I'm Sergeant Ariel Hernandez with the San Antonio Police Department. This critical incident video release is intended to provide you with information as the department understands it about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 16th, 2026 in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue. I will walk you through the video relevant to the facts of this incident as we know them so far. Content of this video may not be suitable for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. Shortly after 2:00 in the morning, officers conducted a traffic stop on an individual riding a bicycle. The suspect briefly stopped but ignored the officers' verbal commands to remain in place. The suspect then rode away from officers and a description was broadcasted over the radio. Additional officers responded and followed the suspect until the suspect fell off his bicycle while evading police at the 800 block of Hammond Avenue. When officers approached the suspect, he drew a handgun. Officers gave several commands to drop the handgun, but the suspect did not and subsequently pointed the gun at the officers. This is a handgun. Four officers discharged their firearms towards the suspect. The suspect was struck by the gunfire and was later pronounced deceased. This is another angle of the shooting from an officer's body-worn camera. No officers or bystanders were injured. The suspect was later identified as 52-year-old Andrew Davila. >> FIVE! DURING THE GUNFIRE, AN UNKNOWN ITEM IN THE suspect's backpack was struck, igniting a small fire. Officers used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out and performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived. This is an image of the handgun displayed by the suspect and recovered at the scene. Investigations into deadly force are comprehensive and can take over a year. A reminder, this is our current understanding of the situation and could change as investigators gather more information. The San Antonio Police Department does not make any determinations as to whether procedures were followed until all facts are known. All officer-involved shootings are forwarded to the Bear County District Attorney's Office for review. As of this publication, the investigation remains ongoing.
