When tensions rise, pause and collect yourself. Cooperation and staying calm helps situations de-escalate. Fighting or arguing, particularly with police, often leads to more serious consequences. Let's move on to the next case where an entitled woman refused to leave the hotel and ordered the cops to find her a place to stay. Step out. Step out. >> NO! I'VE BEEN PUNISHED ENOUGH. YOU'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING AGAIN. NO, NO, NO. ON February 4th, 2023, officers responded to a hotel regarding a disorderly woman who refused to leave her room after being told she could not get an extension. Here's what happened next. Mommy, please. Back. Back. All right. So, what's the deal? The deal is you guys are supposed to help me find a place because I put out applications to find a place to live and to have my dog and find a job. But, there's nothing. I'm a drug tested because I'm diabetic. I'm trying to get my CDL. I've asked for no smoking around me. There's a lot of drugs going on. I've asked for another week because I have stuff in storage and I'm moving stuff here and back and forth. My kids have learning disabilities. I have them on certain days of the week. So, I asked them not to go in my room. When they do, they search in my purse. Okay, but you can't stay here. They have told you TO LEAVE. >> ASKED THEM FOR ANOTHER WEEK. >> And they told you no. >> Okay. Because they're going in and stealing. SO, I TOLD YOU HERE YESTERDAY. I TOLD YOU THAT I NEEDED HELP FINDING A place that I can have my dog. Ma'am, that is not the point. >> NO, THAT IS THE POINT. >> NO, IT'S NOT. IT'S NOT THE POINT. >> IT'S THE COUNTY. WELL, WE'RE NOT THE COUNTY. You're part of Lucas County. I lived in Lucas County. BUT WE ARE NOT >> OKAY, BUT YOU GUYS HAVE TO HELP BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE IS HELPING. I GO TO WOOD COUNTY, THEY TELL ME THAT THEY CAN'T HELP ME BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE MY kids full full time. I GO TO FLORENCE COUNTY, they tell me they can't help me because I don't have my kids all the time. I GO TO BOWLING GREEN, THEY TELL ME THEY CAN'T help me because I don't have my KIDS FULL TIME. BUT I CAN CLAIM THEM BECAUSE I'M DIVORCED on my taxes. Okay, so who's wrong? That has NOTHING TO DO WITH I GUESS IT DOES. YOU GUYS AREN'T DOING YOUR JOB, THEY'RE NOT DOING THEIR JOB, YOU GUYS ARE NOT HELPING ME FIND A WHY WOULD IT EVER be the hotel's or the police's job to find her employment or housing? And she still wasn't done ordering the officers around. I get I'm diabetic, I have insulin and needles in there. I do not want them in my room. I have um my guinea pigs, my dog. I do not want them in my room because they're going through my bills, they're getting my name, my first name, my last name, where I used to live. Where I used to live is getting trashed. So, again, you guys need to help find me a place to live because I was wrongfully on Channel 11 News, I was not supposed to be. When I was missing, I was in the hospital. So, that's Channel 11 News' fault, the police's fault. I was not supposed to be. So, again, you guys need to help me find a place to live where it's safe for my kids and where I can have my pets. And where there's no drugs. Because if I have side effects on my medication, I do not want cigarette smoke around me. Okay, ma'am, I have a question for you. If you knew there were the drugs and the cigarettes and everything, why didn't you move to like another hotel? I didn't know until I I here. I'm here for 3 weeks. I cannot be around drugs. I'm here because I'm putting stuff in storage. Okay, but there's Okay. 1500 >> to go DOWN THERE. YOU'RE NOT LETTING ME OUT. OKAY, I'M NOT >> NO, I NO, I'm not playing this game. With her refusing to listen to them, the officers finally had enough and began to take action. He's a pitbull, German shepherd, Rottweiler mix. He's a really good dog. Just he had a rough start and he bit my ex-boyfriend because he had my keys on my hand, my car keys. So, my dog bit him. So, yeah, he's bit one person. AS SHE was being escorted to the car, she started to limp out, forcing the officers to drag her to the vehicle. And then I got in a car accident and then I heard everything. So, I'm about to pee my pants. SERIOUSLY, STOP. NO. WE'RE GOING TO TAKE HER TO THE STATION. >> NO, I'M NOT GOING THROUGH THIS AGAIN. NO. NO. NO. YOU'RE LYING. OH, YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO BREAK MY ARM. YOU CAN STAND UP. >> I'M NOT STANDING UP. I'm going to pee my pants. No. All right, she's going to break. Ouch. I'M NOT GOING THROUGH THIS AGAIN. NO, STOP. I WANT TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. I need to seriously go to the bathroom. >> not going into that room with your dog in there. Okay, I can control him. Is he going to bite us? No. If one guy stand off to the side NO, HE WON'T BITE. >> OR if you lock yourself in the room and get >> not GOING TO YOU GUYS HAVE THE HANDCUFFS. I NEED TO PEE. SERIOUSLY. We're not doing that here. She was charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. When a hotel tells a guest to leave, that decision isn't up for debate. Once police are involved, it stops being a discussion and becomes an enforcement issue. Blaming officers or expecting them to fix personal disputes won't change the result. It only turns a basic trespass situation into a criminal problem. The smarter choice is to comply, even if you think the situation is unfair. Cooperation lowers tension, reduces risk, and gives you room to deal with the issue later without piling on extra charges. Let's move on to the next case where an entitled couple harassed hotel staff over a refund that's not the staff's fault. I'm going to ask you if you've been trespassed already. I need No, you're not getting my money. I'm going to ask you I have not broken the No. No, you're going TO WOAH. WOAH. WHAT THE WOAH. YOU STOP. WOAH. STOP BEING DRAMATIC, MA'AM. Your problem is that you keep thinking you know the law better than I do. I've been doing this a long time. On November 4th, 2024, officers responded to a hotel regarding a couple who were causing a disturbance over a payment issue. Here's what happened next. Screaming and yelling. Because they're saying we charged him for three nights. >> Okay. When we charged him for two nights. There is no way in our system charge without it being attached to a folio. Okay. Screaming and yelling. Won't the owner don't want to leave. Okay. Are they current guests? No, they checked out. Okay. All right. And they're they're never going to call the cops because we stole from them. We did not. I can show you our bill. Okay. So, see in our computer system, when you run a card, it goes directly into our system. One, two. Okay. Here's the first one. Uh-huh. Here's the second one. Okay. This one was declined. Unless this their printout shows the declined and the two sales. These two are mimicking because this is a Right. Got it. authorization. And then we capture their card when they come in and hand our cards. Okay. Okay. I'm not going to hand them anything. I'm going to scream at them. Okay. After speaking with staff and reviewing the transaction paperwork, officers approached the suspects to take their statements. I'll be right back. Hello. Well, we can step out. That's fine. We have our privacy rights just like she has hers. We'll be fine. NO, I KNOW YOU WERE COMING to talk to us. That's okay. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah. That's my style. That's my style. Okay. So, tell me what's going on. Okay. So, I'm going to show you since she showed you her paperwork. >> Okay. All right. I was charged here 104.28, right? One night. I was charged here twice. We stayed two nights. They charged me three times. Okay. And I just want my money back. >> Okay. Have you disputed it with your I don't need to dispute it with the bank because they took the money. My bank didn't take the money. They took it from me. But it's And now I don't They took it. We've got the proof that they did and then the lady started getting an attitude with me and I told her no, I want to speak to your boss. Okay. She told me her boss was in California. Well, I don't give a about that. She's still your boss and she needs to do her job because if you're not going to get ahold of somebody then I'll call somebody else. Well, I'm calling the cops on you. Call them. I'm not going to run cuz I ain't done nothing wrong. Right. Got it. And we can review the cameras where her boss standing right there behind the had to tell her to stop and be quiet because she was causing the issue. All right. So, at this point, they've got one that shows was declined, right? Right. Yes. I understand. It's it's going it's going to be within There were four charges. One got declined >> Right. because the guy put in the wrong number. Okay. Over the phone. Right. The lady here called me. And then we charged We put it on his card instead of my card. The first charge was under my card. Okay, right? The one that got declined. Okay. And then the rest of the charges went to his card under Okay. So So all all three charges that were taken out were under his card. The one that was declined I can prove Well, she showed me three, but one said pre-authorization. You know how they kind of hold until the end. Right. And he waited We waited two days. Okay. They posted. It was posted. And now my bank account's in the negative, so I have a huge problem. And it ain't a corporate It ain't a call a corporate type problem. It's a fix-it problem. Okay. What's going on with them? When a two-day hotel stay leaves your bank account in the negative, it might not be the right time to vacation. The officers asked the couple to leave, but their refusal quickly escalated the situation and led to handcuffs. Give your license or anything. >> No, you're not getting my ID. Okay. They've already asked you to leave. They've already asked you to leave, so you are trespassing. Sir, they've already asked you to leave. And I will leave. >> No, they You're already You're still here. No, they have to ask you. You've been trespassed already. No, you're not getting my ID. I'm going to ask you I have not broken the law for nothing. Stop resisting. What are you talking about resisting, man? Are you kidding me? Resisting what? Resisting what? I TOLD YOU I WOULD LEAVE if you were asking me to leave, sir. I keep saying WHAT I JUST SAID. I JUST SAID I WOULD LEAVE IF YOU ASKED. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO SHE ASKED if she asked you to leave. And you have no right to do this. If she asked you to leave >> way, guys, we're 5-0, we're 5-0. the police department. You have no right to touch me, check my ID, or anything. I asked you if you were asking me to leave, you would not answer me, sir. You've already been asked to leave. Well, then I told No, by who? By them. I don't care about them. I asked you. >> It doesn't matter. I asked you directly if I was being asked to leave, you would not answer me. Then you grabbed me and put me in handcuffs. I was never asked to leave. We were standing here having a conversation, ma'am. You're going TO DENY THAT? DO YOU HAVE YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE, MA'AM? She doesn't deny that. Can I have it? >> No. You're going to go in handcuffs as well, ma'am. WELL, THEN I'LL WALK OUT TO THE ROAD. YOU'VE already been asked TO LEAVE. OKAY, WELL, I'm leaving. Don't touch me. >> no, you're going in handcuffs. DON'T YOU TOUCH ME. YOU STOP STOP BEING DRAMATIC, MA'AM. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. EVEN WITH THE HANDCUFFS ON, they still refused to listen to anyone. I don't have nothing else to SAY TO YOU. I DON'T care what you got to say. I have nothing else to say to you. What they're doing right now is illegal, ma'am. >> Okay. All right. I asked him if you asked us to leave and he would not answer me and then he put me in handcuffs for no reason. You're being detained right now. No, there ain't no detain. I'm in handcuffs, that means I'm going to jail. You're being detained. I'm in handcuffs, that means I'm going to jail. I was not being violent. I was not doing anything. There's cameras on here just watching. I'm not being detained. You're taking me to jail today, please. I'm not taking you to jail. You're Oh, no, I'm going to jail. Do you want to go to jail? I'm in handcuffs, I want to go to jail. YES, SIR. HEY, GIRL, BABY, DON'T TALK TO HER. SHE'S NOBODY. You put me in handcuffs cuz I was standing here talking to you. Who do you think you are? I'm Deputy Vilhauer with the Santa Rosa Police Department. >> yeah, and I'll be talking to IA and your boss. Well, you don't talk to IA. You might want Yeah, you do. Yeah, you do. That's where the formal complaint goes. You know, not when you call and I want to talk to your sergeant type Yeah, no, I know I can't do We were standing here having a nice, peaceful conversation, ma'am. >> Yes. There was no reason for you to put your hands on anybody. Deputy Robbins asked you >> for my ID and got pissed off cuz I wouldn't >> No, you refused to twice. Exactly, and I don't have to give you my ID, bro. I have not broken a law. What law did I break? Cuz they want you to trespass. That is not a law. That is not a criminal offense. No, it is not. It is a civil in front No. All right, you know the law better than I do. They stole money from me out of my groceries now. I lost my grocery money. I understand that, but that's a That is a civil issue, but you make it a criminal issue when they've told you to leave and you're still here. >> me to stay. She said, "No, hold on. Let me go pull up this paperwork." Yes, she did. Pull up the cameras. She said, "Go back there and pull up the paperwork." Okay, well, there is cameras. Okay. So, she lied to you and I'm going to jail because she lied to you? >> You're going to jail because she told you guys to leave and your Is that That's your husband or boyfriend? He's already admitted to it as well, so The officers then escorted them to the squad car. Nobody's broken the law here, man. This is the problem people have with police right here. Violating my rights. You think I don't know my rights? You're an expert. Hell yeah, hell. I'm an expert on the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth amendment rights. And my rights are that you cannot ID me unless I broke a law. Good. All right. Can I have a seat back here? Have a seat for me. Failure to ID? Yes. >> What law is that? You're on the property that they asked you to leave. I'm not Yes, it's 810.8 A They said 1011 if you want to look at it. >> trespass. That's trespass on structure structure or conveyance. That's trespass on structure structure or conveyance. I told you guys I would leave, man. She did, too. And you threw us in handcuffs anyway because we wouldn't ID. Yeah, exactly. You We don't have We don't have time. Trespassing is not Look, that's that's civil, bro. And you know it as well as I do. And we told you we would leave. This is ridiculous. Guys, are Y'all kidding me, man? >> Dude, it was ridiculous. That's why we're trying to help you out. I was standing there speaking to you, bro. I wasn't Yes, but then as soon as Hey, hey, as soon as Debbie Robbins asked you, you started getting super animated and looking like you were going to take off. If I was going to take off, I would have left before you guys got here, man. I stayed here waiting on you because somebody called you. >> think like Would you really think this is what we wanted to do? No, I don't think this is what you wanted to >> didn't want to kick you while you're down. >> do either, man. You guys wanted to leave. I would have >> and that's what I'm saying, sir. We're trying to figure out to to get your money back, to see what was going on. And all T was going to do was issue a simple trespass That's what it was, just a piece of paper. That was it, man. But you made it a lot more by refusing to provide identification when he asked you. When I get asked for ID by law enforcement, it makes me feel like I've broken the law. Well, we can't issue you a trespass warning if we don't know who you are. Right. >> It's just going to say unknown white male with a I understand that part. So, we need to ID you so we can issue that warning. >> that part completely, but that was my whole thing, man. That's all we're trying to do. That's all we're trying to do. That's all we're trying to do. >> You don't need my ID. You don't need nothing if I'm leaving, right? I'm gone. No more problems. We have to a trespass warning because They didn't want They didn't want They didn't ask, sir. Sorry, I just got to get off this foot. You're good, man. You can slide in. So, you told them two between two to three times to leave? >> I asked them to leave, and I asked them to First, I asked them to settle down. Then I said, "I'm going to get the paperwork from our night audit, which shows the transactions for the day." Mhm. I tried to explain to him they didn't want They did not want me to explain to them. They said All she said was, "You'll see your She showed me her bank account. I didn't even look at it." But she just turned the phone around and said, "I have three entries here." And I said, "Well, one is pending." And I said, "One will fall off." I said, "And um most institutions they'll fall off between 7 to 10 business days. We have no control over that." But they were They were adamant that we stole money from them. And that we were going to give it to them. They were not leaving. And they wanted to speak to the manager. Um but I did ask him to leave. Okay. Do you mind including that in your statement that you did tell them to leave? >> Mhm. Okay. The officers then escorted them to the squad car. >> I know, officer. Why? By doing five over the speed limit? This is not a stop and ID state. That's not the law. You think you know everything is the issue, sir. That's That's your problem. Your problem Your problem is that you keep thinking you know the law better than I do. I've been doing this a long time. You don't. >> and ID state. You don't. No, it's not, sir. It's not a stop and ID state. The man and the woman were charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespassing. You don't win legal arguments by being loud or arrogant. When staff and police tell you to leave, leave. Pride and attitude don't cancel facts. They just fast-track you from an inconvenience to a criminal charge. Sometimes the smartest move is knowing when the argument is already over. Thank you for watching. Don't forget to like and subscribe so you don't miss out on the next interesting videos.
