On April 5th, 2026, an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and began monitoring the vehicle's movements. The officer later observed the driver failed to signal during a lane change and initiated a traffic stop in response to the traffic violation. What began as a routine enforcement action quickly developed as the encounter unfolded. >> Uh officer, I was just speeding. >> How's How's it going tonight? >> Good. >> Okay. You got the car in park? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh so the reason I pulled you over is you were going way too I was sitting there uh looking at my computer and I seen you blow by me, okay? >> Yeah. >> So you're going way too fast on the boulevard. You know the speed limit here? >> Uh 45. >> No, it's 30 35. So. Um you got your driver's license on you? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Where you coming from? >> Uh Tampa. >> Tampa? You just now getting here this morning? >> Uh yes, sir. >> Okay. So you drove from Tampa to here overnight? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Is this your car? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Do you have your uh registration and insurance on you? >> Yes, sir. >> So I pulled you over it wasn't just for speed, it was careless cuz you were speeding. You're going at a high rate of speed and then you didn't use your turn signal when you turned when you switched lanes over here. That's why I pulled you over, okay? All right. >> This one's expired. >> Okay. Is that your registration? >> Yeah. >> So. >> What I do I have uh >> Okay, I can look up your plate as long as you have insurance that's that's valid. Is that that's expired, too? >> Yeah. What I do have uh current insurance on my app. >> Yeah, that'll work. I'll just take that then. I don't need the papers then. If you just show me your insurance on your app you'll be good, okay? >> Yep. >> Are you just vacationing here? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. You got anything to drink tonight? >> No, sir. >> No? Okay. Do you even Do you drink? You just Okay. Thank you. Okay. Okay, thank you. All right, I'll be right back, okay? James, did you say who's coming? >> Yeah, I'm hanging out with you guys tonight. >> All right, he's got to check him out. Signal zero, signal zero. Keep your hands on the steering wheel right now. >> Signal zero. >> All right, brother, you got a weapon on you? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, that's fine. You're allowed to have a gun, okay? Can you just do me a favor, though? I just need to separate you right right now. >> Yes, sir. >> So, go ahead and take your right hand, okay? And just take your Take your seat belt unbuckle your seat >> And he put it in his door. He put it in his door. >> Okay. I'll just I got it. Right here? Okay, I got it. I'll just set it >> It's unloaded. >> Okay, thank you. All good. Just going to make make sure this is safe. >> Yeah. >> You're fine. Yes, sir. I need you to check him out. You're good. See you. Can't write that. >> Yeah. >> Do you think you can smell that? >> Oh, all right. Okay. All right, brother. Can you go ahead and put all your stuff wherever you you know, in the console or whatever. I just need you to step out for me. I'm just going to ask you some questions, okay? >> Don't put anything in your mouth. >> Okay. Yeah, I smell it. All right, so go ahead and step out for me. Okay. Just walk over here. Just walk over here. Maddy, can you um like Maddy, can you like turn the car off or anything? So like you see how your gas can's out? What's that what's that what's that about? You don't remember? All right, so I have very high reason to believe that you're operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol right now. So what I need you I'm going to ask you if you want to run through some field sobriety exercises. They're standard standardized field sobriety exercises in order to dispel my belief that you're operating a motor vehicle under the influence. I think you've been drinking and you also have open container right in the driver's side and you said you haven't been drinking. And your eyes are bloodshot, they're blurry, you smell like alcohol. You're driving careless. You have a gun here. You didn't say anything about it. You went to you put your shut You got a police officer at your window and you grab a gun and she's pointing a gun at you and you didn't react at all, right? That I have a lot of belief that you're impaired right now, okay? Would you be willing to run through some exercises to dispel my belief that you're impaired? >> No. >> No, okay. So I do have to give you a warning, okay? It's called the Taylor warning. So based off the totality of circumstances and how everything that I just told you, I have to go off of everything that I know so far, okay? That means I got to go off the open container in the driver seat, the driver floorboard, the way you reacted to my officer here and me. Very You're slurring your speech. You're not reacting very well. So, I'm going off of my belief, and I'm giving you that opportunity to dispel my belief by doing doing standardized field sobriety exercises. So, you Do you want to do those? Okay. Go ahead and turn around and put your hands on your back. >> Relax your hand. Relax it. >> Just relax. Just relax, yeah. Okay. You're not giving me any problems, okay? I'm not going to check you out with the the cuffs, okay? >> 8791 has one in custody. >> There we go. >> Is it good? >> I'll stay here for a moment if you want. >> Um, yeah. So, does that Does that firearm that Does that belong to you, sir? Okay. >> Where is it so I can run it on to? >> It's in my passenger's seat. >> Okay. >> It's It's cleared. >> Okay. Okay. >> So, I'm just going to let you know now. I've I've done this a lot. I don't want to add anything extra to your charges. And if you enter anything illegal into the jail, it's a felony, okay? You don't need to There's no reason to have a felony tonight, right? So, you don't have anything? >> Okay. >> Uh, is your phone and everything in your I'll get all that stuff for you, okay? Let's go this way. And then you're uh coming behind me. I'll put them in my car. All right. Just take a seat in the front of me. Put the window down and get you some air, okay? >> Oh, that scared the [ __ ] out of me, though. >> Yeah, I mean, he's He would have never done that if he was sober, honestly. >> Yeah. >> Cuz he wasn't even reacting to you like pointing the gun at him. He wasn't yelling or anything. You did good. You did You did great. >> Yeah. >> Thank you for doing that. More Yeah, High Noons. So, he grabbed uh When he was in the middle of the traffic, I saw him. I went to go around him. So, I thought he was impaired. So, I was going to run him over, wait for James to get here. Uh he grabbed a Glock, I guess, from somewhere of the Where did you say he grabbed his gun from? >> It came from the from his He pulled it from his right side over to his left side and put it in the door. >> Yeah, he like put it right here. Where his open container is. And I'd asked him if he'd been drinking at all. He's like, "No." And I could smell alcohol and his eyes watering and all that stuff. All right. He was going to McDonald's, I guess. All right. >> I have this niche. That's probably what he was putting right here. >> Oh, okay. So, we got this, too. You got You got test kits? >> Uh yeah. >> Yeah, that'd be great. Is that Stephanie? >> I just got to take any wipes. >> So, take wipes? You see any residue or anything? >> So, I got I see the twisted I see in here or whatever it is. I would be So, >> Is that right? What is that? Like a a plate there. Um Malt beverage. That's a Heineken. >> Heineken? >> Yeah, it's open. Is it Yeah, it's open. >> Oh, yeah, it's pretty cool, too. >> Yeah. He just chucked that. He's probably doing that when he was changing lanes, speeding. We found a joint. Green leafy substance. Uh Davis is going to field test that. Let us know. And just make sure he doesn't have anything else illegal in the car with him. >> Yeah, I'll deal with that for you. Is he active duty, do you know? >> I don't know. He said he's from Tampa, so All right, sir. So, I want to ask you a few questions before they do that. I'm going to read you your Miranda warning, your rights, before I can go ask you any specific questions, okay? All right. So, number one, you have the right to remain silent. Two, anything you can say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Three, you have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. Four, if you can't afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before any questioning, if you wish. Uh you can decide anytime to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights as explained to you? Okay. So, having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to to me now? No. Okay. Got you. All right. I figured I'll just give you >> According to arrest reports, the man was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a DUI test. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers reportedly located several open containers, a marijuana joint, cocaine residue wipes, and a bottle of prescription pills not registered to the man. No additional charges related to those items have been publicly filed at this time. Police records indicate the man later posted bond totaling $20,000 for the two charges.
