This woman blamed her brakes for the crash, but officers quickly noticed something didn't add up. Brad, please. I'm not cops respond to reports of a two vehicle traffic collision, but the driver's explanation quickly raises some questions. Take a look. I don't know if the I don't know what it was. If it's skitted, it's going to leave marks. So you there weren't paying attention and you just didn't see the stop sign and you ran through it. Oh no. I was paying attention. So I'm going to go over there and check the skate mark. If it's not there you are going to be Were they okay or what's status of them? There are injuries for sure. Yeah. I don't know how bad when I when I crashed um like I was capable of reaching to my to my door and I I basically like fell out of the car and my first instinct was to run and see if she was okay cuz I wanted to make sure like she's conscious and wasn't stuck, you know. So I ran over, you know, to her and she was capable of crawling out and she was talking about her dog and is her her dog is okay, right? Okay. But I ran up and then I came back and you know he was talking conscious and he was like I just I How about your passenger? Well, Mel's watching you. Having a very difficult time balancing cuz I'm shaky. Like I'm I'm not intoxicated. I did not make it to the clinic this morning due to not receiving my driver's call. I go through bail. Okay. And you can look into that if No, I I I'm not arguing you with you on that, but these are obviously my concerns, right? So, are you willing to do some field tests for us up at the hospital? As far as as far as okay to drive a vehicle, right? I mean, yeah. Okay. I don't dropped off with 229. You can show me back out at the crash. I don't know if maybe I slipped and pressed the gas or I don't know what happened, but bottom line, I went through the stop sign and the other car was going this way. You know, I'm going this way and you guys kind of t-boned t-boned hard vehicle flipped and like while the air I've got pretty good reaction time while the airbag was going off. I pulled a belt door and I kind of pushed my way out of the airbag and I fell out of the car and I ran over to the other person's vehicle to see if she was stuck, if she was okay, you know, like kneel down and I was like, "Are you okay? Are you conscious, you know, who's all in the vehicle?" you know, and then I came back to my vehicle and Britney. Britney, who's all in your car? Bradley and Jesse Burns. Okay. And Britney, um, I'm just looking at your arm there. Can you roll your sleeve up for me a little bit? Oh, god. Ouch. Britney, when's the last time you used? Um, actually, it's been quite some time. I've been having um I know I I do have old track marks. Um I have had a couple slip ups since I've been out. My probation officer is aware of it. I've been honest with her every time. And we have, you know, a contract with that and everything where if I have a dirty UA, I do um community service. I'm in the process of doing community service. Doing good though. I have been doing good. What could I ask what your drug of choice was? Um, both. Um, not so much, but more so. When's the last time you um quite some time? I'm not a big fan. It doesn't sit well with me. If I had a a like a breath test, you know, like for alcohol, shows what alcohol you're at. You haven't had anything to drink for alcohol? No, I have not. What would it show for use? It's going to And it picks up. It's pretty If it is, it'd be pretty accurate within the last it 24 hours, 48 hours. It shouldn't It shouldn't show up with anything. Honestly, I Can you look at me real quick? Okay. Your eyes are pinpoint right now. Yeah, I just got into a car accident. That's not what car accidents don't cause that. Causes that. I'm not on any I haven't had any I've had any Oxycottton any sort of downer like that. Narcotics. Did you take Oxycottton today? I had not today. No, I've had nothing today. Okay, go ahead and push that BS button. I'mma call BS on Britney just because uh we can tell, right? I know that I can tell just from experience that she's definitely under the influence of some narcotics, some downer, which is all the questions that the officer is asking. Spot on. Seems to me like he is a DR, a drug recognition expert, which by the way, I'm going to do some more research to let you guys know what it takes to be a DR. So stay tuned for upcoming episodes. I'll have a full body discussion about how you become a DR. But with all that being said, uh you have these objective symptoms which makes him believe, right, reasonable suspicion. He's very suspicious that you might be under the influence, which is the reason why it caused you to TC or T-bone into the other vehicle, right? You're party one, she's party two. Uh it was a horrible accident. It could have been so much worse. So, we're going to find out to see. Uh, I don't think the FST uh is going to be applicable because you're going to need more than that as we continue this investigation. Can I get your arms? These don't look like old. These are brokers looking and scraps. I get rashes. I swear on my life. I'm sober. I've been doing good. Let me ask you this, Britney. And do you have kids? I do have kids. How old are they? My son is 14 now, I believe, and my daughter is eight. Your eight-year-old daughter, you obviously love her. I Yes, I Would you Would you drive the car under your current condition if she was in it right now? I'm not. I'm not tell that's not what I asked you. I ask you drive the car under your current condition if your daughter your 8-year-old daughter's in it. Right now okay I would on a scale of 0 to 10 zero being completely sober, 10 being the highest you ever been. Where would you place yourself on that? I don't know. I haven't been high today. That's H I don't know how concerned you should be. help me out with this one because my thinking is even if you I don't know she says she has sexual intercourse like or kissing right in that sense does that detect according to the officer it's going to pick up but then again I really think she's making all these excuses not to take accountability that you know what she's probably or definitely right either or I'm thinking more definitely that she's under the influence some major narcotic okay are you willing submit a sample into this. It's not really fair because he uses it and it's like, you know, this one just testes for alcohol. Okay. Yeah. Well, yeah. Just keep blow till you hear a click. I used to work at a Parker administration building jail, PAB jail is what we call NAPD for 3 months and the DUI task force. All these motor officers would come in with all these DUI arrest and they will always go to that machine to get them to blow. I got to tell you is I mean you want to talk about the struggle is real to try to get a good read. Okay. For the as far as the drug one goes. What's Can we Can we walk over here? Can you follow me? And I think me way wrong right now. like I'm shooken up and I think that this was kind of an inappropriate time to do a test because I'm not calm. Has she taken the test yet for spread or Yes. And was it clean? I I there was indicators of impairment. Um so that's that's the call I made on that. Um so can you tell if it's alcohol or drugs or It's not. She blew zeros so there's no alcohol on board. Would the drugs be the methadone? Um, she said she didn't take methadone today. I take methadone today, but here's the thing. It has a halflife. It stays in your system, but also when I don't take it today, you start to withdraw at the same time. Britney, we know you got to a major car accident. We get all that. Uh, you know, that officer does have that training experience as that DR right now. What I will say is this is next steps and I don't know if this is what happened in the video or not but the next step should be is to obtain a warrant uh to draw her blood right so think about it uh it's a search right the blood in your person and you have to seize so search and seizure it's part of your fourth amendment it's something that uh that you got to do you know get that warrant draw the blood and that's going to pretty much determine what type of drug uh she is impaired because you're right I I don't think it's the brakes. I'm going call BS on that. I truly believe that, you know, she's using heavy drugs and uh that was a major accident which again is the root of the issue car accident and I'm it's being said that I'm impaired because of it. I've got high blood pressure, high anxiety, and yeah, Britney, a big part of this, too, is I I just interacted with you a couple months ago, and you looked clean and you looked healthy back then. You You're not looking like that right now, but that doesn't mean that I've been out and about using and this and that. I've had a couple oopsies, but when I when I talked to you, I didn't even see those track marks on your arms. I mean, they those aren't those don't look old. Some of these are from getting peacant troughs at my clinic. What is this? Oh, the other way. Where? Flip your arm up. What is that? That That's from the accident, I think. What? What are all these going up following the vein? That That's from them trying to hit at the clinic. like I've had blood tests and other things being done on top of my rashing up which I've seen medical for at my clinic. They came and picked me up and then we they turned around went back towards Barabou. Um hit a side road cuz they went to go fix the seat like her seat cuz it's stuck forward like it doesn't want to like go back at all. And so they tried to like fix it or something but it didn't do anything. So, um, we were driving down the road and, um, she I don't know if there was a stop sign at her intersection or not. Mhm. Um, I would believe that there was. Um, but I, like I said, I seen her like go and like hit the brake, like her whole her whole body like extended to hit that brake. And you literally saw that? Yeah. And it it did not do anything. And she literally did it again and nothing happened. Okay. Are those the are the other people are they okay? Are they alive? Everyone's alive. Everyone's alive. Okay. Okay. That makes me feel better inside. It seemed like Yeah, they hit the We hit that car and then I looked over for a second. It was upside down and I was like, "Oh my god, they're dead." Have you been having problems with it at all? Here and there. Yeah. Like when did the brakes start acting up? Um, well, it's like like do you like have you lost brakes in the past before where they wouldn't work? I mean, yes. That's not like fully I'm not talking about like but like loose y like they're soft. Yeah. Like not like they're just not working like you have nothing there. Right. Right. How long has that been going like that? that you've I guess that's that's been like an on and off thing, you know, since you've owned it or just after you bought it? Um, after I bought it. After. Under her dad's name. Now, before we go on any further with this uh interview that he's asking the uh auto repair guy here, just know that the mechanical failure is not ruled out, right? Which is the reason why this investigator followed that lead. And that's what it's all about when you investigate. You're a detective is no stone goes unturned. Very good on his part to go talk to see if there was a mechanical failure being that the brakes. We're going to talk about the brakes. What was the last time they had a brake service? Uh, did she bring in the car for any brake jobs, all that stuff? So, what are you looking for? She bought it. Sudden heavy insert state here, but he's got the car dealing because what happened? She was in an accident last night. She claims the brakes failed that she's been having a few issues with it. She had it in here for to get the seat fixed on it. Um, the seat was stuck. But did she ever make any comment about brakes? No, the brakes were good. We inspected them and did, you know, preliminary inspection and we always fix whatever. Um, so I doubt it had brake issues and so I'm just going to say this, she's pretty sketchy. She wrecked her other car before she got this one. Her dad came in and was in a really quick hurry to buy. Okay, final thoughts. Uh, first and foremost, big shout out to Barabou Police Department. Officers did a great job at scene and the followup by the detective to rule out the mechanical failure was pretty much spot on. Right. No stone goes unturned, as I always like to say. But look, what stood out the most for me is that question that the officer asked. Would you drive with your 8-year-old in your car under these conditions, uh, because I really truly feel that you're impaired. Uh, Britney, please get some help. Get the treatment necessary for you to get healthier. Okay. Hope you learned something. Okay, so Britney was charged with the following: operating while intoxicated, OWI, great bodily harm, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
