I feel >> [clears throat] >> a little uncomfortable. Sorry. I appreciate Thank you so much. >> I mean, there's I I'll be on There's not much we can do with >> Is there anyone there listening? Please. I can call her. Please. Hello. >> Okay, it's done. It's done. So, can you call someone to give you a ride? >> I will, but please don't call that to me. >> call someone to give you a ride. >> But, come on. >> Call Call someone to come pick you up. >> 100% Are you 100% sure that cuz this is your vehicle. I'm not going to do what you want. >> 100% sure you can put it over there. >> Okay. Look, I wasn't here for that, but >> She's the school principal, bro. She's the principal of Aries. She's a good principal. She was trying to get me home safely. I understand. I understand. I'm not having a bad day. [ __ ] to the Puerto Rican police right here. And we had two drinks. Like, all we've had is two drinks, bro. Like, we're not bad people. I'm a principal of Bright Kids Lakes. She's a principal of Bright Kids of Aries. >> What are the odds that one car gets two different drivers arrested for DUI in a single night, 3 hours apart? Now, make it stranger. Both drivers are elementary school principals. [music] And the second one, she only got arrested because she came back to rescue the first. This really happened in Clermont, Florida, and every minute of it is [music] on body cam. Clermont, Florida, just west of Orlando. >> [music] >> The two women at the center of this are not who you'd expect to see in back-to-back DUI arrests. Jennifer Jimenez, 41, is a principal at Pinecrest Academy in nearby Tavares. [music] Christina Alcalde, 45, has been a principal at Pinecrest [music] Lakes Academy since 2017. These are people entrusted with hundreds of kids every single day. And on the night of July 5th, they were together in Alcalde's white Jeep out on the roads of Clermont in the early morning hours. Just after 2:00 in the morning, a Clermont officer spots a white Jeep doing exactly what you don't want to see. It's drifting. It crosses into oncoming lanes. It bumps over a curb. The officer lights it up on Minneola Avenue near Hook Street. Behind the wheel is Jennifer Jimenez, and in the passenger seat is the Jeep's owner, Christina Alcalde. When Jimenez steps out, >> Hey, good evening. >> Hi. >> Hey, do you happen to have your driver's license and registration on you? >> I don't have my license with me, but I have a copy of it. >> Don't have your license with you, you have a copy? >> Yeah, I have >> Okay. Ladies having a good 4th, or I guess it's the 5th now. Oh, you have a picture of it. Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. Okay, I'll write that down. All right, let's see. Do you know if it's valid, ma'am? >> Yes. >> Okay. Okay, that's fine. Do [music] you Do you happen to have the vehicle registration? >> Yes, sir. >> Nice. And you said it's your car, correct? >> Yes, it's her car. >> Okay, that's fine. No problem. And where are you ladies coming from tonight? >> Let's see. >> We were just driving around in Clermont. >> 2 seconds away from the house. >> Yeah, but I said where I asked where you were coming from. >> [music] >> Okay, that's fine. Just curious. All right. Just wait for my turn on the radio, that's all. >> I think we're going to be fine. >> 26 We're going to go right over here cuz I don't want to be in the roadway and get hit. Are you related to her or anything? >> I'm her best friend. >> Why what Right over here. Hey, stay in the car. >> I know. We're getting out. >> Okay, stay in the car. >> Come on. We're like 2 seconds from home. >> Okay, cool. >> We're both school principals. We're like come on. Don't do this to us. >> Do what? I I'm standing here. >> I know. Like we're not doing anything wrong. She's taking care of me. >> Okay, I I didn't I didn't say y'all did anything wrong. I'm just standing here. >> So, all I did was just tell you not to get out of the car. That's it. >> Officers note she's [music] unsteady. The report describes her walk as very unsteady and choppy and says she [music] staggered and swayed just trying to stand still. She's asked to do field sobriety tests. [music] She refuses. And that refusal in Florida is its own charge. >> Be careful. Why why is she speaking for you? >> Um we're both >> this is my fault. Here, let's go right where the light is. Yep, just right there. Okay, say that again. >> She's worried about me. >> Okay. Why is she worried about you? You're >> Cuz we are both high up and we are both high in total pole of you know, education and >> Okay. >> our workforce. So, it's it's it's hard and [music] we're both uh married to police officers. So. >> Okay. Well, my wife's married to a police officer, too. >> I know she is. >> Okay. >> It's hard. >> [snorts] >> So. >> And I'm >> get home and I >> Is she currently married to one or she have an ex? >> Um both of us are we just recently divorced. >> So, not >> to get her home and >> Okay. >> I thought she was going to be a DD, but it didn't happen and so I'm just trying to get a quarter of the way home. >> Okay. >> They live right across this light. >> You live where? >> Right across. >> Right across where? >> Um Hook Street. >> So, you don't live like across from Hook Street? >> I live right across Hook Street. I just moved. I got divorced. >> So, on your license >> we were just about divorced and I just moved. >> Sorry to hear that. >> Uh I don't know. You should be thankful for me. >> Well, I don't know about the personal stuff, but just just to be clear of the reason why we're here is because you were get you guys were over by Minnehaha. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you were over by Minnehaha um and what [snorts] would that be? East Avenue? >> Yeah. >> You know where that is? >> Yes. >> Okay. You guys were at the light when you're coming down Minnehaha, you're all over the road. >> Okay. >> So, the point even when you come around this corner, you're in that travel lane. >> Okay. >> So, then >> about it, but okay. I'll try to be careful. I believe you. I do I I don't know, but I believe you. Okay. >> Do you remember hitting the curb over there by like Morning Drive? >> No, I do not. >> Okay. So, that that's why I'm here. And then I go up, I talk to you, I notice you have like very slow delayed reactions. I could smell the alcohol. Um you even have like slow blink, you know, your orbital sway like I say when you see >> I know it all. I've been there 20 years with my husband. >> Okay. Jimenez is arrested for DUI and for refusing to submit to testing. Here's the setup for everything that follows. >> Okay. >> All right. So, go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> Okay. You got it, officer. >> Yeah, yeah. All right. >> Take your Apple Watch off. Just so that it doesn't get messed up with the cuffs, okay? >> Okay. >> Do you want me to put it in the car? >> Yeah, wherever you want. Wherever you want. >> I'm just trying to think of a good >> All right. Uh we're going to walk over to this car right over here, straight ahead. >> 187, Lake. >> 10-11. >> Jennifer's 10-15. >> All right, anything on you that I should know about? Anything that might poke me, stab me, anything like that? Nothing in your pockets? >> Nothing at all. >> 317, can you have her work on the ride? >> On call. >> Uh give me just a minute. Let's work on this part first and then we'll go from there, okay? >> Do you have anything in the vehicle? >> No, man. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> I I I got it. I know you're not trying to be like that. >> You can you can remove them. >> You're good. I'm just looking for any bobby pins or anything like All right. You can take a seat here. >> Other things. >> [snorts] >> Is there anyone there listening? Please. I can calm her. Please. Hello. >> For the police department. I'm going to take you into our breath testing room and we'll we'll get that off figured out and done, okay? Do you mind lifting my a little bit? Don't fall. Yeah. You want me to do that? >> I think yeah. >> I don't know how much I can help with that. Do you have a jail? Can you write it down for me and then just bring it to me? And we're in downtown I'm just cuz it has to be accurate. I appreciate it though. That's awesome you remember that. Not a lot of people do. >> numbers. >> Oh, don't fall. I'm going to go this way my hair. Do you wear dentures? >> No. >> Can you open up your mouth and lift up your tongue? Okay. All right. >> [snorts] >> I'm now requesting that you submit to a lawful test of your breath for the purpose of determining the alcohol content. Will you take the test? >> Yeah. >> If you refuse to take the test I've requested of you, your driving privilege will be suspended for a period of 1 year for your first refusal. Additionally, if you refuse to take the test I've requested of you, you'll be committing a misdemeanor in the second >> So it's in my shirt a little bit. I feel a little uncomfortable. Sorry. I appreciate it. Thank you so much. >> I mean there's I I'll be on there's not much we can do with the >> No, I I was just I was just >> Yeah. >> It was immense feeling over an hour long, but yeah. Thank you so much. >> way. Well, the the jail will give you a a shirt to wear. >> Okay. I think it's too short. I can go back to her car. >> Sit right there. >> May I make a phone call? When you get to the jail? >> Alcalde, the passenger, isn't arrested at this point. She orders a ride share to get home >> [music] >> and police park the white Jeep in a nearby lot to be dealt with later. >> All right, so she is going to be arrested. >> No, she's not. >> That's >> Why? >> That's what that officer came to conclusion. >> Why? >> He came to that conclusion she was driving intoxicated. >> No, why? >> Okay. >> Come on. >> So >> Like we're two principals of two charter schools. >> Please don't do this to our careers. >> Okay, so that's not That's Okay. >> not to me. What's What's already done is done. Okay, it's done. It's done. So, can you call someone to give you a ride? >> that to me. >> But come on. Please >> Call Call someone to come pick you up. >> I would probably put that in your glove box, but I mean that's your choice. It's your car. I'm not going to tell you what to do with it. >> I know, that's where I usually keep it. >> All right, do you have anything else in that center console right there? You don't got anything else in here? Do you have the car keys? All right, so you want us to go move this in that parking lot right there? >> Yes, please. >> Is that Are you good with that? Like 100% Are you 100% sure that cuz this is your vehicle. I'm not going to do what you want. >> sure you can put it over there. >> Okay. We're almost there. >> School principal brought She's like such a good person. >> I got you. >> Why did you do that? >> Do you want to have a seat real quick? >> Yes, why are you doing that? I got >> [clears throat] [laughter] >> Why are you doing that to her? Why are you doing that? God damn. Oh, she's a good person. >> As far as the officers are concerned, that car is done for the night. It is not. Around 5:00 in the morning, roughly 3 hours later, the arresting officer gets word that Alcalde has been seen driving in Claremont. He checks the lot. [music] The white Jeep is gone. Alcalde had gone back, retrieved her own car, and [music] gotten behind the wheel herself. She makes it about a mile before [music] she's pulled over on State Road 50 near Sandhill View Boulevard, and her reason for driving is the part nobody sees coming. Alcalde tells officers she was on her way to an ATM to withdraw $2,000 to post bond and [music] bail out Ximenez, her friend, the principal who'd just been arrested in that very same Jeep. She insists she herself is fine. >> Hey, turn off the car. Why are you driving? >> I'm really >> Worried? >> I was supposed to pick her transfer her to Lake Mary's. So, I'm just going to go and wait. >> Okay, well, we're in a different area now because you're driving and you shouldn't be driving. >> I understand that. She lives right there. I was at her house, and then I called and they told me that she was right there at the South Lake police, the South Lake whatever. >> her to the jail. to bond her out. So I went to the ATM but my ATM card doesn't work. So then now I'm like stuck. So I don't know what to do cuz she can't get out till 10:30. So then I'm going to go back to her house right now. That's what I was doing. Like I'm not meaning to do anything wrong. I'm way better. >> I just talked to you. You were really drunk when I talked to you. >> It's a couple hours later. I understand. I'm really not. I promise you I'm not. I'm just really worried. My friend is you got me [laughter] here. >> Well look, I can still smell it. So are you able to do field sobriety exercises for me? >> It's fine. I don't want to go to jail either. >> Go go and sit down for me, okay? I'm just going to come to the sidewalk. All this way? All right, got a couple of questions before we get started, okay? All right, are you sick or injured? >> No. >> Are you diabetic? >> No. >> Do you take insulin? >> No. >> Are you under the care of a doctor? Are you taking any medications? >> Not at all. >> Um do you have a physical handicap? >> No sir, not at all. Not at all. >> Are you under the care of a dentist? >> You'll explain to me what you're going to do with your person. >> I'm going to I'm going to go on this side cuz of the flashlight. Christine, can you face me? All right, what's your question? >> What would you do with your person? >> Not drive. >> You're saying that? What am I going to do? >> What what what was your question about your options? >> I don't want to I want to be able to wake up in the morning and go get her. And be okay. And her be okay. And I be okay. We're both responsible for that bad people. Okay. The freaking cop was with this. I don't know what she said. I don't know what she did. She had a freaking abusive husband that was a cop. So, she has PTSD. >> okay? >> I I understand. She probably gave him attitude. I'm not going to say she didn't, but >> Not relevant, okay? So, what do we have now? >> Right? >> I know. >> Do you understand where we're at? >> I Yes, I do. >> Do you want to do field sobriety exercises? You're still going to be like >> I I I feel way better than it was before when you sent me home. I understand that. And I did go home. I was in the parking lot for 2 hours. And then I called and they told me she was at South Lake. So, like they told me she was right there. So, I tried to pay the $2,000. They don't take it right now. >> field sobriety exercises or not? >> What are my options? >> So, your options are you can do field sobriety exercises and if you say you're better, that gives you the opportunity to dispel my concerns that you're not operating a vehicle while you're intoxicated, okay? If you don't want to do those, that can be used against you in court. You're refusing to participate and I have to make a determination based on what I have so far. >> Right. >> Which I just talked to you. >> I know. I know. >> You're really drunk and you're already driving again. >> I know. >> Do you understand? >> That was a lot of going on. I get it. I understand. >> So, you want to do field sobriety exercises? >> I don't know I'm I'm not sure what's like what's better for me. Like I don't know. >> Your choice. I gave you your options. >> I would trade for her in a second. So, I'll take it. >> I got you. I gave you your options. You can do them or not. Up to you. >> But officers put her through field sobriety tests [music] walking a line, following an object with her eyes, and note that she's, in their words, on the edge. She then refuses [music] the breath test. And just like that, the same car that got Jennifer Jimenez arrested at 2:00 a.m. >> Okay. So, what I have you do is put your feet together. Put your hands down by your sides. And stay like this. This is I'm going to check your eyes. So, follow my finger with your eyes and your eyes only, okay? Um don't move your head and stay in that position while I do the exercise. Do you understand so far? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Do you wear contacts? >> No. >> Keep your head still, okay? >> Gets Christina Alcalde arrested at 5. Two principals, one Jeep, one night. >> Put your hands behind your back, okay? >> No. No, please. No, please. We don't have No, why? >> Well, because you you were given an opportunity to go home. You got a ride. Listen. >> And then you made the choice to then go get the car that you were told to leave in the parking lot and drink impaired. Or drive I should say drive impaired. >> Please. Please. Please. Please. We don't have anybody else. Like who was going to like Please. >> Well, she was going to be in there for 8 hours. There was no point. >> that, but please. Please. She thinks I'm going to get her at 10:30. Please. Thank you. Please. >> It's not 10:30? >> Please. She was going to get out at 10:30. Please. Come on, guys. I'm not like impaired. I just passed a whole test. >> It's not a test, it's exercises. There's no pass or fail. >> but I did it. >> Do you mind facing the car? >> Come on, please. >> your feet apart. >> Please. >> Do you mind moving your feet apart? I don't want to have to do it for you. Thank you. >> kids. Please, I'm not doing anything. >> Is there somebody at home with their kid with your kids? >> Please, yes, their dad. >> Okay. As long as there's an adult there. >> So, how do we get out? >> You have You're going to have to wait 8 hours. You have to sober up. You can bond out in 8 hours. >> am. >> No. >> Okay. >> You can bond out in 8 hours. You have anything in your bra? >> No, I have nothing. >> Okay. Just know because it's like a wired bra, if there's Huh? >> My phone is in my car. >> We'll grab it. It's a wired bra and I'm not going to put my hand inside your bra. If there's something in there that you can't find or that I don't find and you bring it into the jail, it is bringing contraband in the jail. Just let everybody know that. But I'm not going to give you my ID. >> you guys going to like arrest both of us? >> Yeah. >> You want to PD? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And my again. >> No. I got it. I can reach in there. I'm good. >> Can I get my stuff? >> Yeah, we'll grab it. You can't get it. We'll grab it. You're under arrest. >> Okay. >> I swear. Her watch is going to probably bother her. Where's your stuff in your car that you'd like? >> My black purse and my phone, please. >> Your black purse and your phone? >> Yes, please. >> Okay. >> Both women are charged with driving under the influence >> [music] >> and with refusing testing second-degree misdemeanors. Both are released [music] on $2,000 bond. The same amount Al Caudle said she was trying to withdraw [music] for her friend. >> I just yeah, just whenever you're you're good. I know you're typing. Just bring me the packet to fill out. Yeah, you're okay. We're going to go right there. But they can see in that blue chair. I'm now requesting that you submit a lawful test of your breath for the purpose of determining the alcohol content. Will you take the test? If you refuse to take the test I requested of you, your privilege your driving privilege, excuse me, will be suspended for a period of 1 year for your first refusal. Additionally, if you refuse to take the test I requested of you, you will be committing a misdemeanor in the second degree. >> Okay. Um do you still want to answer questions, just not that one, or you don't want to answer any more questions? Okay. All right, we're going to go up to the Lake County Jail now, and then I have your purse, your phone, your ID, your wallet's in there. Um my partner said there's $90 cash in there. They'll do another count up at the jail and account for all your jewelry. And I'll print you a tow sheet that shows you where your vehicle's being towed to, and then all the rest of your paperwork. But I'm going to get going, okay? >> And importantly, both have pleaded [music] not guilty. Nothing here has been proven in court. Still, the fallout is real. These aren't anonymous drivers. [music] They run schools full of children. And arrests like these put their careers and their district's [music] trust squarely in the spotlight. The case is now working its way through the Lake County [music] courts. So, here's my question. Set aside the DUI for a second. If your friend got arrested, would you drive across [music] town in the middle of the night in the exact car that got them busted to go bail them out? Was this loyalty or just the second worst decision of the night? And should the fact that they lead schools change how we judge it? Drop your take in the comments.
