[music] >> Hello Mesa. As we celebrate the holiday season, we want everyone to enjoy fireworks safely. >> And we want to remind everyone that [music] fireworks come with an important safety requirement and legal responsibility. >> That's why the Mesa Fire Medical Department and the Mesa Police Department are working together to keep our community safe this holiday season. Every year our crews respond to preventable firework related injuries and fires. The most common injuries involve burns to the hands and the face, which many can be serious and life-changing. Even sparklers, which are often viewed as harmless, can burn at extremely high temperatures and cause [music] serious injuries if not handled correctly. Never allow children to play with or ignite any fireworks, including sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000° hot enough to melt some metals. Always use legal consumer fireworks, follow the manufacturer's instructions, dispose of them properly by keeping a bucket of water or a hose nearby. And use them in accordance with state and local laws in a clear area away from homes, vehicles, and dry vegetation. We also see fires caused by the use of illegal fireworks and improper use of fireworks near combustible materials. A few moments of carelessness can quickly lead to an emergency. >> [music] >> It is also important to know the law. Not all fireworks are legal in Arizona, and even legal consumer fireworks may only be used during designated dates established by state law. Using prohibited fireworks or using fireworks outside of [music] the allowed periods can result in enforcement action. We also encourage our residents to be considered of our veterans, neighbors, [music] pets, and others who may be impacted by excessive or unsafe firework use. One of the safest ways to celebrate is by attending a professional fireworks display in our own community. >> We want everyone to enjoy the holidays and return home safely. >> [music] >> By following the laws and using fireworks safely, we We help avoid fires, injuries, and emergencies.
