Before [Music] I came out to Mesa, I was a Chicago police officer for almost 5 years. Before that, I was a deputy sheriff in Cook County. I chose Mesa because of the opportunity for growth, great city, great department, great leadership, and overall a nice place to work, and potentially a nice place to raise a family for me. >> We got a two vehicle accident that occurred in the intersection. Um, so we're pretty close. We're going to respond to it, see how we can help. >> Where should we block? Where should we block? >> I would block here and then I can do traffic control. Yeah, here's her. >> Can you Can she hear? >> No, they're they're both deaf. They both sign. >> Can ask her if she's okay. >> You okay? >> Her neck is what hurts. >> Okay, babe. No. Come on. >> Okay. I got her. I got her. >> Okay. >> Come on. >> Come on. >> Come on. All right. All right, we're going to go across the street. Okay. >> Yep. >> Yeah. [Music] >> Okay. We're going to have her have a seat right here. Okay. >> She can sit. >> I got her. I got her. >> Do you want to lay down? Just lay down. >> You want to lay back? >> You're good. >> I'll hold her up. >> Okay. >> You want to lay down? Okay. So, they were both involved. They're both ASL only. He says he's okay. >> She's She's not saying if she's okay or not. >> I can only ask him if they're okay. >> Okay, >> that's it. >> All right. So, it looks like we've got the two vehicles that collided in the intersection. I've got one driver that's getting checked out by fire. He's got some injuries right now. We've got a lot of traffic congestion at the intersection. So, I'm trying to manage the traffic to make sure that everyone can get through safely. and I've got other units that are coming that are going to help me do that. Initially, upon arrival, there was a language barrier. Uh the subjects in the white car right here, both only spoke sign language, ASL only. Okay. >> Uh with a little bit of ASL, I do know I was able to determine that the male was okay. When I asked the female if she was okay, she didn't give a response. So, uh she's being transported to Banner Desert Hospital for an evaluation. She had some pain in her side. Uh I think both sides, some burns from the seat belt and the airbag. The driver seemed to be okay. He didn't have any visible injuries. So, he's going to go with her to the hospital. That's his wife. Make sure she's okay. >> Were you able to see kind of like what happened to >> the driver of the white car uh told me that he was setting up to go southbound on Stapley from Southern when the vehicle, this white pickup truck was headed eastbound and collided with him. said he was the white truck was driving really fast >> and uh just collided with the side of him and spun him around. >> So, >> it's it's dangerous, especially during rush hour. >> This is one of our busier intersections. We get a lot of collisions here. Uh and like like I said earlier, you know, traffic enforcement is is a big deal for me because of the amount of collisions we have in Mesa. Uh busier intersections and people just need to yield, you know, when they go through these intersections. It's busy. It's rush hour. So >> yeah, >> I'm glad everyone is okay and we'll get these vehicles towed out of here. >> So we were going to go talk to this guy that we saw. He was originally walking on the sidewalk. As this traffic's flowing through, we saw him walking through the street. >> Sit down. >> Keep your hands up. Move over. >> It's on video. >> Sit down on your >> No, I'm not walking around with I'm taking I'm taking it to a friend of mine. >> Sit down. >> I'm taking it to a friend of mine. He told me to give it back. >> Sit down. >> So I'm taking it back to him. Sit down. >> You got a bad hand and a machete. Sit down. Okay. >> Well, I'm taking that back to you. >> Sit on your butt. >> Just sit down. We're going to have a conversation. Okay. >> That's all I'm doing. I'm just taking it back. You told me. You asked me about it. So, I don't want to carry >> on your head. I'm pat you down. >> You got a big machete and a a bat on you. Okay. Any firearms on you? >> No, I don't. >> Any needles? Anything sharp? >> No, I don't. >> Sit back so I can see your waistband. >> I'm just taking it back. That's what I'm doing. >> Why you carrying a big machete around? >> Because I'm taking it back to my friend. He asked for it back. So, I'm taking it back. >> Charger. Take it out of my pocket. >> Okay. >> No more weapons on you. >> No more weapons. It's all weak. It's a weak. >> Okay. You don't have anything crazy on you, right? You have any dope on you? >> No. No. That's it. >> Okay. >> I'm just taking that back to my friend. >> Take it out of your pocket. Okay. >> Good. Take take it out. That's all I'm doing. I'm just taking it back cuz he asked for it. >> Is this like a >> That's nothing. >> We stopped because you were jaywalking in the street. Okay. >> All right. It wasn't because I had that. >> Well, that was a cause for concern, but >> I didn't I didn't even see that. >> That's a big machete in your hand, man. You said your friend wanted you to bring this back to him. >> Yeah. >> Where did you get it from? >> He he he gave it to me cuz he was going to court. So I mean he just told me to [ __ ] give it back to him >> knowing you have >> Was he the one that just got got hooked up because of this? >> No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Cuz he let me use it and he was giving it back. >> Was he the one that was threatening someone with it? >> No. That was a dude that stayed in that land right there in his truck right here. Okay. >> Let me give it back. I was giving it back. >> Okay. You going to use it? >> Use it for what? >> To chop down a tree. >> Y chopping down some roots. >> Using that to chop down roots. >> Yeah. >> So, it's real. >> Real. >> I S R A E L. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Talked to him before. >> How long you lived there? >> Uh, for a long time. >> Okay. Have I talked to you before? Do you recognize me? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> We stopped him for jaywalking. There were vehicles passing. They had to go around him as he was walking down the street. >> Uh that's a cause for to to stop a subject. And uh it's actually a ticketable arrestable thing. >> So be straight with me, man. Were you really bringing that back or were you taking it back? Can you scrap it? >> Does he know you have it? >> Yeah. Okay. >> He's on the case cuz he's going to scrap. It's scrap metal. He's like, "All right, cool." >> Okay. >> You get stopped all the time for jaywalking. >> Yeah. >> What should we not do anymore? >> JW. >> Exactly. Then you won't even have to talk to us, right? >> Yep. >> All right. Uh, so we're going to sit your machete far away, like across the street. >> Don't go over there and get it until we leave. Okay. >> And your back. We're going to take >> You said you were going to put it in this truck anyway, right? >> I'm going to put it on the wheel well and then you can throw it in the truck. So, he's got a machete, a very dull but no handle machete, and then a kids baseball bat that was concealed in his black sweatshirt. So, that's what he was carrying around. And when we contacted him, he dropped him and then we were able to remove it. Good thing he put him down. >> You have any questions for us? >> No. >> All right. You're free to go. You can grab your jacket. >> All right. Cool. All right. >> Thank you. >> Wait till we leave to go over there and retrieve those belongings. Okay. I was just I was just giving you >> Okay. >> All right. Good luck to you. >> All right. Good luck to you. >> 4886. >> All right. So, there's a shoplift at the Goodwill up here. Um, we happen to be close, so we're in the parking lot now. We're going to head over there and see if we can help out with the officers that were dispatched. >> Walking over there. Is it? >> And they're walking in the parking lot now. The concealed items are in a black purse. The male has a bright red backpack. Y >> they're going southbound in the parking lot towards parking. >> I didn't do anything. I found a seat. >> Okay. Knife in your pocket. Put your hands on top of your head. Kick your leg out. >> She just bought that for me. That's what she bought. >> That's fine. I don't want you having this weapon on you while I'm talking to you. Does it make sense? >> Yes. Just >> keep your hands on your head. Okay. Yes, sir. >> Bring this left. Bring this right arm down and take this backpack off you. Okay. >> All right. >> Just keep your arm extended out like that. >> No firearms on you, right? >> No, sir. >> Bring your arm back. >> Don't reach for anything. Okay. >> Loosen it. >> You got it up tight or what? >> Yeah. Yeah. Thank you, sir. I didn't steal anything. So, >> you didn't take anything? >> No. >> Okay. I'm just going to set that up. >> All right. >> Okay. >> Tell me what's going on, man. >> Nothing. I just was I just found this and she bought it from me. That was it, bro. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, we got a call that you guys were inside of the store concealing merchandise or anything like that? >> No, I would. >> Do you have any merchandise from Goodwill? >> No, you can look back at all. >> Go ahead and look. >> Nothing in your backpack? >> Nothing in my backpack, sir. Go ahead and look. >> All right. You have an ID? >> You got warrants? >> No, I don't. >> You have an ID? Yeah. >> Is your ID issued out of Arizona? >> Yes. >> What's your first name? >> N A R I E. >> Right now, we're conducting warrant checks on both of them. Both of them. Well, the male said that he didn't conceal any merchandise in his in his bags at all. He gave us permission to look. >> Um he didn't mention anything about her, but he's just saying I didn't take anything um just with her. So, right now, and she also pulled out merchandise that she says she took from the store. So, right now, we're going to determine if they're wanted subjects or not, and then reach out to our reporting party who's the manager of Goodwill and see if they like to prosecution. >> She's got a 38 out of Ohio, negative for extradition, too far away. >> Okay. >> So, she's got a non-extraditable warrant out of another state. And what about >> he's clear? >> Okay. >> We got uh a couple other guys checking with the RP, see what they want to do. Okay. >> But yeah, we we'll end up seeing >> and so so uh the girl here said that, you know, first she said that she didn't take anything and then she she said that she did and she has some clothing items. What did the guy say? >> He didn't take anything at all. >> Okay. >> He said I didn't I didn't I just was in there with her. I don't have anything. I didn't take anything. >> Okay. Did he know? Did he say anything like he knew she took stuff or >> No. Hey, sleepwalking. You never know. No one can stay awake for 20 days. >> Yeah. >> You think so? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. >> Back in I don't know about right like right now like cuz I haven't done it for a long ass time but like back in the day. Yeah. Just about >> 20 days. >> Just about 15 20 days. Yeah. >> You >> I swear to God >> you probably fell asleep and didn't know you fell asleep. >> No way. You're going to be receiving a citation today just like we talked about. Just going to be for shoplifting, just for the things that you took. We're not going to get you the whole concealing all that just for taking the merchandise past the point of sale. Okay? So, by signing right here, it's not an admission of guilt. It's just saying that you're going to show up to court, which is going to be on November 11th. >> The victim in this case wanted to not only trespass them, but also prosecute for the shoplift. Uh, so the female did get a criminal citation for shoplifting and they both were trespassed from the property. So, she'll have a court date. She'll get to um, you know, have her time in front of the judge. [Applause] [Music]
