I'm Lieutenant David Baccarac with the San Antonio Police Department. This critical incident video release is intended to provide you with information as the department currently understands it about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on June 16th, 2026 in the 12,300 block of Jones Maltsberger Road. I will walk you through the video relevant to the facts of the incident as we know them so far. Content of this video may not be suitable for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. SWAT team was contacted to assist in executing a weapon-related arrest and search warrant on a suspect identified as Roman Pena. Four SWAT officers responded to execute the warrants. Officers arrived in an unmarked vehicle and located Pena inside his parked vehicle. The officers pulled up in front of the suspect's vehicle and saw that he was holding a gun. Pena then began shooting at the officers. An officer can be heard saying, "Gun. Gun." All four officers discharged their firearms numerous times. >> Look right here. >> Look right there in his eye. >> GO BACK. GO >> ALL RIGHT, WE'RE GOOD. WE'RE GOOD. WE'RE GOOD. WE'RE GOOD. BACK UP. WE'RE GOOD. WE'RE GOOD. We're good. We're >> This is the view from another officer's body camera. >> GO BACK. GO GET BACK. GET BACK. GET BACK. GET BACK. GET BUDDY, GET BACK. GET BACK, BUDDY. >> DURING the exchange, both an officer and the suspect were struck by gunfire. The officer sustained a graze in the upper thigh. Pena was struck in the hand and shoulder. This is an image of the handgun recovered at the scene. Shortly after, Pena exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Both the officer and Peña were transported to the hospital for treatment. No bystanders were injured. The 35-year-old suspect, Roman Peña, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer. Investigations into deadly force are comprehensive and can take over a year. A reminder, this is our current understanding of the situation and could change as investigators gather more information. The San Antonio Police Department does not make any determinations as to whether procedures were followed until all facts are known. All officer-involved shootings are forwarded to the Bear County District Attorney's Office for review. As of this publication, the investigation remains ongoing.
