I was on the phone with the cops. I was like, "Yes, I'm here talking with the cop." And I was on the phone with the station. I was like, "I'm here talking with the cop." >> Who were the other two that were there? And she was filming, too. >> Yes. >> Which can all So, I hope your friends can know that. >> I do not know them. >> Without that video, it could go a different way for your friend. >> Well, I don't I don't know that girl, so I don't know. >> Right. >> We can either ask my friend. >> Yeah, that's fine. But like, Will should have enough on his video. >> Of course. >> Right. >> This guy's approaching me, puts the phone away, and now he got to hit him one time cuz he's getting too close. >> Right. Like, you can see Will backing away. >> Yes. He was backing away on the video. >> He was backing away the whole video. And you can see the other guy making aggressive movements towards him. >> We don't want to do this. >> Right. >> That is the video. >> Right. Which is why we need to talk to Will. >> Of course. >> Okay. Cuz there's no audio on the video I've got. And it could be swung either way right now. Now, if I get Will's video and you can clearly see that guy coming at him, it's >> Cuz I'm right there and I'm like, "Yo, calm down." And >> You are allowed >> backing up. This guy's approaching me. This guy's approaching me. >> Yeah. >> Put the phone away. Hit him one time. >> But, you're allowed to defend yourself. Like, >> is. >> that look like a situation that where he could have definitely felt threatened. >> on video. >> Right. >> Yo, this guy's approaching me. He said that. I'm backing up. This guy's approaching me. Okay. >> That's why I need Will's number. >> Okay. But, I don't have his number. And he would definitely not answer right now. >> need him to answer right now. I just need his number. >> I don't have his number at all. >> You don't have his phone number at all? >> I don't have his number. I don't know his last name. >> Where was he in school with you? >> Q S High School. >> Q S High School? Same grade? >> No. Couple years older than me. >> Couple years? >> Yeah. >> Like how many? >> Two. >> Two years? So he was a senior when you were a sophomore? >> Like two or three. Two. >> Two or three? >> Yeah. >> All right. Hold up. I got to give you a case number so you can contact me once we find out who Will is. >> With witnesses identifying the man who threw the punch as Will, officers began trying to locate him and obtain his side of the story. Later that day, Will came to the Key West Police Department voluntarily and explained what he claimed had happened. >> I'm Officer Bosetti with the Key West Police Department. How are you? >> I'm doing good. How are you? >> What's your name? >> Uh William. >> William? Hi. >> Sean O'Taylor is my brother. >> Okay. Hi. >> Hi. >> What's going on? >> Uh last night I was hanging out with some friends downtown and this guy would not leave me alone. >> That plane's about to get real loud. >> I told him again, I said, "Step back. Leave me alone." I even took a video of telling the guy like, "Are you stepping up to me?" Like he would not me alone. I tried walking from the front of the bull like off of Duval Street towards like I don't know the street name but by a general horse play. >> Mhm. >> And I was I probably walked near like halfway down the street trying to get away from the guy. He didn't leave me alone so I hit him. And then on my part, I know it's bad but I left but I didn't know what to do. I mean, I was not expecting my night to go that way and I figured I'd come here to talk to y'all cuz I know obviously cops were called and I just yeah, I don't I've never been in a situation like this so >> Okay. Um well, I appreciate you coming in and talking. Um do you have that video? Um of >> snippet or whatnot but this is the guy who's walking up to me. stepping up to me. >> No. >> Hey, you stepping up to me? >> I'm not like >> Hey, you stepping >> Like I said, I figured I'd get a video. He's walking up to me and you can see he is aggressive. I don't know this guy. He's bigger than me. I'm not a dude. >> Okay. What time was that taken? Can I look at that? Okay, do you have your ID with you? >> Uh I actually don't have my ID. Like I've lost my ID. I do have a photo though. >> Okay, can I see that, please? So, um you have no idea who this guy is? You what? >> I don't know his name or any of that. Like I random guy. Like I said, I was honestly I was about to head home and we were all walking doing one of the last walk or what not and then I was going to go I was waiting for one of my other friends to get down into town so he can give us a ride home or what not instead of Ubering and then like I said, all that happened, but I was about to head home. >> I know it's a lot of questions, but we have to fill all this stuff out. >> I actually before I left I was working in the jail so I told him in the town. >> Okay. Anything that we have not asked you that you think is pertinent for us to know? Like any anything else that just pops in your memory about him, who he may have been with, you know, any any communications between him and your friends, your friend group or anything that can help us out a little bit? >> I don't know. I mean, like I said, I'm still confused on the whole situation because I mean, like I said, I the guy it was like he just was like aggressive while he was just an aggressive dude. >> Yeah. You left out the pocket comment. Um was he saying anything to you as he's following you or was he >> was following me, I don't really remember him saying anything besides or what? Or what? Like it's just what he kept saying, or what? And that's when he's stepping up to me. And he like I said, he did say um and he kept saying like I don't know him and I was like, yeah, you're right. Like I don't know who you are, but >> Like he was saying, you don't know me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> was saying there, he's like, you don't know who I am? You don't know me? And I told myself, like I don't need to know who you are. >> And um I guess the other thing so you know Austin that we talked about And this is first time. So, just what hand did you punch him with? >> My right. >> Okay. And if you can just get an image of >> Yeah, I don't I don't think there's anything here. >> Can you put them both out for me, please? >> I'm not for sure on where he went after this situation. Uh like I said, I ended up getting picked up by my friend uh Vinnie. And he didn't see none of it cuz he was heading down. And then I ended up going to the Airbnb. So, do you need the other side or anything or no? >> Did you um Yeah. Did you um get injured at any point in any way? >> No. >> No. You just You hit him one time and >> Yeah, I hit him one time and that was all I needed and I left. That was it. I just tried to stop the situation and get out of there. >> I think we'll get uh thank you. I appreciate you coming back. >> Thank you so much. Thank you for coming. >> Yeah, so the the the officer should be working if he's not because he might have a vacation day or whatever. I'm not sure. Um things happen all the time. It would be Sergeant Divine. Who will be in contact with either one of you on his behalf or assign another officer to to talk to you. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Will maintained that he had been trying to walk away and only threw a single punch because he believed the other man was becoming aggressive. However, as investigators reviewed additional video from the scene, they concluded the footage told a different story. Investigators ultimately determined there was probable cause to arrest Will for felony battery. >> Will still just has to come out of pocket. >> We can give that to your brother cuz he's just going to throw that away in jail, okay? >> I don't have a penny. >> Yeah. >> Cool. >> You got an ID in the car? >> Well, I lost my ID. You lost your ID? >> Well, okay. >> There's a gentleman in the lobby with you. >> This is my brother. >> Your brother? Is Was he your >> Can you just let him know I'm going in? >> Yeah. Is there anything that you want that you want me to give him that you might >> Uh yes. I mean don't change in the bathroom. I would give him the bracelet. You're good. >> Okay. Uh I'm going to go ahead, I'm going to explain to him what's going on and everything. Okay, I know >> he can call home. >> Yep, that way everything knows okay. >> Yeah, just kind of turn around, have a seat backwards. Kick your feet in there. >> Let him know that the county should be able to give him a phone call and everything. Do you need anything else from me, Anson? Really quick, what was your brother driving? >> Uh it's a red 20 It's 2019 GMC 2500. You'll see it. It has stickers on the back and it goes lights and [ __ ] >> Okay, it's red GMC? Okay, all right. >> Damn, I hope this quick. I'm trying to This [ __ ] is so uncomfortable. Damn. I say what's some advice on like what? Lean forward a little bit or something? Cuz this hurts. >> Probably. It's >> Like I thought they had like little pockets that your hands, you know what I'm saying? Like a little space right there. >> The nice ones do, bro. >> Damn, you don't got the nice one? >> This is the downtown unit. >> Damn, when I get in this jail I used to work there. >> Check it out. As soon as we're up there >> Yeah. >> Um the one you'll be out of the car so you're not going to be pinned like that. >> Mhm. >> And they'll get you uh unhooked. >> Yeah. I was going to say actually I worked in the jail for 3 years. >> Oh, okay. >> I just moved back to Key West and yep, I should have stayed out. But it's all right, [ __ ] happens. So that's for the guy, he good? [ __ ] I'm happy I'm able I ate before I came. >> So hopefully you see the judge in the morning. >> Yeah, I thought they didn't do first on the weekends. Like I said, I mainly shouldn't have just I should have just not did what I did, but I mean at the end of the day I thought I was in the right besides the leaving part. Walking out of me just smiling and laughing like of course I'm a hater. Like not even on like I don't even do none of that. You know, it was just I didn't know what the hell was about to happen. >> Yeah, what's the scary part about, you know, >> I was going to try and get into something bigger than just working inside the jail maintenance, you know. Yeah, no. Like I said, I was I wasn't sitting there trying to fight no dude. Like the dude was bigger than me, you know what I'm saying? It was just I mean, I really felt like he was about to do something, so I just hit him. And it's just it everything after that like for example, like I I didn't even know he hit his head on the Like I didn't know any of that. Like >> You said he is at the right spot? >> Yeah. >> No, he's at the >> Yeah, he's out of town, man. That's crazy. What? I ain't getting no sleep. That's crazy. >> Like what started the whole >> I walked past the dude. I didn't even say anything to him. Like, you know, I was literally about to head home. And the dude, I remember seeing him like he was really drunk sitting on the side. >> Was he sitting on the side? >> And like I said, I'm a use you could watch all the cameras. Like you see me, I just walked by him. Like I look at him, yeah, because I mean, he was a drunk dude. Like dude was like down or whatever. And then I keep walking and then he's coming up. Like I see him slowly wobbling or whatever, you know, coming towards me. So then that's when I stepped up to him and I like, you know, sat there and talking to him or whatever, but I didn't get physical cuz it didn't need to. And I went to go walk away. And then as I'm walking away, the dude, he's coming up to me and yeah, he looked off. So I ended up hitting him. Like I didn't know what what else to do. What to just run away? Like Well, I drive downtown almost every single night. Like it's just something I I can't sit in one place. So I'm always driving around. It's something I've always done, like to do. And what? I would have just ran away that night or whatever. What if this dude had remembered me? Came the next day or something. Yeah, I I'm downtown all the time driving around. Like, you know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. >> It's just like I said, I mean, obviously with everything that did happen or whatever. >> into him earlier in the night or nothing like that? >> No, I don't know this guy. Like at all. Sweating. It's hot back here. Like bro, I can't even got the handcuffs in the front. I ain't going to do nothing. I'm like 145 lbs. >> The victim suffered an intracranial hemorrhage, required intubation and ventilation, and was admitted to the ICU after being airlifted to a Miami area hospital. Court records indicate the suspect pleaded not guilty, and the case is still pending.
