The man fled first, and the woman attempted to escape in her car, but failed. This was what happened next after officers took her into custody. What's your name? I'm >> Theresa. You got a license in here? >> Yeah, it's your flash drive on you. >> Yeah. I might have been with someone that steal, sir. >> Who was for this? >> Who was you with? >> My husband. >> All right, let's come back here. I just dropped him off because he's always on some messy like that. >> I Where am I? I'm in. >> Where is he at? >> He's somewhere up in Mapleton. I dropped him off in Mapleton. >> So, what happened at the liquor store? >> I don't know, sir. When and what are you talking about? >> And Powder Springs. By the Publix. >> Powder Springs. By the Publix. Powder Springs. Powder Springs is big. You got to tell me, sir. So, did he feel something? >> I don't know, sir. >> Why would you say that then? >> Cuz I know what he does on to get money sometimes. I know that whether he's I'm in a car with him or not. That's why I wanted to get the away from him. That's exactly why I know he's going to get me in trouble. >> How long you been with him? >> Almost two years. And it ain't nothing good. >> You You ain't got away from it at all. >> You still around them, >> right? I'm I'm just trying to work it out. That's it. >> You can't worry. You can't work nothing out. Once somebody will get you in trouble. You got to think about it just like this. >> You never got me in trouble, but we always be in situations. >> Been 4K twice. >> What do you mean doing what? I didn't steal anything. I got me stealing. >> Yeah, that's you. >> We can show you right now. Are they right there? Put that ball on your head. That's you. That's why you should stole that. >> They they file a police report and said you stole it. >> And they'll give you a bag if you brought it in there. >> You got um a receipt. >> Everything is on my phone. >> You got a receipt on your phone? >> If you brought it, you're supposed to store the bag. >> So, you got a receipt on your phone? >> Possibly. >> Possibly. I mean, it's yes or no. I know what I brought and I know what I got receipt. So, >> what do you want to do with your car? >> I can give it to my friend who's in the store. And >> can I give him my purse and everything, too? and just do the um >> how y'all get me but didn't get him. That's as hell. >> Even when the evidence was presented, she completely denied it. And she even began changing her story to steer the focus away from herself. >> He that's his that's what he do. I'm involved. I'm I'm his wife. I'm It's my car. Like the >> the front of the pants and the bra and stuff like that. >> I don't have nothing on me. I'm just coming outside. >> We're just making sure cuz we ain't got no female. >> Get something to wear for today. We cannot afford this. My friends in jail. I'm trying to get her out. >> Crazy. Hold on. I need my keys. Can you put my stuff on the car? >> So, what do you what do you want to take with you? Your phone. >> I need nothing to take with me. I need my stuff on the car and he can get it. >> You don't want your phone? >> That's what I'm going to do with my phone. It's off. He got to pay for it. >> When you call when you um get out. >> Y' don't have to do this. Y'all can give me another time. >> He said give you another time. >> I mean, like, give me time. >> No, you stole. >> Okay. Can you put it on the car, please? >> Yeah. >> Oh, damn. Man, y'all need to go after the person who really be doing >> Did he do Did he steal anything, too? Cuz we get both of y'all, >> man. Y'all didn't get them on camera. How get me on camera. >> They We don't control their cameras. They They made They called and then that's what we >> The guy he's in there. He's lightkinned. Can you give him my stuff, please, and tell them? >> Yeah. All right. And what's your friend at? >> He's not involved. >> Huh? >> He's not involved in anything. >> It sound like he is. So, somebody I'm going to be honest with you. He just got out of jail. He's not involved in anything. >> All right. I just picked >> At this point, her arrest was inevitable due to her involvement in the theft. But when officers began mentioning her belongings, she seemed more concerned about them than the crime she had committed. >> All right. Well, we're probably about to tow your car then. >> Why are you going to tell my car? Somebody to come get it? >> I don't got nobody to come get it. >> Yes, I do. I just got to call somebody. I call my husband. I call >> How long it's going to take? >> Like 10 minutes. >> What you What you say your husband in what? Mapleton. >> He's in Mapleton. I can He can probably get a cab, Uber, or something over here. I can get somebody over there. I got my sister up the street. My god mom up the street. Please don't tell my car. Sir, I am homeless. >> You homeless? Thought you say you live in Douglasville? >> I live with my friend right now. She's in jail, too. >> You want her to come? Somebody come get the car. >> If she can get somebody here by the time he's done without the >> Yeah, I'm homeless. >> I need a phone. >> Her phone. >> Y'all can call my mom or my sister. >> There's somebody that could be here in 5 to 10 minutes. >> Yes, sir. >> I got to pee anyway. >> What's your password? >> I ain't telling my password. Put my face. >> I can't. It doesn't have no face. >> Clear it. Cancel. >> It ain't going to do it. I have an iPhone. No, it won't. >> What's your password? You know, good. I'm not giving you my password. >> What can I do with your password? >> Listen, sir. Please. >> This the only way you can call somebody. What's your password? >> I can um put the phone right here. Maybe because you tried getting in it already. >> I have no reason to get your phone. If I want to get in your phone, I'll just take it. >> I know. >> All right. Hold on. >> I got Who we call? >> Godam. You got to clear it out. No. Go to my car. I mean my Yeah, mom. God. Ain't no god mom in here. What's >> my best mom? Best mom. Best mom forever. Yeah. No. Yeah. >> Phone off. I got to um FaceTime her. That's why I sound getting ready to go pay my phone bill. >> No. >> I don't know. That's the only thing I can think of. It's cuz he just got out of jail. He I promise you he got nothing to do with this was a surprise. Okay. um called my the same uh is my dog for life mine. >> It seemed that even at this moment there was not the slightest sign of remorse from the woman. She didn't even seem to understand what charges she was facing. >> It'll be fine. I I got a what Mr. uh shoplifting. >> I should be out soon. It's fine. Like I just don't want it to hold. Sir, >> will you leave her? Um, >> I when I make my call, I can get someone to come over and get it cuz I got an extra key. >> I'm not worried about it. >> Is it Is it their tag? >> It just says Nike, I'm guessing. >> Can I take it aside or just She just bought these from y'all. >> Are these Ys? I don't know if they're or not. I just want to make sure. >> No, that's not mine. I don't I don't have that. I just want to make sure. Appreciate it. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft. Taking responsibility early could have reduced the consequences, but denying and shifting blame only made the situation worse and destroyed her credibility. Next, the woman had meticulously planned her first ever theft. >> She tried like putting like other ones on here. I think that's not the correct one there. >> It's under arrest. Okay. For >> Yes, ma'am. Because it's retail theft. On September 6th, 2025, officers received a report of a shoplifting in progress at the store with the suspect identified as a woman manipulating expensive items to scan at lower prices. At that moment, the police intercepted her as she attempted to flee. >> Hello, police department. >> How are you doing? >> I'm good. What's >> good? Let's talk back in the OP office and we'll go from there. >> Okay. Oh my god. So, >> right now you're being detained. You're not free to leave. Okay. Just follow him. I have you take a seat. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yeah. >> So, is there a reason why you're putting your fake tags on here? >> No. >> That's not your ID. >> Oh, sorry. She was using like something called jumping beans which is like baby's clothes as items to scan >> scan everything strike a switch. >> But this is brand new. We just released this like a week ago and she paid a dollar for it. At first, the woman denied the loss prevention officer suspicions regarding the markings on the merchandise boxes. However, once everything was exposed, she began to admit to her actions. Is this so are you putting tags on all this and then under ringing it? >> Okay. Is this a common thing for you or is this just a one time thing? I mean, how many time how often do you do this? >> Oh, no. This is I don't know that. >> So, you have a postcard. I'm going to run that postcard and if I have more of you doing the same thing, I'll reach out back to them and they'll arrest you. >> No, this is the first time you ever done this. It's pretty >> advanced for a first timer. >> No. >> No. Never been arrested for it at all. >> Not for this. >> Not for this. Okay. >> Stupid. >> You still live in Hampshire? >> Yes, sir. >> Go with it. >> You're back. I'll get you guys a real photo. >> Yeah, I would appreciate it. Of course. and then you're able to get the receipt algorith. >> It became clear that immediately after the scheme was uncovered, she was dismayed and even struggled to respond when the officers questioned her about the motive behind her actions. >> I mean, there's got to be a reason, right? It's food cuz you're hungry. You don't have enough money. That's understandable. But these are just these are clothing items, right? So, what's the reasoning behind it? >> Sounds stupid. >> Okay. Just don't >> those are tags stickers. Um, >> where did you get those? >> The tags and stickers that you placed on different items to pay the lower price. Did you bring those from home? Did take >> from clothes in the store here today? >> Where did you put the stickers on the items? At the register. >> At the register. And then you scanned them and then you put them in the cart. Okay. >> About how long did you say you were in the store? >> About an hour. >> 45 minutes. >> A short time later, the loss prevention officer returned, which coincided with the moment the total value of the merchandise she had attempted to scam was confirmed. >> She only paid about $111 for the stuff and total is 504. It was 120 something. >> Yeah. With taxes. >> Yeah. So, I I have to go and see which one she with her receipt. Did we receive that they printed it out? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> So, most of the items, so see how it's like $3, $4, $6. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. >> So, she paid a total of one with not the tax. So 1138 >> and the total amount which is actually should have been over >> 50469. >> Okay. So 504 69 and then I'm sorry can you show what's the 113? >> It is 11358. >> Okay. >> It's what you paid for. >> Okay. Can we talk outside then real quick? I'll be right back. So, from my gift from that, that's going to be >> it's about like 400 and something. >> Just under 400 bucks, like three something. So, she doesn't have a CQ age. >> What's that? >> Um, she doesn't have a criminal history. >> Okay. >> Um, being that it's just 100 over some of the state attorneys might be a little more hesitant to approve felony charges, >> so leave it more probably guaranteed a misdemeanor charge. Or do you want to We could still do a village ordinance citation or we still bring her back. >> My problem is like I'm gonna run her card >> and she's gonna have more. >> Yeah, cuz this is way This is way too >> She has a Cole's card. I can run it through our system and it pops up anytime and every time she's been here, >> right? Oh. Oh, yeah. That's right. You can kill. Okay. >> The officers confirmed that this was the woman's first offense. Yet, she had planned it meticulously with each of her schemes once again pointed out by the losserevention officer. Um, some of these are different. This one should just scan. These baby clothes are real. She did pay for these baby clothes. The ones that are marked on there. But like this one, the sticker on the box. It was like this. So, that's how it was. And I ripped it off so I can scan the actual one. >> Mhm. Okay. I guess she tried like putting like other ones on here. I think that's not the correct one either. So, I think she just got asser. >> Okay. Oh, can I see that real quick? I just wanted my body camera. Actually, this is hers, isn't it? >> Yeah, that's the worst thing that she came for. Same thing with these like Nike sweaters. >> Mhm. This was just I I I went ahead and scam it, but it was like wrapped like this. So, you can't even tell if you're like just walking back. Okay, I'm going to get her going then. Um, >> and then I'll once she leaves, I'll let lay this on the floor, take a picture of it, and sign it to you. >> Uh, >> or you want just >> I'll I'll probably ask golf to do it for me. Um, golf is really it's nothing issue. It's just especially with it being tags. >> Uh, under pricing, I rather have more pictures than not, so more. >> And with her guilt seemingly undeniable, the officers quickly proceeded with their next steps. Yet, surprisingly, her attitude after being caught was unexpected. What are you going to do? >> Okay. I need you to turn around. >> Okay. >> You're going to be placed under arrest. Okay. For >> Yes, ma'am. Because it's reel that. >> Okay. >> Everybody, don't walk out. >> Sorry, man. Policies are policies. Nothing against you. >> Am I going to go to jail? >> You're going to go with me. >> I didn't mean to do that. >> You didn't mean to do it. You said you did it on purpose. I know, but I didn't read through it. I just wasn't thinking. >> You mean you didn't mean to get caught? >> I'm sorry, sir. >> Let me ask you something. Those boots, are those for your husband? >> See, Gaga 20141. >> What would your husband think if he knew that you didn't pay for those to get them for him? >> He would be very upset. >> Yeah. >> All right. You wouldn't mind standing up, man? I got to just make sure you got nothing on you. >> Okay. >> This is your car key. >> I put that in your so we don't lose that. >> Luckily, no pockets. >> I'm so sorry. Men's new black. Where'd you pull that one from? >> The tag from a coat. I think it was. >> The woman was charged with felony retail theft. Meticulous planning does not excuse wrongdoing, and even a firsttime offender can face serious consequences. Attempting to manipulate prices or deceive stores will inevitably be discovered and punished. Even worse, the woman had even washed the items she had stolen. >> So, your justification for going and stealing other people? No, >> I'm not I'm not right for it. No, I did that. I did it wrong. >> Hello. On July 1st, 2025, officers were dispatched to a residential area after identifying a suspect involved in theft who was determined to be an elderly woman named Donna. This was what happened next. >> Hey, how are you? Good. How are you? >> Good. Is Donna here? >> Yeah, she's here. >> Can I talk to her, please? >> Hop ups. >> Hey, Donna. How are you? >> I'm good. How are you? Good. Um, the dog's able to go inside so I can talk to you, please. >> To me? >> Yes. >> Hey, my classes are in the car. >> No worries, Donna. >> Yeah. >> Um, do you mind just walking over here so we can talk, please? You got your phone on you? >> No, >> not you. Anyway, you might you just grab mine? Yeah. >> All right, Donna. Do you know why I'm out here today? >> I do. >> No idea at all. >> Okay. So, you were at Kohl's today earlier, right? >> Yeah. >> So, Donna, we have you on video going into Kohl's with a cart, >> huh? >> And loading up approximately 30 to 35 packages. >> No. >> No. I I do >> lot. >> How many was it? >> It was a lot. It's over $1,100 in stolen merchandise. >> It was evident that faced with the accusation, she showed concern on her face. But when asked about the reason for stealing, it became even more unbelievable. Okay. >> Why'd you do that? >> Um, I don't know. Cuz they owe me money. >> Because what? >> They owe me money. >> Coohl's owed you money? >> Okay. So, why would you go and steal other people's packages? >> Cuz they'll get the Coles will give their money back. >> Okay. So, you're saying Kohl's owes you money. >> So, your justification for going and stealing other people? >> No, that's I'm not I'm not right for it. No, I did that. I did wrong. All right. >> Um, well, you're you're not free to go. So, um, you are detained at this point. >> Um, so I'm going to have you walk over here with me. Okay. Do you have anything on your person I need to be aware of? >> I'm going have you walk on down here to my car. Okay. >> Okay. Let me go. >> Just Just hang tight, please. I'm trying not to put you in handcuffs. Okay. She made it to it. >> All right, Donna. I'm going to have you have a seat right here for me. Before I put you back here, I'd like to search. Make sure you don't have any weapons on you. Don't without putting your hands in your >> It was clear that the woman fully cooperated with the police, but perhaps out of shame for her own wrongdoing. The officers soon faced additional difficulty in gathering her statements. >> Back to the house. >> I'm sorry. >> You want me to take all this back to the house? >> Um, if you want to. Thank you. >> You want me to tell them what's going on? >> Um, no. Okay. >> Where's the merchandise inside the house? >> I'll be in the dryer. >> The dryer >> probably. All right. >> Anytime. >> Ask if they can check the dryer and grab everything in it. >> Hey, Larry. It's off Kendrick City. How are you? >> Hey, good. Hey, so I'm going to have this female detained. I wanted to confirm the amount prior to me arresting her. Um, are we 100% that this is like $1,100 worth of merchandise that was stolen? Okay. Do we think it's over $1,000 at this point? Okay. Well, I've got my my colleague here grabbing all of the merchandise. I can probably get you a count um here in a minute. If we can Yeah, because if it's a felony, I I'm I'm going to have to arrest her. I have her detained right now um in the back of my car. >> Shortly after, the officers asked about her reason for stealing. She said she had done it because she owed money to someone, but the amount she owed was shocking compared to the value of the stolen goods. >> 60 bucks. >> $60. >> You stole like over $1,000 in merchandise. >> I didn't know that. I don't know. >> Yeah. >> So, then where we go from here? >> Well, I'm waiting for the store to get me an exact price on what's going on. Okay. Um, so if if it is confirmed to be over $1,000, you're going to go to jail. >> Okay. >> Have you ever been in trouble before? >> No, I've never been in trouble. >> You've never been arrested? Never been had any encounters with the police? >> No. I mean, a ticket for turning right from a >> But no criminal activity ever. >> Criminal activity? No. >> Okay. Shortly after, an officer sought assistance from her family and proceeded to recover the merchandise from the location she had indicated. >> Is that all her stuff? >> I don't know if this is I mean, I don't pay any attention what she wears. >> Okay, maybe we'll just have her come in and grab all the stuff for us. >> Yeah. >> Um All right. Give me a minute. I appreciate you checking. Give me a second. >> But we know what we did today is wrong, right? >> Well, definitely. Yeah. I would do anything. It's embarrassing. >> Well, you know, I didn't think that that anybody could see it. I mean, >> well, yeah. >> I thought the camera was over the corner. >> Yeah. I mean, I could show you. >> Oh, I don't want to see it. I really don't want to see it. That's really bad. >> Don't want to see what? >> I don't want to see what I did. >> I'm just showing you >> what it look like. >> The pictures of you. That's all. >> Pictures of me. >> All right. Hang tight, Donna. >> Okay. He They're trying to be helpful. >> The next issue the officers faced came from the stolen items themselves as they had been mixed together, forcing the police to have her personally identify and return them. >> I'd like to get my glasses somewhere or another. In the meanwhile, And it's not dry though. >> So you just came in here and threw it all in the wash. >> Yeah, I washed it lightly last. >> Hello. Is this all theirs? Yes. Okay. Was there anything that was taken that wasn't clothing? >> Uh, yeah. >> Okay, we'll get to that here in a minute. >> Okay. >> Don, are you okay if I tell them what's going at least that part? What the next steps are? >> All right. Is code three, correct? Uh they're verifying the amount, but if it's over the amount, yes. >> Okay. So, they're checking the exact amount of calls. Um if it's over $1,000, she is going to go to jail tonight. If it's less than $1,000, she'll get a summon and come to court at a later date. >> Okay. So, >> so that's all the clothing. >> So, if she get a bag for >> Okay. Um can we ask them to grab a bag? U because it would be a felony, she would have to see a judge tomorrow morning and then whatever the judge says, bail own release on owner cognance, something of that nature. >> It's Kohl's as well, so we're going to take it. >> This is also Kohl's merchandise as well, according to her. Well, I appreciate it. Sorry we had to meet on the this way. >> That's the truth. >> But like I said, if it's under a,000, she'll be released tonight with a summon to court at a future date. If it's over a,000, it's an automatic felony. So, she would have to go to jail tonight. Okay. >> Okay. It's going to be close. >> The woman was charged with felony theft. Her actions showed how a moment of poor judgment driven by a weak justification could quickly escalate into a serious felony with lasting consequences. Next, the next thief turned out to be the store's own assistant manager. >> I was just making returns under my name. >> Okay. So, how how did you go about that? Do you know how much? >> Can you tell me? Yes. >> What's that number? >> It's $30,000. >> On October 30th, police received a call from a Tommy Bahama store reporting an ongoing theft scheme, and the suspect was believed to be one of their own employees. Upon arrival at the scene, the total loss suffered by the store was confirmed by the manager. >> Witness statement. He's returned $33,000 worth of merchandise put back on his credit card. Um, so they're getting he's doing on his witness statement. My LP guy, I'm the district manager, by the way. He told me just to call him when he was they're just gonna tell you something real quick before you do this. >> He's an employee. Okay. >> Is the employee here now? >> Yeah, he's in the back. Okay. >> So, you're probably putting him, you know, in the car maybe. I don't know. But that's a lot of money. >> She ain't coming over here. She just said if you need help. >> Oh, okay. >> All right. >> Hi, this is Officer Perva with the RV Police. >> Good. Tell me what's going on. >> My name is I'm a senior investigator from Oklahoma. I work out of our corporate office in Seattle. Uh I started an investigation on Tuesday um of fraudulent refunds um by one of our assistant managers. He's in the back right now. I just interviewed him and talked to him. He admitted to it and wrote a statement for me. Um, but he's been coming in and doing fraudulent refunds back since June. Um, every week he comes in almost every day now. Uh, it started like on a weekly basis. >> This meant the scheme had lasted for over 5 months with the exact amount totaling $33,560. Immediately afterward, police approached the suspect to obtain a direct statement. >> How you doing? >> How you doing? >> So, who we who we here for? What's the name? >> Okay. >> All right. So, are you involved or anything? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, I'm going to read you a couple of things. Just need a verbal yes or no if you understand. Okay. >> You have the right You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. You understand? >> Yes. >> Any statement can and will be used against you in a court of law. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. So, I'm going to just start with why are we here? >> You guys are here because I was I got caught stealing from the company. >> When you say stealing, can you elaborate? >> Um, I just was uh just issuing returns. >> What do you mean by issuing returns? >> I was just making returns under my name. >> Okay. So, how how'd you go about that? Just I was just returning a few products and then I would just issue them back to my car so I can >> So where did the products come from? You just made them up or >> just came from in the store. >> Came from in the store. So you take something off the rack? >> Yes. >> And issue it as a return? >> Yes. Or it'll be any any past any past sizes that I have um that I I don't fit or I can't wear anymore. I just bring them inside the store and just return them. >> Okay. Um do you know how much >> he told me? Yes. >> Yeah. >> What's that number? >> It's $30,000. >> 30,000. Okay. And when did this start? >> You tell me how it started in June. >> The man clearly showed his anxiety as he did not dare to give any statements from his own perspective. And everything he said was based on what the store had told him. At that point, the police decided on their course of action. Turn around. Hand behind your back. Take this off. We'll take these off. We'll take all the bands off first. >> No. >> Does this You can take this off. >> You want to take your earrings off for us, too? >> Okay. >> Makes it easier for us. >> Am I able to put it in my bucket? >> Well, it's all going to go in a bag. You have plastic bags. >> Okay, I'm out. >> It's fine. >> We'll take care of that. All right. It's easier if you put them together like you're praying. >> Okay. >> Other way like hands like like that. >> Oh my god. >> It's a little more comfortable. The man was then escorted outside. But first, the police tried to confirm that with such a large amount involved, he was not operating as part of an organized scheme. >> You're not working with anybody doing this? >> No, no, no. >> It's not organized. >> No, it's not organized. >> How long you been working here? >> Uh, 7 months. 8 months. >> 7 months. Okay. >> Is your belt If I took your belt off, would your pants fall down? Yeah, they're kind of >> like they're saggy. >> They're pretty loose. >> All right, take them on then. >> All right, you got all that? >> Yep. >> Can I just put them in your car and then meet you at the PD and we swap? I'm I'm over on that city. >> All right. >> Can we get his keys back for >> Oh, yeah. Can you have your keys? Keys on you. >> Oh, they're in here. there in that one right there. The top one. So if you unzip this >> this >> Yes, sir. And then it'll be that stored key is the key. >> Yeah. Right. This one, right? >> Yes, sir. >> These other ones aren't related. >> No, no, no. >> All right. Cool. >> Thank you. No problem. >> In the end, he was charged with one count of felony organized scheme to defraud. His actions showed that even when acting alone, a repeated and calculated scheme could still be treated as a serious crime. Trying to exploit a system over time only built stronger evidence against him, proving that short-term gain could lead to long-term consequences. Next, through this man, the police uncovered the entire fraud organization operating behind the scheme. >> You buy anything in there? >> No, it doesn't look. >> They said you were up there messing with the gift cards, huh? No, no, no. >> So, you're tampering with these today? On the 7th of May 2024, police received a report from Kroger about a man placing gift cards back on the shelf suspected of a scam involving counterfeit cards. Upon arriving, the suspect attempted to leave, prompting officers to immediately intercept him. >> What's going on? >> You buy anything in there? No, >> I don't. >> They said you were up there messing with the gift cards, huh? >> No, no, no. Come here, sir. >> You got some ID? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Hey, what's going on with you? You got any weapons on you? >> Okay. Okay. >> Did you take any gift cards? >> No. No. No. I'm not there. >> What are you doing with the gift cards? >> No. >> Huh? You got some ID? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Buddy's in the GMC down there. >> Gift card? >> No. No. >> I see one in there. You steal gift? Did they take any gift cards today? >> They put them up. I buy >> So they altering the gift cards. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I buy this card. >> Okay. ID. What? >> You have your weapons on you? >> No. >> Nothing. What's that? Phone. >> On your phone. >> Okay. >> Oh, you from California? >> Oh, yeah. >> What are you doing here? >> Come here. >> Keep your hands out of your pocket. >> No. >> What's the other one at? >> Down there. Parking GMC. >> Get the plate. >> It's Tennessee plate. >> Yeah. >> The man's nervousness was evident. Yet even more suspiciously, when police directly confronted him with the allegations, he showed no surprise at all. >> They said you're tampering with the gift cards. >> That's why I'm here. That's why they call the police, cuz you've been doing that. All the money you got, >> huh? >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. >> I have good money. >> Yeah. >> Do you have any gift cards in there? Do they know they tampered with today? >> Oh, yeah. I I can prove your >> Yeah. Go get the gift cards. Bring them in here. >> Take those. Can I tell him that where that other guy's at? Yeah, >> he's a >> So they take the gift cards and they get the information and then they keep them on the shelf, right? >> Federal information. >> Okay. So you're tampering with these today. >> Is this you? >> Oh yeah. >> Okay. Let's have a seat. >> Oh, it's okay. >> Okay. Sit over here on this uh corner here. Spy sir. Spy. >> No, I want you to sit down. I'm detaining you right now. So sit down. Yeah. So this guy, what they do is they take the gift cards and they get all the information off of them. And she he was doing that to these today. >> No, but she saw him doing it. She's the witness. He's got thousands of dollars in cash on and he didn't buy anything. Based on the officer's experience, he quickly deduced that the man was working for a gift card fraud ring, even describing the entire scheme with ease. >> So, he's putting the and and >> so these cards are forged. They're not real. >> No, they're real, but they got the information off of at a centralized location. Then they check the balances as they get sold. They cash them in and they keep the money and the person gets screwed that buys them. >> Yeah. >> Phone, just have a seat. You're being detained. >> Detaining from here. Go ahead. Sit down. Set that on the hood. >> The Kroger employee puts a dollar amount on the damages. >> I mean, we just try to get >> 700,000 already. >> Yes. In the last two weeks, it just 10 stores. But, I mean, the last few months we've sent them. We've got to be at a million in the last couple months that we've sent to our fire department. So, cuz the two guys they picked up in Nashville were at our stores here. And then there's another female that we have on video here and at Stony Brook on Hurst War. And then there's another male at the wind station cover. But I mean, we don't have any information on them cuz they're just in and out. >> Okay, I got you on my phone. I'm hot. Um, Homeland Security's involved in this. They've been doing it all over the country. >> With the help of a witness, the gift cards were then examined to be compared side by side. >> Well, I think you'd have to look under the federal statutes, not the state. Do you have anything else in probably some cards in there? I didn't really look in it. He opened it. Mr. Smith, how are you? So they were putting cards on the shelf that they have all the information from. >> They take all that information. >> So they scratch off the back. >> No, they take the information. >> Not these specifically, but so like this one for example. So when you get >> Homeland Security sent me that article. >> So like you'll get a card just like this. you'll purchase it and then when you go home you've already spent the $100 on it. >> When you go to open it, that's what it'll look like. So, you won't be able to use the card at all because they've scratched out these numbers. >> So, they have your money at that point. >> So, they've tampered with these cars by scratching these numbers out. >> Yes. >> But then they re put them on the shelf to resell to innocent victim. >> I have him detained in my back seat. Finally put him in the car. Well, so since they've altered the card, >> they've altered it. >> Yes. >> Then do the CPFI. >> Moments later, the officer swiftly took action, sealing the man's fate. >> Okay. I'm put your your earpiece. I'll put in the backpack. >> My hand. Go ahead. Go ahead. >> Hang on. Just going to put you in cuffs for your security and his security. Okay. >> Still detaining you. >> Yes. being detained in his safety. >> Hold on. I got double lock. >> I saw you had some money in there and you got a wall with some Costco car and car. >> Anything else in that backpack we need to know about? >> He had a bunch of cash. So, he he emptied out his >> backpack. That's what they probably brought in. And then the other guy I took out, he's got like Costco card. He's got uh cash. This is his earbuds case. >> You got the other earbuds. >> Yeah. >> I'm all about 105 on something. >> Hopefully Homeland Security will come back and >> give you something. Hopefully they just come and get him. I mean, that would be the reasonable thing to do. That would be what I think they would want to do. >> Yeah. All right. >> After determining the aggregate value of the cards, the cops let the suspect know what his charges are. >> So, you already got a felony on it. >> Okay. I haven't told him he's under arrest yet. You want to give him the good news? >> Okay. You're now under arrest on felony charges. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You have the right to consult. Do you understand these rights? With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me now? >> I I don't understand. >> Okay. You don't understand. He say he doesn't understand it. Well, I read your rights. Okay. >> Well, okay. You want to talk to him anymore? >> Yeah. >> The suspect was formally charged for participating in the gift card fraud scheme, facing felony charges as part of a federal indictment. Staying honest and aware of scams is crucial because attempting to exploit systems not only harms others, but can ruin your own future. Even more strangely, the woman abandoned her bag in an attempt to feain innocence. >> So, they have you on camera swapping out your shoes. Hey, can I see? putting items in your purse. Okay. >> Um, I didn't agree with that. >> Okay. No, I understand. We're not worried about that one. >> I was using it as a shopping bag. >> On March 18th, 2024, police received a report from Walmart about a woman acting suspiciously. To get a clearer picture, officers and loss prevention staff monitored her via cameras, uncovering the following. >> I've been watching this now. So, um, the shoes she has on, >> those are her dirty shoes, and those are our shoes. And then she concealed in her bag, I think, a a shirt. And I'm not sure, he still has the pants on him, but I think she has jewelry as well. But I didn't see her. I But what I did see was that those shoes are ours. >> We got two more coming home, please. >> So, I know you guys are busy. Do you want to just approach on the floor? You want to let them I don't know how long they're going to be shopping. >> I'll I'll when they one just got here. So, when she pulls, I'll see where she was. >> Hi. Oh, hello. Sorry. >> No, it's okay. So, those are our shoes. Those are her dirty shoes. >> Okay. >> And then uh she put some stuff in her purse. The head is ours as well. I don't know what you guys want to do. I know you guys are busy. So, do you want to approach from the floor and just >> uh No. We're going to need to have her actually try to exit because at this point she could try to say like while still going to pay for so she would have to bypass all. >> Okay. Okay. No worries. >> Try to see where she's at. She's in the back right now. >> Yeah. Hopefully they're almost done. The woman was identified swapping her shoes and hiding multiple items in her bag. Yet, the loss prevention staff saw no sign of her stopping. The surveillance continued. >> And it's just her so far. >> It's It's her. He's with her. But >> he >> And then someone >> You don't have anything for sure on him, though? >> Um, no. She's the one that's concealing everything. >> Where is she? Ah, >> there she is. >> You guys know who she is? >> No, I don't. I think I've seen that hair. I mean I if anyhow have her on the shoes. Those are her shoes. So >> we're just trying to see if she's going to have to try it out. >> Yeah. >> Where are her old shoes at? >> Right here. >> Okay. >> Where'd she leave them? >> She left them at the shoe in the shoe aisle. She like put them behind other shoes. >> Okay. So I said, "Well, if anything, I know she has stuff in that purse that belong to us, but I but that in fact like if I have anything and those are ours, so I have her on a sheet." No worries. I don't know. They had pants in a shirt and I think they're in there, but he keeps grabbing stuff, so I don't know. And then they keep going into corners. >> Okay, so maybe they'll maybe they'll go pay now. Who knows? Hopefully. So we can just be done with this. The woman appeared ready to leave, but just before exiting, she made a suspicious move clearly captured on camera. >> She's going to put her purse down. If you want, just maybe wait outside. I'll let you know if they start heading out. Oh, she's going to leave her purse. She dumped her purse. >> Okay. >> Yeah, she dumped it. Hold on. Yeah, she ditched her purse. >> Oh, no. She She's ditching her purse. They're going to walk out. Hold on. She ditched her purse and seasonal. Can you please go get it? >> Yeah, she still has the shoes. They're heading towards the exit right now. >> She still has a female. >> It seemed the woman noticed the police and dumped the stolen items back, but this didn't erase her wrongdoing. Officers quickly blocked her escape route. >> You didn't even look at the pictures when I came in. >> You have your old shoes. You got your old shoes on your back. Okay. I'm wearing the same shoes I'm wearing. >> Okay. >> Well, we have your old shoes in the asset protection office. So, you're detained right now. Okay. >> Under arrest. >> You're just detained right now. >> That's not an answer. >> You are just detained right now. That's the answer. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> You're good to go, buddy. You >> That's my husband. He's not leaving me. >> Okay. Well, we're going to go to the asset protection office, so you can wait outside. >> He can't come with me, then I'm not going. I don't trust I don't want to be going through a room full of men. He's insane. >> My camera's on. >> I don't care. >> Okay. >> Well, there's a females in there. >> The the camera was on when you guys meet on that guy's neck, too. But >> I didn't hear anyone there. >> Nobody else. >> Who? >> That's why he's in jail. >> Who is that? >> Valenuela. >> The woman appeared to spin strange stories to complicate matters for the police, but in the face of her crimes, she had no choice. >> All right. Can I just take the shoes off? >> Are you past all points of purchase or you going to get charger for shopping? >> I'm not past all points of purchase right there. See? >> Okay. You can let go of me. You squeeze me any harder on them. >> You want to take it cuz she's starting to >> I don't want to I don't want a male putting their hands on me, please. >> Okay. One second. All >> righty, ma'am. Have a seat on the bench. All right. All right, ma'am. So, they have you on camera swapping out your shoes. Hey, can I see >> putting items in your purse? Okay. >> Um, I didn't agree with that. >> Okay. No, I understand. We're not worried about that. >> I was using it as a shopping bag. >> Okay. Right now, is this you? >> That's fine. Can I have my tickets? >> Okay. We're going to get done when we're done. Okay. You don't run this. >> All right. Well, then are you going to pick up my daughter from your ticket? >> No. >> Am I under arrest? >> Mary, you are. >> I thought I was detained. No, you are detained. But we have video now. >> Yeah, now you're arrested because we do have you on video footage. Swapping your shoes and trying to walk out of the store. >> It's a $10 ticket. Like it's a $10. >> Okay. Well, actually, I can't take you to jail. >> Not a hint of guilt showed on the woman's face. Every word seemed rehearsed to counter the accusations. Her charges were confirmed, yet her attitude remained completely indifferent. >> Right now, this is fine. Can I have my ticket? >> Okay. We're going to get done when we're done. Okay. You don't run this. >> All right. All right. Well, then are you going to pick up my daughter? >> No. >> You want you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer. Have them present with you while you're doing question. You cannot afford a lawyer. Now you're arrested because we do have you on video footage swapping your shoes and trying to walk out of the store. It's a $10 ticket. Like, it's a $10. >> Okay. Well, actually, I can't take you to jail. >> Okay. So, you want to talk about what happened? >> I just need your shoes. >> Okay. What's your name? My daughter. >> Don't. That's not what I'm saying. >> She told me to stand by. Maybe something better child at least. >> Okay. >> Shoplifting, disorderly conduct, and resisting obstruction. >> I don't resist your obstruction. >> Well, you have three. So, >> warrant. >> Wait, what are you talking about? >> I'm direct confirmed. So, you're going to jail today. Actually, >> I have warrants for what? >> I said shoplifting, >> disorderly conduct, resisting, arresting, or evading an officer. >> So, whatever incident you had prior, you didn't show up to court. Sounds like >> they could just be simple FTAs. I've never had a Okay. >> Well, it comes back to your social security number. So, >> it comes back to my my name and social security number. >> Yeah, I ran you by ran you by your social case in court. >> Okay. Regardless, you're going to take it in court. Sort that with them. Hands behind your back. >> I ain't resisting. >> On January 22nd, 2026, officers responded to a grocery store after receiving a report of a woman causing a disturbance there. Upon approach, the woman clearly showed how tense she was. >> Hey, I don't know. I just purchased this. >> Okay, come on. Listen to me, sir. Listen. Listen. >> No. No. No. What's your date of birth? >> Look at you. You here for me? >> I am. And I got to get your information. >> You here for me? And I ain't done nothing. >> She believed she was the one who needed help at that moment, but instead of cooperating to resolve the situation, she kept acting panicked, making it difficult for the officers to handle the situation. >> You want to Do you want to Did she pay for this? >> I don't know. >> We don't know. Do you have a reason? >> Nope. Let's go. I told you that I paid for I had a link card. >> You have a link card. Okay. >> I'm going to ask you one more time to exit the store. >> I'm going to exit the store. >> Okay. Come on. >> I don't mind exiting the store, but you can't you can't >> I'm going to ask you one more time. >> You can't do nothing with me when I exit the store because I don't have nothing. >> You be banned from the store. Okay. >> I don't mind being banned. >> Okay. Come on. >> Now, can you give me your date of birth? >> No. >> Okay. >> No. >> Under the officer's persuasion, she agreed to step outside the store, but that was also the beginning of her growing disregard for the police. >> No. >> Listen, I'm done. All right, sir. Stop. Please don't. Please don't. >> If you don't stop, I'm going to put you in handcuffs. >> I ain't I'm not I'm going to explain how this works. I don't care. You're recorded. Loosen up your arm. >> My arms are loosened. Detain me. Thank you. But guess what? Calm down. >> God don't like me. Take this. Nope. We ain't got nothing else to talk about. >> Calm down. You just got to double check your >> Make sure they're double up. Y'all wrong. And y'all ain't know some racist ass white [ __ ] I ain't I ain't coming down. I'm a black [ __ ] in a white neighborhood handcuffs on. >> She had no intention of stopping. Even after being handcuffed, the woman continued causing trouble in different ways, even while being escorted away. >> Hey y'all, >> please walk with them. >> Please walk with us. >> Don't resist. No. >> All right, hold on. I'll grab her feet. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. >> Drag me. Drag me. Drag me. Drag me. We don't have any, but they've been out for over 3 hours. So when she got here, they already weren't there. She was mad saying that with the one she was mad at went back there and started talking about her, but she went back there to tell everybody else we don't have any plates. So when I heard she was cussing, I came around and she was in place talking of like saying you and you up and I'm coming for you all that. And so I told her we haven't had any sour face for a while. And she got in my face and said, "No, I got the last one. You remember I got the last one." I said, "Okay, whatever." You know, I know she didn't, so I'm not gonna argue. And when she got in my face, that's when I smelled her breath. >> And I know she Yeah. And that's when she like shoved me and she she didn't do it hard, but she don't touch me. >> Did she kind of do like this or >> It was like a Well, you don't know. >> Okay. >> It wasn't like a attack, but it was don't touch me, please. >> Okay. And so that's when she kept getting more mad and I could tell it wasn't going to like get fixed and I kept telling her it's all well and she goes I'm fine but you're not and just kept saying stuff like that and she kept coming back and just standing there. >> So I called and once I back she got even more mad and then started doing that all over my face again ma'am and she thought he said dude >> so she went really Yeah. And then that's when told me to just walk away and I stayed away since then. >> In the end, the woman was charged with battery, trespassing, and resisting arrest. Refusing to stay calm and cooperate with officers during a simple investigation only escalated the situation and turned a minor incident into serious legal trouble. Worse still, the couple that followed continued causing chaos without stopping. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind. >> They tased me for no reason. I did not wrong. I broke no law. >> I don't know. >> Can I have a bott of water? >> On October 5th, 2025, police were dispatched to a gas station after receiving a report of a customer assaulting a staff member. Upon approaching, the female suspect clearly showed that she was not easy to deal with. >> We're not going to be playing these games right now. I'm investigating. Time out. Time out. Time out. Time out. You came at me. >> Don't walk up on me. >> You came up. Don't walk up on me. You got your body camera. >> Yes, it is. >> Okay. Don't play with me. >> I'm asking a question and you're yelling. >> I said I don't matter. I don't have to. >> You told me you were involved. All right. I am involving. I'm I'm investigating a battery. >> What's a battery? Battery and what? >> You want to tell me what happened? >> If you're not involved, then start WALKING AWAY BEFORE I LOCK YOU UP. >> YOU WANT HANDCUFFS ON YOU. >> NO, YOU'RE stepping outside. Come here. Come here. >> DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. GET BACK. >> DON'T TOUCH ME. PUT your hands BEHIND YOUR HEAD. >> I'M NOT PUTTING MY hands in your hand. >> Calm down. Don't touch me. Relax. Calm down. Look up. STOP. STOP. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. He showed up after the >> Who is he? >> That is the boyfriend of the sister who was not in the vehicle at all. So, the two sisters with the kids were in the car and they pulled into the gas station. They probably didn't signal fast enough or whatever, but the car behind them started honking. >> So, is this a 1050? >> So, this is a road. So, so she said they did not get into an accident. >> Yeah. Facing hardship with honesty would always leave a better path than trying to escape through wrongdoing. Next, this pursuit proved to be just as dramatic as the last. Yo, stop. On December 14th, 2024, officers received a call from Target reporting an active theft in progress. The suspects were confirmed to be one male and one female. When they arrived on scene, everything immediately escalated into tension from the very first moments. Yo, stop. You're going to GET Get on the ground. OKAY. In stark contrast to their attitude, the employee proceeded to give a full statement of the entire incident. >> Okay. Walking the store and I um seen Hispanic female with a large bag making small merchandise. Um watching it for a little bit. Um walked away and met up with her again. I saw her and stuff where she had more selection bigger items. From there I put my sister and watching her. She made multiple selection of find merchandise. Um she was walking around the store just grabbing stuff. She was she must be looking for somebody else. We couldn't figure out what she was looking for. Um then at one point she went into the bathroom in the man's bathroom. She saw some hotel his mail. He has a cart full of stuff as well. They both meet up guys. See them both loading stuff into separate cart. So, she hit her cart in the men's department while he walked around the store and got more things. They kind of both loaded that one cart up. Um, then they went to the men's area where they both put their carts down. They're walking around that area grabbing multiple items, put them into the cart. Then at one point, um, they both go into a equals aisle and you can see her concealing the merchandise into like this white tote that was in the cart. Um, and then something also into her personal bag. So, they both kind of stayed there. He kind of walked around the area while watching steal stuff and he grabbed stuff to his cart. Uh then they both grabbed their both two separate parts pushed towards the grocery. >> Returning to the suspects, the store made its decision regarding their fate. Even the officers realized that the man was involved in separate unrelated cases. >> All right, guys. I'm going to tell you one time. Make sure this is the correct info. Okay? If it's not, it's another charge. So, think about it. Is that your correct names and date of births? Yeah. >> Positive. >> Okay. Spear up the alien. >> Dehe man was found guilty of robbery and aggravated grand retail theft. The female suspect was charged with felony retail theft. However, her case was ultimately dismissed. Greed and teamwork in crime did not make them smarter. It only multiplied the consequences. One reckless decision inside a store turned into felony convictions. Jail time.
