This routine traffic stop is going to get serious very quickly when cops find more than they expected. >> Sorry, we're just going to wait your seat belt the right way, okay? >> All right, listen. I've been doing this a long time, all right? You're displaying a lot of things to me that make me very suspicious. >> Oh my goodness gracious. This is insane. Holy baby. >> Cops pulled over this man after spotting he wasn't wearing his seat belt, but this simple traffic stop is going to quickly escalate. >> I wanted you to pull over to the right, that's all. >> Okay, that's good. >> I'm sorry. >> We're here now, it's all set. >> Okay. >> See you later. >> Sorry, we're just going to wait your seat belt the right way, okay? >> Okay. Sorry about that. >> This is my uh cousin's rental. >> Okay. I don't want that. I I want the uh rental agreement. >> Um >> That's the registration. So, are you on the rental agreement? >> Yeah, I should be a authorized secondary on there. Is there any way you guys can search it up with a plate? Cuz I remember I got into an accident. >> It doesn't work that way. >> It doesn't work that way? >> No. No, it doesn't work that way. >> Just stop out there. They're reading what? Yeah, I want to talk to >> Yeah, cops don't check rental agreements. >> They're checking what? Yep. Pull it up. Yeah, let's all go. >> All right, we'll we'll talk outside the car. >> I'm just going to leave it with the registration. >> Okay. >> It's not giving me a five though. >> Okay. >> The United States Supreme Court >> Okay. >> allows me to ask you to get out of the car. >> I'm good. >> All right? >> Okay, so the cop is talking about the landmark case of Pennsylvania v. Mimms. Basically, what it says is that once you are legally detained in a traffic stop, police can control your movements like making you exit the vehicle. >> The hell are YOU DOING, TOMMY? >> TOMMY! GET OUT THE CAR! >> ANY WEAPONS ON YOU? >> NO WEAPONS. >> JUST keep your hands out of your pockets, sir. >> I'm not patting you down, am I? >> Just come over here. I just told you we're just talking. Just slide on over here. Just slide on over here. >> So, wait. Um >> Let's sort that out, man. >> So, before you search up I usually get like a kind of annoying. Before you search up my name I got a cousin >> Okay. >> I've got a cousin named Patrick Wade, same name as me. >> Okay. >> So, it's they usually get me confused. >> Yeah, I got you. >> So, I wanted to >> It happens. Okay. Um >> I usually get pulled over a lot and I know it's They you guys me for him. >> I've never met you. I have no [ __ ] clue who you are or your brother. >> Appreciate it. >> I don't care. All right? All right. So, it's your cousin's rental? >> Yes. >> So, who's your cousin? Where are you coming from now? >> That's probably not the way to break ice with the cops, letting them know that, "Hey, you know what? You're confusing me from somebody else. I've been incarcerated. I've been to prison." I don't know. I'm going to call BS on that. I think it's him. >> I'm going to get a Oh, wait. Oh, you changed that fire extinguisher right before you got on the road. And I got two nails in the tires right after that. I'm trying to get that situated. >> And where are you coming from now? >> School. I go to Providence College. >> Oh, yeah? >> You see? >> What do you study there? >> Finance. >> Finance? >> I went to Roger Williams there one year for criminal justice. Transfer there. >> All right. Cool, man. What do you do for work? >> Right now, I'm a bus driver. I'm a bus monitor. I want to become a bus driver. My mom's a bus driver, she's trying to get me in that. And I'm a lifeguard on weekends. >> Trying to be a bus driver? If this goes the way I think it is, the only bus you will be on is to the Great Bar Motel. Welcome to Allenville. >> I just took this car for the day. >> We got it, bud. How's your license? >> My license is good. I just got into an accident. >> But it's all active though? >> Yeah, everything's >> No warrants or anything? >> No. >> You ever been arrested? >> Never been arrested. >> Never in your life? >> Never been arrested. >> You already had class today? >> No, I don't have class today. >> No. Nice. Thursday no class? >> No class Friday, but tomorrow's my usually my busy days. 3:00 to 5:00. >> Where's your cousin at? Are you Anything illegal in the car? >> No, nothing illegal. >> No firearms? >> No firearms. >> No cocaine? >> No. >> No large No large large amounts of US currency? >> Um there's probably like 1,000 bucks in the car. >> 1,000 bucks? Okay. Fair enough. >> Well, >> You want No No large amounts of marijuana in the >> I mean, I smoke marijuana, but >> Yeah, no big deal. >> No. >> No large amounts of marijuana in the car? Okay. No unprescribed medications? >> No. >> What's in the Was it vital medical marijuana in the trash bag >> Yeah. >> in the back? >> But they're probably >> Are they empty or full? >> Well, a lot of the boxes are empty, but there's like >> There's just thousand of them in there. Trash bag is >> full, so no big deal. >> Not a thousand. There's no >> Yeah, I mean there's a lot. It's full, so >> I pretty I like smoke a lot of smoke. >> Yeah, that's cool, but okay. >> I don't do nothing. No drugs. >> Anything illegal on you? >> No. >> All right, so tell me now. >> No. >> All right, so we're fine. Put your hands on the car, relax. Um so you know you don't have any trouble. >> He threw his cousin under the bus already. >> How come your brother's not getting you I mean your cousin's not getting you all that stuff? >> And he looks nervous, man. >> Baby. >> Okay. >> Have a seat in my car. You're not under arrest, okay? >> All right. >> Just being detained for now, okay? Um All right, listen. I I've been doing this a long time, all right? All I look for is drugs and guns. So, if you're forthcoming with me, I'm going to be cool with you. I'm just telling you my side. I'm telling you my side, all right? >> I understand. >> So, obviously I have a job to do, all right? And I'm good at my job, all right? You're displaying a lot of things to me that make me very suspicious. >> No, I totally understand. >> All right? So, this is currently your last opportunity. If there's anything small in that car, I I understand. I don't care about small amounts. >> They're just waiting drugs. >> I mean between you and I, there's just a little bit of marijuana. Not that much. >> What's a little bit? >> Probably like literally 2 oz. >> 2 oz? >> It's just in boxes, so it looks a lot. >> Yeah, I got you. All right, just hang on hang tight for me. >> And I have um my cell phones in there, but >> Yeah, how many phones you got? I saw them. >> It's probably like three, but a lot of those are not even like mine. You know what I'm saying? A lot of them aren't. >> All right, just hang tight for me. I appreciate it. >> Damn, five phones? >> Finance. My last year. >> Did you just leave the dispensary? Is that why it's all in the car? What's the story? >> Well, honestly, I smoke a lot of freaking weed, bro. >> Okay, so the cop is a subject matter expert in drug interdiction. Asking about cocaine and fentanyl is part of knowledge, training, and experience. Doesn't believe him whatsoever. Revealing only a small amount of marijuana. The title of the video says otherwise, so either I'm being bamboozled or he's not being honest. >> A lot of freaking weed. >> Okay. >> I like to keep a lot on me. Well, not a lot. I don't really consider that a lot. >> sell it or what? >> Uh I wouldn't say I sell it like my brothers >> Hook your boys up, whatever. >> My brothers smoke a lot of weed. I have a lot of siblings. >> Okay. How much cash is in the car? >> I just took the car for the rear day. I can't say it in my house. I'll probably say like $1,000. >> Okay. >> Or close to 1,000. >> Where is that at? Whereabouts? >> 12 minutes from here. >> All right, give me a second. >> Hold on. I appreciate you. >> Oh, there it is. All the cash. You can tell it's like in a bindle. Or what the kids call one band. He's got a band. And that looks more than 2 oz if you ask me. >> I was selling it. It's all right. It's worth like 0.7 oz, sir. What was it? It was mine. Uh-oh, looks like he found some. >> You good? >> Want to talk to me? >> For what? >> Spot in the cup holder. Found a couple of them. The backseat. >> I don't know what you're talking about, man. >> Damn freaking kilo, dude. And just like that, this routine traffic stop has been upgraded to a Netflix documentary. Oh my god. Holy Found it. Got him. >> We're good. >> Where did you write that? >> okay? It's 5:00. I'm in route. >> I mean, what's going on? >> I just uh bought some stuff in the car that we got to talk about. >> Got some stuff? >> Yep. So, just hang tight for me. All right. I think this guy feels the restraint. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Just great. So, I get him out of the car and he drives by me. He's like freaking out. I'm looking at him. He's right in front of me. >> So, I stop him. No seat belt. >> We can go on. >> I want this on camera. >> Okay. >> All right, he pulls in front of me. He's coming this way. >> All four. >> Rented the car out of New York. He's not on the rental. Can't provide rental agreement. >> What? >> Uh says it's cousin's car. >> Behaviors are there during the interview. >> I was with the rental agreement. >> I want to >> Appears to be over 2 oz, right? So, >> Been there and done that. >> I go through my whole interview. He gives me the consent consent to pat pat him down. Nothing on him. Extremely nervous. Numerous cell phones in the center console. >> $3,000 >> in the center console. So, I'm searching the car and I see So, the third row, I pull down the back seat, get to the third row and I look, I see the couple there. That was not fixed properly in the car. >> Yeah. >> So, I pick it up and I can see appears to be a tan or amber. So, I lift it up more, I see several of them. I think there's like 5 kilos in the rear of this car and So, >> Damn, 5 kilos? >> Yeah, yeah. >> I can articulate everything. >> Yep. >> I just want the dog just to just make it concrete. >> Yep. >> Then I'm going to >> Yeah. >> He's being very He's been very cooperative. >> Okay. >> But it's resolved. >> Yeah, yeah. >> Okay. >> I'm I'm I'm pretty confident with kilos. >> Okay. >> But I could be wrong. >> He feels it in his >> Yep. Excuse me. Stop. Check that. Check that. >> Here. Hop. Man, as you can see, you know what? Canine deployment is super important when it comes to investigating contraband or any of that sort. You can tell that the dog has that alert in the backseat, and that's what you want so you can further in your investigation and strengthen your case as you present that to the courts. Look at the Check the gift. Check the gift. Check the gift. Come on. Check the gift. Come on. He kept coming back. >> Look right here. Oh, he got it. What you What this way and then over? >> You feel it? >> Look, it's all cut out. It's not >> Come on. Hold on a sec. >> There's two over here, too. >> That one. >> It's kilo. >> That one. >> Right? >> That one. >> Hey, you know what? Can you hand me my phone? I want to take a photo, please. >> No, I'm not going >> No, I don't need it. I'm going to rip it right off. He's got the He's got the weed right here to mask the odor of the [ __ ] drugs. He's got the air blasting. >> Where is it? In the quarter panel? >> Yeah, it's all right here. >> Yep. >> Perfect. >> All right, it's Teddy, right? >> Yes. >> Okay, I'm just going to read you your rights. I just want you to listen, okay? >> Absolutely. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you want to talk to me? >> I don't know what's going on. >> All right, I found some packages in the rear quarter of your vehicle that it it it indicative of heavy amount of narcotics. >> Okay. >> What do you know about it? >> I don't know nothing about it. >> Okay. So, you don't know if this this car's loaded with a bunch of kilos? >> I don't know nothing about it. >> Cuz it's loaded with a bunch of kilos. >> I really don't know nothing. >> Okay. It's cool. All right, he's not talking. Oop, right there, right there. Hold it. Camera. You got a multi-tool? >> Yeah. >> I got one. 1 2 3 4 I see five right now. >> Give me one good pull back now. Hold, baby. >> I look out for that. >> And I got this clip here on a multi-tool. >> I don't care. >> It's worth it. >> Yeah, [ __ ] it. >> Tear it apart, man. >> Just leave them all right here for now. >> See what >> It could be anything. Could be crack cocaine. Oh my goodness gracious. >> Wow. >> This is insane. >> Is that five forks? >> Holy [ __ ] They coming. Keep coming, baby. Keep coming. Holy f- Hang on. Just give IT A WALK. ALL RIGHT, this whole fender's got cuz this whole fender's loaded. I'm going to have to get them put him in here in the back right now. >> I want to do that. >> All right. This traffic stop is a good hook, man. >> Got to plug him in. >> I don't know. All right, man. All right. Do you have anything in your back? >> Teddy must be in disbelief. >> All right, you're under arrest. Fresh. Anyway, you can loosen these a little bit. I told you I'm going to be cool with you as long as you're cool with me. And that's that's how handcuffs fit. >> Yeah, fit 52 perfect. I can stick my finger in there. You're okay. >> Thank you. I'm going to hold the flashlight. You stick your head in there. There's some more down there. I can't see. Down there. >> Anything else? >> That compartment? Oh yeah, there's more. Holy [ __ ] There you go. It's probably all clips now. Man, what a good hook. This is crazy, bro. I think I got them all. It goes way down. >> Yeah, let's just put that >> Rip it all apart, man, but don't do it there. Don't do it there. >> That's the money shot. That's everything I've worked for. >> At least someone's having a good day because I have a feeling Teddy is not. >> Oh my god. >> Do we rip the other side off? >> That's good. Thank you. Good point. See, I got tunnel vision. Now, this one's solid. I want to say there might be one more down there. >> That's what I'm trying to get. >> Sarge, cuz it it sinks down. There could be a couple more that fell. I don't I don't know how to get at them. >> We don't have to get at it right now. >> Correct. So, we'll take the photos down to BCI, take him to the station. >> Take him to the station. Take his phone. >> Oh, yeah, I got everything. >> Open the container, too. >> Got the 10 kilos. >> What do we see back? >> iPhones. Where's the marijuana bag? Okay, not only is it a good hook, but this is a search to an incident of a lawful arrest. Impound the car, take it to the station, take your time, and you're going to tear that car apart. As far as all the damage and destruction of all the panels and the seats, that's just the way it goes when you get arrested for a felony. Okay, Teddy was charged with possession with the intent to sell fentanyl and cocaine, drug conspiracy, distribution and manufacturing contraband near schools, and possession to deliver schedule one and schedule two controlled substances. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison with 21 months to be served in custody and 75 months suspended. When he was released, he was sentenced to 8 years of probation. "Dope, money, guns" is what my field training officer used to always tell me when we conducted traffic stops back in my LAPD days.
