South Carolina traffic was interrupted by a silver pickup truck on July 24th, 2024. A state trooper noticed the erratic behavior and decided to investigate why the driver was playing bumper cars with the local scenery. >> These are too fast right now. If you want to take primary and I'll drop back one J ball road down to 48 primary run with B62. Show me his primary. >> She tried. She hit us. Hit B31. that traffic me on the rear. Another unit up here. >> Spike, spike, spike, spike, spike. Get out of the mother. It's clear. It's clear. It's clear. >> The driver was promptly invited to the Saluda County Detention Center after her truck was towed from the scene. She received a personalized reading of her Miranda rights as her mystery cocktail was analyzed by the authorities. It seems her evening plans were traded for a governmentissued bunk and a very long court date. The scenic route through Monroe County became a high-speed disaster on August 25th, 2023. The local prosecutor is currently reviewing the extensive damage he caused across multiple counties. Eight different law enforcement agencies are coordinating to ensure his future stays strictly behind bars. July 2nd, 2024 found a stolen children's hospital van wandering aimlessly through the streets of Hollywood. It appears the driver missed the memo that stolen vehicle and conspicuous white bus are a poor combination for a getaway. And now we're getting back onto the freeway. This really appears that this driver uh has no idea where they're going. They they are uh using various freeways, various on-ramps and off-ramps and just appears to be out for almost a joy ride. Just enjoying his last few minutes of uh freedom. Now we're back on that southbound 170 freeway and swerving. Oh, on the right side off the shoulder and now we're off-roading in this bus that is clearly not supposed to be off-roading off the freeway. I'm not sure if there's a curb there. And the bus hops the curb almost like it's no big deal. Uh oh. Going the wrong way on that off-ramp. There's oncoming traffic. That's a very narrow off-ramp. Cars swerving to avoid this gigantic bus. And these cars have no idea that this bus is coming right towards them. Thankfully, I don't think the bus made impact with uh many of those vehicles. Although that was a very close call. We're going the wrong way on uh Victory Bullving through the intersection a little bit probably because of that traffic in front of them. Archwood and Welby very residential late in the afternoon on a summer night. Uh you have to wonder if uh people will be out in the street just enjoying the evening and officers now catching up on the ground. Archwood and Witet Avenue. Now, those officers on the ground want to stay close behind this bus because of the erratic nature and the erratic driving that we've been seeing so far. They want to make sure that everybody around this bus knows that there's something going on. There's something uh about this bus that needs to be avoided. Van Owen westbound now. You have that one LAPD unit and more even further back trying to catch up. But right now it's just that one LAPD unit behind the bus that's p driver has loved driving in bike lanes which is very strange. So that was a little uh a little interesting. Making a right turn on our Mena. What do you got? Oh, I see. So, Armenta, I don't know if it's a dead Yeah. Well, that's a dead end street. And the bus is coming to a stop. The driver out of the bus, he has got a backpack on and he's just going to run away. He's going to leave the bus in the middle of Armenta Street in Panorama City. He's walking towards the Home Depot. This is a Home Depot that's open at this time and walks into the garden center like no big deal. The suspect has left the bus, walked into the Home Depot, and is now walking through the garden center. Rob push into the garden center there. He So, he did make the left turn and walk inside the actual store part of the Home Depot. So, he's no longer in that garden center. And you can see those LAPD units pulling up right away. I see one LAPD unit so far. Hopefully more are on the way. Those couple of officers walking in the garden center. I've got one eye on the uh exit. The suspect got out of the just parked in the middle of the street. Got out of the bus and walked into this Home Depot through the garden center. We do understand that officers were able to make their way into the garden center and they have made contact with the suspect. They are taking him into custody right now and we are waiting to see when they pull this suspect out of the store. You have more LAPD officers making their way to the scene right now. And there you have somebody in custody in handcuffs. Looks like the uh that person may have shedded their yellow jacket. They were wearing a yellow colored jacket when they ran into the store with a backpack. I don't see the backpack or the yellow cover uh colored jacket anymore, but uh officers believe that this is the person that was uh driving that bus earlier. >> Neighbors in Panorama City can finally breathe a sigh of relief now that the curb hopping nightmare has ended. The local Home Depot garden center is back to selling plants instead of serving as a hideout for unlicensed bus drivers. Residents can now walk their dogs without fearing a weward medical transport in their driveways. A routine day on State Highway 34 turned chaotic on October 5th, 2024. Take her out. Don't let her drive the wrong way like that. >> Hold this channel for him. >> Channel 446. >> You got to Get as soon as you can. You got a track trail coming your way. There's a little driveway that goes to the left. We're in the field to the northwest of that north on 185th and Vista. Okay, we're going back out this driveway back to 185th. Going southbound on 185th. >> Copy. Going back southbound on 185th. >> I don't know if he meant to, but his trunk popped open. >> Copy. Trunk is open. He's slowing down to 40. >> Copy. Yeah, the left side the the passenger side does look a bit flat up front or at least really low. >> Sure. I can't I can't uh I I I can't really make out if it's just because the vantage point that we're at they the back tire obviously is not, but you know when the car is going that slowly, it it makes it all all the tires look like they're um a little wonky, but we Yeah, it looks like it is flat. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, watch for a pit maneuver here. This could be an ideal spot. Uh, he's not going too fast. They're certainly set up for it. Looks like they might do it. Yeah, they're tush. Okay, a pit maneuver. Not super aggressive there, but they did turn it a little bit. Uh, it didn't work. Now he is, you can see the back tires kind of spinning out there. He's trying to get away. He's in the oncoming lanes. Keep that in mind. So, oncoming traffic. Uh, now he's moved over. Uh they may try this again because he's not really moving very fast now. Uh with two flat tires, it's debatable at how much maneuvering he can actually do here. And it's getting worse when it comes to his ability to get away and maneuver. Not sure what's going on in the driver's mind here. I'm sure trying to figure out what to do, but clearly they're not going to get away at this point. They just can't move fast enough any longer. So the CHP is there right behind them. This started with the sheriff's department as a a stolen vehicle and then they transferred it over when it was on the freeway. But now off to Surface Streets now in East Los Angeles. He just turned off of Medford Street. I don't know if that's still Medford. Southbound eastern. And it looks like he's taken a left. I don't know if this is an entry ramp or just a bridge. Getting back on the freeway as that passenger side uh tire just completely disintegrates. There it goes. Now he's on the rim. I don't know what the driver's side tire looks like, but there's no way he's going to be able to maneuver that thing on on steel. All right, you're you're watching our live streaming newscast at 6:30 right now. This is an end of a pursuit. This is happening in Monterey Park. Their front rims are they are on rims basically in the front uh tires because they hit a spike strip earlier and they just hit another spike strip. Now you can see what is this driver going to do? He pulled out something that looked like a long stick. Are you there? >> What we thought may >> Oh, he's breaking the windows, Bruce. >> ASP. He's got an ASP. They're going to break the windows out. >> Yeah, they just did. >> Yeah, that's an ASP, which is like a baton. It's an expandable baton. >> Yeah, I've never actually seen that. I know that's like sounds crazy, but I've never I've never seen um them pull out something like uh Oh, what's that? Oh, he's trying to go. Bruce, his there's lots of there's so much smoke coming from his tires right now. >> He's not going anywhere. >> Y this this guy does not want to give up. [snorts] Um I hate to say this is going to end uh poorly, but uh at this point there's obviously a lot of irrational >> I've never seen. >> The suspect's ability to create massive plumes of smoke suggests he might have a future in theatrical special effects. Unfortunately, his navigation skills led him straight into a dead-end culde-sac with nowhere to run. He will likely spend his next few years honing a different set of skills in a state-run facility.
