hello my name is Frank Milstead and I'm the police chief of the city of Mesa uh we are here to answer the ice challenge uh which was uh bestowed upon me by my uh Pio Sergeant Tony lado soon to be officer Tony lado uh there's a demotion or fire incoming after this I don't know exactly where this all started but over the last several months the ice challenge has kind of swept its way across the country and police departments and fire departments Across the Nation and particularly here in Arizona a uh they have been placing challenges on their friends I use friends Loosely because anybody that gets this challenge uh I think they become an ex- buddy but uh it's to bring attention to uh the work that uh Public Safety officials do particularly police and fire uh and at this point it's uh it's about bringing people in the community together to recognize the hard work they do and the sacrifice that's made and in this point to raise money for the 100 Club of Arizona The 100 Club of Arizona has had an incredibly difficult year uh with what has happened in Yarnell and what has happened here locally with uh with our police officers uh this was a way to raise some money I think we've raised over $1,000 doll today for um this challenge to be met that Tony lado had uh put out from the Mesa Police Department for me the chief to go into the pool of water uh I want to put a big thanks out to we fix ugly pools they brought this whole uh uh setup here uh this is probably more than I originally imagined I was going to do the uh the chief Tim Dorne from Gilbert PD uh easy out and just let people dump water on me and Tim I don't want to tell you that what you did wasn't big but it wasn't big this is big uh so uh and when Tim called me out um I sent him a message that he was dead to me uh because I don't talk to Tim anymore I don't talk to Tony lado but here's the deal I'm going to do the plunge I don't like cold water I actually live in Arizona for a reason but I want to mention a couple of my close friends who I would like to challenge to continue this and to raise some more money for the hunter club uh when I was called out a friend of mine from Phoenix PD uh assistant chief Harry Markley sent me some texts uh and thought it was really funny well Harry game on buddy it's you second thing uh there's a new Chief in the East Valley uh he's a friend formerly probably after this moment uh Sean dougen from Chandler PD Chief Dugen let's get in the water buddy uh and then finally I I hated not to bring and here we are looking at fire trucks I hated not to bring some of our brothers and sisters from the fire department into the fold uh a dear friend of mine from Phoenix fire chief Cara brener Cara it's time to get wet get in the pool and finally uh Harry Beck Meson fire department buddy uh you need to get cold so uh there's my four I know I get five I might just keep one in reserve for later uh but for those who've donated for the commitment from this uh this city uh for the help to the hunter club and uh and really thanks for the media to be out here and cover this because the money that we raise really is for a worthy cause and that's to help those people that are uh in times of need and the need doesn't get any worse than when you've been critically injured or one of your family members has been killed in the line of duty so uh thanks to the hunter club for the continued support and thanks Sharon for what you do all right let's get this over [Music] with okay I did not swear holy mother okay it's cold was I completely submerged you are completely submerged all right Challenge and Harry Markley Harry Markley assistant chief Phoenix PD Cara brener Chief Fire Department Phoenix and Harry Beck please come and take the challenge raise a little money for the hunter club and I'm telling you it is freaking cold
