[screaming] [screaming] 74. Where am I? >> At 7:00 in the morning on August 10th, 2024, a white Mercedes was moving through downtown Miami at a speed that made no sense for a Saturday morning in the city. Surveillance cameras mounted at the intersection of North Miami Avenue and North 8th Street captured what happened next in footage so sudden and so violent that it barely registers on the first viewing. The Mercedes traveling at 78 mph with the accelerator pushed to 100% blew through a red light and slammed into a black Range Rover. The force of that collision sent both vehicles careening into a silver Suzuki that was crossing the intersection. The sound was catastrophic. Edel folded, glass shattered. Three vehicles, four people, and one intersection. And in the span of two seconds, two men were dead. When police arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the Mercedes face down on the pavement. >> Driver, is he responding? >> He dead. He dead in the car. >> No, no, no. Hold on a second. See, rescue is going to take care of it. >> Why are we saying that? Okay. >> Miami. I also have the possible 18 and they have I think it's a female on the ground. She's with the white Mercedes. They got her neck. >> This is another witness. He says that the Mercedes was going on this direction. and move through it. >> Oh, you already have the camera. >> The data from the Mercedes tells the story with clinical precision. 5 seconds before impact, Macy Lathers was traveling at 57 mph through downtown Miami. The posted speed limit in that area is 30. She was already nearly double the legal speed. And then for reasons that only the drug in her system can explain, she pressed the accelerator to 100%. Not partially, not gradually, 100%. The car surged forward, climbing from 57 to 78 mph in the span of seconds. And she did not slow down. She did not break. She did not see the red light or she did not care about the red light or she was in a dimension where red lights do not exist. At 78 mph, the white Mercedes entered the intersection and struck a black Range Rover driven by a 23y old man. >> Perfect. >> My head. >> Okay. Asked her question, she advised she was under the influence of 2C, a known party drug, and that she was from the future and had a crystal ball drive order. You are not allowed to drive a motor vehicle while this case is pending. Do you understand, ma'am? Okay. I believe an increased bond is warranted. She's an absolute danger of the community based on killing two or driving when she shouldn't have been in a car and she's clearly impaired based on her statements. >> The legal process began quickly. On August 16th, 6 days after the crash, Macy Lathers appeared before Judge Mindy Glazer for her first hearing. She faced eight felony counts, including two charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing death. The judge's assessment was blunt. You are an absolute danger to the community based on killing two people from your driving when you shouldn't have been in the car. Despite those words, the judge set bond at $140,000 and allowed house arrest. Lathers posted bail. She was fitted with an ankle monitor and sent home. On September 16th, Lathers was back in court. This time, Judge Teresa Mary Puler presided. In the courtroom, Lathers held her head in her hands and rocked back and forth as the judge. The families of Abraham and Jesus were present. Juanita Hernandez, the surviving victim, addressed the court. In March of 2025, Laws filed a motion to get her iPhone and two iPads back from police custody. The judge denied. As of today, Macy Marie Lathers remains in jail. She has been behind bars since September 2020. Her trial is pending. She faces 12 criminal charges, including two counts of Dewey manslaughter, two counts of vehicular homicide, and two counts of reckless driving. If convicted on the most serious charges, she could spend up to 30 years in prison. Her Instagram page is still active. The photos are still there, the modeling shots, the lifestyle posts, the curated glamour of a 24year-old woman building a brand in Miami. Macy Marie Lathers told police she was from the future. [music] She is not. She is in a jail cell in Miami Dade County waiting for a trial that will determine whether she spends the next three decades behind bars. The future she described, the one with crystal balls and aliens, does not exist. The only future that exists is the one where Abraham's son grows up without a father. Where Juanita lives with scars and ashes. And where an Instagram feed full of glamour shots serves as a permanent monument to vanity that ended in violence. 78 mph. Accelerator at 100%. Red light.
