This routine traffic stop turns a bit chaotic when an intoxicated driver resists and her navy husband confronts the cops. Take a look. >> I was going to let me to put my car. >> Are you all right? >> Yeah, I'm fine. >> You're good? >> to let me to put my car in >> Into the parking lot. Are you okay? Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before you drive, are you okay to drive? >> I have to be honest. I was at the um the um what do you call it? The And we had two cocktails. That's all. >> Do not drive. Move. Hold on. Hold on. Don't move. Just hang on. Information. I've got a definite signal one. Can I get a zone to me? Do me a favor. You just stay right there in your car. Sit down. >> No, I'm good. >> No, sit down. >> Yeah, I'm fine. No, I'm hurting and I'm 71 years old, so it's really hard for me to sit. >> Okay, so then maybe just lean up against Okay, so then get up and maybe lean against your car if you can't sit down. >> You don't know what I've done today. >> All right, well, if you're 71, you probably shouldn't be drinking and driving. >> I'm in so much pain. >> You don't have to sit down. Maybe lean up against your car. Are you with her? Okay, then. >> Thanks. >> You know, I'm kind of hoping when I'm 71, I should be definitely drinking, right? I got to have uh my favorite drink is the I got to have an old fashioned, right? With Japanese whiskey, Suntory. That being the case, let's focus on what's going on right now. Look, you got a DUI and we've done a lot of DUIs in this channel and I've become [music] a DUI expert to let you know what is a standard field sobriety test and other issues that come up when you're faced when a driver is impaired, okay? Look, don't be drinking and driving. You probably had a bad day. I get that what's going on. I believe that zone, I think she said calling for a zone is asking for a backup so that they can actually help investigate. Someone's going to have to control the scene while someone does the standard field sobriety test and continues their DUI investigation, okay? >> You might want to just go comfort her. >> No, just stay for right now. I have a few other driving duties. >> It doesn't matter. Where did you think it would be a good idea? >> Just listen. >> Why do you think it's a good idea to drive while drinking? >> It's not a good idea to drive while drinking. >> Have you been arrested for a DUI in the past? >> Never. >> Never? Okay, well, there's a first time for everything. Do you want to just go hang out with her? Have her grab her license, her registration, her insurance for me. >> No, never, never, never. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you have um your license in your purse? Your license, is it in your purse? >> Yeah, let me just see what I can do. >> Okay. Okay. I think she's a little a little bit. So, what happened? Where were you? >> Sitting right here. >> At the stop sign waiting to turn. >> And she came from >> She was right there. >> And >> And I could see as she was turning She was trying to hit me. >> Oh my god. Oh, it's the back door, okay. I thought your damage is in the front, so. >> It's really incidental. And if you look at her front front bumper, you can see where she She's a And she She just hit us. We were over on her side. >> Do you have your license, your registration, your insurance? Passenger, do you also have a ID on your license, ma'am? >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> It's drive them. No, I know, but I was a passenger in the vehicle. It's It's important for us to include you in the report, that way in case there's anything that comes up later. Plus, the more witnesses right now, the better. >> Two hundred miles like a garbage. >> I wonder if she >> She was like, "That stupid animal phone cuz she's saying, 'Mark, I need you right now. Where are you? I need you right this minute.'" >> [snorts] >> My husband killed me. >> I live in Jacksonville and she lives down here. >> Oh. Is this the most fun you've had together in a while? >> Yeah, on our way home. >> How much fun could it be getting involved in a TC, a traffic collision, right? All that's good information. The fact that the deputy's completely right. Look, the more information you get from witnesses, so the little that I know about these traffic accident investigations, I believe the drunk driver's going to be party one. The ladies that were just spoken to, those are witnesses. You got witnesses one, witnesses two, and they become party two. All that information is super important so that when you move forward, in case >> [music] >> you do the insurance claim, and now you got more evidence, not just driving impaired, but you have a traffic collision, which is going to add to the investigation when you're doing that DUI investigation report. >> Did you find your registration? >> Um what I had in here was um Give me a sec. All of this Geico Put in there. That's what I had. >> All right, just give me a sec. >> Yeah. And um I know that my husband could probably drive us home. We're like It's two blocks away. >> It doesn't matter. >> What's up? >> Aha. >> How many drinks did you say you had? >> Two. >> Okay. This maybe husband? >> I think >> Who she called? So as she was coming around >> Ridiculous. >> Can you just give us a sec? >> Ridiculous. >> So she >> Sir. >> I'm sorry. >> step over there for me, please? I'm standing right here. >> Okay, go right there. You're way out of line. I My wife does not. >> I'm doing my fair Listen, you're interfering with my investigation at this point, okay? I need you to step over there for me, okay? >> I will stay right there. >> Then go over there, then, please. Thank you. >> She was coming around the corner, just came >> She got like >> straight into this car. >> Here it is. >> All right, uh straight into the back of it. I come up and I'm like, "Oh, can we all move into the parking lot?" And she was like, "No." And then she starts stumbling all over the place. I was like, "Are you all right?" And she's like, "No." I just had a couple drinks and I'm like, "Oh, well, so give me your key. You shouldn't be driving. Don't move your car into the parking lot. We'll just stay right here." And then I called for you guys. All right. I'm going to start doing some paperwork for the driver exchange. >> All right. Did you want her registration and everything already? >> Uh yeah, I already attached the tag and her license. >> Excuse me, sir. What are you doing? >> So what happened today, ma'am? >> What? >> What happened today? >> Okay. My husband and I decided that we wanted to go and have sushi. We went to go and have sushi at Fujiama's. >> Okay. >> He had a two He had two um What do you call them? God, I'm bad at those things. Because I'm not good. Um He had two cocktails. >> I had two cocktails. We had a wonderful meal. >> Okay, so let's all pretend that we have a an imaginary BS button. So every time that you want to call BS, you know what? Push it. Cuz I'm going to push it right now. Why does everybody always say two drinks? I suppose if you say one, like that's not enough, right? But if you say more than two, I don't know. What's the difference? Maybe say three or four, but everybody always says two cocktails, two tequila shots, uh two shots of whiskey, two shots of vodka. It's always two. And [music] you tell me, help me out, right? Let's do a survey. Why do you think that all suspected drunk drivers always say they only had two drinks? >> And we started to leave, and then this happened. And I do I have no idea what happened. It was very fast. >> Sir. Sir. Hello. How are you? Can you all listen? Let's see how you're doing back there. Ma'am, you need to >> No. >> I'm going to have to arrest you. >> Why are you arresting my husband? >> Ma'am, can you Ma'am, can you >> No. No. No. >> Ma'am, can you step >> No. I don't give a [ __ ] Why are you arresting my husband? >> Let the police officer >> No. No. No. No. I will not step back. I will not step back. >> Let the police officer >> No. My husband is arrested for what? What the [ __ ] >> Ma'am, you >> He wasn't even driving. I was the driver. >> Sir. Please. I'm being as I'm being as nice as I can right now, okay? Do you have a seat in the vehicle? >> I'm a Why is he being aggressive? No. No. >> Follow my direction. We asked you nicely to step away. >> No. >> You refused. >> Even if in the end you decide that you don't want a crash report for this, >> that. so if you decide that you don't want a crash report for this, at least you do get her off the road. This does look like it's minor and it can probably It's okay. I was going to find your insurance anyways, but what we're going to do is I'm going to see if my partner met Yeah, bad. And I think he is, too. >> Please go Hey. Please go back to your car. Please go back to the car. The police officer's doing his job. I have absolutely no illegal weapons. My ID is in my wallet, my back. It's all fixed. I was going to get back to US Naval officer. This is really ridiculous. >> No, I don't think it's ridiculous. I think that you actually interfered with an ongoing DUI investigation. That's one. Number two, you know what? I expect more from a US Naval officer. And me, having been a retired Navy, which by the way, on a side note, I don't know if you knew this or not, but you know what the Navy stands for? Never again volunteer yourself. Okay? Bet you didn't know that. With that being said, shout out to USS Constellation CV-64, did two Westpacs. And here's the deal, man. You can't just be walking up to what you believe that you Oh my god, my wife is I don't know what is it that you were thinking. You I know you're out there recording, but that's not the kind of behavior that you want when you arrive at scene again of this crash investigation, this traffic collision investigation, if you will. Cooperate and be respectful, but no, you just had to go and interfere. And here's the other thing, too, that I've learned back in my days in LAPD is those cuffs to come on can easily come off, right? Just because you're being detained with handcuff doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to go to the Greybar Motel, but you got to cooperate, all right? Just kind of chill a little bit. >> Um, we're going to see if my partner mandates that there has to be a cross report for this, but right now all I'm doing is I have her key. I have her key, just so you know. She's about to take off again. >> Well, that's what I said that she did. >> She didn't want to stop to begin with. >> So, give me a second. Let me finish um writing this up. Saint, is it in reverse? >> This is so >> This part >> I can't believe this. >> LISTEN. >> OW! >> YOU NEED TO YOU GOT TO >> YOU DON'T TOUCH ME. YOU DO NOT TOUCH ME. YOU DO NOT OW! YOU DON'T YOU DON'T TOUCH ME, YOU LITTLE [ __ ] ASS. [ __ ] Let me get into my car. Let me get into my car. Let me get into my car. OW! >> [screaming] >> OW! OW! OW! WHY ARE YOU hurting me? >> Why are you not listening? Why are you not listening? >> I'm sorry. This is awful. I need to close my door, please. Can I please close my car door? Can I please close my car door? Oh my god, what are you doing to me? Why are you doing this to me? Oh my god! >> I'm over here. >> That's you. No! I want to get my car. What is wrong with you? >> Don't you speak to her. >> Why do you do this? want Why do you do this? I'm really wondering what the you're doing this. I'm hurting. I'm really hurting. I'm I'm 71 years old. I'm very hurting. Can you please open >> Well, you're 71 years old, but you're not listening. >> Yes, you. >> Okay. >> You know what? You What am I not listening to, you little [ __ ] I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What the [ __ ] is wrong with you? >> I'm a patrol. You got it? >> Yeah, I got >> This is insane. >> Listen, I'm going to ask you a question. Do you mind conducting a field sobriety exercise? >> I can't hear you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please Please let me get closer to you so I can hear you. >> Can you hear me? >> Yes, I can, sir. >> Do you mind conducting a field sobriety exercise? >> Do I What? Say that again. >> Field sobriety exercise. >> Yeah, of course. >> You'll do it? >> Yeah, of course. Absolutely. >> Just a sec. >> Yeah, I don't have any problem with that. >> She right over here. You guys okay? >> Yeah. You know what? I'll never get this fixed. >> What is that? >> her off the road. >> Who? >> That woman. >> What do you mean? >> I knew she was drunk as soon as she got out of the car. >> Oh, okay. Okay. >> Drunk or high or something. >> What? >> Because she kept saying I'm I'm right here where she hit me. And she kept saying I ran into her. And she was parked She was parked there and she turned. >> What happened? >> And I could feel she hit me. And then she kept going and I had to run her down. >> Where Where did she hit you at? >> Right Question for you. She's saying it's minor and she can probably work it out, but do we need the crash for that to stick? >> Yeah. >> All right, so I'm going to go ahead and do a crash report, okay? Just give me a second. I'm going to finish up this paperwork. >> I'm going to back up. >> Okay, I'll get you out of here. >> Go ahead and un-cuff my vehicle for >> I can't do this. I have hurt my hand. Can you please help me? Can I help you >> off by you not yelling at me? >> No, no, I'm not yelling at you and you know that, ma'am. I'm having a conversation with you and you keep talking over me. Are you going to stop talking over me? >> Can you tell me if I can get this off because my I have hurt my hand and I'm in a lot of pain. >> Okay, what about it hurts? >> that, please? >> What about it hurts? >> The left one. >> Okay. >> You see, let me just show you. >> moving. Stop. Stop moving. You don't need to do that. >> Jeez. >> Put your palms together. >> Yes. >> Does that still hurt? Does it still hurt? >> Yes, it does still hurt. >> Okay, so let's go back to handcuff procedures 101. Look, in the academy, myself along with probably all deputies and officers across the nation, you know, when we're in the academy for like, I want to say a couple of months doing self-defense handcuff procedures, we're wearing these handcuffs every single day because we kind of got to get it right for them to be, I suppose, comfortable. But, here's the deal, they're never comfortable. They are meant for you to be in discomfort, right? With that being said, like the deputy was saying, look, if you put your palms together, then you can actually click on both sides and you have to double lock them. Back in my days, you didn't really double lock the actual handcuffs, but these handcuff procedures, you know, when everything is going down, movement, you know, all these different variables and you're trying to cuff someone, especially when they're on the ground and you're trying to grab the hands, it turns out that the palms, you know, kind of face away. So, what you want to do is, once you gain control, take off the handcuff and just grab the palms in the hands so they're together and make them a little bit more comfortable, all right? And again, they're meant for discomfort, all right? Just wanted to let you know about handcuffing procedures. >> Because I have a left a hand that I I I slammed when my dog died. >> Okay. >> And um I I'm fine. >> How does that feel? >> Better out of it. >> Much better. Thank you very much. >> Okay, go ahead keep your palms together for me. Okay. Can you lock it for me, please? >> And I'm just hoping that can I please have some water? >> I need In a second. You got nothing on you? You got a toothpick, nothing like that? >> I need some water really bad. Really really bad. >> Go ahead and have a seat, ma'am. >> I don't know how to do that. >> Go ahead and take your left foot. Left foot up there. >> I can't hold. >> Okay. >> This is ridiculous, you guys. What the [ __ ] is wrong with you? I'm sorry. This is ridicu- I can't do it. >> What then? >> I can't get out there. Can you get me out here and then put it back on me? >> No, ma'am. Take a step with your left leg. >> I can't. >> Take a step with your LEFT LEG. >> SHUT THE [ __ ] UP. >> OKAY. BYE. Get in the car. Figure it out now. >> High blood pressure. Evil. >> Yes. No, she got it. >> I can't. >> Ready? >> Stop. >> I'm going to help you out, ma'am. >> I know you're trying to help me, but I'm 71 years old. It's not like I'm a [ __ ] 30-year-old. I'm not a [ __ ] I I don't I need to hold on to something. >> I'm holding it right here, ma'am. Put your foot up. >> Yeah, but you're not helping me. >> Okay, lift up and I have >> Can you Okay, can you do me a favor? Um can you help me? Yeah, I understand. I understand. >> Her husband is in the back of this one. >> Who's Okay, so everyone's drinking. >> Well, she showed up on foot, charged it back. >> Okay, and she's the DUI. >> Yeah. >> Good. >> I can't help that I can't help it. >> What was that? >> I need these off. >> You're not getting them off. >> Well, then you were going to go [ __ ] yourself and I can't do this. >> You can't pick your left foot up. PICK YOUR LEFT >> WHY AM I BEING ARRESTED? I don't know. I want to know why I'm arrested. >> Because you are impaired. >> Oh, [ __ ] >> Smell the alcohol on you. >> Let me take you to my vehicle. Let's walk. >> It doesn't matter. I was like a week a walk away from my house. >> If I may interject and I just want to point out something because I've been getting a lot of comments about DUIs. I know I've done a lot of these uh standard field sobriety tests. I explained it to you. I even gave you the history. If you're new to the channel, one of the episodes before I gave you the history >> [music] >> of NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Administration, how back in the 1970s they came up with these three tests, right? The horizontal gaze nystagmus, uh the one-leg stand, and uh walk the walk and turn, right? Uh heel-to-toe. With that being said, there is comments and it makes sense and I'm going to own up to the fact that alcohol doesn't really have any odor. I get that part, but we're always saying that you reek like alcohol, like emitting out of your breath or emitting from the vehicle. So, what I'd like to know, and maybe you can help me out on the comments, is that you tell me uh pass or fail. And again, I know it's not a pass or fail type of test, and there has been a lot of comments about the fact that hey, they're designed for the suspected drunk driver uh to uh not to pass the test or to be impaired. Because in the end of it all, it's what? It's either whether you're impaired, right? [music] And you cannot operate a vehicle or you're not, right? So, you tell me, what do you think if she would have performed on that SFST? I don't know, you tell me. >> Is she a combatant? >> Back away from the car, Jerry. Ma'am, back away from the vehicle. >> SORRY. >> OW! >> I CAN'T. >> OW! >> You want to take the other dude out of my car? >> All right. >> I am so >> Just get him the heck out of my I'll just take him out of the car. >> I am so mad. >> What the heck do you do in your job? >> Okay, thank you for being calm right now. Just take a step to this side of this vehicle. Thank you. >> This is fine. >> Who is she to you? >> My wife. >> Sir, your wife? >> Okay. >> Where do you guys live? >> Miami Gardens. >> Sir, you have a backpack in I do not have any narcotics on me. >> I don't. >> I live in South Florida. I'm Carl. I'm a federal marshal. US Naval officer. >> Okay. >> I don't. >> So, why is she drinking? >> I think >> Our friend was lost last night. I got hit run over by a car >> Uh-huh. >> last morning. >> Okay. >> She's in a really bad state. >> Is that an excuse to drive though, like >> No, ma'am. It is not. >> why she is drinking? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Were you guys drinking together? >> No, ma'am. We were not. I was in the bedroom. I did not know she had left the house. All I do is got a phone call. >> Okay. >> I do not have any moving or speeding ticket. You can get your >> my license. >> I bet you don't. Thank you for being as calm as you are right now. I really appreciate that. I'm going to be releasing these cuffs. When I release these cuffs, you're going to have uh your corner your pants, okay? >> Yes, ma'am. Jerry and Morgan are fine. Sir, how will you inform me of her whereabouts? >> She's going to call you, contact you from the jail. First, she'll be going to the hospital, then after that she'll be going to the county jail. >> May I speak to her? >> Uh Really quickly, we'll roll down the window. >> Okay. Just understand this car is being recorded, so anything you say to her is being recorded. >> See? I can't believe this. I'M HANDCUFFED WITH A HELP ME. [ __ ] Help me. What the Help me. Help me. Help me. I'm >> You're going to jail. Listen to Listen. We're going They're arresting you for driving drunk. You are going to go to jail. We're going to call an attorney. We're going to post a bail. >> Can I have some water, please? I'm dying. >> That'll be up to the officers. I can't help you at this point on this. >> I should I should charge her with a DUI. >> I saw her. >> Yes, I saw her. I mean, I I felt it. I mean >> you wouldn't, but >> She's a lovely lady. >> Fine. >> I don't know she's going I don't know what she's going through, so >> This is your copy. This is everything about her, and then this is And did you want the other lady's ID number so you can put her into the witness too? I mean, do you need >> I appreciate it. >> the passenger of the other >> No, it's all right. >> All right. >> It's all right. >> So, that's all the information. That's the case number. >> What are we doing at the hospital? Just asking. >> I got to get you checked out. >> Huh? >> I got to get you checked out. Or just >> You have got to be kidding me. I'm a pissed tune in ass specialist with PTSD for 30 years. Oh my god, this is crazy. >> In case you're wondering why she's going to the hospital, not all the time, but the majority of the time when you have someone who's impaired or any sort of like being under the influence, we have to get emptied first. Got to get medical treatment. Once you get that treatment and get cleared, then you can go ahead and move forward with the arrest and booking procedures, okay? >> Okay. >> Just make sure I'm not offending >> myself or anybody. Yes. >> dangerous >> Yeah, I I can't do this with my arms behind me. I can't do that. >> to do it. >> Yeah, you know what? Um, I'm 71 years old. What the >> Okay, so some final thoughts here. Okay, first and foremost, big shout out to Indian River County Sheriff's Office. Look, those deputies professional, they were calm, respectful, right? And they conducted a very thorough investigation. What I like to always say, my motto is no stone goes unturned. They were very polite and more than anything is the biggest lesson of them all is look, if you're 71 years old or whatever age you may be, you got to make better decisions, okay? There is Uber, there's Lyft, there's other sources, right? to help you get home. Going to get drunk, have the best drink you can, but be responsible because once you get behind the wheel and start driving off, you're putting a lot of lives in danger, especially innocent bystanders, okay? Hope you learned something. Okay, so Jerry was charged with DUI with property damage and resisting an officer without violence. She was later sentenced to 12 months of supervised probation, 50 hours of community service, 6-month license suspension, and had to pay $1,938 in fines, court costs, and fees. In addition to all that, she is also required to attend DUI school and a victim impact panel. Okay, so you got to click the like button, the notification bell, you have to subscribe.
