On June 18th, 2026, detectives with the Key West Police Department's Special Investigations Unit were monitoring a black Nissan Altima being driven by a man with an active felony warrant. In the passenger seat was a woman known to detectives as a habitual drug offender who had recently been released from the Monroe County Detention Center. Detectives followed the vehicle through the city and moved to initiate a traffic stop. >> Car's taking off. Stand by. The plates, first three are going to be Nora, Foxtrot, Quebec. And then I believe Delta 06 rental. End of encounter for now. >> Detectives did not pursue the vehicle due to heavy traffic in the area. Minutes later, it was located abandoned near an intersection. Officers set up a perimeter, but were unable to locate either occupant. A search of the vehicle turned up a backpack that had been used as a makeshift narcotics kit, along with three cell phones, multiple prescription bottles, and a glass pipe containing a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Surveillance footage from a nearby residence showed the two suspects abandoning the car and running across the street toward a nearby marina, with the woman carrying a black bag in her hand. Roughly 2 hours later, officers located the pair in the back of a ride-share vehicle that had picked them up from that same marina. >> Uh so, we're having a 10-50 [music] on the alley center. 4-10. >> [music] >> 4-4.
