Worse, she was accompanied by a family member not acting responsibly. Upon arriving at the scene, she also exploited the situation to appear distressed and begged for leniency. >> Listen, my son just I miss my son at the bus stop at my house. I was Oh, he's Your son is at the >> That whole stuff is in the cart? >> I'm not running away. >> Okay. >> I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm trying, but I don't know. I can't win all these things. Who's this? This is my son, Jackson. Oh, he's beautiful. >> Do you have your ID? >> Oh, yes. I'm sorry. >> So, obviously you're being stopped reference to a theft investigation. And at this point you are detained. So, I want to advise you of your Miranda rights. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to So, what's going on here? >> I had to leave it. >> Yeah. >> The woman admitted her actions, but was too ashamed to explain the reason behind them. In addition, the police quickly discovered that she had been committing another offense. >> Do you drive? >> Yes. >> But you're suspended. You ain't got a license. You ain't driving out of here. So, why you doing this? >> I don't even know what this is. >> You don't have an answer. You got money or what? >> I got like $20. >> How many do you have like a How many do you What What are you stealing? Was that makeup and all that stuff? >> Her purse and the baby care stuff, so they said. >> And she stuffed a bunch of wax melts and some other stuff possibly in her I know it was not wax melts in her purse. >> Yeah. >> Well, this is all her stuff. >> The bag is itself. But he's got the purse here, he says. >> Is it just this? >> She had a bunch of those. >> All I see is that one. >> No. >> On the backside there. >> Oh, sorry. >> I don't want you walking up behind me while I'm while I'm searching this purse. Go sit down on that bench over there. >> Okay. I'm >> The items were all believed to be primarily for her personal use. During the search, police also discovered suspicious indicators suggesting possible use of illicit substances. What do you have folded up in all this foil in here? >> Just cuz I got it from my sister in law today. She gave me some so I could put it in there. I don't get high from this. >> Sir, I have a The guy right there going through my bag. Do I need to throw that out? >> Well, you're going to be trespassed. You know, this is the second time. Right? Cuz I've caught you in Well, November last year. And I forgot it. And I've caught you multiple times at the cold, right? >> Yeah, like a long, long time ago. >> You want to unlock that or cut it? Do you have the key to this thing, ma'am? >> I need 80 prescriptions and I Can I see if someone I >> I don't want you to look at it. I want you to tell me do you have a key or not? >> No, it's on my key ring. >> Is there anything illegal in this thing? >> No, it's my medicine. I just put it in there. >> I don't think that's legal. Are there the key in here? Is that what this is for? Well, if that's our key, then I'm going. >> No, it's at home. There's not a key in there at all. >> Something else right there. You got You got bolt cutters, Phil? Can you go back and sit down on the bench? Thank you. I don't work here. Those will work, won't they? They might not cut that, but they'll cut that little zipper. You know the hole in the zipper. Tensioners or shears or whatever. Is that right here? Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> At this point, the woman's wrongdoing was clearly evident. Police focused on the safety of the family member with her, but she appeared more concerned about herself than the person accompanying her. >> I guess you can come get your child. >> Oh my god, man. >> Ain't no how allow this in the store. You make sure you get the trespass forms signed. I'll give you a receipt. >> Is your mama going to come? Mama going to come? Somebody knows how to take care of them. Do you guys know how much the bond would be? >> I We'll We'll tell you when we get to the jail. They'll be able to give you the exact amount. Yeah, anywhere between anywhere between $150 and $500 probably. Yeah. The ankle monitor is going to be $150. >> Does she have court in the morning? >> Yeah. >> So she will be in >> If they don't kick her out already. Unless she finds out her bond. >> Yeah. >> That's more likely what will happen. >> For quite a while here. >> I will talk to you about everything. I'm going to go to jail. I think it's $157. >> Anywhere between $150 and $300 probably, yeah. >> Whatever her fees are tacked on to the $150. >> Right here. You're going to sign the papers with me. >> Probably $200 something. $220 you say? M1 $500 bond. 10% is 100 bucks. Plus your bondsman fee. Should be 150 175. Is that her previous record at the castle? Huh? >> Yes, sir. >> What was the amount of that? >> $302. >> November 3rd, 2014. >> Her conversation centered on securing her own bail instead of the main priority, which was contacting a guardian for the family member with her. Shortly after, the store confirmed the consequences of her actions. >> All right, at this point you are trespassed on all Walmart properties. And that includes Sam's Club and Murphy's Oil and the gas station. If you come back, you'll be charged with trespassing. Do you understand that? Okay. This is You fill out You fill out your You fill out that form. >> Aw, I think he's probably the cutest baby I've ever seen in my life. >> What are you doing here? Your Your party can whenever that comes. >> And you guys aren't really not a bad person. I just make bad decisions. >> Again, you're >> I know I'm not. >> No one thinks you are a bad person here. Yeah. >> for that. I've known Amanda for many years. >> I'll let you vouch for us. >> I would really, really like to say that too. >> Yes, I was. >> I thought there was another dollar. >> I didn't see a dollar in there. There was a dollar in that purse and then down the bottom. It went up between all that stuff right there. >> Because every dollar counts, right? >> But not But not this. Not Not in there. Yeah, there it is. Hold it up, yeah. >> I'm going to watch your baby. My mom would love to watch your baby. So, for a minimal thing. You know what I mean? Cuz she's retired. So, take my number. You need to get into groups. >> Let's not Let's not Let's not say anything crazy. >> I'm a social worker for this department. So, I handle this kind of stuff. I didn't know it was you. I just heard a lady in a white t-shirt with a baby stealing. So, I was like, let me come. Let me see what's going on with her. She might need help. >> I wish I would have thought about this before. >> Tell Michelle that. Tell her that you're working with me and you're going to go to treatment. And then I'll make sure that your ass does go to treatment. Like I'm not going to I'm not going to lie to Michelle to get you out of jail. We got to But the But the thing is, you need to do treatment. I would like for you to do treatment. >> I have no problem with that. >> It was clear that she was attempting to use personal life difficulties as a way to downplay the seriousness of her wrongdoing. After a bail guarantor arrived at the scene, the woman was escorted out by the authorities. >> And I I'm not I'm not expecting you to run or anything. >> So, I have a question. >> Yeah, you're just going to let her know what's going on and that you're in there, okay? >> But um like I don't need rehab for drugs. I need rehab for like thinking problems, I guess. You know, like real compulsive disorder that. >> The woman was ultimately charged with theft. No personal hardship can justify wrongdoing. When someone repeatedly avoids responsibility and prioritizes themselves over others safety, legal consequences are inevitable regardless of their explanations. Worse, the mother even shifted responsibility onto her own family member. >> Honestly, we're not just kids up because the kids were distracting me and they got me in because I'm on probation so I can't >> As long as you forgot to save you items girls and do I have to pay for them to pay for them and I just >> On the 23rd of June 2025, police received a report from Walmart about a theft that had occurred. The suspect was believed to be a woman who fled leaving her family members behind with her friend after being discovered. Upon arriving at the scene, a witness gave a brief statement about what had happened. >> Hello. I was shopping to to the Apple Vision. I'm trying to get a trading receipt right now to see exactly how much. She had told her to come over to watch the kids >> Okay. >> I don't understand what she was saying when she left. >> Gotcha. So did she ask you to to watch the kids and then just like walk off? >> She's pointing to the kids so I'm assuming that was come watch the kids but I did not hear what she was saying when she left. >> Gotcha. >> You guys come over there. This is adult conversation it's not your >> Yeah, it sounds like she has a lot of theft history based on what we found so >> I don't know if she's going to come back or not I mean she left the kids. >> Yeah, I get >> Whatever she's not wanted. She's not charged with that. I don't care. I want to make her get the kids. >> I will do that. >> Can you bring them out? >> Yeah, hold on one second. >> All right, just just so you're aware my name is Sergeant Williams with the OC Police Department. Just so you're aware what's going to happen right now, we are going to and I only briefly spoke with my officer here but it sounds like you just left your kids here after you committed a theft and decided to run away. So what we're going to do is we're going to file warrants for theft, we're going to file warrants for child endangerment for two of your kids that you decided to abandon here and then we're going to also charge you with some warrants, issue some warrants for contributing to the delinquency of a minor for a theft while in the presence of your kid. At this point, I appreciate your verbal consent. I'm not so sold on it. I can't verify who you are. I have no information for you. I can't see your face. All I have is a name and a phone number. So, what I'm likely to do is just I'm going to have to take the kids to children's services and have a legal guardian pick them up from there. >> My best friend can't take them? >> No, no. The easiest way for what for this whole thing >> Suspect intentionally used the word best friend to appear close, but according to the woman, at present she was not authorized to take care of her family members. Under the pressure of her own guilt, the suspect appeared just a few minutes later. >> Now that you're here >> I'm sorry. I shouldn't have ran. I should have just waited for you guys. I just got a little nervous and I've I've been in trouble for theft before. I'm not going to lie to you. I've been clean all year, you know, I've been out of jail a year. I haven't gotten any trouble. So, I just got a little nervous and I didn't know what to do, so >> You don't have any weapons or anything >> Can I get you No. No, no. Am I going to be arrested? >> Step Step over here. >> I >> You do have warrants for your arrest for theft. So, we're in the process of getting >> I do have warrants for my arrest? >> We're in the process of verifying them with Oakland County. If you do have these warrants, you will be going to jail. Have you ever missed a court date before for this stuff or you just >> No, I've been done with court. I am on probation, I'll be honest with you. >> Got you. >> Um but I know when you pull up my name it says the red mark by it it says check docket for processing a payment. >> What's your What's your probation for? Is it also for theft? >> Yeah. >> There's no way that we can cut this that you won't go to jail at least for tonight. Cuz even if you these warrants come back and they're not good because of your priors, because you're on probation, I can't just release you with a summons. It will have to be jailed tonight. >> I will take them overnight. My mom My mom can't take them. >> I will take them. >> Can you Can I call Okay. I'm on probation. I'm going to get a probation violation. >> Without asking about her family at all, she focused only on her own future. Shortly after, her mental state became increasingly unstable after realizing she would have to face serious consequences. >> I get it. Sort of comes with the territory, right? You're an adult, you made an adult decision. There's not a whole lot more that I can do for you there, okay? >> You know how long I should usually sit for this one probation violation? I mean, it's going to be more than one, isn't it? >> I don't know how this is going to work. Again, I'm not an expert I'm not an Yeah, I'll let you make any phone calls that you want, but uh I'm not an expert on that. >> kids all tucked in and they are so sad. Dianna, I'm going to be in there for a long time. I don't Can I write your phone number down? >> We'll We'll get phone numbers and everything for people you can contact. >> Do you think you can at least have the groceries paid for? >> Yes, we already got that situated. >> What What we're going to do at this point right now, I'm not going to put you in handcuffs at the moment. >> Okay. >> I'm going to let you tell your kids that they're going to be staying the night with her. >> Where do you want me to just take them? I want to tell them goodbye. >> Okay. >> I mean, I I did I honestly forgot I'm trying to so I I I was waiting for them. Like I even offered to pay for it. I mean, I know I probably I probably cuz I'm on this fly away so you want to take me to jail. I'm sorry. I'm having a lot of anxiety. Mom! I'm going to jail. Because I forgot to do it because I was just getting some of Walmart. I honestly forgot to scan something because the kids were distracting me and they got me and because I'm on probation so they're taking me to jail. >> Can you keep it down just a little bit you might wake them up. >> It's okay. I'm with Dianna. Dianna has the kids but there's no way to get around it because I'm on probation. I'm going to end up I'm going to spend a lot of time in jail. What I'm Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. >> She blamed the companion for her situation and called for her mother after being detained, taking no responsibility for her actions. Police then allowed her to meet a family member to to her calm down. >> Talk to them and say whatever. >> I'm not going to be in there long. I don't have a hold, hopefully. I promise. I don't know. I just All they did is I paid as long as we forgot to save you items, girl. So, do I have the food stamps to pay for them? And I just It's going to be okay in the end. It's going to be okay. I'm sorry, guys. Let me stop crying. You're going to going to take you home with her, okay? So, say I'm sorry. I'm going to ask I'm so I when I get nervous I ask a lot of questions and I'm sorry. >> Sorry. >> So, say I get tomorrow from the judge and they owe or me, is it potential that I'll get out before Delaware County gets me? >> Even if Franklin County did owe or you and you still had stuff in Delaware County, Delaware would would tell them they have to hold you until they pick you up. >> Okay, but I but I should know tomorrow if I have a hold or not, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah, and yeah, and the more >> than likely if I don't get a hold, I should get out tomorrow. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, I mean I'm hoping fingers crossed that that's the case. I mean, honestly, I I've been I was addicted to I've been clean a year. When I was in my active addiction, I did rob stores. I'm not going to lie to you. And I mean, I've I've been a whole year no new charges, no nothing. And now my child is getting returned. I mean, that that just crushed me because I'm really not a bad mom. I just got nervous. You know, I mean, I've been homeless and staying with my best friend for a while, you know. >> We'll we'll talk to you more about that. >> Yeah, I'm sorry. I don't When I get nervous, I just seem to talk a lot, so um >> So, your your warrants aren't good. >> Okay. >> Um you're still going to be under arrest cuz you're on probation. We can't just issue a summons and trust that you'll come back. >> I have to sit in jail until the mayor's court? >> Yep. >> So, as long as Delaware County doesn't place a hold on her tonight >> Immediately after the police placed her in handcuffs, yet there was still no sign of remorse. She continued talking about her probation, seemingly only to appear as if she genuinely cared about it. >> We're going to use several sets of cuffs on you. >> I don't know which officer's taking me. I know you wrote the numbers down. >> definitely not me. >> Um can I have the paper that you wrote the numbers down if you don't take me? >> Yeah, I'll go. You'll go with me. Um we're going to walk over to my car, though. >> Thank you for being cooperative. I'm sorry, but >> Listen, our job is just going the law, not to be jerks or >> No, I know. And I I I mean it wasn't >> I I think you made a bad decision tonight. >> I do. And I'm I mean I guess I'm going to spend the night in jail over it, you know. I just get I get so nervous in stores like I still have a hard time going into stores just cuz of my prior, you know, addiction, you know. >> Did you Have you been stopped at this one before? >> Years and years and years ago. And I think that was part of the reason why I got a little nervous cuz I didn't want to get You know what I mean? >> I think you have a trespass from Walmart. >> Okay. >> it's this one through us, so I You're not going to get a trespass >> Okay. >> from us. >> To be honest, I think that's why it kicked off cuz I didn't I knew that I was one from the other ones, but I didn't You know, but I >> They they they say, you know, like the Columbus stores anything that's Columbus police we're going to go charge with trespassing. If it's through us, we have to actually trespass you. >> It's Monday, right? >> Yeah, Monday the 25th. >> So, you'll see a judge on Monday. >> In the end, the woman was convicted of theft and child endangerment charges. Avoiding responsibility, blaming others, and acting dishonestly only makes the situation worse. When facing mistakes, being honest and cooperating with authorities is the only way to reduce consequences and protect those involved, especially children. Next, the 54-year-old nurse's deception was so blatant that it came across as a childish trick. >> Things in this slipping out. >> How old are you? >> 21 years. >> The reason you lied to me was cuz you got a warning, you know you got a warning. For shoplifting. >> On the 30th of October, 2024, police were dispatched to a retail store after receiving a report of a theft. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect was approached by officers, and this was what happened next. >> Put her down. Did you steal anything, miss? >> No. >> Did you take anything in there? >> Did you take anything, Corporal Patrick? >> No, ma'am. >> Corporal, are there any earrings or jewelry in your in your bag? >> No, I'm waiting. Okay, can I search your bag? >> Mhm, you can search it. >> Got to be quicker than that. They don't sell by brick or mass. Show me your ID. Your ID, ma'am. >> My ID? >> Yes, your ID. >> I got it in my wallet. >> Oh, yeah. We $18. >> I got that. I know I got it. >> You just You just wanted it. >> I just seen it and I seen it in the house. It's in there. >> How old are you? >> The 54-year-old nurse believed her accidental claim could deceive the police, but with a stable job, her true motive was immediately questioned by officers. >> So, you got a good job. So, why the nonsense? >> I was hungry. >> What's that? >> You needed something to eat. It was >> Who? You can't you You can't eat this. Tell me you weren't going to try and eat this, were you? >> No, I was going to sell it. I was going to sell it. Are they ours? >> Are they ours? >> Yeah. >> To what car? >> This This here is to the um to the storage. That's to the storage. >> Do you have a remote lock to your storage? >> Yeah. No, no, no, no. I'm not talking about the remote. This is not mine. This is my >> What is this? What are you What are you a Lexus? >> Yes. >> Where is it? >> Sir. >> Where's your Lexus? >> This here because we to the store. That's what I was telling you. >> What year is your license? >> This year is a 2010. >> 2010 license? >> Yes. >> I wonder if that car back there with the the guy sitting in it by himself is uh >> It was clear that multiple details pointed to the woman being involved in a larger stolen goods and fraud operation, and officers even uncovered numerous documents that supported that conclusion. >> Who's GG Campbell? >> I don't know anybody. >> Who is GG Campbell? >> I don't know who that belongs to. >> You were sitting right here, so don't even try and say that you didn't just dump these behind you. >> So, who is this? >> No. >> Who is this? >> No. >> Cuz you know what? We all have the same birthday except me. >> What I tell you about lying to me? >> I'm Maria Brown. >> I didn't lie to you. >> Oh, hell. >> I didn't lie to you. >> Look, look, this you right now. >> I I >> You digging? And it's me right here. I'm giving you the rope. You going to help me out? Help me help you? Where did these come from? I told you what my philosophy is on this. You work with me, I work with you, as best I can. But, we're about at that line, and you about falling over that line. >> Damn. >> Who is this? Says you? Huh? She's your sister? Okay, so why do you have your sister's stuff? Why did you give us your sister's information? That's why you said you didn't have ID, and then you dumped this. >> No, I'm sorry. I didn't give them all of her sister's stuff. >> All right, I'm going to go run this. When this comes back and this is you, >> I'm Maria Brown. >> Okay. I'm right here. And it was in her wallet. >> The woman appeared extremely nervous when confronted by the police, further reinforcing the suspicion that she was lying. However, she quickly came up with excuses when officers questioned her condition. >> What? >> Anxiety. >> Oh, anxiety. >> Um depression. I live off the thrill of stealing stuff. >> Depression. >> So, wait. >> Depression. >> Depression. >> Um >> Yeah, we're cops. We all got it. >> No, sir. I take Um >> You need to just calm yourself down, Ms. Campbell. >> Please, please. >> I I take high blood pressure medication. I take I take Super Night Quinsy while I'm drinking. >> So, Ms. Campbell >> I take >> See, now you just responded to it. This is you. The person you gave us driver's license don't even look like you. The reason you lied to me was cuz you got a warrant. You know you got a warrant. For shoplifting. Tell me I'm wrong. >> What? >> Ms. GG Campbell, you got a warrant for your arrest out of Douglas County for the same thing you doing right now. So, I told you I'd work with you if you was real with me, but you lied to me along the whole the whole time. So, what I need you to do is I need you to stand up and place your hands behind your back, Ms. Campbell. >> I thought >> You face me. Just place your hands behind your back. Yeah, I'll hold that for you. Or just put it right there. >> Damn thing right. >> An officer visited nearby stores to gather additional information about the woman, and everything found only further reinforced the conclusion that she was a serial shoplifter. >> 12:30. >> Okay. Did you see her in your store earlier today? >> Hey. It's possible. >> Yeah. >> No, y'all have a good one. >> good day. Well, she's got a whole bunch of your products and no receipt. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> And she just stole from a couple other stores, so I just was trying to see if she stole from another store. >> To be honest, I do believe I saw her. >> Okay. >> But I >> Is there anybody else who's been here for a little bit? >> She's already left. >> Okay, she's here. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Well, I >> I am having a spot that that there was a lady that was shopping in here that I didn't see check out and then when I went towards the back and then I didn't see her again. >> Yeah, she does. Okay. Okay. Awesome. Thank you. I think See all the bag right here? Well, I don't think that's all that I could do. Cracker Barrel Waffle House So, her mask how much stuff did he Well, This is Oh, yeah. Did we Did they give you the criminal trespass warning yet? >> No. >> No, no. He's by me too. >> it to you tomorrow. She'll be in jail still. >> She was charged with serial shoplifting, fraud, and the unlawful use of personal information and documents during the commission of her offenses. With multiple sources of evidence from stores and investigators, any attempt to deny the actions was quickly disproven, leading to harsher legal consequences and the complete loss of any chance for a more lenient resolution. Next, the man ultimately exposed himself due to his poor ability to maintain consistent lies. >> I passed recently. >> Yeah, I know that. >> She put she's in the hospital. >> In the In the morgue, I guess. >> I already don't even know his name, bro. >> No? Where'd you meet him? On the streets. >> On the 26th of February, 2026, the police received a call from a bank reporting that they had been receiving spam calls from a man demanding money transfers and claiming to be the account owner without verifying his identity. To clarify this further, listen to the statement from this employee. >> The one who called you non-stop asking to transfer a certain amount. I'm like, "Okay, well, we can do this transfer over the phone. You know, to you. You have to come into the branch and do everything else, whatever. So, he hung up. Okay, he calls again. He's been calling nonstop. So, I'm like, all right. I said, "Listen, you have to come in." First of all, the the no the his voice does not sound like an 78-year-old. Sounds like a really young person. So, that was the first thing I caught him like, "This That voice does not match you like this age." Then, they called again. So, apparently, they just went to another branch in Lake Worth. They were not able to get get the ID. And he walked in. This guy pretending to be him. >> Do you have a picture of the person? >> Oh, the real one? Well, the real one I just contact I've been calling him. He doesn't answer. I called the branch that he usually visits and I was talking to the manager of the banker. And I'm like, "Hey, how does he look like?" So, she started describing to him and he's I'm like, "That's definitely not him. The ID is clearly fake." And she's been calling the real customer. He's not answering either. And this guy went and told the people in Lake Worth, "Oh, yeah, my wife is going to come in to do the changes to to update the phone number." The real Mr. Ortiz's wife passed away. So, we put two and two together and he called the branch right now saying >> Huh? No, I didn't tell him nothing. He called the branch right now saying, "Oh, I'm heading to you guys so you can make the changes for me." I said, "Sure, I'll be here." >> So, the suspect attempted to withdraw money from what he claimed was his late wife's account. But when questioned about her condition, he repeatedly changed his statements, making the entire situation increasingly suspicious. >> Uh where's your wife at? >> My wife's in a Huntsville. >> She's in a hospital? >> Yes. >> Got you. All right. Well, uh She passed recently? >> Yeah, I know that. >> But she's in Huntsville? >> In the in the morgue again. >> Got you. >> Listen, man. I'm not I'm not accusing tell you what to do with your phone. All right? I got sent in here by somebody else. I'm coming here to do this for him, and that's it. Okay? >> Got you. >> I'm not trying to take anything from nobody. He sent me in here to do the stupid ass phone change, and I was like >> All right. >> Okay? I'm not trying to take nothing. I ain't trying to get nothing. But he wanted me to get the phone changed for him. >> Got you. >> So. >> So, man, you came in here to collect a $20,000 cashier's >> No, I didn't collect >> You were trying to. >> No. I'm not trying to do nothing. >> When did I come back? >> No, I'm just cleaning right now. >> All right. He's not involved in anything. >> I just picked him up. >> Okay, then. At this point, her arrest was inevitable due to her involvement in the theft. But, when officers began mentioning her belongings, she seemed more concerned about them than the crime she had committed. All right. Well, we'll probably have to tow your car, then. >> Why you going to tow my car? Can you get somebody to come and get it? >> We ain't got nobody to come get it. >> Yes, I do. Appreciate it. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft. Taking responsibility early could have reduced the consequences, but denying and shifting blame only made the situation worse and destroyed her credibility. Next, this pursuit proved to be just as dramatic as the last. >> Yo, stop. >> On December 14th, 2024, officers received a call from Target reporting an active theft in progress. The suspects were confirmed to be one male and one female. When they arrived on scene, everything immediately escalated into tension from the very first moments. >> Yo, stop. You're going to get tased. Get on the [ __ ] ground. >> Okay, okay. >> Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. Get on the ground. >> Okay. >> I'm here. Thank you, bro. >> You're going in there? >> They showed no sign of remorse. In stark contrast to their attitude, the employee proceeded to give a full statement of the entire incident. >> a phone call from loss prevention on the first floor and I seen a Hispanic female with a large bag taking a selection of small selection of merchandise. I was watching her for a little bit. Walked away. Met up with her again at 5:00 and she was still actually in the more selection of bigger items. From there, I put her on security camera and I watched her again. I was mainly watching her with the rest of the five other employees and she was walking around the store just grabbing stuff. I guess she was She must have been looking for somebody else because I forgot what she was looking for. Um then at one point she went to the back and there was a man back there with his two carts from the main floor. Um then I seen her and the man and she started talking. Both of them had a Hispanic male. Um he has a cart for his stuff as well. They go with me though. I seen them both loading stuff into separate carts. So she hid her cart in the men's department. So he walked around the store and got one more thing and they kind of both went to that one department. Um then they went to the men's area where they both put their carts down and they were walking around that area grabbing multiple items putting them into the carts. Then at one point um they both go into a enclosed aisle and you can see her concealing the merchandise into like this white tote that was in the cart. Um then something else went into her personal bag. So they both kind of stayed there and kind of walked around the area while she was concealing stuff. Grabbed stuff and put it into his cart. Um then they both grabbed they both got two separate and pushed towards the grocery side. So, they walked out past my car. >> It's not It didn't work out. >> Returning to the suspects, the store made its decision regarding their fate. Even the officers realized that the man was involved in separate unrelated cases. >> All right, guys. I'm going to tell you one time. Make sure this is the correct info, okay? If it's not, it's another charge. So, think about it. Is that your correct names and date of births? >> Yeah. >> Positive? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cuz we're going to double-check and if it's not >> How about you? Is that the correct information? >> No, no, it's not. >> Okay, so please give him the correct information, okay? Work with us here, okay? >> Yeah, sorry. >> What was your name and your last name? >> After taxes, $1,456. >> What's the before tax? >> B A >> $1,361. 64. >> All right, so I have to deal with them cuz he's on something, clearly. And we don't need him passing out. >> No, he's got >> You can take him now. >> I'm crack paraphernalia. That's what he's got. The little brush he's got. >> You want to charge him with that? >> Oh, it doesn't have any crack. It's just residue. It's actually clean. I'm not sure. I'm asking you. >> It's up to you. You can charge him for it. It's paraphernalia. >> The he man was found guilty of robbery and aggravated grand retail theft. The female suspect was charged with felony retail theft. However, her case was ultimately dismissed. Greed and teamwork in crime did not make them smarter, it only multiplied the consequences. One reckless decision inside a store turned into felony convictions, jail time. More surprisingly, the man believed he was smart enough to outsmart the police. >> Whatever it is, put it on the hood. >> I paid for these. I paid for it. >> Put it on the hood. >> On January 2nd, 2024, police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a theft where the suspect was identified as a man who attempted to flee on a bicycle after stealing lottery tickets from a gas station. This was what happened when officers approached the suspect. >> How you doing, sir? Do you have any weapons or anything on you? Where you coming from tonight? Okay. Lay Lay the bike down right there. Come over here in my car real quick. Whatever you took it Whatever you took from the store, put it on my on my hood of my car. >> This is all This is all I took from the store. I am not. What do you mean they're in my pockets? I paid for these. What? >> It seemed that the man appeared cooperative, but in reality he was only acting superficially and the officers recognized this and bluntly warned him. >> Stop playing, dude. If you you going you on the way downhill at this point in time. Put whatever Whatever you took from the store on top of the hood and we'll be good. All right. >> I paid for these. >> Whatever Whatever it is, put it on the hood. >> I paid for these. I paid for it. >> Put it on the hood. >> I paid for it. >> That's it? >> I ain't got nothing else in my pockets. >> Put it on the hood. >> I don't have nothing else in my pockets. >> Okay. Let's Let me play your game with you. All right. Tell you what. Put the book bag on the hood. All right. So, you got the the book bag here. >> Yes. >> Right? Put your glasses on the hood. All right, so you don't have nothing else in your pockets. >> My phone. >> All All put that on the hood. How many pairs of pants you got on? >> Two. >> All right, all right, so let me let me ask a more Let me ask a more specific question. What's in your other pants pocket? >> Nothing. >> Come on, man. Come on, empty that out. >> Nothing. Nothing. >> That was why the officers had to make sure he took everything out of his pockets to ensure he wasn't carrying anything dangerous. Shortly after, the officers proceeded with their actions before bringing up the reason for the encounter. >> All right, so what's going to happen is if everything you told me turns out to be true, I'm going to take these right off of you and I'm going to send you on your way. But for the moment, we're just going to sit here and wait. So, let me ask you this question. How many lottery tickets did you buy? >> I don't I don't even remember. >> All right, so how much money did you spend? >> Over $30. >> How much? >> Over $30. >> Over $30. So, you're saying that you bought these? >> Yes. >> All right. So, what about the lottery tickets that's down the front of your pants? What about those? >> They were purchased. >> So, there's no reason why the business owner says that he was just robbed by a black male with red pants. >> He completely denied all the accusations raised against him, but that was entirely a lie as shortly after another officer arrived at the store to find evidence through the surveillance cameras. >> Do you know how to work it? >> I never done it, but it's not really hard. Yeah, it'll be >> It was clear that everything had fully exposed his actions and at that moment the value of what he had taken was also determined by the employee. >> Do you know how much we're at we're up as far as how much how many he's taken or >> I think it's less than it's still it's less than $500. I'm sure he >> Less than $500? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'm about to go meet up with them. >> Will they hold him somewhere? >> Yeah, we got him. So, like I said, we just have to positively identify. >> No, no, no, that's why I say I I I didn't panic. I didn't rush, but >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, you're going to bring him here? >> We're not going to bring him I don't think we're going to bring him here, but let me go talk to them and see. >> No, people I I make sure I want to see what's going on because we have to verify. You know? >> Did you see the guy? That's the right guy? You see him? >> Yeah, the one who was reaching over and yeah, that's >> Is it possible to You can zoom one time, so >> What? I'm sorry. >> You can't bring him back? >> No, if if he's going to go, he's going to go. Um as far as going to go straight to jail. Let me go talk to them. I'll be right back. >> Okay. >> Returning to the suspect, the officers proceeded to recover the lottery tickets, and it seemed there were still more surprises coming from his backpack. >> 7 8 9 9 * 3? >> Should be like 10 in total or something. >> This is So, he did break the $500 limit then. >> Oh, yeah. >> Oh, man. Wait, wait, wait, what's this? >> Looks like a little bit of crystal. >> Yeah. >> You're not getting a citation. You're going to jail. >> I know I am. >> So, you're in possession of lottery tickets that equated to more than $500, so it's a felony. And you're being charged with possession of a controlled substance, also a felony. >> What controlled substance? >> I'm suspecting that it's going to be crystal meth. Um however, we got to do preliminary drug test, and we're going to do that. >> The man was charged with theft by shoplifting involving property exceeding $500, constituting a felony, along with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, also a felony. Lying and trying to hide the truth only made the situation worse, turning a smaller offense into serious felony charges.
