Let me ask you this. Yeah. Yeah. Where do you think she is at the moment? Probably dead cuz I have heart problems. Do you actually believe this is 59-year-old Edward Poutenis, an evil man who thinks he can get away with killing his own wife. But in the face of his awful acting, I'm a little frail old man, dude. I don't care if you kill me. Detectives will realize that Edward is anything but a concerned husband. Well, I'm going to ask you. Okay. Did you have anything to do with your wife disappearing? [Music] It's like I don't care what you come up with. There is not a story that gets you out of that. On October 22nd, 2019, Hood County Sheriff's Office rushed to a quaint home in Granbury, Texas to conduct a welfare check. A 29-year-old EMS worker and mother of two Jennifer Poutennis, hadn't shown up to work in several days. Her family, who lived all the way in Florida, had grown concerned, and even more so when her husband, 59-year-old Edward Powenis, told them that she had run off with another man, and that the police didn't need to get involved. If you're trying to look innocent, telling the family members of missing people not to call the police isn't the way to do it. Police tried for several days to get in contact with Ed, who, after several unanswered calls and pleas, finally agreed to come speak with them. The following footage was provided to us by the Hood County Sheriff's Department via foyer request. Awesome. How you doing? Good, man. How are you? Good. And Paul tennis. And you are your Morris. You're the guy I've been to on the phone a few times. Cool. Got another ranger coming in here in second. That's awesome. Check on something. Awesome. I hope you guys know. You go by Ed. Ed. Just Ed. Okay. Ed. My name's Don Stoner and Awesome. You're a guy called me. Yes. somebody to talk to. I won't get started till my partner gets but I will uh let's see. I can you wouldn't believe me what happened in my life. Oh my god. This is nuts. So Edward kind of let's start off telling me uh a little bit about y'all's relationship, how y'all met, where y'all came from and everything. Okay. I'm from Florida. Uh born in Pennsylvania, raised married two times. Um met met two times previous previously. Never again up north. No, in Florida. In Florida? Yeah. My first wife. Uh we split fooling around on me. We split. One of these girls more than me. So I'm like, "Okay, fine." We split. That was back in the 80s. Met a second wife through a job where I worked in a machine shop. We were together 17 18 years. Married maybe nine. We married 97 divorced that long. 2017 18 something like that. You got to look it up. Little um Deb and I are married. Jen the story part. Um, Jen was my stepson's girlfriend at the time. Okay. Okay. Can she move in? Can this girl move in? Nobody moved to my house. And so I'm that I'm a pretty good, you know, person with more than that. I came in blah blah. Okay. J and I basically spent a lot of time together. Now I still trust you. So my wife comes home one afternoon and says and they had a TV store down here. She says uh I told her my mom said she says uh once a while ago Pennsylvania within 10 miles and uh my wife hysterically why don't you take your fat girlfriend with you throws a lot of keys at me bust the china cabinet glass out of my mom's China in my house. This is my second license. And I went to Jen. This is exactly how I got to go. I said, "Well, I got to go. I'm going to Pennsylvania to see my mom. My brother's called me." She says, "Go take your fat girlfriend." I said, "You want to go with me?" Jen says, "Give me a few minutes." Anyway, yeah. Um, Jen and I when we got back, my wife says, "You'll never set foot in this house again." Calls all these sheriffs and all these people. morning and he's like, "Oh, okay, fine." I ended up meeting with Jen who lived in who lived in the back of my car for a couple days. Ed actually thinks the story he's just told makes him look like an innocent victim. Not only did he very obviously cheat on his wife of 18 years with his stepson's girlfriend, but he thinks that his ex is the crazy one in this situation. In messages with his ex-wife, police discovered that he had allegedly tried to get her to leave her house so that he could live there with Jyn and that the two ran away together shortly after Jyn turned 18. Not only that, but Jyn called them mom and dad before she ran off with Ed. It should be noted that if this really is the case, there was certainly some G going on. Jen and I get together uh 2008. We lived together for up until two years ago. We got married October was Texas or we got married in Florida. But until then it was always with her like she wants to go have a with this girl. Yeah. She wants to go have with Scott. She wants to go have all this extra thing and she's halfway. So I'm like, now okay, I'm not the swing going out there trying to, you know, I'm not that guy, but I go with you. I know you this is what you do. As the years go on, I mean, what I went to the fantasy parade for the gay people, I'm not gay. Down in Key West, a big thing about that. She had to see herself on video on YouTube. Um, shorten the story in a little bit. A few years go by. I mean, this went on off and on for years. Uh, this is the ex-wife. This is the wife I have now, Jen. Jen. Jen that I'm with right now. Yes, sir. Okay. Okay. So, this has been since the beginning of our relationship. Um, I Y'all were together a while before you got married, right? Oh my god. Yes. Okay. Oh my god. Yes. Eight years. I've been with 10. Okay. That's what So, I went there for eight years. Okay. Um, it's always some stuff, you know, and I'm not I mean all of us, we all have a degree of jealousy to us. You know, we all have that. I think you can't tell me. But I also have like a self-control of well, I understand that. I'm half your age. And I didn't get together with her because I was chasing some young girl, right? I got together with her because I was forced out of my home. her parents. You're not stepping foot in this house. That's the story I was told. Now, um Jane gets pregnant and this was James the seven. So, I had been eight years ago. Jen gets pregnant. Oh my god, I'm going to be a dad. It's a dad bag and this bag and that. She's a drinker. I'm not. No, I can't. Me, you, all three of us, we can go somewhere and pound some alcohol right now and tomorrow I'm going to say goodbye. not an alcoholic. I don't do please test me all night. Um Jane gets pregnant. Her friends at the house. Well, you know, I'm always worried the next around the corner and they're giggling and laughing, drinking and partying. And I'm like, what are you talking? And she says something to me. She says, well, I was with three different guys this month, so he might not even be yours. And we already knew that it was going to be a boy. I'm like, now this is coming from Edward, who, as you've surely seen in just 8 minutes, loves to tell a tall tale. He and Jyn even went on a talk show to get a paternity test, where he told a different story for why he thought Jyn cheated on him. He claimed that he had had sex at least 10,000 times with seven different women, and none of them had ever gotten pregnant. In addition, he had gotten struck by lightning, which he believed made him infertile. The test determined that Edward was in fact the father, despite his attempts to make Jyn look bad. And apparently, he didn't learn his lesson. Throughout this interrogation, years later, Edward continues to paint Jyn as a terrible person, even as detectives try to get him to shut up and focus. I need D on the side. I need my side D. I need my side D. Well, that's you know, three hours. You go right ahead. So, I'm good with that. I knew already she had uh we had this uh Scott and his wife. There was some other girl, Ashley, something. I wouldn't touch her. Uh her some boy that never showed up. All stuff happened. Let me stop you right there. No, no, it's a long story. No, into it. I'm just trying to tell you this whole story of how things happen. We're going to get there, but we're going to have to hone in a little bit. I'm going to say earlier, I know to talk to. Okay. Again, I appreciate you voluntarily coming up here to us. I mean, we kind of Chris guy. We moved to Texas. We We got married after that. So, Chris was in Florida. Yeah. We got married shortly after that. I asked her to marry me. We moved to Texas. I promise I'm I'm done with that now. We moved to Texas. She gets this EMS job offered to her or went for it, whatever it was. Um, she went to Lewisville to school, stayed a week, had to stay an extra day, uh, called Kend. Okay, now we're doing this in Texas. Okay. Is that what we're going to do in Texas? do. So, is this an actual This before your son or No, my son's already been born. He's this that's this year. Yeah, this is after Star. Star came along somewhere in between. Um there's no denying that that one's mine. Um she goes to Louisville, takes training for this EMS classes or whatever she's going to be, 911, whatever she does up there, ambulances. Catches, bring that home to me. And then I met ST and I slept with two Mexican guys and picked them up in this bar and all this crap. I mean, come on. There's there's two two things to this story. I'm going to make a joke. I want to make you laugh here. A friend of mine told me years ago. They're all they're not the lion. It's just like that's the way it is. And she takes all these noody pictures of herself with her selfie stick and her thing and oh my god, she's fat. She is 250 lbs. I mean, by looking at these pictures, she looks 130 lbs, dude. Mhm. She's doing 250 better. Yeah. She says she's not. And another thing about her, she has she had this stomach surgery that cut your stomach down, right? She's lost all this weight and she has a lot of sagging skin. She calls her a front butt. It look like she got a butt in the front and a butt in the back. Mhm. And um but she's fatter than she appears. I don't know about you, but you couldn't waterboard this information out of me. And keep in mind, he's telling these stories willingly within half an hour of sitting down with detectives just days after his wife of 11 years, the mother of his two children, has vanished. Of course, there are some big things he's leaving out, like the fact that he had his own website where he posted intimate photos and videos of himself, just like he's accusing Jyn of doing. As for who watched those videos, we don't even want to imagine. So far, he's checked off a lot of boxes. Predatory, a cheater, and a misogynist. But he's going for a clean sweep here. So, naturally, he decides it's time to sprinkle in some racism. But don't worry, according to him, he's only part racist. One day, she comes up to me. She comes to me and she says, "I really I want to meet this guy." And he's like one of my girlfriends, this girlfriend of her she plays with. They're from all over the country. Something South Africa, all over the world, maybe. Um, let me say this in the wrong term. I'm not a total racist, but I might be partnering on some sand. They're they're from all over the world. But she talk she likes to people from the United States. They must be clawing at the fat like dogs indeed. Okay, just get here quick. Oh my god, that's too long. She said, well, I'm going to Tennessee cuz she already made arrangements that she was going to Tennessee to give herself some thinking time because oh my god and what it is is she's got so much going on freaking brain she doesn't understand why. I know that. Finally, detectives get Edward to tell them what happened the night Jyn went missing. According to him, he was in bed with the kids watching Christian YouTube videos with them while his wife was chatting with other men. Such a good dad, right? I lay my kids down on the bed. I got a chair next to the bed that I sit in. I don't pretty much listen and I'll sit like this and I put my story on and fight for them. I have to listen to him bicker and fight and bicker and fight. I don't need a drink and I need this and I forgot my stuffy and none of the goes on happens everything. I get the video playing. I think I'm pretty James fell asleep. I can't guarantee that. One of the kids was asleep, the other kid wasn't. We're both where I'm sitting there. Jen comes up now. She's listening to videos. No, she's got say I'm saying it this way. She got music bend me over that I I have gave her that and she is do not play that around my 5-year-old. I will not I refuse to if I put my foot down for anything in my life cannot do that. She's got this [ __ ] music playing. I can hear her laughing now. I couldn't tell you now. The music's playing. Plus, she's laughing. Now, was she on her tablet? Was she on the video game playing that video game? Was she at home on the phone? I can't say. But she spends most of the time on that video game on that chat or Snapchat. I'm laying my kids down. I'm playing the Bible video. I hear all this noise in there. So, no idea. Um, she comes up to the front door of the bedroom and says, "Night, everybody." And it's too loud in here. Really? Okay. Good night. She closes the bedroom door. She's never really done that. She's never actually walked down that hall like that and complained about it. She's the one that plays the loud music. Choose the one that's playing just so crazily that it's it's it racks your brain all the way out. But always let that Bible video finish playing. It's 25 27 minutes long. Only a 27 minute interval. 25 27 minutes down the hall. I hear my front door in the house. And now I'm in a big house, dude. This thing goes thump and I hear when it goes thump I heard now this is a door closing. I thought this was odd. I hear the dog and three Chihuahua box and someone's around you. They going to pee on your foot. So I hear dog barking. I hear her voice from the front yard porch area right near Star's room is two windows down with this glass I hear going shut up shut it or something to the door quiet then outside whatever hindsight again maybe she's in her right didn't dawn on me it's outside less than a minute now I swear to less than a I hear a little car. It wasn't got a vehicle. That's not a vehicle. And he's do this. I can't say she was in a vehicle because I didn't see her get in it, but I'm in a quiet neighborhood. There's not that much traffic there. There's some [ __ ] across the street over there. I call them that. That's how they act. I hear a little vehicle like ease off in first gear. It didn't sound like it revved out. But here on another car, it was a fourcylinder, six, four cylinder. Could have been a mini truck. Could have been a mini car. Could have been any kind of car. It was a mini one though. And I heard four gears could have had a gear fuel off down the road. And it wasn't like a racing car with a fart muffler with this car. Yeah, I just like whatever. Hey, neighbors over here. I can see this more hindsight. Should I have gotten up? I'm I'm sitting there. Okay, video is over. I haven't really paid attention to that now. Video is over. We're taking everybody and I get up now. That might have been another five, eight minutes. And I get up and I open the storage door and I walk out the hall. Hey, baby. Here. Okay, cool. So, I put two together. She all her phone was gone and her super wallet is missing. Okay. So, now I figure J's gone. So, what do I do? Well, I'm going to call her or no. And every time I he's like, "Why don't you stop bugging me until you know I'm done? I'll let you know when I'm done. I stay off of it. I didn't see Illy bag around for maybe a couple hours at that time or what 10:34 11 I got to go to work tomorrow 5 in the morning 5:30 in the morning. um curl up in the bed going to sleep kind of wondering why she shouldn't have been home but okay maybe she's having another bad time I learned that next morning alarm's going off starts wake up anyway daddy daddy daddy okay school where's mommy I don't know mommy didn't come home and I'm like came. I didn't come home. I don't know exactly what time I text her, but I know it was at least 4 to 7 cuz I put them kids on the school bus by 6:15. What did you want to text her? I can't remember exactly. It's on my phone. I might have called her because she has three things that I talk to her on. I talked to her on the phone. I talk to her on a regular text messaging and then they have a Facebook message and she jumps back and forth between them two messages. So I know I text her like hey or whatever. We'd have to look it up on the phone exactly my exact words like you didn't come home or whatever you going to work or did you go to work or something whatever I but I did go into the closet and look I mean all her uniforms she got eight seven to eight to 10 different uniforms she wears t-shirts and blue things and all that sort of thing and you know I couldn't tell you that she took a working appointment with her. But that wasn't my assumption. My assumption was that she went with some dude and maybe I mean she didn't answer me. I called her and it went directly to voicemail and I'm like okay. So she does that sometimes. She'll send me a message. You might have she messaging where I'll be on my when she's talking to me. Well, I'm not coming home then. You ever want to say that to you? That's her. That's her. And uh she whatever. So, I let the day go by. I'm kind of being respectful. I kept the kids home from school. I'm I'm kind of like understand. Why didn't you let the kids go to school? I don't know. I just kind of I don't know. I don't know. Something struck me funny about it. Just the way that she had her phone off, maybe. So, I had to call her maybe before I end up school. Dude, I kept kids out of school for a week. Keeping his kids out of school for a week because his wife ran off with another man, which he claims she did constantly, isn't the convincing story that he thinks it is. In fact, he told the first officer who spoke to him, officer Lucky, that he wasn't concerned because Jyn ran off all the time. My Facebook Messenger, which I didn't even download on this one, is ringing. It's Jen's brother. I'm like, hello, Kevin. Kevin, hey, what's up, buddy? And uh about the time I'm about to tell him, the same time he says, "Have you heard from Jennifer?" I said, "No, why?" She called on me this last day or last night. And uh he says, "Well, her work called me. Amy from work called me to find out if I heard from her." And it struck me so funny as to why. And I'm going tell you this thing, why this lady from her job called I think she might had an idea. I don't know this. I I do not know this. I don't accuse anybody. But this lady from this job, who is not her boss, calls my brother-in-law and asks if he knows anything about Jen. Have you heard from her? Right. Okay. He's a 16-year-old kid. He's 1,800 miles away from you. I have no idea how he talks to his sister. Well, they call him I am 32 miles away. Yeah. When Jen had her gallbladder attack, Amy called me. Yeah, that's what I don't catch in the whole beginning mess of this. Why? Somebody knew something. Yeah, everyone knew why Jyn had disappeared, which is precisely why they didn't call Ed. When Ed posted this status on Facebook in an attempt to garner sympathy and make himself look innocent, one of Jyn's relatives replied this. And she's right. Not only did Ed not file a missing person's report, but he essentially cut contact with her family in Florida, leaving them desperate for answers. Anyway, Facebook here. I posted a post about my missing wife and it was flagged off of Facebook and I guarantee you less than an hour, might have been less than 15 minutes. Next thing you know, her sister's on there. Oh my god, my sister. Oh, my sister is gone. Oh. Oh, I'm having such an issue. So, I text Missy and I said, Melissa, she refused to answer my call. And then there was some other woman that came up there said, and I'm just openlyheartedly talking to anybody. It's like, yeah, Chance took off. some other one Catherine something and sends me these rude messages on here and I'm like whoa I'm just telling you that Jan's been seeing guys offline. I think she took off on me to ask for somebody and I haven't heard from her. This girl I don't care who's I need her emails and her passwords and all this [ __ ] that's in the freaking text messages. Well, dude, let's talk some more, please. Um, well, we kind of sped past from you waking up going HB, then all of a sudden it's night time. Uh, what time she went? What did you do after you got back from HUV? I did her hair, made food. What time did you do her hair? 3 4:00 in the afternoon, maybe. So, you woke up at 8. Spent the morning with the kids. What day did you leave? One day it can be sometime in the daytime watch. That is our lunch. We eat like once a day plus jump through the other cabinets and the kids are running rampid all over the house and please stop. So what was she doing during this time? She's on them video game apps. One of her bedrooms where she lives. So and me I worked on my car. I was putting my to come see it. I had all the interior out of my car. I had it all masked off at one point in time. We were painting it. Um, I was peeling the masking tape off and my plasticking and all that junk. Put my door panels on. I put my tail, that's what I basically didn't have to move. Put my tail lights on. Plus, let's tend to the kids and the dogs and whatnot. Um, that's basically how I spent my afternoon up until the evening and hey, do you want something to eat? You know, came along. That was pretty dark. By the time it gets dark up there in Granberry, how long did it take you to dye our hair? Maybe an hour. An hour. Plus, minus. Well, if you do it, if you do a few shots, cuz you do it, they might have been longer than that. Maybe longer than that, cuz you do one shot of one color. She goes in and rinses it off, goes out, blow dry all that crap off. Then she comes back to you later. And I did the other half, the blonde. So, I did the brown first and I did the blonde afterwards and then she fixed herself all up and did all her pictures and all that [ __ ] and she sent them to me and uh I mean basically but I spent time with, you know, working on my car. That's what I do. Work on my car. I send them to my kids all day and my Chihuahua, my dogs. Uh, I can't say if I even went to Tony'sville. Occasionally I'll take them to McDonald's. You know, I just tell her, but I, you know, spent the afternoon being me amongst the family. I can I can give you that honestly. And I mean, as far as you know, she took her phone with her. Well, I know she Well, you know she assuming she did. She did something else. Assuming that. Yeah. You know, you're making a point. Yeah. You were making a very good point. Yeah. Just like me saying she took off with a guy in a car. I did not see her get in the car. And I tell you that honestly. I did not see her get in the car. I heard a car speed off that evening. Correct. I know she left out of the house and she said, "Shush to the dog." And a few moments later, I heard a car on two miles down the road. Now, we get a lot of calling off. And here's another one, too. James tells me, I know she sees other men, too, because James says to me the other day, he says, "Daddy, I see your mom's boyfriend." Well, that's a joke we always make. Mom's boyfriend. And he said, I said, "Rill, what's he look like?" He said, "He's Chinese." Chinese. So, I say, "Yeah, he's got little eyes." Somebody comes over and see you a while at work and he says to me I asked you a few times. Yeah, crush your kids and he says uh he speaks Spanish and has a big shiny white truck and start says yeah small tires and how much could they elaborate that story up to make it sound like that came from my kids. Yeah. And usually a kid saying hey a guy in a white truck came over and it looked Chinese, you know, speak Spanish. a Mexican guy somewhere along the line. Now, Edward has dragged his five and seven-year-old child into the mix. But what they really know is much, much more disturbing than the lie that their mother had a boyfriend. In their interview with a forensic interviewer at a child advocacy center, both children said they were not allowed to talk about their mom disappearing because it was a secret. What about y'all keep weapons in the house? No, absolutely not. They have, but no, we went through that mess and it's like, please get this has to go. We had a It's hers. I, you know, tell you honestly, she supposed to got rid of them. Uh, we had a 25 automatic, which was some kind of little Mickey Mouse peashooter pistol thing. That's hers. Um, and two2 rifles. And she had a thing. This has been I don't know. I have no problem. Uh, we need to get rid of these. There's a BB gun in there that doesn't work. It doesn't have a thing that wine gun has to get rid of. It was just her thing. Maybe her with her work with her movies or whatever she watches. Now, get this. Uh, we shot them one time in Granberry at this pirate den. You ever heard that? I went in there with her. We bought a box of bullets from some I don't know the name of down here. A marksman. That's him. He fixed one of these guns cuz it jammed up all the time and it was sunk under water. That's a four-wheel drive. I used to have big mud trucks. Is this a rifle or This is a rifle. The pistol she kept under her wraps. Wait a minute. That's hers. Remember she kept that. Did she buy it in Florida? Uh it was bought at the gun show in Florida. Okay. Um, she kept Did she carry that with her or that I know of? No, I can't say I've ever seen it in her purse. Where did she keep it at the house? At the house they had or they had we had a gun case at one point in time that she purchased from the flying game truck that she kept it. That gun case non-existent house. I always assumed with her that she got rid of all of them because I told her that day, this has been a long time. This has been I don't want that. We'd have to look on Facebook and find out the picture of her. She's a dead shot with a gun. She cut the center out of a target at full length. I call the shooting guy in front of you, right? I go that high on her like you guys, but I never When's the last time you saw that pistol? 4 months ago. Morning. Morning. I can't physically saw a pistol. I can't tell you the beginning of a year. When was the last time? Let me look at my Facebook. That's all right. I find it on Facebook. Yeah, just I was thinking maybe if she took off with it or something. That's a possibility. See, she told me she got she told me she got rid of them. She got rid of the the There was a 1022 that came from uh I think they came from a gun show or Cash America in Florida. And then there was a 22 Marlin that I'd had since I was 18 years old and I was in tears of her saying this together. I'm like fine. We never shoot them anyway. Well, I've got kids. We don't need guns in this house. Fine. How long ago was that? But she wanted to get rid of all the guns. after we went shooting that one day and I want to think it was someone affiliated with her work that got them that bought the guns. I'm not certain. Jen can tell you, but did she tell you she got rid of all three of them or did she just say she got rid of We have to get rid of them. She says now whether she took them on her own. I mean, they just laid in the closet in the in gun cases and things and I haven't I don't them. So, I mean that's some [ __ ] from my childhood. She was the big I got to go shoot you. So, did she ever uh was she ever physical with you to a point where you had to defend yourself? Oh, yeah. Oh my god. I had her arrested. You had her arrested? Yeah. Um, one year, I can't remember. Uh, we're in Florida. Okay. We're live We hadn't been together a couple years. Oh, she's an angry person. her brother was a I'll tell you the shooting f excuse me the um her brother was a prisoner got out of prison was at the house pushing on all these girls one night you want some of this let's say how thankful J is you guys think you're tough she punched a hardening prisoner out in one lick knocked him out the boys lay on the ground shoot him so you couldn't take her if Ed was going to lie about owning guns and not being interested in guns, he probably should have scrubbed his Facebook before this meeting because it was flooded with enough photos of weapons to make the NRA sponsor him. There's also this gym of a selfie which we had to include. Though, there is one thing he's not lying about. There aren't any weapons in the house because after killing his wife, he got rid of them. Let me ask you this. Yeah. Yeah. Where do you think she is at the moment? probably dead because I heard from him. Why do you think that? I'm just saying off top of the head. Cuz normally Jen when she hauls on me, she contacts you. So if you think, how does that make you feel about scared to death? Well, what makes it what would make you scared if she Well, scared. I'm my wife. Something's happened to my wife. Yeah. You know. Well, I guess you know what I'm saying. I mean, I'm tripping on her because look, Jen has left me to go out, man. She has left me before and within 12 hours or a day, there's always some type of comfort. There's someone that's heard something from J. She can't shut up. Yeah. No. She has to be known. I mean, unless she's truly taken herself into a new identity or met herself a sugar daddy that's fun her off to Yeah. Where is she? I'm asking you. You don't because normally she would be in contact with someone. Me especially. I mean I'm I'm her I'm her rock. I'm the guy that she leans on. I'm the guy that she depends on. I'm the guy that goes to the hospital and hurt me. And that is what that hurts me inside that she's not made contact. Yeah. But now after she run off, she took her phone with her as far as I know she did. Okay. Well, it stopped me in the middle of that a while ago. Yeah. Her phone's not in the house. I told was it her aunt today on Facebook or her friend or whatever it was. It was like, you know, I'm a wreck. I mean, I'm a man inside, dude. But I won't tell you to cry. We don't work every day, but [Music] it's got to keep me forgetting. But what makes you What makes you so upset about it? I'm not upset. I'm just I I am upset. She's gone. They said you cried your eyes out, right? But my wife's gone. She's not here. My normality is not normal now because she's not here. Yeah. And it's absolutely it's agonizing. I don't know the correct word to use. It's agonizing for me. I'm now I'm like which I've always been for the kids but it's it's it's double time. It's like especially as of now this has been how many days it's been? 12. Um, excuse me. Gone. I got to tell you, when we do these investigation, that's and it's kind of hard for us cuz we got to look at everything, right? Awesome. Uh, so that we got to ask the hard questions, right? I mean, obviously, I mean, you've told us some pretty pretty hard stuff to talk about, right? I can tell you everything I know and more to begin. Okay. Well, I'm going to ask you, okay? Did you have anything to do with your wife this experience? Absolutely not. Okay. Uh, you didn't hurt your wife? Absolutely not. You didn't kill your wife? Absolutely not. You sure? Yes. Okay. Well, uh, like I said, uh, in doing this, we, you know, it's the best way we can do. It's like peeling back an egg, right? And once we can peel back, once we can peel back a layer, we don't have to look at that layer anymore. Does that make sense? Sure does. So, that's that's uh one of our one of the processes we're going to do. And one one thing that would help us with that is if uh we could get you to take a polygraph. Would you be good with that? Well, I guess if you really maybe do that trying to do that. No, but I would be a differential for that. The whole thing is before, like you said, the whole thing is, and I'm not trying to talk to you and sway your decision one way or the other. The whole thing is is anytime we work one of these, we kind of work it closest out to furthest, okay? And and look, you watching the cop show everybody's anytime we do one of these, the first thing that anybody's going to look at is okay, well, is a hus, right? That's how we on Facebook page is like and we need we need to be able to hush those people up so we concentrate on our investigation and so we can move the circle out a little further and a little further a little. easiest way to be able to shut those people up is say listen man he's done nothing but walk that's all I am going to do like you know we say I'm going to continue as much as I can now it's like you don't believe me come on just wake up so how are they not going to believe a polygraph say look he took this polygraph and he passed it right she took one on national TV and ask me. Let me think on that a little bit. I'll think on that whatever. What am I supposed to do? I'm giving you every bit of information I have. Well, again, that's makes me feel so accused. I'm like, "Wow, well, no. I'm dumping my heart and soul to you guys, dude. Edward, it's not what that's a uh investigative tool you on every one of these saying. It's it's what it's one way to get all these naysayers out of the picture where they're saying, "Well, man, she was she treated Edward like [ __ ] She cheated on him. She did this, that, and the other." So, he had every reason in the world to do something to her. Yeah. But I didn't because I know that's the way Jen's been for a lot of years, and that's how Jen is. Jen is Jen and I just Jen but there's a lot of people who is going to be like head on. You get what I'm saying? I mean I could I could look at it from their point of view on their I don't want to call it self-centered. I don't know the right wording for that. What is the correct wording for that? But when people I mean people will stereotype you. Yeah. Yeah. And um you notice neither one neither one of us in here judged you on this whole thing. I mean you laid out some pretty funky everything I know. You laid out some pretty funky stuff that's not the normal truth. Yeah. Absolute truth and and we have we haven't judged you on that a bit. I mean we we see there's no judgment on it. The truth is the truth. That is how things go. That's the truest thing you said. The truth is the truth. You can't change nobody. Um, and I think there's a lot of truth to what you said a while ago when you said you probably put up with a whole lot of [ __ ] because little two kids. Exactly. I mean, and I get that nothing to do with her leaving. She hates me and she had to freaking go see her boyfriend. I think you uh that's that's the bottom line of this whole deal, dude. I mean, that's the bottom line of this whole thing. It's like she put the on me. I didn't I'm a little frail old man, dude. And and nobody nobody's saying anything but that. We got we got to go through the whole process, right? That makes me that makes me kind of feel in a way. Oh, I understand. Like you don't trust me, you know, and but I can understand from your point of view that you have to look at each and every exactly the same frame of mind that you were looking at. Absolutely. And I do understand it's it's it's a hard hard deal. We have to do this. I will I will consider that. Let me understand. I mean, you know, I said, "Yeah, sure. Right now, I mean, just let me let me think on this a minute here. Let me think on this a bit. Talk do I need to talk to a lawyer or something?" It's not going to affect it. Um, you didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. So, but putting my head on a chopping block and How would that be? I'm just saying somebody what if a do you actually believe in 100% of a polygraph even then? I mean I can't say it. What am I supposed to say on this? I'm skeptical at it. Well, here's the thing. They're they are very direct questions. Sure. Okay. It's not uh any hypothetical questions. It's not theor, you know, it's very direct fast. That's fact based question. Did you kill your wife? No. Okay. So, that may that may be one of the questions. If you didn't kill your wife, then that should be no problem. But there is a problem. Ultimately, he declines taking a polygraph. But he does very quickly do some other things. In a flash, he took his children out of school, moved out of the house, and most suspiciously hid his white van, which detectives saw when they first visited the home. When detectives spoke to one of his friends, he stated that he hid the van in a storage unit because he didn't want them to get it. When officers called him asking what storage unit he put the van in, he said somewhere in San Antonio, but he couldn't remember where. Unfortunately for him, it didn't take long to find it. Jyn's family in Florida were able to locate the van near a place where Ed used to work. A forensic analysis of the van uncovered blood matching that of Jyn in the truck. On December 4th, 2019, Ed was brought into the station in cuffs under charges of tampering with evidence. As he sits down for questioning, it's clear he isn't quite sure how to weasle out of this one. All right. So, you understand you understand uh when I walked in that you are nervous, right? you know, you're in a a detention. Uh, you know, you're you're at the jail and the jail's right here. I'm going to spend probably only a little bit of time with you because to be quite frank with you, you have you made your bed. There's only a few things that um um I don't want to say this. You know, here's the thing. When people see cases like this, we're talking about people here watching just real people, normal everyday people, right? They they relate to things that they think, "Yeah, I can understand that. I can understand that. People don't relate to straight up evil. They don't relate to um someone that's just off the wheel, right? I mean, I don't think anybody disagrees. Like people just don't relate to that." I tell you something. It's it's like there's I don't care what you come up with. There is not a story that gets you out of that. There is not a story that gets you out of that. You can't even There's not one. There's There's no person that can give you a helping hand to that. Um, I think the only person that can help Ed is Ed, you know. Um, CPS investigation concerning all of this and the more stuff that CPS will find out. Come on, Ed. If you want to talk and help yourself, here's where we start. I mean, you lie a lot. That's that's bad. People don't like people that lie. People that lie means Well, I don't have to tell you what that means. Um, I don't know what you want to do, Ed. Um, I mean, I I'm going to go I'm going to turn on reporter, but I'm going to give you a chance to, you know, have a little bit of time here like, you know, what happens with this or that? What if I help you? If I help you here, what does that mean? I will give you a little time for that it um I wasn't really going to I just I looked in your eyes and I was actually this morning I thought you know what instead of going to eat lunch cuz I am hungry I want to eat right now instead of going to eat lunch I'm going to go up there and talk to you I'm pouring my heart out for you. So, like I said, I'll turn around and record it, but I'll give you some time to like, well, if I if I have this, you know, I'm honestly giving you that chance at a lifetime. So, you take it or you don't, I don't know how smart you are. I want you to be just because human human man to man I'm pour my heart out after you do it for me. You know I don't think you'll be disappointed. I mean let me rephrase that. This is a disappointing thing in the big scheme. It's terrible. You know but there's there's levels of terrible. You know this. There's like 99 terrible and there's Let me tell you before you go turn on my recording. I got some things to to get off my chest about what she was doing to me. And if I tell you, you know, whatever it is, I know you have it in you. I know you want to tell me. Why is that blood in the back of that thing? Why is that blood in the back of the van that you know is in the back of that van? You cleaned it. Why did you clean it? You're telling me you found blood in the back of the van? I can say, "Well, every period in the back of the land say what the truth is is what you're supposed to say it. No, there's no way in this world you're going to tell anything different than that. Say what the truth is. Why would you clean it? Why don't you clean the back of the thing? I just came for the right answer. I just taking my kids forever. taking my kids away from everybody's turn my kids. My understanding is you're giving those kids away. You know, there's nobody giving those people away. That's not my misunderstanding. Someone gave them away. No one gave them away. At the time of this interrogation, the children were in state custody, mainly because no relatives lived in the area, which made a kinship placement challenging. And truthfully, the children needed to be in the hands of some professionals to help them because what they witnessed at the house that night is nothing short of terrifying. When Texas Rangers searched the house, they found several concerning drawings showing a man with a firearm and a woman lying on the ground seemingly floating up to heaven. For nearly 2 hours, Ed refuses to say much at all, which is especially shocking when you consider the fact that he didn't shut up in his first interrogation. Finally, the detective comes up with a way to get him to speak by suggesting that the murder may have been in self-defense. Well, the only the only thing in in Texas in the law. Yes, sir. There is a self-defense thing. I can break it straight up to you. I need to hear that where you're at. I think you are. Yes, I am. You need to hear that. I understand this. All right. You hear that? You're smart. [Music] You got no idea. [Music] almost embrace my heart for you. I'm sorry. Embrace my heart cuz I know it's so glad for you. again or not back let's see you know like is this is this a self-defense don't don't catch out you hear what I'm saying you right there stand up next to you Please, please help me. Right there is a bullet hole and right there is where it was at the edge of coming out of my hand that way. And that's where I had to go like this cuz she was coming after my and I shot myself up to arm trying to stop her from coming at me with a 25. And I she still me and I ran into my room. Then I grabbed my 22 and I shut the out of her and she was calling somebody on the phone and she said, "He's killing me." All right. And she was coming after me. So you believe me now? Do you actually believe me now? I didn't do anything wrong. [Music] so bad. I couldn't get it out my to hurt my hand still. Why did that happen? Why? What? What you up? Let me tell you. You want me to tell you that you see that boy? I'm pretty sure she was talking to him the whole way back, but I don't know who's talked to. Did you do any research on that? And she says, "Why don't she say it?" And she say," She says, "Well, I think I'm going to I think I'm going to move out. I'm going to go move in with Lori." I said, "Who are you talking to on the front? Is that your boyfriend? Is it your boyfriend?" you could really make a jump like that because these guys didn't see Beats and just kind of blew it off back and forth. that went on in the afternoon. Uh that's pretty much where it went. by evening time. I said I wasn't saying I can't tell you. I remember she said, "Well, I'm just going to get I'm just going to go then. I'm going to leave you. I'm going to do some bullshit." I said, "You're crazy. Say that to me again." And she goes, "No, believe me, I'm going to go move in with Lauren." I don't think Lauren had a clue. I don't think Lauren was even talking to him. No, I think she was I can tell you I went down the hall and see back off. Back off here. I don't need you in here. I don't need you back. book and see. Okay. In my van. In my van. The other van here. Yes. In the other van. There's a jewelry box in there belong to my father. That was a marine. You open the back of that van. That jewelry box up. There's a gold necklace in there. It's a piece to it. And I put them I picked up all my she snatched off my [ __ ] neck. And when football welcome me in her house and I ran down the hallway and I got 25 up on top of the shelf way up top where the kids can get it. And she goes and I go and she comes running back down at me and she goes, "Oh my god. Oh my god." She run down the hall. I can't remember. I can't. Well, it was in the hall somewhere between the bathroom and bedroom. Maybe I don't. And she came. That's when she lunged at me. She like does a football lunge. And I just, you know, she goes, "What do you shoot me?" Oh, she at me that quick and ran at me. and I had his daughter. That's when I was trying to defend myself and I was trying to stop it. I mean, that's how I tell you. I said, "Put me in the chair. I'm done. I'll tell you. I'm really telling you and shot me myself in the finally a semblance of truth comes out. She still kept coming after me. And I shot myself once. I don't know if I hit her any other time. And she was still after me and I ran the laundry room that had 22 in there and grabbed that shot around the phone with somebody said he's killing me. That's honest. That's honest. That's honest. I'm telling you. And I have to make [ __ ] up to cover everything up. The kids are freaking out. What should I have done? Nothing. Should I just let her beat like I did years ago? I just lose my temper, my cool finally had enough like you said I had enough of it. Yeah. Kill me. Shoot me the fire. Get me out of here. realize I can't live like this. I didn't do anything on purpose like I'm going to kill my wife because she's it didn't happen like that. I did. I'm sorry. Well, I'm really sorry. I don't feel bad. I wish didn't happen to kill me for whatever they I don't want to spend the rest of my life in jail cuz somebody mistreated me and treated me like [ __ ] Lost my kids hurt. Take away my pride, my joy, my everything I have, man. They gave my pets up, everything. Like I said, it wasn't like you planned all this out. Of course not. You know, like it just Did you have enough? You want to give me like a location of where I have that? Well, what I did with her, you know, I take you out there for a ride. I guess you going to help me, right? I don't care if you kill me, man. Just help me. I will. You have no idea. You have no idea what to do. Um, you just see this crap like you boil with that stuff and it still does cover his grand. Yeah. Now we'll take a ride. What about we It's not far from plantation because I don't know much about these roads. Okay. I don't know my way around these caves. Yeah, I can tell you go there and turn left and there or something, right? I don't know. Um, when the last time you were there the day that happened. Okay, let me get out there, like I said, uh, and, uh, give me some water. I'm going get somebody out here and get you a uh a smoke break. That's not good. That's the right thing to do. And uh thank you. Jennifer's remains were located in a rural area. She had been shot several times, including once in the head. In addition, Ed led detectives to another rural location where he abandoned the weapons he used. And while the case was all but closed at this point, Ed still wanted some time in the spotlight. He agreed to do an interview with the local station, WFAA, where he went even more into detail about his supposed version of events. The following morning, wake up, start the normal daily routine. The normal daily routine. Dad takes care of the kids. Dad feeds the kids. Dad, make sure your kids don't fall as I I'm dad. Jen sleeps in. Jen's on the phone. Jen's playing video games, online video game app called PUBG where she can chat and she picks up a lot of these men on this video game app. And she has kick. I don't know all the names of them. And there's a lot of them. And she spends the majority of her day in that bedroom where I door about that side right there. Not lock. She spends her little life behind that door. How it was even how it even happened is hard to determine to say cuz everything happens so fast. But she got up and I remember saying get out, you know, it's time to tell you get out of here blah blah blah. and she threw she threw a phone there in one of the on the mattress there. I can remember her standing up such a blur and she turned towards me and she I said get out that she was saying yelling at me like she didn't want me down the hall and she was watching videos or whatever I know a video of her. Um, and she when when she would get physical towards me, I'm not a physical guy. I mean, I'm like an old shrew guy, nonviolent. She would come at you with what I describe as like a football mode block and tried blocking me up against the wall. I can't, you know, but in a smart mouth trying way, but she wasn't. and a gold necklace on that I've had for years and she snatched that off somewhat tripping me however and but she was angry and I kind of I got scared and I was scared my kicked again cuz she beat me up playing you know honest I have a machine they really say she's 250 60 lb woman 120 110 pound guy and she plenty of things. She only went arrested for it once. I should have left her years ago. I probably wouldn't been in a situation I didn't check. Would you agree with me? Yeah. I was going to ask why. Yeah. Yeah. Why you stay so long? I don't know. So she snatches the she snatched the necklace from me was basically attacking me and you know it happened so fast it was a murder and comes at me and come back and back and forth and I'm like oh you know I can't say the kids were paying attention I can't because I don't recall seeing anyway she chased me partway down that hall you got all this mouth off the other way. She was she's nasty. You mean her? She has this bubbly personality of, "Oh, hi." That's the [ __ ] side of it. That's not the side of it. You go back into her some of her postings on her face pages and I just called social media. See some of the anger on some of her post. He put that two and two together. So she So she started to chase you down the hall basically. Yeah. And it was kind of start stop it start stop. So I don't even know how it happened but she blocked me up into the wall somewhere near where stars room the water heater stars room. It happened fast and I mean that [ __ ] hurt and rock me and I ran down the hallway because I was kind of getting it at that point. I won't say I was in fear for my life but I was scared. It should be noted that we were unable to find any records of the police being called or Jyn being arrested for being violent towards Ed despite his claims. But she was basically bullying me into the wall up and down that hallway, you know, a little bit there. And I got scared. I ran around into my living room and we had a 25 automatic pistol sitting up on top of the shelf. kept coming way up there, set way up in the top on a pair of shoes where nobody was there and uh she came running down towards me and then I just ran around the corner and what made me do that? I don't know. I was scared for my life. I wasn't pre-planning. I'm going to do this to her someday. I was absolutely so it just scared I was scared. was scared and I grabbed this pistol and she's running back the other direction and then turns around at me right into the little hallway but she's at the end of the hallway by the door to the bedroom and I'm like Jan I can't remember exactly what it was even said and she she just kept like she looked at me one more time and I can't stand up straight but she act she leaned over towards me like she was going to run like on the like a football line recorder and came at me and when I did I was blocking her from coming after it and I was scared. So I blam B sh that didn't that didn't phase her adrenaline I don't know I've never done this in my life I'm not a murderer person like I didn't intentionally go to kill her I did not um I was scared as [ __ ] she chased me or went she was looking at me from point I ran into the laundry room which is right next to us and I had the 22s in there and most of the guns are the guns we had in the house we kept the boat but they were in the same spot which she's like she come she was basically starting to chase after me still after I I know I shot her I grabbed one of these 22s that sat there for who knows how many and we've been there two years whatever And I grabbed a 22 rifle and I turned around, look at her, and I shot her with that to stop her still. And that I don't know if it shot two bullets and it jammed up. And I tossed that one down and got grabbed the other one. And this the other one had a a big I don't know if it had a clip in it or not, but it was one of them ones that had a clip in it. And she's I mean the more that she just kept coming at me and I just sat there and shot her and just pow I had to stop her and finally she spun around and she fell down on the ground right next to the bed and that's where she landed and eventually the kids come down the hall see mom lay there and so what happened I was now from this where I shot myself in defending myself from her There was blood all over this house. Now these guys for you came there. You tell them that was a mess. What? There was blood for me. And Jen fell in her spot. There was blood all over the house for me. So, and I'm not a good liar. I really am. I told the kids, well, when they saw my mom, it's like and they said, "What happened to your hand, Daddy?" He said, "My arm." Cuz it look like my hand. And so I stabbed myself with a screwdriver. And then when I seen when I saw mom laying there, I said, "What's wrong with mommy?" And I was like, "Well, mommy, we're just playing a Halloween joke. It only a couple days before Halloween. It's time to go to bed." Okay. And they went right to bed for me. And I picked up Jane's thing and cleaned all that mess up and took her someplace and I described some place. Uh I don't know my way around the county to describe it. I just down the road in the past there. You just threw her out there. Pushed her off wrapped her up and pushed her out there though. Ed was really gunning for the self-defense angle. A jury found him guilty of murder. He was sentenced to life in prison, leaving two innocent children without parents. He has repeatedly filed appeals stating that he invoked his right to an attorney and was not listened to. Though, as you've seen, detectives had no choice but to listen to him as he talked on and on and on. And not once did he formally invoke his
