You got to keep your lungs record. >> I'm going to get your ID. Okay. I need They need to know who you are. >> On April 20th, 2025, officers were called to Walmart after receiving reports of a woman suspected of skip scanning items at the selfch checkckout. When they arrived, the suspect had already been taken to the loss prevention office. She got caught red-handed in both the literal and the figurative sense. >> Hi, my name's Corporal Tilford. What are we doing here today? >> I was purchasing these things and um I I guess I scanned the wrong items. >> A few of the wrong items. >> Okay. My job here is just to >> staring. I'm so embarrassed. >> Do you have Oh, they're they're one of some of them are training, so they're just watching. Um are you was your fingers okay? No, I I have a I have like my daily and I might I need to like I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. >> Yeah, cuz they're really swollen. >> I I know. Look how red my hands are, too. >> Sure enough. Um do And you don't have any physical ID on you? >> No, I don't. >> That's what my job here. My job here is just to identify you and then that's it. It's good enough. Um I use a fingerprint scanner. Um it's it's painless. Uh do you are you diabetic or anything? Have anything wrong with your fingers? >> Um I am diabetic. >> Okay. Do you poke which which finger do you poke? >> Um I I don't poke them. >> Oh, good enough. Okay. Um, so, um, I'll show you on this and basically I'm just going to check your ID. Um, I'm going to identify you. They're going to probably issue a trespass. Anything anything related to prosecution or any type of criminal, they'll probably handle. Um, because it's we weren't involved in that. Does that make sense? Um, I mean, we could try to get your name. Could you write down her name? What's What's We're We're going to write down the name that I'm just going to ask you your name. >> She seemed cooperative during questioning, but in reality, she completely avoided confirming her identity, using her medical issues as a shield. And worse, everything spiraled even further out of control. Brianna. >> Brianna. How do I spell that? Brianna. >> B R I O N A. >> And what's your date of birth? >> 81391. >> 81391. >> Mhm. >> Okay. 911. >> Yes, sir. >> And uh what what state is your ID out of? >> Um I actually don't have an ID. >> Do have you ever gotten any ID ever? >> No. >> How do you How would you >> I just I don't I don't leave my house much. >> That's probably why we don't have an ID. So So I'll show you how this works and we'll try to fingers here. It's kind of a cool little technology. Welcome to the future. Can I see your right finger? I feel like I'm going to Sir I feel like I'm going to >> Do you need medical? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> Do you want medical attention? >> Yes. >> Yeah. Could you call fire for an email? >> Do you want to sit You want to sit back? >> So tell for >> I'm just here. Can you breathe for me? You got some water. >> Okay. Is this something normal for you? >> Yeah. It's been getting worse and worse. >> How old are you? >> I'm 33. >> 33. Okay. Okay, I'm going to have medics come out and take a look at you. Okay. Do you want to sit down on the ground? >> Do you want to sit on the ground or do you want to sit back on this? You want to lay down? You want to lay down on your side over here? >> I'm just prevent you from falling down. >> What do you want to do? >> Or does it hurt? >> My just breathe. >> Yeah, just breathe. You want to sit down on the ground? Let's go and escort her to the ground and set back over here. >> Hey, man. Let's take your purse off just to make you more comfortable. Okay, >> there we go. >> Yeah, we'll go for it. >> I'm not going to take it from you. I'm not going to look through it. Let's just go ahead and move it over here. Okay. >> The more they questioned her identity, the worse her illness suddenly became, and everything grew blatantly fake when she began acting as if she were having convulsions, but her performance failed miserably. >> I'm going to sit with you, but I'm still going to check I'm still going to check your fingers, which makes it feel like we have a warning. Do >> you have seizures? We're just going to hold you here. Just don't I'm just going to sit here with you until medic here. Do you have a warrant? >> No. >> No. Or anything like that. Okay. But I'm I still have to ID you. So we're going to sit here with you until medics sit here. Okay. You want to go on your side? Can you go on your side? I'm going to put you on your side. >> I'm going to put you in the recovery position, ma'am. Okay. >> Go ahead and turn sideways. >> I need to see your hands. Relax. Relax. Take a breath. Take a breath. >> This is the recovery position so you can breathe. Okay. You got to keep your lungs. >> You're making me really nervous that you're not letting me have your fingers, which makes me >> which makes me think that you have a warrant. You're preventing this from happening. >> I need to see your ID. >> I need to fingerprint you. >> No, it's not. >> This is starting to be resistance and not a medical emergency. Okay. >> Cuz the fact that I wanted to print you the fact that I wanted to print you and this happened. I'm a little nervous that you're preventing me from not IDing you. So guess what? You can lay here fine. I'll just need to see your finger. Medics are going to need to know your medical history. Can I see your finger? >> Then we'll go to the other side. Corporal Tober, clear no record. >> I'm going to get your ID. Okay. I need They need to know who you are. >> Her seizure let her twist her body just enough to hide whichever hand the officers needed, and she even managed to argue back at them in the middle of her supposed episode. Everything only made it harder for the officers to help her. But you literally started that the moment I talked about >> Oh my god. >> You don't have to resist. Just stop. I need to know where you are. >> Can I please see your finger? Why are you preventing me from doing this? >> Hold on. Fine. We'll just ID her when she stopped doing her. >> Why are you preventing me from IDing you? >> Which what's the name she gave? >> Um >> Rihanna. Rihanna, why are you preventing me from my game you Why are you stopping me from drinking your fingerprints? >> Okay, well, you're okay now. So, we're just going to sit here and wait for you from doing that. We're still going to get it when she's on your face already. >> I mean, it's either a completely absolutely or I'm really surprised that the moment we started doing ID, this is happening and you're preventing me from looking at your finger. >> So, after after We'll follow her down to the hospital. We'll ID HER DOWN TO THE HOSPITAL. >> HEY, MA'AM, since you since you're having trouble with your hands, do you mind if I pull your ID out of your wallet? >> No. >> Oh, okay. >> No, that was her answer about giving her fingerprints. And the officer didn't even need a medical team. He already figured out what caused her seizure. >> This right here isn't isn't seizure resistance. It's on purpose resistance. >> Yeah. I've never seen a seizure. My family has epilepsy and my family has seizures and you'll be okay. So, we're just going to stop. You're just going to ride it out and we're going to prevent you from slamming your head on the ground. Okay. >> Well, the main thing is not to swallow your tongue and to be exactly where you're at. Are you overdosing on drugs? >> Do you need narcan? >> No. >> Got some in my pouch. >> Can I >> to help you with medical? The fire department is going to need to know who you are. >> Can I verify with your fingerprints >> or your ID? >> Or your ID. Can I take a look at your ID? Rihanna, >> why can't I find out who you are? >> Rihanna, I'm about 80% sure this is real, but about 20% believing that you're making a show. >> If uh get breathing changes or anything like that, we'll do CPR, but for now, there's nothing you can do at this point for a seizure to prevent her from slamming into anything. >> The fact that she's so resistance on her fingers, which is weird, but I'm not going to force. I am not able to force cuz it's not in our best settings. >> This was just a courtesy for them. >> So, they'll go with the information that we have. If we can't identify, we can't identify. >> After the medical team arrived, they confirmed she was completely fine. The officers then found another way to verify her identity, and that was when her lies finally surfaced. >> Nicole, >> you're Nicole. >> All right, Nicole. The fact that I'm going to ID you is I'm going to ID you through this. Okay. It's important that we do it. Okay. I believe that you're doing this because you don't want me to know who you are. So, I'm going to find out who you are. You can't do that. >> Okay. I'll take a picture and put it back. >> That's fine. I'll put it back. But I'm still going to ID you. I believe this has everything to do with you not wanting me to know who you are, Nicole. You also gave me a fake name. So, if I find that you don't go to the hospital, I'm going to take you to jail for lying to me. So, either you give me a real name or we're going to go to jail. Looks like you at the players club at at the So, she's Nicole. Well, you just you're not a Briana at all, Nicole. If you're having a medical emergency, you shouldn't be worried about me. table. >> Nicole, I'm here to identify who you are cuz now I believe that you're lying to me. So now I'm investigating obstruction. >> Hey, if you're having a medical then let me print you and let's take care of this. Can I print you real fast and fix this? Let me print you and we'll call it a good. >> But if you're having a medical emergency, you shouldn't be worried about me at all. >> Well, Nicole, I already have probable cause for your arrest cuz you just gave me a false name. So if you want to go that route, we can go that route. The woman turned out to be a perfect actress, still pretending to be a helpless victim just to avoid walking to the patrol car. All because of the real reason behind hiding her identity. >> Hey, Nicole, you have a $7,500 warrant. And now we know why this is happening. But now you're going now you're going strapped down because now we're forcing you to go to the hospital. >> Don't worry about it, Nicole. I don't need your fingers anymore. I identified who you were. How's it going, Mr. Bailey? As soon as I tried to fingerprint her, she had a seizure. And then we found out she has a $7,500 warrant. Well, well, well. But now I'm divi now I'm deciding if she's playing this game and causing this level of uh um of level of resistance on this, I'm thinking you're charging her for false statement. So, this is what we're doing. Nicole, you're going to the hospital and then you're going to go to jail because I think this is a show. I think you're lying to me and I think that uh that you did this because you didn't want me to know you were Nicole. Okay, >> Nicole, we're going to do this as an involuntary committal. >> Um, but I'm also going to charge you for giving me a false name cuz you lied to me. Okay, so when we get over here, I'm going to still pick your fingerprint. >> Nicole, I'm going to be straight with you. Nicole, I'm going to be straight with you. Look at me in the eyes. I promise you I will take you to jail unless you stop. >> I promise you I work until 7:00 a.m. and I will wait for you at the St. Francis. You need to stop and you need to tell us what's going on. You have a look on my body. >> Okay. Why did you lie to me about your name? >> Yes, you did. You said your name was Brianna and your name is Nicole. >> Oh my god. >> Medical medic doesn't doesn't really have a diagnosis for you. >> Open your eyes. Open your eyes. >> Really good. >> Okay, that's fine. And and we'll follow you there. Open your eyes. So, >> she was charged with theft and for obstructing the officers during the identification process. Actions meant to dodge accountability only make the fall harder later. Honesty from the start is always the safest path. Another victim, but all of it stem from this woman's own entitlement mindset. >> Scratching on the back and she's got blood on her mouth and I don't know what's really. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, we don't need this. >> You only need what? >> Take this off. On March 4th, 2022, officers were dispatched to a convenience store after reports of a woman attempting to steal from the premises. When they arrived, they immediately noticed the suspect's strange and unsettling behavior. >> Welcome me to the store so I can come to you about this. >> See, why don't you come talk to us outside about whatever's going on here? >> What are you doing? You can come. You can walk right out. Oh, one more. And I came to the store to buy some candy and she locked me in there. >> In here? >> Yeah. >> Did you buy the candy? >> She wouldn't let me. >> Why wouldn't she let you buy the candy? >> She thinks I'm stealing. >> Did you have money to pay for the candy? >> Yep. >> Then why would you think you're stealing? And I see you got money in your pocket. >> Yeah. Yeah, but >> were you guys having issues when you walked in? >> Not at all. >> The woman insisted that she was the one being wronged. But the story quickly shifted in another direction once officers spoke with the employee. >> Too a lot of time there. Right. >> Okay. >> She opened the door. I I went there to see just what she's doing. The refrigerator was open. She take two Red Bulls, right? And she was standing here. She grabbed she she grabbed these two chocolates in front of me. I came back. So she said she she tried to run away, right? She said me take this one chocolate. Take uh I am going I have taken only this one chocolate. I said no you have taken all the things from here. So why you are telling you have taken you have to pay me for two things are in her hand bread and these two chocolates right? So she is paying for me like she's stealing and she's running away. I said her why you are doing like that she's covering her face also totally she's covering her face so she she's telling me like that I said I said just stay why you are doing like that so she said no I have all the things in my hand already I said I I didn't see you when you came inside you were not having anything why you will buy only one chocolate from here when you are already you are having three things in your hand why you will come only for this one >> so she said she was going to pay for that >> she said uh only I have I have taken this one from here. >> So everything the suspect held in her hands turned out to be unpaid items from the store. Nothing belonged to her and the only thing she truly carried was her own deception. >> I just if I came by the candy, y'all set me free already. >> Hm. >> You set me free already. I was locked in the store. Thank you. >> Yeah, but they also called to say you were trying to steal from them. So we're not done looking into whatever >> they call you after I called you. >> I'm not sure. I don't take the calls. I just go to >> Oh. So, did you come out here and then lock the door or something or? >> Yeah. Yeah, I I just stand here and uh I just lock the door and uh I just call you then. >> All right. So, she said she was >> only had that one and she was going to pay for that one, but she had everything else in her hand. >> She had everything else in her hand. >> So, these all stuff are from our store. So, I said if you uh just show show me where you buy that one. >> No, no, no. I can only pay for that one. I have only buy she Anderson, >> do you want her arrested? Do you want her banned from here? >> What do you What do you want to do? >> No. If she has taken the stuff, right? Uh, whatever she has taken, she has to pay for that one because I am working here. So, that's why the reason is that. >> So, you went in there and you looks like you bought some Red Bulls. Not >> you had those from somewhere else. >> I have these. >> Okay. >> I go in look at candy. I wouldn't eat it. >> Mhm. >> But instead, she tasted. >> Okay. So, she took you. So, you didn't eat anything. You didn't open anything. >> From the woman's evasive behavior to her slow, dragging way of speaking with officers. Everything only deepened their suspicion. They began to wonder whether something else had been influencing her. >> Are you okay? Are are you experiencing any mental health issues today, >> Lauren? >> I'm under attack. >> What' you say? >> I'm under attack. >> You're under attack. >> I'm under attack. >> Okay. What does that mean? >> I tried to get some candy. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Well, when my boss is done talking to them inside, we'll have, you know, >> I mean, I don't have the candy. >> Mhm. >> So, what is it that Well, I have the candy. I just can't grab it. >> I don't That's This is why I'm confused. I guess you're saying that you went to grab candy and you're going to pay for it. And then I don't Then that's where I'm confused. I What else happened in there? >> So, she has one Red Bull open cuz the other one's not open. I can see it from here. >> She opened that one in front of >> Okay. And so if she can't pay for it, what do you want? >> Uh I needed a case against you because I needed the money back. That's all because it's been happening several times. So uh last two visit customer, I let them go. So this time uh it is happening sir. So I need to pay. If she's not paying, I would like to go for a case. >> Okay. All right. And then you want her banned from the store? >> Yes, also. >> Okay. And that was exactly what the store wanted the woman to face after her actions. Meanwhile, the suspect remained completely unaware, still believing every part of the story she had created for herself. >> I knew that from in there. >> I couldn't buy anything. >> We're not getting a lot of sense. >> Yeah, >> I couldn't buy anything. I couldn't buy anything. She wouldn't let me. >> Okay. She says she wants you if you pay for your >> I got these walk with me to the same store. >> She She said they they said you came in here with with nothing in your hands. >> What? Look at the camera. >> Okay. Where did you get those from? >> Walk with me. >> No. Tell me where you got them from. >> I said the store. >> What store? >> The store. >> So if you want to pay for your one Red Bull >> I didn't know. I already had these. >> Then they don't want to. They don't want to press charges. >> You're not free to go. You're not free to go. >> I already had these. Y'all not doing that to me. I already have. >> Lauren, stop. Let's just have a conversation. >> Okay. >> I don't want this to spill on me. >> Okay. So, please let it go. >> Stop. Lauren, stop. >> Why are you doing this? >> Drop everything out your hands right now. Don't Don't fight me. I'm telling you, you won't win. Don't do it. Don't fight me. >> Okay, I'm not fighting. >> Okay, I'm not fighting. >> I'm telling you. >> Stop tensing up on me. >> I'm not listen to what I'm telling you. Okay, give her your hand. >> Perhaps the woman was obsessed with playing the victim. From initially accusing the store of attacking her to the moment everything was uncovered, she escalated into even more erratic actions toward the officers. >> Stop going away. Stop. >> Hey, I'm recording this. Everybody Hey, >> stop. She's not going anywhere. We'll pull the sleeve up. Turn around to her side. I think she's having some kind of mental break or something. >> No, >> I'm You want me to call for a 105? She's got like scratches on her neck and she's got blood on her mouth and I don't know what's really what's going on. >> Call >> Would you rather stay like this or sit up? >> I need a black doctor. >> Okay, there is one right here. >> I don't have blood on my mouth. Why she seeing blood on my mouth? You robbing me? >> No, I'm not robbing you, Lauren. I'm just checking your pockets for any weapons. >> Look, I got something in my pocket to protect me so I don't get Don't me for it. All right, >> you got it. >> Although things seem to spiral further out of control, it appeared this was exactly what the woman wanted, believing she might gain some civil rights benefits from being in this situation. >> And then this is where we're at, Lauren. >> Gross. If I'm going to the hospital, I like to choose it. >> We're not saying that >> cuz now y'all trying to say I'm mentally ill. >> Well, you're acting like you might need >> Well, this isn't normal behavior. >> We were willing to go talk to the store where you got you're saying you got your >> walk with me. >> We don't we don't do walk with me. You're going to have to tell us where it was and you didn't want to do that. >> Store. >> There's quite a few of those in this town, >> you know. So, you know, I paid for it. They already say they said you came in here without it. >> Who said the lady who locked me in the store? I called you and you arrested me. >> You're a police officer. >> Mind the arrest? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, we don't need this. >> You don't need what? >> Take this off. >> It's up to you. I'm only doing it again cuz you asked me to. >> Take it off. >> The woman was ultimately charged with theft and resisting arrest. Attempting to deceive and resist authorities only worsens the outcome. Honesty and cooperation can prevent legal consequences from escalating. Even more astonishing, the woman faked a seizure to the point that her pants fell down. >> No. No. You're not doing this. You're not doing this. Mike, grab her. >> Retail theft. I told you that already. >> What the? On June 27th, 2024, police responded to a report about a woman connected to multiple thefts, all linked to a vehicle officers recognized from earlier incidents. When they arrived at the scene, the suspect immediately appeared visibly tense at every action the police took. >> Uh uh uh. Don't close the door. Don't close the door. Don't close the door. >> Okay. Hit me. That's battery to peace officer. Step out. >> I'm not >> Okay. >> Just grab your purse. Step out of the vehicle. >> Step out of the vehicle, ma'am. I'm not going to ask you again. Step out. Step out of the car. >> Actually, can you check? Can I check it? No. >> Give me the car keys. >> Huh? >> Give You're going to give me the car keys. You're not getting back in the vehicle. >> Okay. Can you check in on Huh? There you go. >> That security tag, though. Listen, you're going to start being We know who you are already. >> Can you tell me your full name? >> Shakita. >> It's okay. Listen. Listen, ma'am. >> I just need you to relax. I'm just putting on my pants. I want you to know that. Listen. Listen. I just need I'm just going to run this. Okay. We've gotten a lot of complaints from the store about thefts. Okay. >> The vehicle matches the description of the vehicle that's been constantly uh robbing this place. Okay. >> Yes, ma'am. Listen. Listen. There's a couple things we have to verify first. Do you understand? All right. >> All right. So, I just need you to take a deep breath. Calm down. Let me run this. I'll verify that it's you and then we'll kind of go from there. Okay. go back and pick my clothes first. >> Just just just wait one second. Ma'am ma'am, if nothing comes out of this, you're free to go on your way. I just need you to calm down. Okay. >> The woman clearly displayed a fearful demeanor as if she worried about being caught for something. And the situation seemed to escalate as she engaged in multiple suspicious behaviors. >> Why are you parked in a handicap spot? >> I don't know. I just >> parked. >> What? >> I just parked. I didn't even think. >> You didn't think? No. Do >> you got any other kind of identification on you by chance? >> No. >> No. This is it. >> Cuz you understand this is an identification card, right? Same driver's license. >> It's identification card. >> Can Am I open able to open the door? >> 10. So you give us 20. >> Am I just >> so I could get my other ID. >> Ma'am, >> we have to kind of ask you these questions first, okay? Because there's >> there's a lot of implications to what can and cannot happen. You know what I mean? That's why we have to run our course and why we approach you in the manner that we did. Okay. >> All right. This is an identification card. This isn't a driver's license. You're aware of that, right? >> Yeah. Okay. >> You understand that it's an ID card, not a driver's license. >> And you drove here. >> Yes. >> Okay. You You see? You understand how none of this is making sense to us? You don't have a driver's license. You drove here. You parked in the handicap spot. >> I'm I apologize. I just >> I mean, it's not something to apologize. We're just trying to understand the train of thought. You understand what I'm saying? >> I was just trying to go in and out and cuz I just um my outfits for my trip. That's it. I should have just >> This suggests that the woman was also aware that her actions were problematic. Yet, she offered no explanation for them, which meant she would not be allowed to leave as easily as she wished. >> That's what I should be. >> Okay. Well, I'm letting you know right now at the moment, you're detained. Okay? You're not free to go. >> But I need you to understand that. Okay. >> Okay. >> Cuz if you had decided to start the vehicle and drive off, that's >> why would I drive off with y'all right here? I wasn't going to drive. >> Cuz you were trying to get into the vehicle. I You know what I mean? >> Ask me my ID. >> Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. But you don't have to sit inside the vehicle for that. >> I won't go I just give us just give us a second. All right. >> But what am I being detained for? because we have an ongoing active investigation regarding the Lululemon this vehicle that matches the exact same description. >> But is this the exact same like >> it's the vehicle? >> It's the vehicle. >> It's the vehicle in question. >> Okay. >> Okay. But that's not my vehicle. This >> I understand that. >> Can I Can y'all write my phone to me so I could call somebody then? >> Just give us a second. >> Okay. >> How old are you? >> Huh? >> How old are you? I started too. >> I'm one trying to be like, "Can I sit down?" >> You can have a seat on the curb your life. Yeah. >> Wait, you have You can't sit down then, right? >> Huh? >> Cuz you had that procedure done. Can you sit down? >> Yeah, I could sit down, but like on like soft. >> I just don't know if you can. That's why. >> Huh? >> I don't know if you can cuz you told me the procedure done. >> Yeah, but like how I sit is I don't want to show you. The police noticed clear inconsistencies in the woman's statements, and the situation became even more apparent when they received a verified call from the store. >> Yeah, they found out. Um, >> are you okay? >> You're like bending over. I want to make sure you're okay. >> Yo, yeah, that's definitely her. We got her. >> What is the investigation for? >> One second. >> What is the investigation for? >> It's for retail theft. >> Good. She wants to go to the hospital. >> Ma'am, could you tell me your um your phone number? Cuz they want to just verify that it's you and not somebody else. >> I got a new phone. >> You got a new phone? Okay. >> New phone number. >> Did you get that phone call? >> No. >> All right. >> Just got to verify. That's all. >> That what? >> That the phone comes back to you. You're not lying to us. >> Ly all about a phone. >> There's a lot going on. That's why we're trying to make sure it's not you. >> So, I just want to I'm not going anywhere. I promise you. >> Yeah. It's a positive idea. Okay. Tanner right now. Put the tanner and then we're going to call rescue. Okay. >> Ma'am, I need you to step over here, please. I need you to step over. I'm going to call rescue for you. >> Okay. >> Let me just put this in here. >> I'm going call rescue. That way you can I don't want >> I'm sorry. >> You're fine. >> I'm saying to him, he looking like >> Oh, sorry. >> I'm sorry. >> You're detained at this moment. He said the everything ET he has receipts for which he's looking for right now. But he said that he took two backpacks is what he told me. So I'm pitching him out right now. He said all I did was take two backpacks. >> Okay. How much money did he bring with him today? How much he bring with him today? A thousand maybe? >> $1,000 in >> cash or card? >> Officers pressed her about the stroller packed with tagged items and no receipts. She quickly blamed her husband, claiming he paid for everything with $1,000 in cash. A story that only raised more doubts. >> So, every time he went into a store, you guys, what did you do? >> What did he do? What did I do? >> What did you do? >> Walk my kids around and see what they wanted. I want to be in two stores. >> Okay. So, you were So, like you said, none of the cameras of the stores will show you with him at any point. >> No. >> In the store? >> No. >> Okay. >> I mean, that's a lot of merchandise and a lot of that stuff has the security still on it. Did you not think that was weird why it had security? >> I didn't look at anything he bought. He was like all excited. I bought this for so and so. I bought this for so weird that >> So, I thought that he had money. He bought it. >> Did you find it weird? >> So, I didn't think any of it at all. Did you find it weird that he brought the merchandise to you not in bags? >> They were in bags. >> Well, when we were standing out here at the restroom, he walked up and none of the merchandise he had in his hand was a bag. >> When he walked up, I didn't see what he walked up, but every other time he's walked up to me, he had to have bags. >> She blamed her husband to save herself, but the truth was about to turn against her. Watch how security proved he was never the thief. So, real quick, just to kind of hear where I'm going, um, you saw her in the stroller walk in with the stroller and all those bags. >> No, no, the stroller was over at the restrooms when I first clocked her. I was walking up uh from uh north deeper into the park approaching the restrooms and the I was in the street approaching restroom on my left. >> You saw her take from the store that back? >> Yes. So, what I saw is I saw her with the stroller. I saw her lead the stroller across the street, walk from the stroller into the store. Since I had observed there was a lot of merchandise in the store, I thought I'd walk just walk into the store as well just to observe what she did. I observed her approach the display for the backpack. So we sling the back over pack over her right shoulder and observe her exit the stroller without paying and go directly back to the stroller. When she was at the stroller, she took possession of it, tried to bag up the backpack that she had not paid for in a bag that was hanging from the stroller. >> Gotcha. Um, so when you went, so you said you you left the store, you walked over to the restrooms um to check on your kids. >> Well, not to the restroom, to my stroller. >> To the but by the restroom, right? So you walked over there um and you to check on the kids, right? >> Well, to get the card out of my my her card out of her bag on there. >> Oh, that's right. Yeah. >> And then once I saw the dad was missing, I'm like more focused on where why do you need my kids? Security confirmed she walked out with the backpack and tried to hide it in the stroller bag. Flustered and defensive, she called it a misunderstanding, but her shifting story only made things worse. >> That's how I am. I've never stole anything in my whole life. >> Is he still out there? >> Yeah, investigator. >> Okay, I'm going to go talk to him. Um, I might be more inclined if he admits to taking all of it. to take in instead of the kids. >> That's understandable. >> Just because >> I was getting the same sense that maybe he was doing more of this killing, but Maxer could steal. >> I still think she she I think she's she's a part of it because she >> she stole one of >> her so-called clean record was about to collapse as officers concluded she had taken part in the theft herself, even if her husband might have been the one behind it all. >> This time you're under arrest. Are you serious? My daughter's competition. >> Can you leave her property with her husband? >> So, I guess something I didn't do. >> Uh, well, I mean, you did walk out of the store without paying for merchandise bags. I can pay for it, but I have money. >> Well, that that's the problem, ma'am, is that after the fact, after the crime's committed, everybody wants to uh to, you know, rethink their initial decision. >> I missed my daughter's competition. >> I've never been in ANC. It feels so weird. >> I'm just embarrassed for my kid. >> When officers informed her of the arrest, she broke down, begging for another chance. But the decision was made. The law doesn't change just because she regretted it too late. She was charged with thirdderee grand theft for stealing over $1,100 in goods, a felony carrying up to 5 years in prison, probation, and thousands in fines. This case is a harsh reminder. Think before you act because one reckless choice can turn a simple mistake into a lifelong regret. >> Those are her dirty shoes and those are our shoes. And as she concealed in her bag, I think of a a shirt. >> I have words for what? >> I said shoplifting. Disorderly conduct resisting arraying or evading an officer. >> On March 18th, 2024, police were alerted to a shoplifting case unfolding inside a Walmart. The suspect, a blonde woman in a yellow top, had slipped extra clothing and jewelry into her bag. But she had no idea that every move she made was already being watched by both the store manager and the officers. >> Those are her dirty shoes and those are our shoes. And then she concealed in her bag, I think, a a shirt. And I'm not sure, he still has the pants on them, but I think she has jewelry as well. But I didn't see her. I But what I did see was that those shoes are ours. >> We got two more coming. Let's look into those. So, I don't know what you guys want to do. I'm going to get a bit dizzy. So, do you want to approach on the floor and just >> Uh, no. We're going to need to have her actually try to exit because at this point she could try to say like while still going to pay for them. So, she would have to bypass all the points still. >> Okay. Okay. No worries. >> Okay. Try to see where she's at. She's in the back right now. >> Yeah. Hopefully, they're almost done. >> Through the surveillance screens, we could see how skilled she was as she repeatedly slipped into blind corners to avoid being seen. I just didn't know cuz sometimes um when PD shows up they're like, "Oh, we're really busy, so we're just going to go perch on the floor, get stuff back, and blah blah." >> But yeah, so I just never know, you know. >> Which one is that? >> I mean, we can hang for a little >> But I mean, >> so hopefully hopefully they'll be on their way out. I'm not sure. >> And it's just her so far. >> It's it's her. He's with her, but >> he >> And then >> you don't have anything for sure on him, though. Uh, no. She's the one that's concealing everything. >> Where is she? Where is she? >> Oh, there she is. >> You guys know who she is? >> No, I don't. >> I've seen the hair. >> I mean, I if any have her on the shoes. Those are her shoes. So, >> we're just trying to see if she's going to have to try to dip. >> Where are her old shoes at? >> Right here. Right there. Where'd she leave them? >> She left them at the shoe in the shoe aisle. She like put them behind other shoes. >> Okay. >> So, I said, "Well, if anything, I know she has stuff in that purse that belong to us, but I but that in fact like if I have anything and those are ours, so I have her on her shoes." >> With the swapped shoes, the woman did not stop her professional behavior. She noticed an officer nearby and then acted as if to erase all evidence of her wrongdoing. Every move had already been fully observed by the store manager. There's an officer out there, a GM, because I think they're going to walk out. So, but the gentleman's paying, but she has stuff. She has her shoes. She some of these cameras aren't working. >> Just stay right there. One on 32. And it's a female with the yellow. But I have the police. >> Yeah. Checking out right now. If you want to wait for like in the vestibule just so that way it's like undisputed. >> Where is she? Where'd she go? >> Go to negative. James, do you see the female? There she is. >> Okay, she's gonna >> They might see the officer right there. So, >> I think they might have saw you. >> Yeah. Oh, look. Look, look. She's going to put her purse down. If you want, just maybe wait outside. I'll let you know if they start heading out. Oh, she's going to leave her purse. She dumped her purse. Okay. >> Yeah, she dumped it. Hold on. Yeah, she ditched her. >> Uh, no. She She's ditching her purse. They're going to walk out. Hold on. >> She ditched her purse and seasonal. Can you please go get it? >> Yeah, she's out of shoes. They're heading towards the exit right now. >> She still has a female. >> At this point, the woman confidently stepped toward the exit wearing the new shoes, unaware that police were waiting for her. when approached. Beyond her denials, her attitude was also strikingly noticeable. How's it going, buddy? >> You didn't even look at the pictures when I came in. >> No, no, no. We have your old shoes. We got your old shoes right now on your back. Okay. >> I'm wearing the same shoes I'm wearing. >> Okay. >> Well, we have your old shoes in the asset protection office. So, you're detainer now. Okay. >> Under arrest. >> You're just detainer right now. >> That's not an empty. >> You are just detainer right now. answer. >> Bye-bye. >> Mhm. >> You're good to go, buddy. You paid. >> That's my husband. He's not leaving me. >> Okay. >> Well, we're going to go to the asset protection office. So, you can wait outside. >> He can't come with me. Then I'm not going. I don't trust I have to go into a room full of men. He got me. You're insane. >> My camera's on. >> I don't care. >> Okay. Well, there's a females in there. >> The the camera was on when you guys meet on that guy's neck, too. I didn't hear on anyone's neck. >> Nobody else did either. >> Who? Who's that? >> That's why he's in jail. >> Who's that? >> Valenuela. >> Who didn't on his neck? >> The woman clearly refused to cooperate at all. Even when she entered the asset protection office and saw her bag again, she showed no sign of surprise, revealing the full extent of her acting skills. >> So, they have you on camera swapping out your shoes. Hey, can I see putting items in your purse? Okay. >> Um, I didn't agree with that. >> Okay. No, I understand. We're not worried about that. >> I was using it as a shopping bag. >> Okay. >> Right now is just for you. >> That's fine. Can I have my ticket so I can go? >> Okay. We're going to get done when we're done. Okay. You don't run this. >> All right. Well, then are you going to pick up my daughter? >> No. >> You want You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer. Have them present with you while you're doing question. You cannot afford a lawyer. One will be appointed to represent you for any question if you wish. You can decide anytime to exercise these rights and answer any questions or make any statements. You understand? Am I being put under arrest? >> Very now you are. >> I thought I was being detained. >> No, you are detained. But we have video. Now you're >> Yeah. Now you're arrested because we do have you on video footage. Swapping your shoes and trying to walk out of the store. >> That's a $10 ticket. Like it's a $10. >> Okay. Well, actually, I can't take you to jail. Okay. So, you want to talk about what happened? >> I just need shoes. Okay. >> What's your name? Even more astonishing, when the police checked her records, the woman herself was shocked to learn that she had a series of outstanding warrants. >> So, you're going to jail today? Actually, >> I have warrants for what? >> I said shoplifting, >> disorderly conduct, resisting, arresting, or evading an officer. >> So, whatever incident you had prior, you didn't show up to court. It sounds like >> they could just be simple FTAs. >> I've never had a Okay. >> Well, it comes back to your social security number. So >> it goes back to my my name and social security number. >> Yeah, I ran you by I ran you by your >> social game court. >> Okay, regardless, you're going to take it in court. Sort with them. We're not going to hear during discernment it. It's in your name. It's to your social. It's for you. Am I going to have a bite? >> That's We'll find out right now. >> You sure you don't want to take your >> Yeah, those are both people. >> Mhm. >> What's your husband's name? >> Joseph. >> Okay. All right. >> I have a warrant. Invisible. Call my mom. will post my bond. Mom will post my bond. It's for some bull immunity resisting and uh >> disorderly conduct. >> Back in 2018 garbage. >> Do you have no sticks for me, ma'am? >> No, ma'am. >> All right, cool. >> All right. The woman was booked on a warrant and faced an additional charge of shoplifting. Remember, even small thefts leave a clear trail. Trying to act clever or hide evidence won't stop the law from catching up. Next, the couple familiar with the officers from church would soon meet them behind bars. They hurt my own. I'm >> trying to get it off. >> Oh, okay. >> I paid for everything I have. I got money. See, mom steal. >> On August 17th, 2023, police were dispatched to Burlington Coat Factory after receiving a report of a shoplifting incident. The two suspects included one man and one woman. When officers arrived at the scene, the man immediately ran upon seeing them, which led police to secure the entire area. >> Get on the ground. >> Lay down. I'm lay down. I'm laying down. I'm laying down in the valley. >> Lay on your face. I got contact at top of the partner. Lay down. I ain't going to do anything. >> Lay down on your face. I'm not going to run, BRO. I >> GET ON YOUR FACE. I'M NOT >> GET ON YOUR FACE. >> I'M not going to run for you, bro. Okay. >> I know you back. >> Put your hands behind your face. >> I know you. I'm not going to run for you, bro. >> All right, Jason. >> I know you, bro. >> I'm not going to run for you, bro. >> All right. >> You know what I'm saying? I know, bro. I'm not going to run for you. >> Put your hand face >> from the valley. Come on, bro. >> I know you, bro. I'm not going to run for you, bro. >> If any other try to run for you, >> but you ran. >> I didn't know who you were. >> Okay. I'm 1095 with Jason. >> Where the issue? >> You shoplifted. >> You shoplifted where? >> Burlington. They just called. That's why. >> I ain't even. Come on, bro. >> Also, does he still have locals? You get them locals? You get no warrants taken care of? >> What warrants? >> Okay. >> I don't know. What warranty you talking about? >> Okay, we'll check. See if you can still got You had some a little while back. What's that beeping sound? >> What you mean? >> Okay, we're going to come off this backpack. I can >> Where'd you get this backpack from there? >> I've been here my backpack. Okay. So, if I go in there, they going to say that you got it from there. >> Yeah. I behind that. >> So, if I go in, they're going to say you got it. >> And I got a pair of shoes right there. Yeah. >> Okay. >> I did get a pair of shoes right there. >> Okay. You know what I mean? >> Okay. >> I'm sorry for >> I bet you got You going to have to take that. >> Yeah. >> In fact, the man was quite familiar to the officers because they went to the same church. From the condition of the backpack he was carrying, the police also discovered something that exposed his lie. >> Bro, what? Come on. You got the You got the tag on. I'm saying, bro, I been I been I big got that bag, though. >> Come on, man. >> I been got the bag. >> They take it off at the register, >> bro. I been got the bag. Okay, let me see if I can pop this. >> You know what I'm saying? I just told you I got some shoes. >> I think I got some shoes. Lay right there. Open it. >> I've been bad. >> What's your birthday? >> Huh? >> What's your birthday? >> Face the wall so I can try to get this off. >> Or I'm not going. >> What's your birthday? >> Yeah. All right. Let me get >> All right. Hey, I'm going to try to take handcuff off. We're going to get it off. Face the wall. I can't >> Go ahead, bro. Go ahead, bro. I'm not trying to run. >> Face the wall, man. >> How hurt my arm, bro. >> I'm trying to get it off. >> Oh, bro. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Damn. I'm not trying to Oh, >> put this one back. >> Yeah. >> Put this one back. >> It is. You got it, bro. I ain't trying to >> I know you. >> I ain't trying to resist. >> Okay. >> I'm not trying to resist on you, man. I'm not trying to resist. Why she's grabbing my arm? >> It's okay. >> Look, come on, bro. >> We going to put your hand. >> I go to the same church you go to, man. Next thing, man. I do go to your father to church, bro. Okay. All right. Got all the extra grab me, man. >> Case the wall so I can put this handcuff on, >> man. Can you tell my um >> I'm just going to run for you, man. >> I know. I'll hand you. >> All right. Now, do me a favor. You want to go sit in the car? >> Okay. Or actually, does one of y'all mind transporting? Come on. All right. >> Okay. Well, we going to see. I got to go back there and find out. I got to go back there and see what they said you took. >> It should be all good. >> They ain't see me take nothing. >> Okay. >> I haven't talked to him. You took off. >> At this point, another officer arrived at the store to make contact with the remaining suspect. Based on the statements the police gathered, including the suspect's denial. It seemed that this was a planned theft. >> Okay. Were they definitely together or >> she saw them last time? >> Okay. Has she been stealing today? Do you know the female? No. Hello. >> We've got a friend of yours in custody around the corner. Um, do you have your license with you or an ID? >> Yeah. Why? >> Um, well, the store is saying that he was shoplifting. >> I'm saying why you got to have my ID? >> Yeah. So, they're saying that uh you've been with him while he done it before. >> I have not been with him. Like, >> I need your ID. >> Okay. Like what? I paid for everything I have. I got money. See, mom steal. >> Thanks. So, obviously they have pretty good cameras. I haven't asked them about it yet, but do do you have anything that you're not supposed to have that we need to get back to them? No, >> sir. I bought this stuff from Five Below right here. >> Okay. >> And I was going to go up there and buy my stuff from here. I haven't. This stuff came from Five Below. >> Okay. >> All this came from Five Below. You can check my purse. >> Okay. You said I'm I can check it. >> I mean I mean it's my right. Right. But yeah, I mean I obviously haven't done anything wrong. This >> Did you buy those from >> They came from Five and Below. >> Okay, >> you can ask them to watch the camera. I have done nothing wrong. >> All right. >> Even when she admitted her actions, her attitude was notable. She showed no sign of embarrassment and she even made statements accusing the police. >> Nothing because of somebody else. >> I'm just telling you what we have is that he was shoplifting. >> Okay. But yeah, I feel I'm going to get my purse back cuz y'all being y'all been harassing me for no reason. >> All right. >> Like I haven't done that. >> You forgot what was in this, didn't you? Forget what was in this. Is that what it was? >> No, I didn't forget what was in it. >> Okay. >> I knew what was in here. But y'all harassing me for no reason. >> Okay. >> Ain't nothing but a bowl. Got no drugs in there. So >> we wouldn't do that with you for no reason. So there's a reason. So it's not harassing you for no reason. We're getting out with you for a specific reason. Well, we have to figure that out. Um, so you're not under arrest right now, but you're just going to be detained. Okay? So just put your hand behind your back. >> Why? For what? Look, don't do that. I'm pregnant, so be easy. >> Okay. Be easy with you. >> I'm not going to lie to y'all. >> Okay. I appreciate that. >> Well, I'm being detained, though. >> Um, so we can search your purse the rest of the way and um, ask them about the rest of the stuff. >> That stuff came from five and below. Do that. >> And you were going to buy this stuff, you said? >> Yes, sir, I was. >> Okay. Did he take any tags off stuff? >> No, I did not. >> No. Did he take tags off anything? >> I don't know. We didn't even come in the store. Honestly, our office didn't know he was in here. >> Right after the woman was taken away, the employee also revealed additional details and evidence showing that this was not the first time these individuals had done this. >> Yeah. August 4th. I took a picture of him in my phone. He did it on August 4th, too. Filled that red book bag up. >> Okay. Well, let's go ahead and get the details of all this. Is that wallet belonging to you guys? >> No, >> it's not. >> But the bag, the shoes, everything else? >> Yeah. Everything else? Yeah. still got the tag. >> Okay, so >> Okay, >> let's go get a print out for all that so >> log that in the report. >> They're probably like, uh, you know, >> what? >> No, you're fine. I'm saying they're probably like, uh, there's two police sitting at the counter. I don't know if we want to be here right now. >> Yeah, none of that. Okay, let me just finish going through her purse to make sure, but like you said, I'm sure if she did have something, she would have just put it back. >> The woman was given another chance by the police to be honest about what had happened, but the outcome was still not as expected. >> Burlington Coke back here with you and Jason. >> I I swear to God, I didn't Did y'all see the camera? I didn't even know he was in there to be honest. I swear on my kids, we was not together today. >> Okay, so if I go and review the cameras, he's going to show I got you. If I go and review the cameras, is it going to show you putting anything in your bags and taking them out? >> No, sir. It's not. >> Okay. >> That's on my kids. >> Okay. >> I got money in my wallet. I was going to buy that's why I had the red shirt and the blue jeep pant with shoes. I was going to buy that outfit. >> So, you and Jason weren't together. You don't know anything about it. Is that what you're saying? >> On my We'll go back and review the camera footage and see. Secondly, um you didn't take anything? >> No, sir. I did not. >> Okay. So, you didn't take anything and put it back? >> No, sir. >> Okay. The stuff that from Five and Below. Did you buy that? >> Yes, I did. I had my receipt in my pocket. >> What is this? >> This supposed to be a Zanex. Somebody had gave it to me and I I wasn't trust me. So, I didn't never take it. And then I forgot my >> What's the other stuff? The multiolor stuff. >> Supposed to be a dance. I don't know. Is that yours? >> I never did take it. Somebody gave it to me. >> And I I'm so I didn't take it. >> How many months pregnant are you? >> A little over nine weeks. So, maybe almost two two months. About two months and change. You and Jason still together? >> No, I'm still not. >> Okay. >> Don't try to hang up cuz I'm pregnant. I just thought I was pregnant. >> By him or somebody else? Okay. >> This is my fifth child. >> I got you. I could charge you with both of those things, but since you're pregnant and you're cooperating, I'd like to work something out. Is there some a way you think you are you on paper? Yes, sir. >> You think you could help me out with a little bit of information? Maybe >> I might want >> I might have a couple questions. >> Okay. You got a phone number? >> Yes, sir. Okay. So, if I let you go, can you call me tomorrow and we can talk more? >> Cuz I mean, if we talk about you don't want to cooperate, which is You're right. You don't have to. >> The man was charged with shoplifting, resisting a merchant or loss prevention officer, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement. This woman showed no shame for her actions and even tried to blame the police. Despite being given multiple chances to be honest, she continued to lie, proving that her behavior was deliberate and unrepentant. Next, what happens when the family duo goes shoplifting together? >> Just like that. Let go of your phone. Stay right there. Stay right there. Don't turn around. >> Let go of your phone. >> Mom, both of us is going to jail right now. You got to get us out. Okay. >> On October 16th, 2024, officers were working undercover at a busy mall to investigate rising retail theft. By sheer coincidence, a theft unfolded inside a Nike store. The suspect slipped a pair of shoes into her bag and tried to walk out. Officers immediately gave chase. Here's what happened next. >> All right, do me a favor. Stay right there. Put your hands down. >> Just like that. Let go your phone. Stay right there. Stay right there. Don't turn around. >> Damn. >> Let go of your phone. >> And all the store. >> Okay. It's no problem to get me stuff back. It's no problem. I don't have to do that. >> Thank you, sir. >> I'm not running from nowhere. >> I appreciate that. All right. So, as you understand right now, you're detained for criminal investigation. Okay. >> Okay. Fine. Can y'all hear me trying to change my pants? >> Literally, cuz the way I grabbed me like I was like my Uh, make sure you put on some gloves. Okay. >> It's in the bag. >> He's not paying, but he's actually paying for stuff. >> He's paying for stuff right now. All right. He's with you. >> That's supposed to be my mom, but he's actually paying for >> Can you stay out here with me? The evidence was enough. She couldn't hide the truth behind her figned calm, but the suspect didn't stop there. Officers quickly intercepted the other man as he tried to play innocent, walking past them. >> Yeah, I saw her stuff the dunks and then Hey my guys, stay right there. Stay right there. Hand behind your back here. Walk toward the wall. Walk toward the wall. Keep walking. Keep walking. >> What's going on? You're right now for criminal investigation. All right. Stay a second cuz they walked into the jail with my clap your hands together. All right, man. Step over this way. Let me talk down here. >> All right, Raina, you're detained for criminal investigation, man. All right. You know this girl right behind us? >> Yeah, that's my stepdaughter. >> Your stepdaughter? All right, man. So, it seems like there's a theft that just happened. >> Seems like involves you guys. >> Okay. What they got to do with me? >> Cuz you guys are together, man. >> Okay. We We together. >> They're reviewing cameras, man. All right. If it's nothing, I'll get you out of the cable. We'll be done here. All right. That's all it is, man. All right, man. No weapons on you. Anything like that, man. I know about >> you have an ID on you. >> Um, yeah, >> I got it, man. It's in this pocket area. >> Should be in my >> That's on your phone. >> I'll just go with your name instead if it's not in. >> That's all right, man. You said that's your daughter. >> That's my stepdaughter. >> That's your stepdaughter, right? >> What? So, what took place? So, it looks like there's they observed somebody stealing from inside, man. All right. I'll be truthful with you, Mr. Ward. All right. So, somebody ended up stealing some merchandise walking out due to the fact that both of you guys are together. They're trying to determine if it's one of you guys, if it's both of you guys, while both you guys are detained. All right. >> No, it ain't me. >> All right. >> Back to the woman. Even with the evidence in hand, officers decided to see if she would be honest about what happened. It quickly became clear they shouldn't have expected it. So, how did you obtain these items? >> Yeah. Um, I went in the store. >> You what? >> I went in the store and pay the items. That's how I >> So, you took the items. >> Yeah. And what is that used for? >> That's just >> the pl the little pliers. What are they? >> That's just the normal part. That's not used for anything. I don't need it for anything to be used for anything. >> How many uh pairs did you take overall? >> That was just the two. Like I don't Yeah, I don't steal. Like I don't steal this. >> This morning? No, this morning that was that was somebody else with me. My son was me, but somebody else with me. I didn't take those. I promise you. >> I have no idea yet. No, they not in my car. My son was with me when I went here, but we didn't take that stuff. It was somebody else with me. >> It was somebody else with me and that person have that merchandise.
