The officer was dispatched to the location for a disturbance involving a gun. When the officer arrived, the suspect's girlfriend met the officer at the gate. Let's go check what he's doing cuz he just I just saw him walk to the back. >> Shortly after, the suspect appeared from behind the house and ran towards the officer holding a knife in each hand. He briefly stopped and turned towards the back of the house. >> He had the knives, though. >> He has the knives? >> Two. >> Hey, sir. >> What's up, people? >> Hey. >> The officer gave commands to drop the knife, but the suspect did not comply. >> BACK UP. BACK UP. HEY, PUT THE KNIVES DOWN NOW. I THOUGHT IT'S AN ANIMAL. PUT THE KNIVES DOWN. SIR. >> THE SUSPECT turned and began running towards the officer. The officer continued to issue commands while backing away from the suspect. The suspect did not comply with the commands and continued running towards the officer. The officer discharged his firearm at the suspect. The suspect was struck by gunfire and was later pronounced deceased. This is another angle of the shooting from the officer's patrol dash camera. No officers or bystanders were injured. The suspect was later identified as 55-year-old Gregory Bowes. This is an image of the knives recovered at the scene. Investigations into deadly force are comprehensive and can take over a year. A reminder, this is our current understanding of the situation and could change as investigators gather more information. The San Antonio Police Department does not make any determinations as to whether procedures were followed until all facts are known. All officer involved shootings are forwarded to the Bear County District Attorney's Office for review. As of this publication, the investigation remains ongoing.
