So again, what I want to do is I just want to take some photos, show what you look like cuz you got some blood on your shirt. >> Okay. >> And I want to take some swabs from >> Well, I do know ghosts in the dead cannot see blood. >> Okay. Okay. >> How you know that? >> All right. So >> But that's what I'm saying. If I die again for a fourth time, I am done. >> Fully understood. >> And that means everyone. >> On December 7th, 2024, in Leoni Township, Michigan, 40-year-old Roger Albert Schweda fatally shot his 70-year-old mother, Sherry Schweda, inside their Welch Lake Road home. He then left a voicemail for neighbor Thomas Farnsworth, 57, stating his mother was dead. Concerned Farnsworth called 911 for a welfare check and was shot in the driveway while speaking with dispatchers. Officers found both victims deceased at the scene. Roger fled in his mother's vehicle, but was arrested shortly after. The full case summary is in the video description, followed by criminal conviction and sentencing details at the end of the video. >> You doing okay, Roger? >> Mhm. >> Yeah. These are my friends I was telling you about, okay? They're probably going to have some questions, probably kind of the same questions that we've kind of talked about already. All right? They're They're really good guys. >> Dude, some things I can talk about and some I cannot. >> I fully fully understand. We're going to >> I am going to use my right to remain silent. >> I got you. Well, we're going to >> I'm not I'm not trying to be a dick or nothing. >> I get it. I get it. And uh you have every right to do that and we'll cross that bridge kind of as we get to it, okay? All right. So, I'm Jeremiah. This is my friend Sam. >> I'm Sam. >> All right. We work here and we're just here to try to help you out. I know there's some stuff that I've kind of heard, but I kind of want to clear some of it up. >> Well, the the plan we had I apart. >> Okay. Before we get started. >> All right. >> Okay. Uh I know your first name is Roger. What's your full name? >> Roger Sweda. >> What's your middle name? >> Albert. >> Albert, and your date of birth? >> 8/17/1984. >> Okay. So, like I said, I'm I'm Jeremiah. I'm Detective Wheeler here. I'm just going to read these through to you real quick before we get started. All right? And I understand you've already been read them. I'm not trying to confuse you or anything like that. It's just protocol. >> I already know what you think. >> All right. I I get that, but this is just kind of what we have to do. All right? So, before you answer any questions or make any statement, you must fully understand your rights. You have a right to remain silent. >> Mhm. >> Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to consult with a lawyer before you answer any questions or make any statement and have a lawyer present during questioning or while making a statement. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before questioning or at any time during questioning if you so desire. You can choose [clears throat] to exercise these rights at any time you wish. You may stop answering questions at any time you wish. >> Okay. >> Do you understand these rights? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you have any questions about any of these that I just read to you? >> No. >> All right. So, if you understand these rights and you want to talk to me or give a statement here today, all I need is a signature right here that acknowledges that I read you these. Right there on the line that says signed. I'm just checking the time. It's 12:30. >> I'll let you know right now my organs are junk. >> Okay. Okay. >> I've been drinking for years and my Mhm. My organs are not worth nothing. >> All right. All right. I'm going to take this um The time is 7:00 and like I said it was like 3:30. >> Yeah, I can't die. If I If I die it's going to be really really bad. >> Okay. >> I swear to god. It's going to be really bad if because the time's already out. >> Okay. So you you said you wanted to talk to us about some stuff. >> Yes. >> Okay. So what is it you wanted to talk about? >> Everything is yin and yang. Okay. The white and black. >> All right. >> We have everything going on really good right now. My I did shoot Tom but he was coming at me with a knife. >> Okay. >> Because last night I found out I'm not her son. I'm the eighth son. I did shoot her and then Tom came at me with a knife because I found out from my older brothers that they saw Tom kill my dad which is a war hero. >> Okay. And when you said her who are we talking about? >> My mom. >> Your mom. Okay. >> Because my mom and Tom had an affair on my dad when he was in the war. >> Okay. Which war? >> Uh Vietnam I think. He used to jump out of He was a paratrooper. >> Ah. >> Big guy. >> Gosh, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Now you said uh Tom came at you with a knife. >> Yeah. I bought a knife about 2 years ago. I I Which was a from Amazon. >> Okay. >> It was a Chinese or Japanese, you know, uh cut it all up flame knife or not flame knife, but a It was like a a skinner and to take the meat off the bone and >> Okay. >> And it was a like a uh meat cleaver. >> Okay. Okay, I think I I know what you're talking about. So, so you bought the knife. >> I bought the knife. >> Okay. >> And then Tom was going to kill me with my own knife. >> Got you. >> So, I shot him. >> All right. I mean, it sounds it sounds pretty straightforward. Um so, let me ask you a few questions about that. Where did he come at you with the knife? Where like where did this all happen? >> We I was coming out of the driveway and I was scared of Tom because what just happened with my mom. And I had my dad's shotgun with me. And when I seen him with the knife, I shot him in the driveway. >> Okay. Okay. >> And then I didn't know my mom and Tom had a thing together. I didn't know nothing about that. >> Got you. So, Tom had the knife in the driveway. Did Was he inside at some point to get the knife? >> He must have been there. Probably months ago because months a few months ago, I think 6 months ago, the knife came up missing. >> Okay. So, the knife knife's been missing. That That answers that question there cuz I was kind of confused how he got it. Um >> Yeah, it just disappeared one day. I don't know how it disappeared. >> All right. So, with that, you shot him in the driveway. >> Yeah. >> What did you do next? >> I grabbed the phone my mom bought me, which he had it, which I don't know why Tom would have it. And I took it with me. >> Okay. >> But I use Android phones and my mom uses something else. >> Okay. >> So the Android phone needs to be We need another Android phone. >> Okay. Okay. Um and you said you took it with you. >> It could have been in the car. >> Okay. So right afterward or I don't want to confuse things. I don't want to guess. >> think it was net something or um It was some goofy phone, but it needs to be a Android a Android phone. >> Yes. Um but you said right afterward you took it with you. So did you leave immediately after shooting Tom? >> Yes. >> Okay. Did you go back in the house? >> No. >> Okay. Um and you said that when you shot Tom you were scared of him because of what just happened with your mom. >> Yes. >> What had just happened with your mom? >> She She was uh I don't know. She's been losing her mind lately. >> Uh-huh. >> Going crazy. She's losing her mind. Like Alzheimer's. It was really bad. She She She couldn't make it out of the bedroom to potty. >> Uh-huh. >> She She was losing control of herself and she was very She was pretty much dying. She was pretty much dead. >> Okay. So what happened? >> Well, that's when I found out that she wasn't my mom. >> Uh-huh. >> And then I shot her. >> Okay. That must have been pretty upsetting. >> I was really pissed because I've been calling her mom and she's not even my mom. I've been with her 43 year for 45 years. >> Yeah. >> Well, it's not even my mom. Where is my mom? >> When did you find this out? >> My three brothers told me that. >> What? >> Uh, a couple days ago. About 7 days ago. >> 7 days ago? Okay. Um, and your brothers told you. Which brothers? >> Rick, Robin, and Ryan. This is what my parents say. He just can't go there. Goes and I don't just have >> All right. >> There's not eight brothers. There's sisters, too. And I I would like to keep that confidential. >> Okay. Okay. That's That's fair enough. >> I'd rather not give names out. >> All right. >> Cuz if names gets out, then then something bad could happen to them. And then it's going to be the end. >> Okay. >> So, nothing can not happen to them. They need protective. >> I I respect that. I won't I won't ask who they are. Um, can you tell me a little bit more about your dad and Tom? >> Um, I guess when he was in my dad was in the army. >> Mhm. >> He slept with a woman over there. And then came back. And that used to be Tom's wife. >> Okay. >> So, it's about two families fighting. >> Ah. >> This is one big one big fight over two families. >> Mhm. Okay. Now, you said you found out something about Tom and your dad. >> Yeah, um, my my three three older brothers told me that. Tom killed dad. >> Okay. When did When did your dad die? >> Oh god, 6 months ago. >> 6 months ago? Okay. Was it at that address or somewhere else? >> It was at the hospital. >> Which hospital? >> Uh I believe it was Foote. >> Foote? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um Correct me if I'm wrong, is that the one over towards Ann Arbor or Chelsea? Or is that a different hospital? >> Um downtown Jackson. >> Okay. Um so you shot your mom today. >> Yeah. >> How did Tom find out about that? >> He uh came up to came up to me for a minute and he said, "I'm not going to stay today." And I didn't say nothing to him. And then he left. And then he came back mad. I seen him because I was leaving, you know, I I just had a friend through and how he was reacting because he was making a lot of facial and uh he uh went home, came back and when I was driving home he came at me with the knife. >> Okay. >> So I figured out he probably was talking to my mom on the phone. >> Okay. >> That's why he had my phone. >> Got you. >> I get it now. >> Yeah. It makes a little more sense. So did she have the phone when you shot her or was it before that? >> No, because she bought herself a new phone because uh we got hacked. >> Okay. >> And we couldn't use our phones anymore. So we went to Meijer's to buy new ones. And Wow, everything is just a coincidence. >> Yeah, that sounds awfully coincidental. Sounds like you've been through a rough time today. >> Yeah, it's it's Dude, I feel like my life is chaos. >> Yeah. So, I just want to clarify cuz you did this motion um with about the knife. Was the blade this way or this way or something else? >> I don't recall. >> Okay. Okay. Um But you didn't >> Oh, it was towards the sky. >> So, it was up. The knife was up and he had his hand up. Is that what you mean? Like the blade would be up in this area with his hand like this. Okay. Um Now, you said he took off right after you shot Tom. And did you touch the knife? Is it still out there? >> It should be in there unless somebody else went and got it. >> Okay. Okay. Um Now, with what happened with your mom, was that right before or a while ago? >> That would be just before. >> Just before? >> Yeah. >> If you had to think about it in terms of time, about how much time passed between shooting your mom and Tom coming at you with the knife. >> Maybe 7 minutes. >> Okay. Um and what kind of a gun is this? >> It's a shotgun. >> Shotgun? Okay. >> Mossberg. It uh I don't know. It was in the car. >> All right. >> to look at it. >> Do you know anything about guns? >> I know a lot about guns. >> Okay. >> Uh well, I I love guns, but I I guess I don't have the money for guns. >> So, can you describe this gun to me? Um, like what color is it? How do you operate it? >> Uh He was pointing it at me. >> Okay. >> With the barrel lowered down. >> Mhm. So, if I have and I haven't seen this gun yet, that's why I'm asking. Um how would you load it? >> I keep a couple couple shells in the gun. >> Okay. Um and how would you [ __ ] it to put a round in the chamber? >> Well, that'd be full. I would have a bullet in the chamber. >> Okay. So, but presumably with a shotgun, you you shot your mom you have to put another round in, right? Is this like a break action where you have to load it? >> it's automatic. >> It's an automatic? >> Automatic. >> Okay. >> Oh, it's three shells. Or or five. It can hold five shells. >> Okay. [snorts] >> One in the chamber and four in the >> Got you. And would this be like a semi-automatic or like a pump action where you can >> Full auto. >> A full auto? >> You can pick as fast as you can pull the trigger. >> Okay. >> As fast as you can shoot. >> I got you. And you think it might be a Mossberg? >> Yes. >> What color is it? >> It's wood. >> Wood? All right. Um, and you said it was in the car? >> It's in the car. >> Okay. Um do you know if there are any more shells with it? >> In my bedroom. >> Well, are there any more in the gun? Do you know that? >> No, there's none. >> Okay. Um and you said you keep a couple of shells in it and one in the chamber. >> Usually I keep it fully loaded. >> Okay. And how many times did you shoot Tom? >> I think I pulled the trigger twice. >> Okay. How about with Mom? >> Once. >> Once. >> [snorts] >> So that's three. >> Okay. >> Oh my [clears throat] god, that's another coincidence. Three bullets, two kills. >> Okay. >> That makes five. >> All right. So, what led to you shooting Mom today? >> Well, when I found out she didn't think of me. Like she didn't think of me that much, but I'm the one taking care of her, and she's not even my mom. I want to know who my mom is. >> Mhm. >> I mean, I think it should be everybody's right to at least know when know who their mom is. >> Okay. >> Why would somebody want to live their their entire life with a stranger? >> I agree. That is that is weird. Um I'm just trying to see if there was any >> Yeah, I don't think I have much time left because I have a bad heart and a lot of bad things with me. In fact, um gave me permission earlier in the week to marry his daughter. >> Okay. >> was going to get married. That we we would have been family anyways. >> Yeah. >> So, why >> So, in relation to your house, where does Tom live? >> Next door. >> Like right next door? >> Right next door. >> Okay. >> Two houses one house over. >> One house over, and it sounds like you live out on the Welch Lake Road. >> Yes, I do. >> Does that road run north-south in that section where you live on? So, with him right next door, is he to the north or the south of you? >> My brother Ryan lives to towards the left. >> Okay. >> Tom's to the right. >> Tom's to the right. >> look out my bedroom window, it's on the right side of the house, and look at the right Tom's left corner of his house. >> So, when you're facing your house from the road, Thomas is to the right and your brother is to the left. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Well, that's another coincidence. That's like a sexist thing, isn't it? >> What's that? >> Well, that mean Well, putting the boy still on and if my mom had a little girl, of course you would want her closer. >> All right. >> And my brother's my other my other brother's house is farther away from the house. >> All right. >> A lot farther than Thomas' house. >> Okay. So, with mom after you shot her, can you tell me what kind of unfolded in those 7 minutes before Tom got there? >> It might have been a little bit longer time. It might have been like 10 minutes. >> All right. >> It might have been 10 minutes. >> So, what happened in those 10 minutes? >> You You just we started arguing and then she she started going crazy on me. She's walking around with a diaper. >> Mhm. >> And with if you look at her feet, you could tell she was walking through her own poop. >> Mhm. >> I mean, she might be completely gone. She was just manic. Crazy. >> Okay. So, then what happened? >> She She She started yelling and throwing stuff at me. Said I was a ungrateful little bastard and I was trying to betray her. Betray what? You're not even my mom. >> All right. >> I didn't betray nothing. >> And then what did you do? >> Then she threw something at me and it hit me in my junk. >> Okay. >> And then I got really pissed off about it and grabbed the gun and then shot her. >> Gosh. >> When she went back to lay down and I walked in and then shot her right when she laid down. >> Okay. >> I was so [ __ ] mad. I shouldn't I shouldn't have done that. >> So, where was the gun? >> It was in my room. >> Okay. >> Cuz my dad gave it to me. >> Uh-huh. Do you keep it in a safe or some >> No, no, I don't. I keep it out with my with my handgun. My handgun should still be at the house, though. >> Okay. >> I never got my handgun. >> What kind of handgun is it? >> It's a old nine-shot cowboy pistol. >> Oh, I got you. I got 22. >> Yeah, it's 22 nine-shot. >> Got you. All right. >> Well, that's another Paid up 100 dollars. Love that gun. Used to do a lot of trapping, you know. >> Yeah. >> So, you why carry a big 22 rifle when you can carry a you know, a a nine-shot 22 pistol on your side? I mean, you can so much either. >> Got you. Um and I want to get back to the trapping conversation cuz that's kind of interesting, but where is your bedroom compared to Mom's bedroom? [snorts] >> Same side. >> Same side of the house? >> Yes. >> Is it a long like I don't I've I've never been in the house. >> It's a I mean, I guess there's a 30 year 40 feet between the two rooms. >> Okay. >> So, they're not very close. No. >> Okay. >> Cuz my dad's room was on one side of the house and my mom's is on the other. >> Mhm. >> So, they're they're not directly like cuz I'm in my dad's old room. >> Okay. Okay. And then you said she was walking through her feces and her walking around with the diaper. Where was that going on at? >> All over the house. >> Okay. >> In fact, there's many times she used to pee and poop in a bucket in her room. >> Okay. Um >> I I told you I was a heavy drinker. I had a bucket I used to puke into, but >> Mhm. Oh, that's That's strange too. That's That's strange too. >> And you said she threw something that hit you in the junk. >> Yeah. >> Where did that happen at? >> That was in her room. I I don't recall what hit me. I never seen it. >> It was in her room though? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um and when you say junk, >> I mean my my privates. I mean my mom knew I had some problems a few months ago. >> Okay. >> Where they swelled up real big. >> Mhm. >> Really scared me. >> Okay. Did you get treatment for that? >> Yes. >> Okay. Did that go away or >> Yes. >> All right. I'm glad to hear that. Um but she knew the problem and she did it anyway. >> Yeah. >> That must have been pretty upsetting. >> Well, yeah. Yeah, I didn't think about it. >> And you said she So, that happened, you got mad. >> Why did she terrorize me? If she she thought I was her son, why would she be so violent mean? >> That's a good question. >> Unless if she unless if she knew I wasn't her son. >> That's a good question. Um I don't know if we'll get the answer. Um do you know where cuz you said you got upset, you went and grabbed your gun. >> Yeah. >> And you came back and you shot her while she was laying down. Where'd you shoot her at? >> In the head. >> In the head? >> I don't like being >> [clears throat] >> I was trying to be humane. >> Okay. >> I don't want to >> And you know your way around trapping and hunting and stuff like that. So, that makes a little bit of sense. What kind of a round do you keep with your with your gun? >> You just buckshot. >> Buckshot? >> One slug and then buckshot. I did buy some deep flex rounds, but like seven or eight of the bullets came up missing. >> Gotcha. >> I mean that's like 30 bucks. It's supposed to be a slug with three bucks out of it. >> Mhm. >> I mean, home defender it said. I figured >> So, it wasn't one of those though. >> No. >> Okay. Do you keep the slug in the chamber first or is that like the next round? >> And then you keep buckshot otherwise. >> Yeah, then it's buckshot. >> Got you. Is this a 12 gauge? Or is it a 20 or okay. >> Um And you said it was about three rounds. Out of curiosity, do you ever shoot like 3-in 2 and 3/4? Or >> only. >> Okay. >> They only use 2 and 3/4. >> All right. Um So, you shot mom. Did she do anything? You said you were trying to make it humane. >> No, she didn't even do nothing. >> Okay. So, there was >> It It was like I honestly It was [clears throat] like she she She was already dead. >> Okay. Um So, then you What happens after that? What happened after you shot your mom? >> That's when Tom came attacking me. >> Mhm. >> And then I shot him. >> Okay. All right. So, you get in the car and you start driving. Where are you going? >> Anywhere because I was I was scared because I didn't want to get in trouble. >> Okay. That's understandable. >> I didn't have nothing in mind. I was Originally, I was going to meet up with my Tom's daughter, but then then all this happened. >> Got you. Um out of curiosity, it looks like you got a little bit of blood on your shirt and your fingers. So, uh were you injured at all? >> No. >> No. Cuz I know he came at you with a knife. I'm just I'm trying to clear up it. Do you have any I I just seen that hand. Is there anything on your other one? >> You only need time. >> Okay. >> There's something we can't talk about. >> All right. All right. Um >> Because if anyone finds out, it's going to be very, very bad. And that's why I cannot >> Gotcha. >> die. >> Okay. You said you're a heavy drinker. Or that you were a drinker. I'm sorry. I I used the wrong word there. Have you had anything to drink today? >> I did have just a few drinks earlier today. I I wouldn't lie about that. >> Okay. >> And then I did get drunk the day before, but I am not drinking no more. >> Gotcha. >> I have to get healthy now. >> Gotcha. What What do you like to drink? When you drink? >> I don't like Jack Daniel's, but when uh I talked to Tom one time. He said he liked to O'Jay. >> Mhm. >> So, I bought him two bottles because I was going to give it to him so he could drink because he he he loved his daughter very much. >> Mhm. >> And he said he was going to spend the night alone drinking, but I was with his daughter. But then all this happened. >> Gotcha. So, what did you have to drink today? You said you had a few drinks. >> Yeah. >> What What were you drinking? >> Jack Daniel's. >> Okay. And what's a few drinks to you? >> Well, I I can't go overboard. I won't lie. I used to drink a fifth. >> Okay. Have you had a fifth today? >> No. I did the night before. >> Okay. But >> Like I said, the night before. But I didn't But I honestly I didn't drink this morning. >> Okay. >> I might have done that last night, but I not really this morning. My blood alcohol might be a little bit high right now, but it's I think I'm going to have a shot with my attorney tonight to see if we can work >> Okay. So, do you want to talk to your lawyer at this point? >> I'm going to need to >> I'm just clarifying what you're saying. >> Yeah, I knew you meant to have one. >> Okay. All right. Well, we're just going to be right outside the door here. If you need anything, just holler. We're going to We're going to be listening, all right? >> I uh definitely cannot die. Or it's going to be extremely really bad for everybody. >> I I don't want you to die here. All right? So, we're going to try to get you on your way here shortly, all right? >> Can I have you give me another cup of water? >> Well, you got two full ones right there. >> I'm going to need a >> I'm going to I'm going to bring you a bottle. Okay? >> Roger Albert Sweeda was charged with two counts of open murder and two counts of felony firearms. Following mental health evaluations, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. In January 2026, Jackson County Circuit Judge John McBain ordered him committed to the Center for Forensic Psychiatry, where he remains. >> Mhm.
