I'm Detective Enrique Garza. I work with the San Antonio Police Department Homicide Unit. Someone should call police at any time they feel unsafe. Definitely anytime that a firearm is presented, anytime over threats are made, and anytime you confirm that someone is definitely following you is absolutely times that you should call police. But, if you feel unsafe, definitely call. It's better to call when police aren't needed than not call when they are needed. There's plenty of signs of road rage. Uh one of the big ones is hand gestures, flipping the bird at someone, rolling their window down, um yelling at people, following too closely. Um we've seen a lot of cases where people cut each other off, so that's accelerating quickly to get in front of them and then cutting into their lane. Um especially in an unsafe manner. And then another big one is also following. So, taking more than one turn with somebody. Um putting somebody else's life in danger, or just generally taking unsafe risks on the road just for the sake of letting other people know that you're upset at them. So, one of the biggest things that is helpful to police is a license plate. Um but, it doesn't stop there. License plate isn't everything. We also need to be able to identify the driver. So, getting a good look at the driver, getting a good description of the driver. Pictures and videos are ideal. Um if you can record on your phone without putting yourself in any kind of danger or being unsafe, that's great. Um dash cams are fantastic investment. The thing if someone's already in a road rage with you is prevention. Um if someone's tailgating you or uh following too closely on the highway, getting out of their lane, or even pulling off and letting them pass you uh is the number one thing to keep yourself safe. Um keep in mind you never know what people have to lose, and you never know what intentions someone may have. Um and how far they might be willing to take things. It's not necessarily a new law, It was just an enhancement to an existing law. Um aggravated assault got an enhancement in the penalties where if you fire a weapon from a moving vehicle into another moving vehicle or a shelter and recklessly cause injury to someone, um you could be facing a penalty that's as severe as a murder case. And those cases get investigated to that degree as well. Uh so it's not something that investigators are just going to give up on if we don't have much evidence. We're going to keep investigating and build as strong of a case as we can if someone is involved in a case like that.
