I'm Sergeant Washington Moscoso with the San Antonio Police Department. This critical incident video release is intended to provide you with information as the department currently understands it about an officer involved shooting that occurred on October 17th, 2025 in the 8700 block of Fredericksburg Road. I will walk you through the video relevant to the facts of the incident as you know them so far. Content of this video may not be suitable for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. Officers were called to a storage facility for a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they opened the rollup garage door to the unit and saw the suspect point a handgun in their direction. Drop the gun. Drop the gun. Now, drop the gun. We have guns. Officers made repeated commands, telling the suspect to drop the gun and moved into a tactical response. Drop the gun. This is a different body camera view from another officer at the scene. Drop the gun. Drop the gun now. Drop the gun. The suspect fired his weapon twice from inside the storage unit before he walked out of the unit. When the suspect emerged from inside the unit, he continued to point the gun at the officers. Hey, drop the gun. Recover. Recover. Hey, back up. Back up. Back up. An officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. This is a slowed down version of the incident. Officers provided life-saving measures to the suspect at the scene before EMS arrival. The suspect, Richard Asbel, 58, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Asbel has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant. No officers or bystanders were injured. This is the image of the handgun recovered at the scene. Investigations into deadly force are comprehensive and can take over a year. A reminder, this is our current understanding of the situation and can change as investigators gather more information. The San Antonio Police Department does not make any determinations as to whether all procedures were followed until all facts are known. All officer involved shootings are forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office for review. As of this publication, the investigation remains ongoing.
