Did they Did they find my DNA? I'm I'm assuming they found my DNA under his fingernails. >> So >> on September 5th, 2017 in Walaw Wala, Washington, Shila A. Osborne was questioned in connection with the death of Daniel E. Kasein, who had died as a result of a shooting at their home. Spoiler details are in the video description and the full results of all charges in the case are laid out at the end of the video. >> You've been advised your your rights a couple times now. >> You called me and asking to talk. Yeah. >> So, >> I'm just going to let you talk. >> Um this is not going to be nothing like last time. Okay. This is your opportunity to talk. You have [snorts] >> Chise here with you. Okay. So, whatever you need, just let us know. >> Okay. Okay. >> If you need a break, take a break. Yep. Um I um I wrote it down just because you know like [snorts] I had a moment where and I took to the grocery store like my wild my ADHD kind [clears throat] of keeps me really you know I'm always going with them. >> Yes. [snorts] And um I sat down on the couch and like I had Caleb go in and like I was just told you know I was and um I don't know how y'all feel about it but I was praying and just like you know I prayed prayed for Daniel I prayed for his soul like I just asked God to like let me know that he was there and [snorts] that everything was going to be okay. And I asked him, "Help me remember." You know, like I'm trying to remember for y'all. And I know like the detective said, "Oh, well, you know, this drunk guy remembered everything." Well, not him. I've blocked things out from being a child my whole life. I blocked things out when stuff like this happens. It's why I'm able to easily forgive. Just block it out and just start all over again. It's going to be okay. Like that's what I do. Um, so I was just trying to like replay. I mean, I've been nothing but honest, you know, and I know I have people that are angry that are turning against me. I don't have a reason to lie to y'all. It's just going to hurt me in the end. It's stupid and I would never do that. But um I sat down like I said I you know and it I was closed my eyes and I I replayed that in my head and I wrote down what I remembered. Um I'm trying to keep everything together drawings and just all kinds of things. Um sorry if I can find it. I wrote it in orange. It's here. It's just where it's at. Um, from the time where we were towards the kitchen area, he charged me back towards the kids playroom. There was the struggle that happened in there. Um, after I was able to recharge the gun, I remember him releasing his left hand and he went towards down like down towards his firearm and that scared the crap out of me. He turned. I don't know if he tripped in that moment. I saw him reaching for his firearm and that's when I started I started firing and I felt the motion of being pulled down [snorts] and like I said like 2 days after that I had the bruise pop up on my on my knee which makes sense that we kind of went down more than I remember. Um but that that's why I wrote it down cuz like it popped up back in my head. Um, and and I just, you know, I'm trying to I'm getting bits bits and pieces of this as it's happening, you know, as um I don't want to remember this, but I know I need you all need me to remember it. So, um, yeah, I I wanted to let you know that that's something that I remembered. >> Okay. Okay. So, so I got this straight. So, he pushed you into the living room area just like you showed us last time, right? >> Um, you brandished the firearm, attempted fire, didn't fired. You guys started struggling over the firearm. At that point, you guys kind of twisted towards the windows. >> Twisted that way. You know, the shift the shift >> shifted, heated up. >> We were up against that like the the table and all the the toys and things that were right there. >> Okay. And he ended up coming next to you. So, you guys are kind of are fighting side by side. He's more, you know, like over here as the best that I can remember. He's more over here and I'm like right, you know, I want to say like facing the windowish if not turned more. But yeah, you know, >> kind of towards the air conditioner, the corner there >> is I'm trying to, like I said, I'm trying to remember. >> That's fine. Either way, >> that that positioning. Um, >> so you guys are you're fighting for it. You're able to >> recharge it. He releases his left hand and goes towards his firearm. That's a new holster. He's He's just now getting used to it. I don't know if he turned his head to look at it or if because he tripped, you know, on I don't know. But I saw him going for his firearm and I knew that that was it. Like it it right before that he had went off on me. He went off like I have tried not to run his name under the mic. I really have tried not to because I love him. You know, there were good times. I tried to capture those good times. I tried to share those with his family and everything. But I talked to his mom about how he was with um I had reached out to a friend about it and um he said that he had talked with his mom about it and that he had also talked with his friend Josh about it. um that he, you know, he was going too far. Um and I was able to get him to take his attention off of, you know, I get every excuse that I could give, you know, to get him away from in and the way that he would go off. >> And so he started kind of focusing it more towards me >> at that that point in time. And like I said, those last two days were different from the way he normally was. >> So, tell me more about the relationship between Daniel. >> It was um it was hard. I think that he saw my ex lot and he would say things like that like you're like would do something wrong. you know, it's at that age where he's messing with his junk and he shouldn't be and stuff like that. Huh. >> I've got a 5-year-old who doesn't all the time. And I tried to explain to him that that's kind of normal, you know, but because I had told him that his biological father had done that at a young age, too. Like this is him becoming him and he's sick like his dad. And he would say stuff like that, especially when he was mad and he would go off on him. He would say things like that. He would um Yeah. I mean, he it was bad. Like it was really bad. And you can go through my phone. I have pictures. I took pictures of what he >> Okay. >> And I sent those pictures to his mom. >> Do you know about when that was? >> I know that before our beach trip [clears throat] was bruised um on his lower bottom area and legs. Um he had went off on him on Father's Day because he lied about brushing his teeth and he threw him up against the wall. when we kicked him and stuff and um >> Did he get >> Yes. when he was on the floor. Um he would take him for me. He would take him back into the [clears throat] laundry room area. And it was like in his mind it was discipline and I it was way too far. And I tried to tell him that. Tried to tell him that his medicine wasn't working, that this is not okay. Like this is going too far. Are you talking ADHD type medicine or >> No, Daniel's bipolar medicine because like I said when he went on it in the beginning it was like I finally got this glimpse of what it could be like and that's kind of what I held on to. You know, I held on to that like it can be this way again if he gets fixed if you know if he gets back on his medicine and stuff. And I talked to his mom because his mom's bipolar so she understands it more than I do. And I asked her, you know, like, "Is this bipolar? Is this something else?" You know, and she said, "I think it's medication, you know, that he needs his medication changed, you know, and um but she was absolutely sick over what he had done, you know, that it was it was affecting her health." [clears throat] And she said that she talked to him about it. Like I said, you know, he he said that he had talked to his buddy Josh about it, but their relationship was really weird. You know, it was it was like I don't know. I don't know how much of the relationship was real and and just they were using each other back and forth kind of, but um he said that he talked to Josh about it because Josh had went through abuse when he was a child and stuff and whatever like that his brother messed with himself too. So, like I don't know, but he had talked to him about it. Um, when we got back from the beach, trying to think, um, he had, I think he caught in the playroom area. um like rubbing up against the floor or something while was in the room and he went off on him and took him back into the laundry room and and put his hands like back to try to cover his butt. Then he like I mean he had welps on his arms from the belt and um I took pictures of them and I showed his mom and I was like you know this is just like too much. like I can't keep doing this. I want my family more than anything. Like I want my family together. I don't want to give up. Like when I left him before, like I paid dearly for that. Dearly for that. And I don't I didn't want to give up. And then it just completely set us back, you know, all over again. But I couldn't keep letting that wasn't discipline. That was beyond discipline. And it made me not only afraid, but afraid for too. And you know, he was like, "Well, I'm going to be that way if you don't like it." You know, whatever. Like, that's how it's going to be with the boys. But he said that that he was abu, you know, his dad was abusive to him and his dad was abusive to him. Like, it's like this generational thing that they have in them that they can't let go of or something. I don't know. And that's why [snorts] the only times that, you know, I always tried to like deescalate things. I tried to calm things down. The only time that I ever really went off was when it was related to >> Okay. So, was there something this day between Daniel and >> it was more towards me? >> Okay. >> But um I think that he was upset that I wasn't responding the way that he wanted me to or something. And um so he was saying stuff to, you know, about him being like his dad and stuff like that. And then he started going off on me. I mean, it was just like, >> why would he go off on if it's you guys arguing about? >> They just turned to him and just started saying stuff to him, too. Like it was like at that point it was me and him and his, you know what I mean? Like that's what he would do when he would be that way >> completely. that day he was saying I'm trying to remember exactly, but he was saying um stuff about like him being you're just like your dad and you know like y'all like y'all are just you know the problem and you know and that's how it was. That's that's that's the way that he was when he got like that. It was you know we weren't a family anymore. We were separated and I always try to tell him like we're on the same team. We're a family. we're together, you know, like it's not like that. Doesn't have to be like that. But that's the way that he like went into that mode of separating the two of us. And you know, that's that's just how it went. >> You said you paid dearly when you left the first time. What did you mean by that? >> Um just things were never the same again, you know, between us. And every time he would get mad, I mean, he would throw everything that I ever did wrong in my face. And I would tell him like, "I know my mistakes, you know, and you have yours." I wouldn't throw them in his face cuz I didn't really want to take any steps backwards, you know? I wanted to try to keep going in the right direction. >> And you're talking 2015 when you got the last order on it. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. when I left, um, he harassed me pretty bad and I wouldn't tell him where I was and he was furious about that. And so he harassed me and harassed me and harassed me and I lied to him and told him that I had lost. That lie lasted two days. I couldn't take it. I told him the truth. I called his father up. And I didn't really know Floyd that well at the time. I called his father up and I told him that I had said that because I just wanted Daniel to stop and I'm sorry. I apologized and he said that he respected me. That that took a lot for me to tell him that and face it, you know. And you know, like from that point on, I felt like he was kind of like my second dad, you know? I mean, like his family was my family, you know? Like I called his mom, you know, I called him dad. like they were my family and that's why I don't I don't understand all of this. Like I I don't I understand that they're grieving. Like I understand all of that and that they're angry and they want somebody to pay, but they didn't live in that house and they didn't suffer the abuse that he put us under emotionally, physically, all of that. They weren't there. They only got the good parts of him, the parts that he wanted them to have. >> So you said that you sent these photos to his mom. Is that through Facebook or text? >> It was through Facebook. And often when me and her talked, she would tell me to delete things. She was like, "If he looks through your phone, I just, you know, I don't want to get into it." You know, whatever. He didn't know that I had showed her pictures. They just discussed it. He said he went, you know, went too far or whatever. >> And I remember you said that last time, but I don't think we ever asked, did did you delete all that? >> I don't know. I have no idea. And I have not been on my social media. I don't want to go on it. You guys have my phone. I don't want to, you know, I don't want to go on it. I want you guys to have my phone and and have access to it without me getting on there. I I don't really, you know, my mom's like, "Don't go on social media. You don't need to do that right now or anything anyways, you know. So, I don't know. I have no idea if it's deleted or not." I'm not sure if the last ones were deleted. Um the maybe the ones before that were um but the last ones I don't know. >> Okay. >> I don't know. And you you had a conversation with Daniel's mom. Was it that the day before or that day? >> Um I think it was the day before through Messenger or something like that. Me and her talked off and on about it, you know, either either on the phone or, you know, like when he was gone or something like that or through messenger. Usually I talk to his dad about, you know, other things and I talk to his mom about how he was just cuz she's his mom and I feel like they're kind of more alike in some ways. I mean, I guess he's like both of them cuz he has like the physical part of his dad and then the bipolar part of his mom. So, I don't know. I um you know, um but it was easier to talk with her about it because he would just, you know, flip out and then that would in turn make Daniel mad. And that's what I didn't want. I could confide in her without him finding out to try to understand him more to try to, you know, like is this medicine? Is this like do I need to leave? like, you know, and when it was starting to get bad, she was like, you know, you can come stay with us. That's what I wanted to do. And that's why I waited. I didn't want to just, you know, I wanted to talk to the landlord first, try to work things out with her. I didn't want to leave without the kids clothes. Like, I've packed up and left before and I didn't want him to go through that again. I'd like to at least grab some of their favorite toys, their things so that they have some kind of like this is like home kind of stuff, their clothes. Um, you know, I mean, everybody's like, "Yeah, you should have done this and you should have done that." But they weren't there and they weren't living in it, so it's easy for them to say that. And [clears throat] I don't know, I was like in a in a in a a panic state of, you know, mind, but at the same time, I was like, you know, is this going to get better? You know, is he going to see that he's, you know, doing this and that he needs help? Like, he stopped going to see his counselor and stuff. You know, he wasn't taking care of himself like he was before where he was regularly going to counseling. he would drive all the way to an auntie to go to counseling and stuff, you know? So, he was taking it more serious back then and then just kind of was just like it's everybody else's problem, not mine. Like he he even had said at one point like um you know, it's hard when the person that you love is you know saying like you need help cuz you're crazy. And I'm like well that's not what I'm saying. I'm not saying that you can't help if you have a chemical imbalance that's in you. you were born with it. You can't help that, but you, you know, you need to take care of it if you want to be like in a family setting with children and all of that. You know, you need to stay on top of that. That's important. And I don't know, it was like a like a denial thing there at the end. It was just like, no, no, it's not me, it's everybody else. >> Okay. [clears throat] So, we spoke a little bit about his mom when you're talking and that brought up a question I had. Um, the water. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Um, the day of we had this discussion last week, she mentioned the frying pan and leaving. >> Yeah. >> So, you had said that what she told me wasn't true before that. >> I never said that to her. I never asked her anything like that. Can you tell me what the conversation was before she said with frying pan and just leave? >> Uh, we were talking about what he was doing. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, I don't know if I deleted those things because of him or whatever. >> So, this by text or was this a voice call? >> This should have been over Messenger. >> Okay. >> As far as I know, it should have been over Messenger. I don't think that we had talked on the phone. It had been a little while that we had talked on the phone. I'm not sure exactly when we talked on the phone. >> Okay. But I mean, I would I would assume that it was I don't know if you guys have a way to retrieve things that are deleted on Messenger or not. >> Sometimes when they're deleted, they're deleted. >> Yeah. Okay. Well, she was aware. I I showed her pictures of it, you know, and she would tell me, you know, like that makes me sick. Like I'm absolutely sick. like I think of a grandson, you know, and >> so did >> she said, you know, like I I don't know when my son became such a monster. >> So, did you send her pictures that day about this about him abusing or I mean, how did that during this? >> Um, I think I think prior to the frying pan thing, I think it was him starting to turn on me. I think that's because the pictures were prior to that. So, I believe that that's what it was was about I think that's what it was about was about that he was starting to get that way with me and um the pictures were prior to that cuz that was it was before >> and we're talking like days or weeks. >> No. Um he had stopped because I know I I had tried like I said I tried everything to get him to stop. I was like, you know, he needs to go to school. He needs to go to the doctors. You got to you got to control yourself. You got to you have to back off. You can't keep doing that. And he was like, yeah, like I I could end up killing him. Like that's how angry it makes me. And um so it had been a little while since he had had done that. Not very long. I mean, I would say try to think when is the last time, like I said, he he uh got him in the kids playroom. Um 4 weeks, maybe something like that. >> Okay. >> Um I know I have a picture on my phone. He had a muscle shirt on and he had the guns, the green guns, and he was flexing like that. And that was the first time in a while that he had wore short sleeve cut off shirts >> because of >> because of what Daniel had done. >> Yeah. So prior to right right around that time right before that was when >> Okay. So, how just so I'm understanding, Shila, how did it come? Um, you know, Daniel's turning on you to his mom saying to you, how did that conversation involve, well, you know, hit him with the frying pan and leave? How to get from Daniel's turning on you to that, you know, mom making such a suggestion? What do you mean exactly? Like I told her what he was doing and that's what her suggestion to me was. >> What did you What did you say he was doing? >> That he um was starting to get mean and that he was turning on me and like shoving me and stuff. I'm I'm pretty sure I told her that he was starting to like shove me and >> all of that. Yeah. >> Okay. I [clears throat] was just trying to understand why she would make that suggestion. >> Right. Yeah. >> So after she made that suggestion, did you ask if if that would be okay with you? I I'm just where she where they're getting the statement from. >> They're angry. >> And they're wanting somebody to pay is what I get. I just wanted to make sure. >> And they're not thinking about the kids. They're not thinking about ripping a family apart. They're not They're just angry, >> you know? And they think that they're doing him some kind of favor by doing this. Like, >> I don't understand it because they were my family, too. But I'm not in their position. So, I can't, you know, I can't say what I would do in that position. But, um, >> so after she said that, you didn't ask if they would be okay. >> Absolutely not. No, all I said all I said was, "Yeah, right. You never forgive me, you know, with the frying pan thing, >> right? About the frying pan." >> Yeah, exactly. >> Okay. I'm just trying to see if maybe they got confused. >> That's what I'm trying to figure out. That's all. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Who helped you with your order for protection? >> Your first one. >> You only had one, right? >> Yeah. Um his ex-wife had several when we were together orders of protection against him that she would take out, you know, every so often. Um cuz he would get kind of harassing towards her. Um [clears throat] and I know that her father is a is a sheriff and stuff. Um, and you know, they they had it they had it in the past, too, from what he said that she had stayed at a shelter with their daughter and stuff cuz he wouldn't let them leave the apartment. Um, these are things I found out later on, you know, being together after a while. But, um, I took mine out. Nobody helped me with it, I don't think. I think I just went to the place and and filled it out to the order of protection clinic. >> The at the courthouse. the courthouse. Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. There was like the the glass building that you walk up the >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Did you ever meet with any legal people from like Blue Mountain Action Council or >> um >> Catherine? >> I think that I talked like with advocates cuz they had the advocates would come and go over it or something >> from the Y. you know, I stayed at the why, but that was my first time being in a situation like that. And I didn't really let myself like have people help me help me, you know, and like learn about all of this and what I should do and all of that. It was just kind of like survival mode, >> you know. How long were you there? Um, >> it was that >> I was at the point where I was kind of starting to pay rent to them. Okay. >> So, I had stayed past my 60 days. Okay. >> But then I was able to find a place. >> Was that after you did your order? >> I did my order while I was there. >> Okay. >> Yeah. While I was there. Um, cuz I didn't want him to know where I was at the time. He was threatening me and then he was using his dad to threaten me too at the time. like, you know, my dad's got buddies. They can find out where you are no matter what. Like, you know, I'm going to find you. >> It was actually a question I had is you said he was harassing you at that time. Like, how what was he doing >> in every every possible way that he could, you know, voicemails, calling, texts, everything. You know, my dad's got buddies that can find you. And his dad's like, "Yeah, I do." Like, you know, you can't hide. like and you know I just want a break like to you know what stop from this to figure all this out like I'm pregnant you know I want to make sure okay like you know and and figure all this out and then after you know I had told Floyd I apologized to him and I told Daniel it's like we kind of you know maintained some kind of contact at that point and I dropped the order. He left. He was in um treatment. He went into treatment at the VA or whatever because um he was starting to do heroin after I left. And um he was doing it with some buddies, I guess, and people there at that apartment complex. And um so he went and got into treatment for that. And I think that's around the time that they put him on lithium. And uh things kind of you know started to get better with him and he kind of calmed down and you know we had our separate places and you know I took care of the kids and he did whatever but he would come and you know for a few days and stuff and leave and you know it was a repetitive thing like that but I got to see Ava. the kids got to see Eva, you know, and we just kind of did it like that for a while and then I went and got I went from that apartment to um King's Gate and um I was there for a while. you know, he would come like just the same pretty much. And then we moved in together after um us and uh you know um you know there was a lot of ups and downs in that point in time but the physical stuff didn't really start until after like it just went like and then you know it was like em like emotional kind of but not the physical just started kind of going like that At that point it was, you know, like starting to really scare me. >> Mhm. >> And you know, he is who he is. Guns, you know, intimidating. He's very intimidating person. He can be. He can be charming and then he can be very intimidating. There's a reason I loved him. He's got that could switch on that side and then there's that rage that just comes out of him that's just like this darkness, you know, and I don't know if that's something that he got from being over there or what. I don't know if that's something that he's always had just deep inside of him. I really don't know. But um you just never knew when that was going to come out, you know. And like I said, like I try to let him sleep in. Like I I always tried to like you know, so like you had mentioned somebody had said that I said something like that. Doesn't even make sense that I would say something like that when I was the one trying to calm things down and keep things peaceful. >> You told that to his mom? >> No. >> Or to a friend? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Makes That's That's ridiculous that you threaten to kill him. I would never say something like that. That's stupid. >> Okay. >> I mean, that would be like ensuring that things would be bad. I would never say that escalate. Absolutely. And that's stupid. That I would never say something like that ever. Not even in being angry. Not even in him doing those things. I always try to calm things down. That That's ridiculous. That's absolutely ridiculous. So, you know, like I've I've been so like overwhelmed with everything because it's like I feel like I have everything coming down against me. But I'm telling the truth, not lying. I'll be honest about my faults. I'll be honest about everything. But I don't have a reason. You have a reason to lie. No, I don't because it would just hurt things. I had made up my mind a long time ago when that happened that I would not lie anymore. That lying was just it just made everything worse and the truth always comes out, you know, and I'm not a good liar. I'm not I'm a really bad liar. My dad always said that about me. He said, "I can see it on your face when you're lying." That's how my dad was, you know. He was a good man. He was a good dad. And sometimes like I saw my dad and Daniel you know, like his hair and when he grow his beard a little bit and he wore his glasses, like I kind of like would see my dad in him. And when he was good, I kind of got that feeling, you know, and it was like having my dad around in a way, not in a weird way or anything like that, but just like that that same, you know, kind of feeling, I guess. And I want have that, too. But Daniel couldn't sort out the two different people inside of him. He was two different people. >> What did you mean? The thing that happened maybe >> you're talking about the abortion, correct? >> I didn't say yeah. Yeah. I would never do that. I would never get an abortion. >> Last time we spoke, you mentioned that Daniel was out of work. How long has he been out? >> He's not worked the whole time I've known him. I thought he was working when I saw him like six months ago. >> No. No. Okay. >> Dan always said things. He said >> I remember he talking about looking for security or >> um he had applied at St. Mary's. He did do that. >> Okay. >> He did apply at St. Mary's. Um but no. >> So he's been like stay at home. >> Yeah. But not really capable of actually like having the kids by himself very much. He didn't have the patience for that, you know. He always want to go out and smoke or go, you know, smoke smoke or whatever to calm himself down. But um yeah, I um and like I I was watching a child there for a period of time. I watched in my old apartment and when we moved in, I was still watching him for a while and he started kind of getting, you know, like kind of intimidating to that child. I stopped watching him at that point. I was like, I'm not going to put, you know, I have that are in this, you know, I can't do that. And so, like, I wasn't even able to like, you know, off and on I would watch PE, you know, people's kids, but it was usually like if I knew Daniel wasn't going to be there or something like that, you know, to where it wasn't adding stress to him. um when I met met him in um Richland um in the very beginning like before we really started talking I guess he was working security then he stopped working got fired I don't know I'm not sure exactly what happened um and he hasn't since we've been together he's worked ever >> and you've been together since >> off and on since 2015 15. The very beginning of 2015. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> I mean, it, you know, it could have been like the last hair of 2014, but basically right then. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. I um I love Daniel. Like I always love Daniel. like, you know, I look at my to see him, you know, and this is not what I wanted for my family at all. I wanted my family to be together. I wanted him to fix himself. And when he started scaring us really bad and he wasn't going to get fixed, he wasn't going to take care of it, you know, I I was going to wait till Wednesday because Wednesday would have been better to leave because he would have went and left around like noonish because he would have went to go pick up Ava from school. And so that would have given me from noon until like 8:00 to pack and find, you know. Now, is Ava the one in Athell or Triello? >> Okay. >> Does he have kids in Tri Cities? >> No. >> He was going to pick up Ava and just >> take her out that because because she started school, he didn't have the the larger amount of time where he could bring her back and then take her back where we could all be together. when she starts school, um he only has like when he picks her up at 2:45 until he has to drop her off exactly at 6:30 and so he has that period of time with her. So they would go like to the park or whatever. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. Talked about Ava and stuff a lot and this is really hard not having her around because, you know, like I love her like a daughter, you know. I mean, how So, she was there for a visit that weekend? Is that right? Um, the weekend before this happened, was she or was it the weekend before that? Maybe she was there. Okay. Yeah, because um we uh let her sleep in her bedroom and sleep in the living room because of how things were, you know, just with him doing that or whatever. He um he was really afraid that she would say something to her mom and that that could affect his visitations with her. and he, you know, like if you mess this up and I don't get to see my daughter, it's going to be really bad for you. So, I switched, you know, when she was there. That's your room and you can sleep in >> usually sleep with you guys in the master there. >> No, I didn't sleep in the master. Slept on the couch and sleep on the small couch. Sleep in his room. >> Okay. And Daniel slept in the master by himself usually. >> Okay. >> Sometimes he his room >> became >> okay. >> I gave him his space. >> So you or he's in the master, you're on the couch and then sleeps in that bedroom. >> Mhm. In his bed. >> There's two beds in there. >> Yeah. When Ava is there, that Ava has her bed, too. >> Okay. >> So in that room. And where are the two little ones? Are they out in the >> Would sleep on [clears throat] my chest. >> Okay. and sleep on the smaller love seat closer to the TV. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. That kind of became our routine. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And that way I had both of them out there. They wouldn't wake him up when they woke up throughout the night. Diapers and bottles and stuff. >> I was going to ask you cuz there was a crib in the master. >> Yeah. We never used it. He ended up using it to put clothes and things in. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. Never slept in it either. slept with me when I lived in my old apartment. You know, he would sleep in my bed with me. I always close as I could. And um you know, that's why something like this is terrifying cuz you know, I understand that, you know, I should have left and all that stuff. I wanted my family to be together. But the thought of not not being is terrifying. It's terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. >> Did you have a plan to leave Wednesday? What was your plan? >> I was that I was pl I'm planning on developing that on Tuesday, seeing how things went. you know, if he didn't calm down, you know, then I was going to make plans to either go stay at somebody's house for a couple of days until I could find, you know, the funds to get out there or whatever. You know, I didn't have any kind of backup money or anything like that. But, you know, it was like, well, maybe I could go stay at this friend's house for a couple days or this or whatever and talk to my mom, try to figure something out or them, you know, or whatever. Um, and it didn't it didn't make it till Wednesday, so I wasn't able to figure that out more. Okay. I would like to have somebody chat that's not from our agency. Are you okay with that? >> Yeah. >> Um, when works best. I know the the people the person I'd like to have do it so that they're available today >> or tomorrow, but not between 10 and 11 tomorrow. >> Okay. Annette has a thing at 5. Um, what time is it now? >> 2:30. 2:30. She could possibly bring him by. >> Okay. >> So, today >> possibly. Yeah, I can I can call her and ask her. >> Okay. Well, let me go make a call real quick. See if that works for them and then I'll come right back. >> Okay. [snorts] >> Do you have any questions? Um, did they did they find my DNA? I'm I'm assuming they found my DNA under his fingernails. >> So, we don't get lab results that quickly. It takes a lot longer. >> Oh, yeah. I know that uh like on the TV shows it's almost instantaneous, but >> I really and you know after all this happened like I really pictured things but I thought like they they're going to be able to see my feet go backwards and like him push me into the room and they're going to like fingerprints and I guess it doesn't work like that. So it's like oh no it's your word against you know all these people that hate you right now because of what happened. So, you know, >> how do you feel now? I mean, >> I'm ter like I'm terrified, but like I'm at the same time, like my mom said, you know, you got to trust God and like you're telling the truth and you just got to trust that that's going to be enough, you know? And like I'm I'm really trying to, but all I can think about is and I don't ever want to be away from them cuz that really like >> well I really really really don't want that ever >> and I don't ripped apart like I was in the system as a kid like my my birth mom abandoned me and like left me at a dude's house and they kept me in the garage for like 6 months and there was the drug raid and they took me into foster care and she signed over rights and stuff. I was in foster care for a while and then I got adopted into the family that I grew up in and they were foster parents. Like I've seen what CPS does. Like I guess that's part of the reason why I was really scared to reach out for help because they scare the crap out of me. They really do. Like I don't think that they always have the best interest of the children at heart. Like all of that just really scares me. >> Where was all of that? Where did that all take place? >> In Reading, >> uh, >> California. >> California. >> Yeah. We moved to Tennessee after I um my biological mom and dad were married, had three kids. I was product of of him raping her. And that's what I grew up with. And um, she took me cuz I was still an infant, left them with him. They got taken state's custody, adopted into a home together in Richland. and um she took me went down to California and left me and then did whatever she did. But um um I when I when I came out here, I stayed with my biological brother when I left Tennessee on a Greyhound. Um that was the first time I [clears throat] really lived with my brother. And you know, I guess he's kind of a lot like um my biological father. I didn't really know that, you know, thought he was like my big brother and protector, you know, and all that, but I don't know. >> Yeah. >> I walked in the middle. So, they have something today from 3. They said they'd be back around 3:30 to 4:00. >> Okay. >> Do you think that's >> We could probably make that work. Yeah. >> Okay. And they promised me they could probably be done before 5. >> Okay. Is this going to be like super difficult for him or is he going to be okay? Like he has a lot to say, but >> it's not going to be like us doing an interview. This is a special child interview. >> Okay. So, it's going to be like more like play and like happy and upbeat. >> We have a nice room in the kids with them. It'll be in there. >> Okay. Okay. All right. Color crayons, all that stuff. Okay. Um you know, and she has the training to ask questions in a specific way. >> She knows. >> Okay. >> So, >> yeah. >> So, I will let them know that that's good and that'll work. And then >> they're doing like a whole wrap around like with the school, with the therapists, with, you know, everybody. They're like creating a team to wrap around for him. >> Chatting with Wanda. So, it sound >> I never even knew that that existed before. Like, I never knew all these things. and wall while over here, you know, like resources. >> Kind of blowing my mind a little bit, you know, but I'm really thankful for it. >> Got to ask >> because no matter what, like I want him to be okay. And you know, I mean, they're going to, you know, they're going to get older and they're going to need help and I, you know, I think about about Ava, too. Like, I really hope that her mom like takes them up on therapy and stuff for her, too, cuz she's going to need it. But I, you know, >> are you going to stay in the wall area? >> I want to. Yeah. >> Um, write this down here. When you get your cell phone, there's an app called Owl. >> O WWL. >> Owl. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, this application for your phone and it's got like every single resource and um contact numbers for the Walaw Wala. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Pretty cool. >> Do you have a pediatrician? >> Um, Bergstrom. Okay. >> But he has an appointment. I got to call them. It's been hard not having contacts and stuff and trying to get all this organized and you [snorts] know um he has an appointment I think tomorrow. I need to call and find out what time. Um he's going to get some shots and stuff and um I'm going to talk to them about like the ADHD and stuff. um his principal and Maggie, the intervention specialist at Green Park, um had said, you know, maybe wait on the ADHD. I think it was her that said that. Um or no, it wasn't her. It was the therapist that said that that maybe like all of this is triggering behaviors like ADHD, but he's always been that way and his biological father was that way, too. And I just [clears throat] want him to be able to like calm down for school, >> you know? So, I'm going to talk to them about about that, too. >> [snorts] >> Um, Walaw Wala. It has Wala Wala like >> resources. >> Resources. Okay. Okay. >> All the all the different agencies and who does what. >> Yeah. It's pretty. >> I feel like we I feel like he >> a little owl. >> Okay. >> I feel like here is the best thing for him. >> Shelters, food, medical. >> Wow. I wonder if Annette knows about that. >> It's pretty new. Like a few weeks old. >> That's super awesome. >> So, um, jobs, transportation, utilities. If you need help with any of this stuff, it's got some like um I'll just hit shelter here. It's like immediate shelter, rent help. >> Wow. >> You can come in here and you can see stuff. Um >> that's awesome. >> So, I mean, >> yeah, >> it's a resource for you. >> Yeah, that's awesome. That's I didn't I that's that's cool. We put that together. That's really awesome. She'll think that's really cool, too, cuz she can tell people about that. Um, so one of the things in talking with you, I I think everyone would agree your absolute most important thing is the best interest. So that's very obvious to me that you love they're my everything. You want to protect them. >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Like I wanted to hold my family together and I I feel like I went wrong with but I just really didn't want to. >> What do you mean by that? >> Like you know I I couldn't really stand up to Daniel very well. Like I tried and he would always get mad at me when he would be that way. >> Did you feel like there was a triangle between the three of you? >> What do you mean that? >> Daniel and you and you were between Danny all that time. I felt like I had to push away to please Daniel, like to keep him from being angry. Like I would if I would love on him too much or whatever, you're babying him and you're this and you're that. And like all I've done the past few days is like hold on to him. Like that's all I've wanted to be able to do is just, you know, like you shouldn't feel like you can't do that. >> Do you feel guilty about that? >> Yeah. Yeah. That's quite a [snorts] a rock and a hard place to be caught in the middle of cuz it was never like a over here. Like that's not fair to him. >> [snorts] >> wanted was for Daniel to say he was good enough, you know? [snorts] He would always try to be tough for him and like carry toy guns and like I'm tough like you. Like I'm going to get tattoos like you. I'm going to be like you. I'm going to be a soldier like you. He just wanted to [snorts] for Daniel to say like, "You're okay the way you are. You know, you're just a kid." Like, it wasn't fair. [snorts] It really wasn't fair. And that's [snorts] why like I want him to have everything now. Like no matter what happens, I just want him to like have everything he should have had then. >> [snorts] >> I didn't really want to, you know, like I I didn't think I had to bring all that stuff up. I didn't really want to have to do that, you know, like I [snorts] love Daniel, you know, like I mean obviously there were good times every time like he would like I would take a picture of it like he's hold or [snorts] you know he's doing something with the kids like I tried to like you know like capture those moments and I made it look a certain way on Facebook like everything's perfect and fine and everybody's like oh they're happy and you know everything's okay but anybody can do that anybody can make things look like they're okay. That's what you want to do when things aren't okay. [snorts] I love I love more than anything. They're like everything to me. Everything. They're my reason. My reason to get up in the morning. my reason to push past all of this and try to keep going and not shut down. I'm thankful that I have Annette to keep pushing me. Like, if I didn't have her, I don't know what I'd do. Like, there's a reason I met her. There's a reason all this stuff happened. I don't know if y'all believe in God or not. But, I mean, it's just pretty obvious. Like, [snorts] I'm sitting there listening to Caleb. Like, every song that comes on is talking to me. Like, that's just how it goes. And I'm like losing it throughout the day crying. She I walk in and I'm crying and she's like, "Are you okay?" I'm like, "Yeah." I'm just, you know, I'm trying to trust and believe everything's going to be okay. I just want everything to be okay. I just That's where I want more than anything else be. I want to be with forever. Like [snorts] I'll wear a leg brace on my leg and stay in one place for the rest of my life to be with I don't care. I'll check in with you guys like every day. Like whatever you want me to do, I'll do. I just want to be with >> saying that kind of stuff. Okay. >> This is just investigation. >> Like I know you all have a job to do, but like the other day it was just like I'm telling the truth. Like I'm trying to remember what happened. And it happened so fast. I [snorts] didn't look that stuff up because like I wanted that to happen. I was just scared. Like if if worst case scenario, like that's what he always drilled in my head. Like you do this, you do that. You you know, I mean that was drilled into my head. That's that's what I knew. >> What was [snorts] drilled into your head? Protection, you know, just if you're scared, you keep your gun closer. You know, you make sure it's loaded. Like that's that's what you do. That's what he drilled into my head. I honestly thought he had one in the chamber because he always said in that holster he would keep one in the chamber. So when he starts reaching for it, he's ready to go in my mind because he I got him it was late. It didn't come on time, but we had gotten that for him for Father's Day. And I let [snorts] him go camping for two days, you know, like I wanted him to have, you know, even if he didn't give it to me, I give it to him. And I don't know. I really honestly really thought that. I really thought that he was he was ready to, you know, that's way he always acted. That's what he always drilled into my head. Sorry about that. Like I can get enough water right now. [snorts] Well, and I think you know with some of the dynamics between Daniel put a lot of fear in me. >> Yeah. Be that so hard for you. So, you know, that put fear in you, you say? I mean, was that part of [snorts] what was going on between you and Daniel? I'm just trying to, you know, put all those pieces together >> that day when he was going off and he was saying things to both of me. I have the double fear going on, you know, and when he come at me and said that he was going to kill me, like I had no reason not to believe that he was going to kill me, you know, and I like like I felt like you all were like, well, you know, he should have I should have let him like choke the life out of me first or beat me first or you know, like to the point where I wasn't defense, you know, I was defenseless and not able to defend myself and stop him, you know, and in my mind. [snorts] He's been after, you know, he's starting to go after me. He comes at me. He says he's going to kill me. He charges me into a room. And that's exactly what I believed. I I believe I've never been so afraid in my entire life. Never ever been that afraid ever. And then I'm afraid too. Like he's going to do that to me and then he's going to try like the kids. Like all I could think about was like and I have to stay alive for them. I have to. He kills me. He turns the gun on himself. Whatever he does if he, you know, if he doesn't, he goes to jail. I'm not there anymore gets split. You know, I mean, that's that in that moment, that's all I could think about was I have to stay alive. I have to. And you know, I don't know if that gave me some kind of adrenaline. I have no idea. But I just wanted to be alive and I didn't want to die and I didn't want anything to happen. And like things [snorts] have been like I'm learning about trauma and I'm learning about like it puts up mental blocks in your head and all these kinds of things. And like [sighs] for like the per the the the last the the first couple days after that. Sorry. No, you're fine. That call was from the station. So there must be something something talk about some [snorts] things, you know, things like slam the bathroom door and like that would like scare me and like she was cooking bacon in the kitchen and it got smoky and like that's all I could think about was like smoke like when that happened and things just kept like re like setting me back in my head or whatever. I don't know. And I guess that's why like remembering things was really hard cuz it just like kept blocking me every time something like that would happen. I'm on edge about those things. Like you know like just seeing a cop car scares the crap out of me. Being here scares the crap out of me. I mean it just does. It just it's just it's terrifying. I mean I feel better. Like I know that y'all have dealt with, you know, people that have been through things like this before and all that. You know, I don't I don't I don't know you. I know that that's their their title and that's why, you know, I was told that that that's what's best is to be, you know, I'm just I'm just trying to do what what's best. And I'm trying to I'm trying to get all this stuff going and and I need to sign papers for for the the therapy for the kids and stuff with Wanda. >> Okay. >> Shila A. Osborne was originally charged with first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of Daniel E. Kasein in Walaw Wala, Washington. On June 10th, 2021, she pleaded guilty in Walaw Wala County Superior Court to an amended charge of seconddegree murder. On December 29th, 2021, Judge Brandon L. Johnson sentenced her to 150 months, 12 1/2 years, in prison with credit for 1,178 days already served, leaving a little more than 9 years remaining at that time. Washington law also typically requires a period of community custody after release on a seconddegree murder sentence. As of the most recent verified public reporting, there is no confirmed record of her release, and the remaining term of the 2021 sentence indicates she remains incarcerated.
