According to the employees statement, it became even clearer that this was not an accident or an unintentional act at all. There's >> a large number of apparel selections in her cart already and she would put back selections and then select without looking prices. >> Okay. And then you would you observe as she was >> um observed her foot back merchandise and take other merchandise and sell merchandise and bags. >> And those are the three bags that were out there. >> Mhm. >> And she was just filling them full. >> Yes. And then uh she went through one of the check lanes and um only paid her about $55 worth of stuff. >> And there's a items there in the buggy currently. >> She also uh ripped open the headphones package and took the headphones out and was holding them in her hand. >> Those were the red ones that we saw. >> Okay. And you followed on foot? >> Yes. >> And you were watching here? >> Yes. >> And you kept eyes on her the whole time >> with the cameras and what? Okay. All right. Can you raise your hand the other right? There you go. you spend a statement about the whole truth. Mother TR what we got? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. >> The woman was charged with felony retail theft after attempting to leave Target with more than $1,200 in unpaid merchandise. Shoplifting may seem like a small decision in the moment, but the consequences can become far more serious when the value of the stolen merchandise reaches the felony threshold. Taking responsibility before crossing that line is always better than facing the legal consequences afterward. Next, we came to the chaos of a woman who believed she was entitled to it all. >> Roll over. >> Wow. >> Thought I was minding my business, acting like an adult already. >> Please don't touch me. >> Please don't touch me. >> On the 30th of March 2024, police received a call from a Target store after a woman caused a disturbance there. But it didn't stop there as the employees statement revealed there was much more that needed to be uncovered. Yeah, she's she's been like kissing people with babies and has already her merchandise wearing it. >> Oh, she has your merchandise on. >> Yeah, she you'll see a car. >> How many times have you asked her to leave? >> Three times. And she runs away saying I'm harassing her. Her car right here. That's her right there in all blue. >> Hello, police department. >> Hi. >> Hi. >> So, the store has asked you to leave. Could you please remove their merchandise and leave? >> I can't leave. I can remove my merchandise. >> Thank you. >> They call the police again. >> Drop the purse. Take the shoe off. >> This You don't know what's mine. >> It's got the tag on it. >> You don't know that my shoes are over there. You don't know what I know. >> Where? >> Perhaps she believes she had the right to use items she hadn't paid for because when she was caught, she didn't seem to care. But her actions only made everything more tense. >> I didn't do anything wrong. Listen, I'm not submitting to you tell her that then. >> Stop. >> I'm not going to jail. I didn't do anything wrong. my tile. Roll over. Roll over. Roll over here. Pull that arm this way. One time we're fighting here. Hold on here. That one went under her body. Hold that one. Oh, she [ __ ] bit. >> Stop it. You're hurting me, you stupid jackass. Stop it. >> I got a hold of this one. I'm trying to put these back. >> Stop it. You're hurting me, you stupid [ __ ] >> Stop fighting. >> Who's fighting? >> You are. >> How so? You literally almost >> I'm fighting. You're literally making me >> I better have the key in my [ __ ] car. >> The police truly struggled just to get the handcuffs on the woman, but it seemed she refused to submit as she still used her mouth to lash out her anger. >> Stop. You cannot blow me up. >> That one that one. >> Pretty sure she herself. >> Yeah. >> Get your knee off me. >> You okay? >> Yeah. She bit my finger. >> Get your knee off of ankle. Stop. >> You're hurting my wrist. Will you break it? I'll let you know who did it. >> Okay. Well, you need to stop fighting us. >> You need to stop making me. >> We're not. >> Oh, you certainly are. You started from the start. >> As soon as you walk up to me, you [ __ ] started hargging me. >> Yep. >> Yep. >> Going to be cooperative. >> No, I'm not going to be cooperative. It was cooperative. You [ __ ] wrestled me down the floor. I have property in that. >> Listen, stop. be cooperative or I have to put you in a wrap in the truck that you have the key to. >> Okay. >> Before a truck, >> we're going to give you one opportunity in your hand >> to walk out of here. >> Okay. >> If you don't, >> you're going to go on a wrap. >> I'm going with my property. >> Okay. >> One opportunity. >> We're going to stand you up. Okay. >> So, the woman had successfully refused her chance to leave easily and grew even more arrogant, believing she could make demands of the police the entire way during the escort. >> Mel, you lie to me again. Stop it. You're hurting me. Why are you doing this? >> I think they just >> Stop it. You're hurting my wrist. Don't break my wrist again. >> Don't break my wrist again. >> I have an X-ray that can prove my wrist has been broken. >> You want to break my wrist again? Go ahead. Stop. You're not a male. That's a male. >> She's requesting a female. >> I didn't request a female. I said you're not a male and that's a male. >> I don't understand. >> Exactly. I don't understand why I'm here either. >> I'll get your clothes off at the jail. >> Oh, wow. At the jail. I'm getting arrested. >> Oh, I think she pooped herself. >> Who called the medic? Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't touch my butt. >> You think I pooped myself? Feel like a goddamn baby. Why are you twisting my wrist? I told you you broke it once already. >> I have an X-ray that can You need to stop. >> Stop. >> You need to stop. You're the problem >> and everyone's going to stand around and let this happen. I hope someone has a captain. It's not funny. >> Don't touch me anytime. >> Act like an adult. I won't. >> Wow. I was minding my business acting like an adult already. >> Please don't touch me. Please don't touch me. I feel so violated. Really? >> I might have pooped myself. >> Get in the car. >> Who the hell are you in the car? Don't touch me. At that moment, the woman realized nothing was going her way. So, her frustration became obvious, even as if she believed she had the right to be upset with the police. >> What's your name? Where are you from? >> You just told me I can hear you. >> What's your name? >> No name. >> All right. I'm just going to have to get my fingerprint error and get your finger. So, >> Sarah. >> Okay. Sarah. What? >> What's your last name? >> What? >> What's your last name? >> What' you say? >> What is your last name? >> Penady. >> RP. >> Can you lean forward real quick? I got to get your your thumbs. >> You going to get my thumbs? >> Mhm. If you could just push your thumb like that. So, your right thumb. You're going to have to do it. I don't think they're going to help you arrest me. >> You don't have to do anything. >> I didn't do anything. >> I never did. >> Try to push down. >> I never did anything. >> I never had a chance to >> I could not. >> It's not working. You have anything on your fingers? M. Sorry. This is >> for some reason your finger's just not picking up. There we go. Okay, let's see the other one. >> And I don't know what the extent was. >> Was that revising thing only? >> It just gives me confirmation that it >> I'm alive. >> She was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer with additional outstanding warrants further worsening her situation. Actions have consequences and refusing to take responsibility can quickly turn a minor situation into serious charges. >> But I found windows. So you said it was doctor's appointments, but I see windows written here. So I'm just >> That was >> This looks like it. You're helping load stolen goods into the back of the U-Haul. >> supposed to know they stole. >> On the 8th of December 2023, officers received a report of a theft at Home Depot. What initially seemed like a simple shoplifting case turned out to involve an entire organized operation behind it. First, here was what happened when they arrived at the scene. >> Stay in front of the car, man. In front of the car. >> Stay right there. >> Keep your hands up. >> Keep your hands up. Switch hands on the van. Keep your hands on the van. Okay. Thank you. You got her. I'll take him. All right. Keep your hands on the vehicle. Keep your hands behind your back. What did I do? >> You're being detained right now for suspicion of theft. >> Oh, I didn't do nothing. >> Hang up. >> Okay. >> All right. We got two in custody here. >> He was trying to call the third guy, I'm sure. >> Okay. >> What you talking about? Lean. >> Lean up against this. Lean up against that. Freddy, do you want >> Let me check with Let me see what he's doing. >> Hey, Erns, what do you got? >> You have more windows. >> He's filling up more windows. >> Lean up against the car, please. These two suspects were believed to be acting as lookouts and assisting with the getaway while another suspect inside was actively carrying out the theft. The officers tried to confirm the identity of the third suspect over the radio. >> So Eagle, he's uh making his way up towards the front of the store. He's going to walk out of the west entrance, >> which is closest to the garden center. Not the garden center itself, the one that's got the Home Depot riding on top of it. He'll have a flat cart full of windows going on. >> Me, too. >> Can you follow me? >> Okay. He's definitely involved though, right? >> Hey, his phone should be ringing. He knows he's being followed in the store. He's on the phone trying to call that number. >> All right. The uh guy in the store knows the gig's up and he's walking out empty-handed, but we have PC to arrest him. >> Do you want me to just put him in the car? >> Do you have it? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Yeah. Yeah. We'll we'll address all your stuff as soon as we get this under control. Okay. >> Okay. >> I told you it's >> going to be the black male that just walked out. He's got a shirt hanging off his shoulder. He's walking uh northbound in the parking lot. The third suspect eventually revealed himself after his plan failed and he walked out empty-handed, but that did not mean he was innocent. Officers stopped and arrested him shortly afterward. >> Hands up. Turn around. Turn around. Walk backwards. Come back to me. Walk back to me. Keep coming. Keep coming back here. Coming. >> Chill. No. >> All right. We got to make custody. >> What would you like to say? >> Okay. I was doing this. Yep. >> Okay. I leave and I and I um I was helping them because I got caught before. >> So um I was making a big load and wait to come so everybody can You know what I'm saying? >> Oh, you knew we were coming. >> Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. Okay. >> They wanted when they arrested me. Mhm. >> Just work with them. They didn't want us. The little >> food. >> They didn't want us to. >> You just go back over there. >> No. Why didn't you call us? >> I I can't cuz I have a certain person that I contact with Home Depot. >> Yeah. Your friend. >> No. No. No. No. With Home Depot. >> Can I put him in here? >> Which Home Depot. The only thing I was called was to make sure that dog was here already. And and if you said if you didn't say nothing else >> so when I saw the other thing in there I said okay >> well you should have called us. >> No I called y'all. >> I know you were calling your friend. >> No. >> Completely contradicting the man's excuse. Officers [snorts] found a notebook in the woman's pocket. It was a major discovery that helped expose their theft operation. >> So she's going to have uh a notepad. >> Uh-huh. >> My daughter. This is just your doctor's. >> Yeah. Okay. >> The guy over there had one, too. And it was just his ceiling list. So, I just want to make sure. >> But anyway, >> just your doctor's >> Oh, windows. I thought you clean. >> That's him. >> Windows. So, you said it was doctor's appointments, but I see windows written here. So, I'm just >> That was >> This looks like his. So, I just wanted I just wanted to make sure. >> Just doctors. Let me ask if you want. >> Back to the first man. He began denying any involvement in the incident and tried to shift all the responsibility onto the other two suspects. >> So, um, what's going on is we received a call that there was someone in Home Depot stealing today. Okay, that's how we got the call. No, did I say who? I didn't say who. Okay. Um, so with that information, we obviously came here. They said that they were in a U-Haul, i.e. this this U-Haul right here that we were looking at, right? And they said that there was a young male helping the other male load up windows um into the back of the ukulele. First of all, these are just roommates to you, just from what I'm gathering. Is that correct or not correct? >> I can't I don't even know. I That's all I don't even know. >> You don't know if they're roommates? >> No, I don't. I don't stay with them. >> Okay. So, do they stay with someone you're related to perhaps? Is that possible? >> Yeah, probably. Yeah. >> Okay. Do you know the what's the guy's name over there? Do you know it? Uh older guy. You don't know it? Did he tell you to come to this Home Depot? >> Yeah. >> He told you to come to this Home Depot? >> Did he tell you for what? >> No, he was just like, "Can you take me?" I like, "My uncle got a U-Haul." Uncle like you take. Yeah, I'll take him. No problem. >> Took him. But I ain't know what the hell was going on. Like you talking about I'm still I ain't stealing. You ain't seen me steal. I'm in the car. >> I hear you. But here's the issue. You are in this U-Haul with these people that are actively committing crimes. Okay. So, you're helping load stolen goods into the back of the U-Haul. >> How supposed to know they stolen? You can help. Okay. Just slide them in on you. >> You I don't I don't mind. He going there shopping, not me. I don't have his receipt, none of that. That's him. Turning to the final suspect, he began revealing the truth about the operation behind the thefts, explaining the notebook that documented the window sails and the U-Haul driver's involvement. Okay. >> Do you want to tell me that? I know you mentioned over there you told him. Do you want to tell me that? >> Yeah, cuz I think he didn't understand what I was saying. Trying to get I talking so fast and I wasn't ready for nervous. Yeah. Yeah, I get it. >> But I'm trying to do the right thing now. And a situation where I'm disabled. I live in a rooming house and unfortunately the Roman house is corrupt. So what they do is they they make you do things and they keep me at bay. I just got a phone after a year and a half because I got robbed of last time. Guy told me at Home Depot or whatever officer they called them inside. They said um we'll we'll take care of the charges. We don't want you guys. We want the ring leader. >> Who are these people to you? They stay in the room >> just like me. Yeah. They stay in the house. >> Does he this young boy stay there? >> Yeah. Everybody stay in the house. He has a house on the lot. >> Who? Uh, >> who owns the house? >> Zed owns the house. >> Owns the house. >> Isn't said Kino's uncle? >> Yeah, of course he owns his family. >> Kino does or said he uses his family. >> Why did you guys choose this Home Depot? >> I choose it cuz I had Ken here before. >> Gotcha. Where uh where is he selling these Windows app? Uh he's right now he's got a regular customer but he usually going to offer up and and um but because um because um the other girl that did Diana she had so many customers that when she passed they still come back too. >> Did uh did Kino know what the deal was when you were coming up >> asking where he's still? He >> Yeah, she listen. She told me she >> Yeah. Yeah. He's trying to distance himself from everything because he's thinks he's just far enough away to not get in trouble. >> Hey, whose bag is this? >> What is it? >> Um, >> yeah, sure. They can say they didn't know, but everybody knows. >> Antoine was charged with organized retail theft and grand theft. Kino and the female suspect were also charged for their roles in the theft operation. Being the driver or a lookout does not automatically remove responsibility. When evidence shows that several people knowingly work together, even a supporting role can lead to serious charges. Next, [music] the man had ultimately trapped himself in his own fraudulent scheme. >> When I came in the door, you was trying to leave. So, do you have an account here at this bank? >> He has been trying to get access to the phones >> over the phone. He's been trying to call and do ACA. >> On June 8th, 2023, police received a report from a bank about an ongoing fraud. Officers immediately arrived at the scene to stop a suspect attempting to flee. This was what happened next. >> Sir, hold on one second for me. Okay, do me a favor. Just just relax. I'm going just detain you for right now, okay? So, I figure out what's going on. You're just being detained. Just sit down. Do you have any um weapons on you? Guns, knives, anything that'll stick me or poke me? >> No, sir. >> No, I want another one to turn. >> You stay You can stay turned this way. Have ID? It was revealed that the man had attempted to steal another person's identity documents to withdraw money. And shortly after, police took his documents to begin checking them. >> This it. >> Yes, sir. >> What's your name? >> Ty, sir. >> Say it again. >> Ty. >> Last name. >> What's your birthday? Sir, >> I'm asking you. >> 11373 >> right now. Like I said, >> h you can come outside and sit down in the car. >> All right. Just come outside. Let the windows down once you get inside. All right, we got dispatch here to a fraud in progress. You can stay in the car. >> They described you to a te. >> Yes, sir. >> When I came in the door, you was trying to leave. So, do you have an account here at this bank? Yes, sir. >> His own claim of not having a bank account there became a self-inccriminating admission. Back inside the bank, officers uncovered even more shocking details about the case. >> So, what's going on? Well, this young man out there in your possession that you arrested, he stole the social security number of a tie out of El Grove, California. Um, and then he also overtook his accounts with a merit trade and had a check sent to him. This is the real T had the check sent to an address in Hinesville, Georgia. the real T does not live there and he deposited this check here at regions and that ID the other day in the state of Florida they said that number did not exist. >> I was going to run it. I didn't run it yet. >> So did >> and and merit trade has requested the money back for account takeover. >> So did this guy file a police report >> who t the real time? >> Yes. >> Have no idea if he has or not. We contacted him. So he is aware though that >> he is aware and uh air trade because we made him aware has requested the money back because his identity was to I mean this guy took over all of his accounts. >> So the real person did not know until you called him and told >> until our investigator called and told him >> the value of the check he attempted to fraudulently obtain reached up to $31,000. Additionally, bank staff had evidence showing that the suspect had previously tried multiple methods to withdraw the money. >> On well, May 30th was a Monday, but so it was the Saturday, >> the 28th. >> He has been trying to get access to the phones >> over the phone. He's been trying to call and do a >> wires, anything to get the money. >> He stated before he came in today that he needed to get cashier checks to pay his employees. Um, so he was going to request to, you know, withdraw the funds. So, and >> Okay. So, this is the check that he wrote in. >> This is the actual check. >> Can you make copies of this stuff for me? >> Yep. >> And this too, please. >> This is the uh opening account information, the documents that he signed and then 272. >> And then this is that's where he registered company, but but he didn't know how to spell consulting. >> And then here is the email from um air trade requesting the money back due to account takeover and all that. >> What's the date on that email from America trade? >> That is June 5th. Okay. >> And this is where our investigator identified that the real T based on the social security number given lives in Elk Road, California. >> Okay. >> Returning to the man, he clearly knew what was coming for him. But it seemed he clung to that fact to avoid answering the officer's questions. >> I'm being sold. I'm going in today. >> You're going to jail? But I mean I I was going to ask you some questions in reference to the incident that took place here today. So do you want to talk to me? Huh? Do you want to talk to me without a lawyer? >> No, sir. >> Say it again. >> No, sir. But I'll put my name and stuff so you can process properly. >> I was going to ask you that, too. So, what's your legal first name? I need you to do me a favor. Step out the car and turn around and face the car once you get out. You got $60 in your pocket. I'm going to put it back in your pocket. Yes, sir. I have receipt. Receipt. Put it back in. In the end, he was charged with multiple offenses, including identity theft, fraud, forgery, possession of false identification documents, and financial transaction card theft. [music] Actions driven by greed and deception may seem successful at first, but they often unravel under scrutiny, leading to serious consequences that could have been avoided with honesty.
