Where's the mail that me? [screaming] >> Don't make this harder than what it has to be. >> Don't make this harder than what it has to be. >> I didn't. >> A cart full of merchandise was clearly visible, and even [music] the checkout point was obvious. Yet, some reckless individuals ignored it. And by the time the police arrived, tension had already taken over. All of this will be revealed in today's video. Cops versus dumbass shoplifters pushing full cart past [music] checkout like nothing's wrong. Welcome to This is Law, a channel that takes you inside real encounters with law enforcement. Like and subscribe to support us for more videos to come. Starting with this woman. Shoplifting is just a mistake. >> So, it looks like most of the stuff that wasn't leaked in. She'd never scan this pants. She just >> look me up. I ain't never did nothing like this. >> Like I told him, it should I should have just literally went through the >> On January 4th, 2025, police received a call from Walmart after a woman was suspected of failing to fully pay for items at selfch checkckout and leaving the store. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was escorted to the loss prevention room. Watch what happened next. >> Hello. All right. So, what is going on? >> All this was not scared. >> Okay. All right. Could you When you get a sec, I know you guys are busy. Can you get the CCTV? >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. Cool. All right, ma'am. Hello. I'm Officer Foster at the Washington Police Department. To start, I'm going to read you your Miranda rights. Okay. So, before I ask you any questions, it is my duty to advise you of your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court or in other proceedings. You have the right to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions and to have him present during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you free of any cost to you before any questioning if you wish. Do you understand those? >> Okay. All right. So, >> so if you look me up, I ain't never had nothing like this. So, some of the stuff just didn't scan or something. >> I got you. >> I literally scanned this stuff just and I probably should have went through all this stuff, but I ain't never been in no trouble. Look me up. I got so you were just shopping and then >> like I ain't change a tag. I ain't put nothing in my pocket. I ain't do nothing. Like that's why you don't see like a lot of stuff or whatever, but it I did have a good amount of stuff where I went through the scan and I should have just went through the, you know, the regular line trying to put the stuff, you know, going to myself and stuff like that, but nothing intentional. >> The woman denied all actions considered wrongful, but the police reviewed the surveillance footage and everything proved otherwise. >> That's a bunch of stuff up on the side. >> Mhm. And she grabs the hand scanner. I initially saw it like this. Never got scanned. >> I gotcha. Cuz they can use the >> Yeah, the hand scanner. So if you watch it, she puts up there and she'll never go to bed. >> I already read her Miranda. >> So it's like most of the stuff that wasn't linked. >> And then she'd never scan those pants. She just >> Okay. >> Thank you. I'll send you a link here in a little bit. I appreciate it. Okay. Have you gotten everything you guys need to as far as >> Yeah, they went through >> items and all that. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right, ma'am. So, did you watch any of that while he was playing? >> That's why I said you see you don't see me intentionally. That's why I said I'm having everything up there. I went >> Yep. We're not saying you intentionally did it. I'm not saying accidents happen. We're all human, right? >> So, but as I just witnessed, if you watched it too, I'm sure you observed it as well. If you're SC, let's say I'm scanning these three. It looks like you're boom and then going quick and boom. So, you're missing something. So, >> did you come here with any intentions of not fully paying for something or >> if you check my I can show you my link card. Like my link card has literally like $900 on it. >> So, it was like I was blessed to have, you know, got my link and everything like that. If you look me up, I ain't never did nothing like this. Like I said, it should I should have just literally went through the full thing or whatever the >> thing instead of the you scan. I'm putting everything on there and just But like I was watch if you watch too, you don't see me like being sneaky if you if that makes sense. >> No, the only the only reason I'm bringing that up is cuz we're here almost daily. >> Oh, >> so we do hear a lot of the same. >> I live out here so I'm not coming out here to steal. This is my Walmart. >> The woman tried to portray herself as a good person and the police listened, but based on what they witnessed, they could not overlook the crime she committed. So, as I saw, you did you missed items and then proceeded to leave the store, which people I think a lot of people think stealing is the instant you leave the front doors, it's stealing, but it's technically the last point of sale, >> which if I remember correctly, it's right after the registers. So, at that point, if it's not scanning, you're walking out with it. >> Well, I wouldn't know. I ain't never stole a [laughter] It is still stealing at this point. So, I'm going to wait till he gets back with the training receipt and we'll go from there. But >> I wanted to get this stuff. Like I said, I had >> Well, it's we're kind of at that point where it's like you didn't pay for it and then they bring you in here and then you want to pay for it now. I don't I think we're kind of past that. >> Oh, that's fine. >> Yeah. >> He scared me. I said, "No, I see too much Tik Tok. What happened? What happened?" >> That's all I watch is Tik Tok. >> Nothing's going to get crazy in here. We just got to I got to wait till he gets that receipt and then >> Do you have anything on you that would be like worrisome for us? Do you mind if she searches you >> or I can't? I don't want to make you do everything. >> No, you just want to set that stuff down. >> Do you mind if I go through your purse? >> Turn around and then see the wall there. Go ahead. That'll be surprisingly take place put up on your think that you have anything on you. >> I know that. >> Thank you. I appreciate it. 23. >> Oh, okay. Walmart. >> All right. Do you just want this back right here and then I'm sorry I >> Yeah, but I forgot to put a few things back, but I'm going to get them to you here. >> There was no further objection, and the police promptly reached a conclusion on the case. >> All right, ma'am. So, I'm going to give you this. So, you are being charged with retail theft. >> Okay. >> What does that mean? >> So, you're going to have to go to court. >> Yep. Do you got to go to court on February 3rd, 2025, 9:00 a.m. in Pin? Do you know where the Tazwell County Courthouse is? You do or you don't. Okay. So, it's in Pin. If you Google it, Taswell County Courthouse, you should be able to find that address pretty easily. >> I want to say it's all capital. >> Other than that, does that make sense as far as the court date? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Do you have any questions regarding that or anything else? >> That's pretty close to it. That's the circuit clerk, but it's going to be right next to the courthouse, I would imagine. So, do you have any questions for me or anybody else or anything like that? Okay. Other than that, are you guys done speaking with it? Okay. Other than that, you guys are free. You're free to go. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yo, that court date everything you have. >> Yep. Whatever you told them, just stay in court. So, >> so Walmart will be there or something to tell. Who >> was that? >> He'll be talking to the judge. Just the name of the I met the judge. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um but other than that, you're free to go. So, >> does she need her receipt? >> There you are. All right. Have a better day, ma'am. >> Finally, the woman was charged with retail theft. Actions matter more than excuses because once evidence is clear, good intentions cannot erase the consequences of a mistake. Next, the reckless couple ran to escape, but only to cry. >> I want to be [laughter] about myself. >> Please don't shoot me. >> Get on the ground. Get on your stomach. >> I got a heart. >> Get on your stomach. >> On February 8th in Ohio, police received a report of a theft that had occurred. The suspects were believed to have fled the scene and upon arriving immediately, officers attempted to track down the suspects based on the information provided. >> They went over the railroad tracks. >> Yeah, they're in the bus. >> Oh, they're in the bus. >> Further that way. >> Okay. Headed south of this line. That's where we're headed now. You saw a female got a red shirt. >> The suspects fled into the woods believed to be a vast and difficult area to search, but they forgot that with bright clothing, police quickly located one of the two. >> Stop. STOP. Where the mail went? >> Stop. Get on the ground. >> Where's the mail? >> That way. >> I was trying to get you guys. Hold on to this side. >> Am I going to jail? >> Why are you there, Thomas? >> I didn't for you like that. I was trying to help you guys. >> [laughter] >> I thought that's all I was doing. >> You want to stand up or you want to stay sitting for a minute? >> I was standing down for a minute. >> All right. >> So, why were you running from Walmart? >> I was just with my boyfriend and next they stopped him or whatever. >> And then they said, "Won't you get away from us?" That's what I want to do. At the same time, on the other side, police [music] also found the remaining suspect. He attempted to flee, but the attempt failed under police restraint, leaving him struggling to breathe. >> Get on the ground. Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. >> Please don't shoot me. >> Get on the ground. Get on your stomach. >> Get on your stomach. >> I got your stomach. Get your hands out. ON YOUR STOMACH. I TOLD YOU ON your stomach. >> Okay, give me your arm. >> You hurt me back. There you go. >> Well, if you would listen to what Iing tell you, you wouldn't have had that problem, would you? >> Sir, I'm just trying to say I got a heart problem. I can't breathe. Please. Please, sir. >> Roll over on your left side. I can get my back. Please get me off this ground. >> Roll on your right knee. >> Let's walk where we can. >> My girl's pregnant, man. >> You want stupid to be stealing then, huh? >> She was hungry. I got back. >> Everyone has back problems. >> Well, you just ran a mile. I think you're all right, bud. I did not run. >> I will when we get to the cruiser. >> At that moment, the two were brought back together. And the first thing they shared was not any acknowledgment of guilt, but complaints about the consequences of their own actions. >> Baby, calm down. >> I'm trying. Baby, I love you. >> Baby stressing out, man. YOU'RE PREGNANT. STOP. >> I TAG WITH ME. HER ID. >> BREATHE. >> I need to be quiet for a second. >> Are you pregnant? >> Yes. [laughter] >> Cover her. I'll cover her. >> IF YOU RUN, YOU'LL BE CHARGED with escape. Do you understand that? >> Right now, you're an inmate. If you run from us after being not in the CF, >> you'll be charged with a felony escape. Do you understand that? >> I'm not going to run. I'm not going to run. >> You were running from me, were you? I told him I was doing what they asked you to do. >> They asked you to run. >> Yes, they asked me to go get him. Go talk to him. I swear to God for me. >> The people at Walmart. I swear to God they did. My boyfriend. I swear to God they did. >> Take us back to Walmart. >> And you know they got your mouth. Baby, >> stop moving. >> You search her yet? >> Search. >> Get your hands off your pants. >> Take this off. that over here. >> Come on, man. I'm just trying to make it all >> Well, I'm trying to make it to where we're safe. >> Shortly afterward, police brought the suspects back to Walmart to make formal decisions regarding their actions, ensuring that the incident would be officially recorded in their criminal history. >> Tries to stop people for chocolate and they automatically bar you. Okay? You're both already in Well, you are in handcuffs. So, >> she's pregnant. She can't. >> Okay. I'm just letting you know that you are barred for life. Okay. From all Walmarts in the world. All right. I'm I'm going to write in custody right here because you can't sign it. All right. Both of them getting bored. >> Third time. >> You said both of them. >> Oh, yeah. Right. I thought you said third time getting bored. >> Oh, no. I said Oh, they both getting >> Yeah. >> I was doing He told me, did he told me to go talk sentences into my boyfriend? Didn't you say that? >> It It was It was working for a minute. Then you took Did you Did you Did he tell you to run from the police when they told you to stop, too? >> I didn't know they were >> Or did you just take that on your own hands? >> Okay, Melissa. I didn't know you guys were behind until I looked already. >> And then I said stop and you kept running that part. >> Yeah. I'm listen you were good until you decided to run too. Okay. >> That that's what got you. All right. So, do you want to sign it yourself or you want me to put in custody for you? >> I mean, how am I supposed to get you if I didn't go after you? >> Do you want me to write in custody or do you want to sign this? >> Just write up your name. You guys got everything back and charges? >> Yeah, we have to. It's not a freebie, man. >> Have you ever been caught here before? >> No. >> Anywhere any other What happened today? [snorts] >> All right. What about you? >> I'm with him. Like I like you said, [cough] >> I didn't get stopped at the door, but I did follow him. you guys targeting her, too. >> Um, she's going to be in our case system. >> During the investigation, police discovered their records. Melissa Butterball, age 32, had a history of instability and often lost control when confronted by police. The man was Leland A. Sprouse, aged 24, a repeat offender with an active warrant. Because of what they did that day, Walmart issued a decision that followed them for life. >> Am I? Did you come in here to buy anything specific? >> You want to buy some a some plumbing part? Some plumbing parts. >> You better thank them. They got enough on you. Charge it with complicity at the least. There's a female watch that you selected in there. So, I mean, you're just as guilty as he is. Waited for your apology. >> Sorry. >> Sorry. Just don't for Don't make it worse. You guys understand if you come back to any Walmart property including Sam's Club, gas station, parking lot, and store charge of trespass. [laughter and clears throat] >> That includes um our database system goes everywhere, but we're specifically designed the region and everywhere that is within [cough and clears throat] the reasonable driving distance between Strippleville, Wley, >> Jackson, all that stuff. They're all going to have your picture back there. So, if you come in, they're going to trespass at least. Can we finish off our handy pants on the leggings? The leggings. >> In the end, both were convicted of obstructing official business, while the man also faced a theft charge and was taken into custody on an active warrant. Running from responsibility only escalated the consequences, turning a minor act into lasting legal trouble that could have been avoided by cooperation and accountability. Next, the thief ended up spending Thanksgiving behind bars. All thanks to her own shocking actions. >> Why you doing it? >> You don't want to pressure you >> from what? >> No. Take off the jewelry off your wrist. >> What do you What did you put in your mouth? >> On November 26th, 2023, police were dispatched to Walmart after receiving a report of a theft committed by a woman. They arrived at the scene immediately where store employees promptly reported everything they had observed. Watch what happened next. >> Thanksgiving eating. >> Okay. You got away with a whole shopping cart full of merchandise. They called me just now saying, "Miss Sandra, this a lady up here trying to use a couple hundred of $600 bill." >> Oh wow. >> So no charge and she got a full customer service, but she didn't $84 today. >> Okay. What What you charging? What's your charges? >> Um, 27. >> What about the Cuz the the supervisor saying something about counterfeit bills. >> Did she have counterfeit bills? >> She tried to use them. >> Yeah. >> That's another one. That's another charge you going to have to give. So that's the size of money. Make sure that you add that. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Oh, your ser? >> Yeah, she's out there. >> $850. >> The the theft of the merchandise. $864. >> Okay. >> $100 bill. I think she got it on her. Okay. >> She was trying to hand it. >> Oh, that's what she had. >> That type of >> Oh, no. She stole all of that stuff the other night. >> Oh, so she stole the whole Thanksgiving dinner >> and and the oil and this Pepsi and potato chips. She stole the whole shopping cart for the book. She's crying right now. >> So, in the end, she tried to steal over $800 worth of Thanksgiving food by using counterfeit bills to pay for it. Now, watch what drove her to do it. >> Why you doing that, though? >> Why you doing it? >> You under pressure. >> From what? >> From what? So, you under pressure you willing to risk your your your freedom for because you're under pressure? So it's not her first time. She got away with she she not her first time. She cried out cuz she goes. >> Do you guys go to Do y'all go to court? So it sticks. >> Mhm. >> I used to show up in court by myself all the time. All the stores, Walmart, Walgreens, nobody would never stand. >> So sometimes though and and and I and I fought them. Sometimes we don't get the paper to go to court and then when we do get it, it's a couple of days later after the court hearing that doesn't pass by. >> Oh, okay. >> So that that's that's the problem. We don't sometimes the subpoena we don't get it. If they don't hand deliver a subpoena here, we don't get this. We don't get it. >> And then when we do get the mail, it's 5 days later when the court it don't go nowhere. They'll go to jail right now, but it gets dropped. >> Oh no. I'm one of those and even if I got to go myself, I go from I go for I go as a representation for my guys. I'll go stay. >> This was not the first time for this woman. For many reasons, Walmart had been unable to press charges before, but this time was different. The suspect shed what appeared to be nothing more than fake tears. >> Who saved you this time? >> I think one night Hey. Um, take the jewelry off your wrist. >> Yeah, unfortunately. Take take the jewelry off your >> wrist. You got something first though. >> You going you going your name? >> The first line is print your name and then the second one is sign. >> What? Promise up here. >> There ain't no damn promise to appear when it's a felony. >> Over 750. >> Over 750. >> Hey, sign that for me, please. >> I don't I'm trying to do some like >> Yeah. What? >> Like I don't know how >> close just uh just close on that that document, please. She has to wet so we can print and sign. >> Yeah. So the first one she going to print, the second one, please. >> Zapora, please. >> Remember, you are trans from every Walmart, >> not just this one. for every Walmart. >> You got to You got to say that Walmart, too. >> The woman knew she could no longer change anything, so she was forced to comply with the officer's instructions. It was at that moment that several suspicious actions began to unfold. >> All right, just take the jewelry off, please. >> No, take off the jewelry off your wrist. >> What do you What did you put in your mouth? >> That's my hand. Spit that out. Spit that out. What are you doing? >> Come on, man. >> Officer looking for rapid. >> Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put them together like you pray. Okay. >> Enemy copy. >> Come on. Turn around. >> Come on. >> Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. No. >> No. Put your hands together like you're praying. Put your hands together that I can play. >> Right there. >> I'm going to have to impound it. >> I'm going to have to impound it. >> So, she she adjusted both, right? >> I think so. I think so. It was a big It was like a big ass thing. >> It totaled 150. >> Good stuff. >> So, one $100 bill and two $50 bills. So, $200. >> Shortly afterward, the woman was escorted to the police vehicle. There was no sign of shame at all. That >> jewelry right there. >> You taking your phone too, right? >> Let me Let me get this. Thank you. >> Let's go. Let's go. >> That's your phone. This is her phone. >> Charge back out. Wait, don't close. Let me just >> What? >> No, unfortunately. >> Huh? You walk past you have to go through um point. >> You did past the checkpoint. >> I didn't I got to >> I'm going to take one off. I'm taking one off. So I need you to lean forward. Good. >> Yeah. >> No, I can't. Not until we get to the gym. What? >> In the end, the woman Zapora Abraham was charged with grand theft and uttering forced bills. Actions driven by deceit and entitlement may seem easy at first, but they always lead to consequences that cannot be avoided. Next, the unsettled shoplifter with an appearance like the thief. >> I said by the TV, sorry by the TV by the TV. The lady said they were open, so I walk back. >> Uh oh, there he is. All right. Pushes it through. University. >> On February 1st, 2025, police received a call from Walmart after a shoplifting incident was reported at the store. A man wearing suspicious clothing attempted to carry a TV out of the store without paying. When approached, he tried to make excuses for his actions. >> Don't walk out the store with a TV. >> I try to find you. Can I say something? >> I tried talking to come back up here. >> God, you got a nasty ass bug coming from her. Yeah. Yeah. I get it. I get it. Yeah. I think you know you got it right. >> Okay. But anyway, you guys leave back there. I tried to buy a TV. She said over here. I I went right here. Ask her. I didn't bring TV past the door. I left her right there. I went ask somebody. I saw my team from back here open right here. You ask the lady back there. You ask her. You ask her. She didn't open. You ask her. She weren't open. You ask her. I let the TV right here. I let her right there. I didn't go back the door. You got the lady. I try to keep from her. She didn't open. You guys were open. >> I can't even understand. I said by the TV trying to buy the TV by the TV. The lady said they were open. So I walk by and go past the door. I try to talk to him. He said that they couldn't buy I can't pay for right there. I ask go pass the door. You got the lady by electronic. I tried to buy right there. >> You pass all this stuff? >> Huh? >> Did you pass all this stuff? >> I I went to electronic first. I went to electronic first. You >> relax. >> No, you ask the lady. >> Relax, man. Relax. >> No, you ask the lady. The man rushed in his speech caused his story to become tangled and inconsistent. The officer beside him had a different account of the same incident. >> He came straight from the back. This is what they told him. The police told him he grabbed the TV. He walked straight to the door. When he seen me, he tried to push it out the door and walk out the other side. >> Ask the late. Ask the late They not here to even >> What? The loss prevention here. >> Yeah, they not even me. Just you guys trespass but they not even here. He don't have no ID on >> I won't come back. I won't come back. >> What's your name? >> My name is Giovanni. >> Lord G. >> Lord. It's too early for you from here and he tried to call him several times. He didn't respond. He just kept walking. >> Yeah. Okay. Right there. I didn't hear her. I didn't hear anything. just answer questions that I that I have. All right? >> Cuz it's way too early for this. >> You shouldn't even be here doing this right now. >> If I I'm going to go run you for everything. All right. Got retail thefts in your background. No. >> Never been arrested before. >> No. >> Never. >> I've been arrested. Yes. I'm >> Well, I had a gun charge. >> Okay. You got anything on you right now? >> No. >> All right. I'm going to pay you down. All right. >> The man spoke at the speed of an auctioneer. Almost childlike. And every time he mentioned the TV, he blamed it on some woman. >> That's an expensive TV, my man. You got the lady back there. I'm trying to get you gas. I was trying to pay for gas lady back there. Can you please go talk to lady? She's never open. I wouldn't go. >> Listen. Listen. Here's the question. You didn't get her attention. Why didn't you get nobody else attention? Cuz she said I had to talk to this dude right here. I had to talk to you. Open. >> Hell out. So you went to talk to him. Oh, I was [ __ ] I want two people. >> I think I think you done [ __ ] yourself now. >> No, no. Ask the girl electronic. Please ask the girl electronic. She said I had to talk to my electronic. Please talk to the girl electronic. Please talk to I >> You just You just said that you had to talk to him. >> I had to talk to the girl at the door. >> Yeah. Why? Why? When you saw him, you walked away. >> I walked that way towards him. He He came this way. I walked that way. >> Is that accurate? He just started walking away. >> He was going out the door. He seen me >> let the car go and then try to go to the other side of the door. Try to walk. >> No, I heard where he came from. He came from. >> He acted as if multiple witnesses would come forward to defend him, but it was not that simple. The man simply refused to take responsibility for his actions. >> I don't know. You guys pay for that. So, >> I was going to pay for it. I was going to I going to pay for it, but you didn't. So, you still deal with it without paying for it. >> No, I went out the I went out the door. I was I didn't pick up the door. >> Just you walk past my direction. That's it. >> She said I open I just want to open open the [ __ ] department. I was trying to do I was going I was going to go I didn't know that was I was trying to stud I now said don't take money off the phone. Oh, tapping. Tapping. They don't do tapping. >> They don't do tapping before. >> No, you don't. We never did. Home doesn't do tapping. >> Home does not do that. >> You ever been arrested before? >> Yeah, I said it already. >> You said it to me? >> No. So, how the [ __ ] would I know? >> For what? [groaning] >> Um, a gun charge of domestic violence. >> Pipe case and domestic violence. Never retail theft. >> Not once. >> No. >> Hard to believe. >> To verify the incident, police reviewed the surveillance footage with loss prevention staff, and everything the man had said was proven to be false. >> Uh, oh, there he is. All right. Pushes it through. duty and a rescue. >> Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Perfect. [music] So, pass the last point of sale. I'll try ditching the cart. Can you do it one more time? [music] That's 619. [music] So, who had eyes on him in the story? Remember probably that lady [music] >> cuz there was no electronics. You had to pay up here. >> Yeah. Let's see him pass. So due to the time there was nobody uh there's no uh you can't cash out in electronics, right? >> Right now I know they don't have a drawer back there. >> Okay, >> perfect. So that's why employees knew that he didn't pay for it, >> right? >> So everything was clear to everyone except the suspect himself who still insisted he was completely innocent. >> Did you let me let me out on Ibon or whatever? >> Well, unfortunately there's no such thing as an Ibon. We have something that um uh it's called a sight and release. It identifies as a sight and release, but it's pretty much an iPod. So, do I get that here or what? How does that >> um No. >> Do I get that? >> You got to do it at the station. >> Do I get window? >> Yeah. As long Oh, by the way, what's your name? >> Lord. So, you know, >> Lord. Yeah. >> You didn't tell me that. >> What did I ask you? I said you give this guy BS and what' you say? No. >> So, you're BSing me, too? So what happens? >> Oh, let me tell you. That's another charge. So that's that's what we call obstructing. Okay. Can't give that misdemeanor. >> Misdemeanor. >> Misdemeanor, >> dude. I don't know. Just just go with the flow. >> Okay. Oh, but your retail theft for sure. >> For that for >> I don't know, man. I don't know, you know. Unfortunately, Kim Fox's uh Kim Fox's World of Fun is over. So, we have a uh new states attorney, so we're going to work through it. All right. >> In the end, the man was charged with retail theft and obstruction of justice, as the name he had provided was confirmed to be non-existent at the station. Always be truthful and cooperative. Trying to manipulate the story only leads to more serious consequences. Before moving on to the next shoplifterss, meet this legless brat. >> Jordan, you need a hand down there. You good? I'm good. You got a hobble. >> I've got one up in my bag. >> On September 23rd, 2025, police responded to a call from the airport regarding chaos that occurred on a Frontier Airlines flight. So, if you didn't extend any courtesy for me, it just got taken me to jail. >> The woman was easily identified by police as part of an organized retail theft ring, making her sobbing nothing more than a calculated attempt to beg for mercy. And I just I just I just wanted everything. And I'm stupid. I'm sorry. I don't know if you know the answer to this. If I do go to jail, do you know how long I have to be there for? I don't mind. >> How much was it? >> 750. >> Okay. Was it 1,000? >> What was it? >> 750. >> $7.50. >> Oh, no. 750 like 750. >> Okay. So, it wasn't a,000. Or perhaps there was another meaning behind that reaction altogether. >> Oh, because I'm black. You >> sure it's not because you're black? >> No, because I'm black. >> I don't think so. Have you ever had a Florida license or so you never like lived in Florida? >> Have you lived anywhere else other than Texas? >> Mhm. >> I've never been to Texas. >> Really? >> You should come. My dad >> I've heard it's nice. >> My dad lives out there. So >> she said call her before you come. Go call her. >> I don't want to. >> Yeah. She said, "Go call her before you come here." Yeah. >> Anyways, back to how I look. How old do I? >> 30s. >> 30? So, you think I'm older than you? >> Dang. I have to go get a facial treatment soon, huh? >> I got to get some Botox. Saying I look 30. If you're 29 and I'm 30, >> you know, some age you might look uh you might look older than you. The officers deliberately engaged her in small talk to ease the tension while another officer worked with the bank manager who raised serious suspicions about every move she had made. >> What happened today? >> She came in wanting access to the account and >> to this account here. >> Yes. And anytime we pull up an account, if there's warnings or anything on, like it immediately starts flashing at us. And I and my teller needed overrides to get in. And once we start reading the notes, it says, "Please call [clears throat] y'all." Um that she's committed identity theft. She's tried to open multiple accounts with different IDs. That's just an example of one of the other ones that she >> But that was stuff that's already been done. What did she do today? >> It's just basically >> trying to get into this fraudulent account. >> She just tried to get in this account. >> Mhm. >> So this an active account? No, it's locked up completely. Yeah. And then she's presented that ID on the back there. >> I opened another account with that ID. >> The 1982 where you at? >> Yeah. So, she was just trying to get access to money today. >> Yes. >> We got enough units so we don't need changing. First, she's like, I need my online banking. I need to take money out. Now, I need to put money in. She kept saying like all these different things. >> Um, but I couldn't do any of it. >> Yeah. Okay. >> 43 to 40. Um, it appears she came up here and tried to take money out of an account that has already been flagged for fraud zone and stuff. >> From what the bank manager confirmed, the sophistication of her documents made it clear she had not acted alone. There had to be an organized operation behind it. Coincidentally, police had already encountered the remaining members inside a vehicle [music] flagged as being used in the fraud. >> What's your name? >> Evans. >> Evans. What we're going to do is you step out of the vehicle. Okay. Any weapons? anything like that inside the vehicle? >> Okay, I'm just going to pull you out one at a time. Just keep your hands up on the steering wheel for me. You can put your phone on the dash right there. Just put your hands on the steering wheel for me. Okay. Open the door. Sergeant is going to grab your wrist and you're going just going to step out. Okay. >> Just going to step out. Okay. You're going to turn around, put your hands on top of it. Mhm. Okay. Like I said, you're just being detained right now. You're not under arrest. >> In the car. >> I got >> We're pulling him off. >> Yeah. >> Making sure. >> Yeah. >> We got here. >> Yeah. >> Same. We got here the same time. Yeah. >> All right. Go ahead and step up for me. Just keep your hands up. Step out. Okay. Place the car being. >> You're on probation, Bubba? >> Sure. >> You on probation right now? >> No, I'm on uh >> What is that? supervised release. >> No, that's just a monitor like for uh like that's just how they do it in S County like a GPS >> like do you have a PO that you talk to? >> Right. Right. Right. Right. >> So you got a PO that you talk to once a month or once a month. >> Nobody checking. >> Oh, okay. Okay. >> At this point, officers turned back to the woman and used the information provided by the bank to verify her statements, testing whether her story truly matched the facts. >> And when you open the account, was this the ID that you presented? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, is your first name Jessica? >> Jessica, New October. >> Okay. What's your date of birth? >> Uh, October 1st. >> What year? >> 1988. >> Okay. How tall are you? >> I'm 5'6. >> 56. Okay. How long have you had this driver's license? >> Um, how about 2 years? >> 2 years. Okay. Uh, since you've opened the account here at Additions, um, have you been the money going in and out? Have you been making any deposits? >> Oh, that's exactly what I was trying to talk to them about. I've been the account has been it's been acting weird like when I logged in it say that uh it was too much uh too much time so I've been trying to log into the account so when I >> like online >> yes that's why I came up here to talk to them about >> okay uh so since November and now have you been getting like direct deposits in the account to use the account regularly or >> No I haven't been using the account regularly the only time I try cuz I was going to put some money on on the account right now and >> Okay. >> I couldn't do that because they was telling me that they was trying to open finish um with the account. >> Okay. >> Uh or you going to deposit cash or check? I >> was going to deposit cash. >> Okay. So, do you have cash on you? >> Yes, it's in my wallet. >> Okay. How much how much cash is it? >> It's 100. >> 100? Mhm. >> Okay. So, you're coming to deposit 100 bucks. You want to put money in the account? >> [clears throat] >> Everything pointed to impulsive lies spilling from her mouth, unaware that officers had already prepared additional documents to confront her with the truth. >> Do you recognize that ID? >> No. >> With your photo on it? >> No. >> You don't recognize that? So, according to additions financial, they said you tried to open another account with that same ID with your photo on it, with a different ID, different name. You know anything about that? I mean, it's here. You know, the same photo that photo right and which is why we're here right now. If I told you that I talked to Miss Jessica [music] on the phone before coming in and talking to you, would you believe me? Or do you think I'd be lying to you? >> I don't know. >> What do you think? I've been truthful with you this whole time. I don't think you've been very truthful with me. Okay. So, we can be truthful about what's going on or we can continue to lie about it. and I got a notate that you continue to lie to me about it. >> She had the right to remain silent. Yet that silence only reflected her despair at being exposed. Moments later, she admitted to the scheme she had carried out. >> Someone employing you? Are you getting paid to do this? >> I'm getting paid, right? >> Okay. How much are you getting paid? >> 500,000. >> 5,000 after what though? You're not getting 5,000 just for opening an account. What has to be done before you get to 5,000? >> Just this. >> Huh? >> Justice. >> Just open it and then eventually they'll hit the account for whatever they hit it for and then they'll break you off the five or they usually break you off the five up front. >> Uh, break it off five up front. >> They break it off up front. Okay. Is it these guys that you with? >> Are they just working? >> Just driving. >> They just working just like like you working. >> Do you know them? >> Personally, no. >> Just do through the job. No, they they not part of like I just asked them to drop me off to the um gas to the bank, but they have nothing to do with it. >> Okay. So, they got nothing to do with it. You just know them. Y'all not friends or whatever. Y just know each other. >> No, we friends, but they not they don't have anything to do with >> what's going on in here. You just ask them, "Hey, give me a ride." >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, >> in the end, she was charged with fraudulent use of personal identification, possession of a fictitious license, and impersonation. [music] Short-term gain is never worth long-term consequences. Once deception begins, it only leads to exposure, loss of freedom, and accountability that cannot be avoided.
