I need you to go with this deputy. Have a seat in her car. She's gonna hang out with you. >> Take her. I'll get an EMS. Come check her out. >> See the shooter. >> He tells our dispatch she just shot me. About five more seconds go by and three more shots go off. >> G Breeze, Florida. September 8th, 2021. Just before 1 in the afternoon, Navy Chief Petty Officer Bri Christen Cune calls the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office. She tells deputies her husband, Colin James Turner, pushed her against a doorway and threw her to the floor that morning. Turner, a retired Marine who now stays home with their children, tells deputies nothing physical happened and that he wants to take the kids to his parents in Georgia. Both accounts are documented. No one is arrested. Around 5:00, Turner calls. He has been locked out of his own home. A second deputy gets him back inside. At about 20 6, Turner calls a third time from the garage. That night, Brie [ __ ] sits down with detectives. She has already told deputies she shot her husband. What she has not been told is that he was on the line with 911 when it happened. as she describes the moment the garage door opened. Listen for whether her account can survive what that phone line recorded. >> That is very important information, but we only have we can only see so much of it. >> It was me. >> What was you? >> I shot him. >> I told you. >> What was he doing? >> You said he made you do this >> towards me. No, >> I didn't say that. And I don't want to answer any more questions. I want to talk to my dad. My kids don't have any parents right now. This is the interrogation of Bri Kristen [ __ ] >> Um the only thing I'm going I'm going to say one thing and that is um I've talked to a lot of people tonight. Okay. Um, but I feel like your voice is the most important and I want to give you the opportunity to kind of explain or maybe give us a little bit of insight exactly what happened tonight. That's kind of why it's important for you being here. Um, but due to the day and age that we live in, I'm going to go and read you your rights, okay? You have the right to remain silent. Any say can be used against you in court. You have the right to have a lawyer present while being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, a lawyer will be appointed for you without cost before questioning. If you wish to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering questions at any time. Okay. Do you understand your rights? Um, talking to you down there, you said that you would you would talk to me, uh, answer some questions. So, just kind of walk me through today. I know we got cold out there a couple times. So, just just just walk me through Breeze through Bree's eyes. I called the first time. Um, we were our calling. My husband was um he was threatening to take the kids. >> Okay. He said that since I have tried to kill myself um a couple months ago that no judgment of children was saying he's going to take the kids and um >> today he wasn't >> yeah couldn't um this was in like our bathroom area and he pushed me up against the doorway Uh, but I was just trying to try to talk to him and then we're in the bathroom. He threw me on the ground. and said nobody would believe me cuz I was a crazy [ __ ] And so I called the police. Um they um they couldn't do anything [snorts] because I didn't I didn't have any marks on me and there wasn't any witnesses. just want you down. Uh she's got a shotgun and her pistol bedroom with her. >> Okay. >> Uh and my pistol is on the dashboard of my truck. They're all pretty for you. >> You stay out here, man. >> There's a little dog running around. Go uh all the way to the wall and then turn right. >> Her name's Bri. >> Her name's Bri over there. Okay. >> Hey, Miss Bri. >> Hey, I'm Deputy Heartbar. Did you call? What are you doing? What's going on today, ma'am? >> Um, so my husband is trying to take the kids. >> What's up, big guy? >> Um, he threw me on the floor and pushed me against the wall. >> And this all happened today. >> This? Yes, it happened. >> We having issues over um since the weekend. >> What uh what are the issues about? >> Um just typical relationship stuff. Are you guys married? >> Yeah, we're married, but his uh his go-to is to use the kids against me. So, he's taking him to Georgia, >> and I don't want >> Kitty thing. >> I just I don't want him um Yeah, I don't want him taking my kids. I've um I have appointments with attorneys. Um I don't want him in the house. He raped me over the weekend. I just want >> You guys, you got any marks anywhere? Um for >> 104. Thank you. You mind if we look and check? I mean, cuz if you got any marks anywhere, I mean, you got any bruises or anything? >> No, except he just pushed me up against the doorway and threw me down on the bathroom floor. >> You don't have any redness anywhere? >> No. I mean, >> no scratch marks. No, >> I'm going to say cuz I need I need something, you know. Is it fair the proof of battery? I mean, anybody can say anything, but if you had some marks or [snorts] you know, some video or there was a third party >> does it and nobody can see it. >> The problem is I got to be able to prove it. That's why I'm asking if you got marks or bruises or anything. Anyway, that's I [snorts] need I need something else. >> So, next time I'll just make sure that he punches me in the face. >> That's not what I'm saying at all. But I mean, it doesn't matter what you or I know. If I can't prove it, it it doesn't go anywhere in court. Did the kids witness any of it? >> No. >> They don't need [snorts] to anyway. But sometimes, you know, if they do see something and it's okay, then I'll I'll talk to them because if they can give me a story, >> you know, but um >> Yeah. I don't want them to >> No, no, I'm with you. >> Um >> and I don't want it to sound like that. I can't do anything for you. But I mean, >> I'm going to go out there and ask him about it. And if unless he straight up confesses to putting his hands on you and pushing you against the wall, I mean, >> I don't have much other than documenting that I can do to there's nothing that you can do. He said he raped me over the weekend. He threatened to take my kids. He put his hands on me today and he can just walk out of here with my kids. >> It's not what I'm saying exactly. and the kid thing that's between we're not going to get involved with you guys taking the kids or separating the kids or saying that this parent or that parent can take the children. That's >> not unless there's a protection order or a domestic violence injunction or something from a court. >> They're going to do that through the court system. Yes. >> Okay. Um if you want to get you a statement and get you started on that, >> fill it out. Tell me what happened today. um >> everything that happened be detailed as possible. >> I'm just I'm assuming that the kids can get out of here. >> Um do you want to fill out a statement? >> Um I I can I fill out a statement after like I just want to get them and get out of here and then I can fill them out um at another time. >> If you want I'll get it and I'll leave it for you. >> Okay. >> All right. Let me uh I mean if you want to take a few minutes to get some stuff together, I'm going go out here and talk to him and then I'll be back in. Okay. Now you're blood kids naturally. >> That's going to be civil. We're not going to get in in the middle without a court order. >> I can't take the kids from her and give them to you. Can't take them to you and give them to her. So nothing I can do about that. >> If she wants to take the kids or you want to take the kids, we're not going to get in the middle of it, but you guys aren't going to argue about it, especially while we're here. Um what happened today real quick? I know you're talking about partner. >> Uh long story short, she went into a uh >> borderline borderline rage last night. Uh and it's continuing to now she figured out I was trying to take my kids Georgia, >> give give space between the two of us. Not >> take the [ __ ] kids away from her. Okay. Go to I'm the primary caretaker of the kids. Only caretaker of the kids. >> I don't. >> He wants to go to Georgia to his parents, their grandparents. >> Without her because he wants to take a break, not to live there to remove the kids from her. >> I get it. Well, that's y'all's business. We're not going to dive far into it. >> I just basically we're here cuz she called us. >> Can I get my children out of this? We can't stop you from doing anything. Y'all are married. Only thing we can stop you from is being violent toward each other. Go to jail. >> So, you know, 185. >> That's y'all stuff. Y'all's truck. Y'all are married. I don't care if it's just your name on it or just her name on it. It's y'all stuff. You're married properties. >> All the kids. Um, like I said, the laptop marital property, man. Sucks. But >> Oh, I know. That's >> If I didn't already know that, I would have [ __ ] called you guys then. And there there's not a whole lot we can do with it. >> Crap out of the truck. >> Can't stop her. You can't physically, you know, grab her cuz that's going to be a problem. >> But that's not going to help anything either. So, it's one of those pushpull, you know, it just sometimes it's better to stand off to the side and then let things cool off and then later you guys get back together and say, "Hey, >> what's going to happen?" Well, love to if it weren't for all her mental health issues and diagnoses and suicide attempts, then I would I'd walk away and let her have the kids and have space that way, but I'm not going to leave toddlers or somebody trying to kill themselves twice over the last >> I'm not I'm not telling you what to do, man. Um, and before I get too far off from the tangent, um, nothing physical. You guys just arguing back and forth verbally. >> Yeah. I I told him I I went to my my daughter my wife and my daughter were both sleeping in bed last night. I went to pick up my daughter to take her to the couch with me and my son and my wife woke up and like did one of these over my daughter. Uh >> you see protecting the ball with a fumble. I was like, "Are you serious right now?" And then I backed away. >> Nobody pushing anybody. Nobody trying to hit anybody. Any reason why she would say maybe that you did bat her? because she has borderline personality disorder and it's a textbook >> uh thing for people with that disorder to do is make false allegations. >> I get you want to fail the statement at all with me? You don't have to. I just have to offer it if you want to f witness statement. >> Yeah, I'd love to. I'll get you one. >> All right, >> Miss Bri. >> Yeah. Definitely. Thank the statement for you. Um, if you want to fill it out now, if you want to work on it, you can. If you want to wait, it's up to you. [laughter] [laughter] It's up to you. >> So just if he hits me again, >> pull out your phone if you guys start arguing. >> Okay. >> Record it. Call us. >> You raise your right hand for me, Mr. Colin. You swear and affirm everything you told me is true. For the best your knowledge. >> Yes. >> You just sign it on both sides at the bottom where it says aient orient. I'm not sure how you say that. >> And then we'll get out of y'all's hair in just a minute. You guys going to be okay, you think, after we leave? >> Yeah. Um, you call the command, see if they can help me. >> We, um, I mean, we can't dictate who takes the kids or where they go. Just you guys try to be civil about it, man. Um, you know, how long have you guys been married? >> 5 years. Six or seven years. >> Miss Bri, >> I'm going to give you both a business card. There's one for you, Colin. >> If you guys need anything, call us. Okay. >> It's all part of the report. It's You'd have to get it from records with the sheriff's office. Okay. >> And he made a statement after he spilled out something uh and I had I got the kid stuff out of his truck while he was doing that. Um and my car [snorts] because I was going to take him somewhere if need be. Um, I got the garage door opener out of his truck and I think when they left he was like on the phone uh with my command. So, I closed the garage doors and I locked the door [snorts] and took the batteries out of the lock so that he couldn't come in um and take the kids. I didn't want them. [snorts] I didn't want them to see us fighting. >> Thank you. [snorts] >> [sighs] [snorts] >> Um and then I don't it was a couple hours later oh my daughter the kids were napping and I was um I was texting him and calling him cuz he was in the driveway. way. [snorts] So, he wasn't leaving, but he was just in the driveway. >> How long was he locked out of the house? >> Maybe an hour. >> Okay. Okay. So, you wasn't leaving? >> No. Um, [snorts] my kids, they're four and three, and the three-year-old sometimes she wakes up from a nap like really confused. just hysterical if you can't console her and it's usually hit or miss on who can console her. Sometimes we end up just, you know, he'll he'll have her for a little bit and they'll give her to me and she's still screaming on her. I end up handing her back and forth a couple times. Um, but she was she was so cry. So I took him I took her out but um and he was still there. master daddy. Uh I gave birth to him. Um and he he wouldn't talk to me. I had texted him just you know saying like this [snorts] like this this is really like the path that we want to do like like this is just crazy that we're fighting for the kids. Hello. Good to see you here. >> Yes, sir. Indeed. What can I do for you? I'm deputy kind of sheriff. So, >> hey, my wife won't let me in my house. >> Dispute. Yep. >> Okay. Can I talk to you over here? Can I have my daughter, please? >> Can I just have you wait right there for just one moment? Okay. >> Not right now. Hold on just one second. We'll get this figured out. Okay. >> So, what's going on today, sir? >> Um, so she's got mental health stuff going on. I was trying to leave for Georgia. >> Get a break from her for me and the kids uh earlier today and then she called you guys. Um and while I was talking to you guys, she took my photo ID, all my access to money and everything. Okay. >> And then took the kids inside and locked me out. So they're locked outside in my driveway. >> Okay. >> For the last couple hours. >> You live here? >> What's that? >> Do you live here? >> Yeah. Yeah. We're co owners. We both >> Okay. >> Um so I've been on the phone with family through uh the Navy and and all that today. I apparented that I'm the outside. >> Okay. >> Uh until she came outside with my daughter on the porch >> screaming. >> Uh so I came over and she gave my daughter to me. Make her stop screaming. >> And what's the argument over? >> Um >> they put a not something about kids going to Georgia. >> Yeah. That that was the uh most most uh closest alligator to the boat. >> Okay. >> But she was mad that I uh turned off the Wi-Fi last night. So she washed my laptop in dishwasher. >> Okay. Okay. And that's kind of like the last straw. >> You guys are you guys are you guys still married? >> Uh I mean for now. Yeah. >> It's still legal and it's common property. >> Yep. >> What's yours is hers and hers is yours. Unfortunately. >> Yep. So she's not allowed to stop me from entering my house. >> Uh if it's your house and you still live here, by all means, you got to enter your home. However, you got to enter your home. >> Makes sense. >> Yeah. So she's she's allowed to change the locks and I'm allowed to break a window. Is that what you're saying? it. I'm not telling you to break a window. If you want to tear, it's your property. However, you got to get into your house. You got to get into your house. If it's your home and you live here and you got your items in there, >> if you got to get in, however you got to get in, >> let me in. >> Well, I'm going to talk to her in just a second. We'll figure out what's going on. But >> yeah, so then it was that back to the more recent. Sorry. >> Okay. >> She wanted to take Lanny back inside. Lanny, >> Laney started screaming that she doesn't want to go inside without daddy. Okay. And then she wants Laney to go inside without dating. >> Okay. >> So, >> and so here we are. >> So, here we are. >> Okay. At any point was this argument. Was it physical? Was it anybody hit, scratch, kick, bite, push, anything like that? Poke, anything even? >> Nope. >> Okay. So, that's just basically just a verb argument over the kids going to Georgia then. Is it a continuation from what happened earlier then? >> Is that fair to say? >> Continuation of years, but yeah. >> Okay. Right. But I mean, I'm because I know we were out here earlier over over the kid issues. >> Oh, This This happened directly after you guys were here earlier. She locked me. >> Okay. About what time were we here earlier? >> What? Like two >> two sounds. Okay, that's fine. Do you mind if I step over talk to you? >> Yeah. Okay. >> Hey, can I talk over here? I don't, you know, want arguing back and forth. >> He has trouble hearing. >> Okay. So, I'm Deputy Lynwood County Sheriff's Office as I said earlier. So, what's going on today? >> Um, well, you guys were out here earlier. >> I'm 104. Thank you. >> He's just trying to take my kids to Georgia. Okay. >> Um I >> Are they your kids or they yours and his? >> Um these two Oh, the small kids are mine and his. >> Okay. >> Um >> and so he's want to take him to Georgia. >> Yeah. I was talking to him about wanting a divorce. So he said that he's going to take the kids to Georgia. Um and he can because we're still married. >> Okay. >> Um >> we got into an argument about it. Um he pushed me up against the wall. He threw me onto the floor in the bathroom. That's when I called the police. Okay. >> Um earlier today. >> Okay. >> Um they came out. Um >> did you know whatever they could do, which wasn't really anything? >> Um and then I I locked him out. >> Okay. >> Um he had been in contact Well, he had been in contact with my command. >> Okay. >> So um I was he said that there's allegations of emotional abuse. >> Okay. Um, so obviously I I don't want him in there. Okay. You know, him and I arguing in front of the kids, so I'll let him out. >> My daughter, she wakes up sometimes like inconsolable from naps or whatever. >> Sure. >> Um, and it's usually like him and I will pass her back and forth. It's kind of, you know, she's fickle who she wants better. >> Um, so she woke up from a nap. And >> when you say your daughter, you mean that one? >> Yeah. Yeah. Meanwhile, I had been um I had called him and texted him like, "Hey, you know, we should talk. This is not the path we want to go down right now." >> Right. >> Um, yeah. Yeah. When she woke up like that, I brought her out here because I'm, you know, she's used to him and I, so I brought her out here. >> Um, so he can help calm her down. Um, he snatched her from me and then started trying to use her to >> Okay. >> I don't I don't know. >> Okay. >> Uh, he said, you know, she doesn't want to come in the house unless daddy's there. >> Okay. >> Being manipulative. It's not a good environment. >> I don't know if you heard what I told him. It's his house, too, right? He lives here, too. So, we can't lock each other out of the house. I mean, if we do, he's got every right to enter the house however he's got to enter the house. >> Okay. All right. >> Um, and same thing if we change the locks. He's got every right to get in the house however he's got to get in the house. Okay. If he lives here, he's got property here. >> For the betterment of your daughter, >> whatever you guys want, you got to put aside for the kids. You understand? >> I agree. But he told me not to talk to him. So, I'm not going to let him in the house that he's going to come in and start >> Okay. >> start arguing. >> But at the same time, that's leaving the child. I mean, that's kind of leaving the child out here for herself. Does that make sense? >> I can. Yeah, for sure. I don't want him to do that. >> Okay. But I mean, I can't stop him from going inside the house. >> Well, that's fine. I just wanted him to listen to me so that she's not out here. Okay. >> I said earlier that since nobody I didn't have any bruises, there was nobody to witness >> um him getting physical with me, they couldn't do anything. >> So, what you can do is I don't want him to come in and get physical with me in front of me. >> Okay. What I'm going to tell you do is what I tell everybody to do. Mhm. >> You got that phone, right? That phone's got a camera on it. You were asking earlier, if it's your house, how do you get inside? It's your house. You got to get inside however you get inside. Okay? I can't tell you how to get inside your own house. If you got to call locksmith, that's fine. If you've got another way in, that's up to you. It's your property. It's your house. Okay? You got to get in how you got to get in. Okay? For the sake of the children though, what we got to do is we got to figure something out between you two. Okay? And I understand we can't fix, you know, all the problems in 10 minutes. Okay? But when it comes to a point, you know, where we're standing out in the driveway with a kid and it's hot, I mean, it's a hot day. You're sweating. I'm sweating. If it if it turns physical at any point, somebody's going to have to go to jail. Okay? State law requires somebody to go to jail. >> If somebody gets physical and there's an evidence of it, somebody's going to jail. >> Okay? Whether it's you, whether it's her, I don't know. But >> I wanted to go to Georgia and why I've been happy standing out here all day because >> Well, they're they're your kids. I'm sure like that deputy told you earlier, they're your kids, they're her kids. You know, I can't tell you what to do and that's a civil matter. Okay. >> Uh so if you want to take the two kids and go and she's good with it, great. If you want to take the kids and she's not good with it, well, you know, it's possessions nine of law. Okay? You see what I'm saying? It's a civil issue, though. >> Um, but if you guys are going through divorce, make sure you get a child custody agreement of some sort. You know, that's worked into that the divorce paperwork as well, if that's the case. Okay. >> Yep. >> Um, I'm going to go in there and speak to her one more time. Do you have any questions for me? >> So, she she can take my driver's license and >> Does she have your driver's license? >> Yeah. >> Where's it at right now? >> I don't know where it's at. When I was uh when I was talking to the >> deputies in my garage giving a statement earlier, she came out to my truck and took my wallet. So, three forms of ID. And >> so, your your wallet and your driver's license are the things she's got now. >> Uh, yep. >> Okay. I'll go in and talk to her and ask her about them. Okay. >> Okay. All right. >> Hello. I didn't want to let your doggies out. Um, so he says you got his Walton's driver's license. Do you know where those items are? >> No. Did you remove them from his truck earlier? >> No, I took um my Americans first >> because those are personal items. Okay. So, being as those are personal items, not common shared items. Okay. You know, if if we've taken them from him, that's a theft. Okay. >> Okay. >> Does that make sense? So, if we've got those items, those items need to be returned. >> I'm just going to tell you that. Okay. That's a fair warning. Okay. Um as far as tonight, we've got to figure out something where you guys can maybe one of y'all can get a hotel. Maybe one of y'all can agree to sleep in another room or something like that or whatever. But what we got to do is we got something figured out that way we're not out here 10 more times tonight. You see what I'm saying? >> Okay. He's going to bring the kid inside the house. Okay. And this is his house, too. We're not going to prevent him from coming inside his house. Okay. >> Yeah. So, you were >> Okay. All right. So, this is his house. He's going to bring the kid inside the house and we're going to get things worked out, right? So, we're not coming back out here two more times cuz if we do come out here and somebody tells me somebody's been physical and I can find some evidence of such, i.e. red marks, bruises, scrapes, scratches, or an witness or anything like that, guys. Somebody's going to want to go to jail. might be you, might be him. I don't know. I can't >> I can't predict the future. Okay? But what I'm telling you is if we continue to go down this route, >> we have to start resorting to other things. Okay? Does that make sense? >> And I don't [clears throat] want to do that. Okay? I mean, I want everybody to get along and enjoy their night. Okay? For like I said, for the children's sake, if nothing else, you know, I mean, we can we can hate each other, but you know, in front of the kids, we try not to, >> you know, do something. Yeah. Yeah. And again, I mean, I can't make you can't make you do something if that's not how you want to be. That's not how you want to be. But it's just probably for the best. Okay. Does that make sense? >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. So, can we agree to let him in so he can bring the kid inside and she can get cooled down? >> Yes. So, he's not going to harass kids. >> No, he's not going to he's not going to bother anybody. And if he does, you can give us a call. We'll come back out here. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Any questions for me, Stephanie? >> Okay. I appreciate you being cooperative with me. Thank you. >> Just let me know. Appreciate it. >> Yes, sir. Oh, I did ask her about the uh the wallet and driver line. She said she doesn't know where they are. I unfortunately I can't I can't prove that she does know where they are. >> Um >> I get that for you. I got you. You got your hands full. >> All right. Here we go. >> Might want to wash it off. It hit the ground. >> All right. Off inside. >> You're welcome. >> All right. >> [music] >> You just he told them that I'm his shoes and that I'll be a reasonable one and he doesn't trust me to leave me alone with the kids which wasn't correct. He just he just wanted to take them because I I told him that I wanted a divorce. So he was just [laughter] trying to take the kids. I [sighs and panting] I had to go I have an appointment tomorrow and on Friday with divorce lawyers. >> [gasps and laughter] [gasps] [snorts] >> I just I just wanted to get divorced [gasps] and not fight in front of the kids. And then the police made made him back in the house. [snorts] And I was crying and the the kids were crying. [laughter] Can I talk to my dad? >> It just little [laughter] not. [sighs] >> So, what happened after the the law enforcement left the second time? >> I don't remember. [sighs] I don't remember >> which part [sighs] after they left when I don't when I called my mom. [gasps] He was he was in the garage again and I locked him out. I don't I locked it for some reason. I think to talk to him. >> You locked him out for some reason and that was >> I lock I locked him out to him. He was in the garage. I locked I locked him out. >> Okay. >> But he didn't he was still in the garage [snorts] was opening the door to talk to him. And um he tried coming in so I I blocked the door and he he kicked my foot um and was trying to push push to go to the door and I was trying to keep him out. [snorts] I don't and then [gasps and sighs] I shot him and and to take the kids so I could go come go back and [laughter] and help him because I shut the door. [gasps] He was still coming towards me. I [clears throat] don't think I shut the door and I went [sighs and gasps] um to [gasps] give my kids and I took him out of the house back to go to the neighbor's house and I saw a kid [gasps] riding riding his bike and I I stopped him and I was told him to all night. And um and then I was banging on my neighbor's door [laughter] to call 911 [snorts] and to take the kids so I could go come back [laughter] in. [gasps] How many times did you shoot him? I don't not >> sure. >> So, just to to kind of >> I didn't I didn't I didn't mean to shoot him. It was It was at least twice. I didn't mean to shoot him, but I did. And [laughter] then he was He said something just the look on his face. He just >> What was the look on his face? She was going to kill me. >> And that's how I was. >> Okay. >> All right. This is This is Hold on. This is Deputy Hall. Come here. Give me my shoes off. It's okay. >> Are you in? >> Well, do me a favor. Can you um >> They're working on him right now. Okay. I need you to go with this deputy. Have a seat in her car. She's going to hang out with you. >> Take her. I'll get EMS. Come check her out. She's the shooter. >> Oh, there is. >> Come on, sweetheart. Come on. Let's Let's go. Come over here. >> Right. >> That way, we'll get EMS to check you out. Make sure you're okay. Okay. >> All right. >> Come on. Come over here. Okay. >> Over here. >> Come on. Did you hear everything? You know, I have a spontaneous utterance from her when I was talking to her. I didn't want to go into much detail with her. >> Yeah. I don't want to go into any detail. >> When I walked up, I said, "Hey, what's going on?" She told her girl, she said, "I love you." I said, "Ma'am, what's the application?" She said, "I shot my husband." >> They wanted to confirm the office. >> No, he I wasn't up there, but >> that's that's what they >> No, I'm having them check her cuz she's all shook up. Make sure >> what she said was she There was one girl. There's one girl there. other two. There was three kids in Well, can you advise >> 10 floor? We're trying to locate where they're at right now. >> Big way to get in and out. I remember when she said when they said, >> she said one of them went over there with two over there, one over there. >> Okay. >> And then when I said when she said I shot my husband, I shot my husband. I shot my husband. I said what? She said he was going to take my kids or shot them. And I said, >> and then I said, "Where are the weapons?" And she said, "They're in the kitchen." >> She's already contained in the back of my car. She just kept saying that she shot him. She's in shot right now. >> She told Brman she shot him cuz he was going to take the kids and go to Georgia. We've been out here twice already today. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on real quick. We're searching in real fast. Okay. No, I'm fine. That's just my kids. My husband is home now. >> No, no, they're with the neighbor. Christy, Curtis, John. Christy and John Curtis. Any any other I have nothing on you that I need to be aware of? Nothing. I'm hoping they're not going to get him. The ambulance. I think they need to talk to you, too. So, will the ambulance go get her? >> All right, sir. She's good. I'm going to sit on your car. Don't Don't say no. >> All right. Go ahead and have a seat and call for me. Okay. Listen. Listen to me, ma'am. >> Go ahead and have a seat and call for me. It's easiest if you sit your butt down first and you put your feet inside. Okay. Can you do that for me right now? >> I appreciate you. We'll get this figured out. Okay. I'm going to let you know as soon as I know something. Okay. >> He's dead. >> Listen to me. I'm going to let you know as soon as I know something. Okay. I think she >> twist around inside there. Okay. >> Um, >> my kids going to go to where are they going to go to? >> I Honey, I'm sorry. I really don't I really don't have answers for you. I mean, you saw I was kind of just by the car the whole time standing by you. >> Should I call my dad? I've never even been. >> Huh? >> Can I call my dad? >> Oh, that's going to be it to the main guy. I'm pretty much just assisting them. >> I did add your father's information though, so that way they have it. >> Did you Where did you get the gun when you said you came to the door? Did you already have the gun in your hands? I think >> I think so. >> You already had the gun in your hand when you when you came to [snorts] the garage door? I think >> you think so? >> I don't know. >> Okay. cuz it seemed like it all happened pretty quick. I can I can definitely see that it all happened just very quickly. Um, but he's >> he's dead. He's >> so >> I went I I went to go help him [snorts] in the I couldn't get in the front door because I had taken out the batteries [snorts] from earlier. um and the garage door was closed. So I ran back and ran back um [sighs] and opened the garage and he was just covered up [sighs] screaming. just screaming. I couldn't open the garage door to let like the neighbors in. And I did. I went over. [snorts] I I I pulled it. I was able to open it. I was I tried I tried to help but he was >> I believe that you tried to help him. Okay. >> Is he Was he dead? Is he dead? They would tell me he Yeah, he he was dead. >> Yes, ma'am. He passed away. The detective opened with one instruction. Walk me through today and then mostly stayed out of the way. That choice matters. An open prompt lets a subject build the whole day in her own order at her own pace before anything is tested. Every detail she volunteers becomes something she has committed to. And look at what she committed to. Her account of the first two calls is specific. the doorway, the bathroom floor, the garage door opener taken from his truck, the batteries pulled from the lock. Then the account reaches the last hour and the language changes. I don't remember. For some reason, did she already have the gun in her hand? I think so. I don't know. How many shots? At least twice. The detail thins out at exactly the point where the detail matters most. There is a second shift on the driveway. A deputy reports she told him she shot her husband because he was going to take the children. In this room, the reason becomes a kick to her foot, a push against the door, and a look on his face. He was going to kill me. Through all of it, the detective says nothing about the 911 line. He knows the third call was live when the shots were fired. She does not. Every answer she has given was given without knowing what the recording holds, which is exactly why he has not mentioned it. >> I know that that all happened pretty quick. Okay, so you locked him in the garage. >> You came to the door. >> Can I talk to my dad, please? >> Here in a little while. Okay, we got to get through this first. This is important. [gasps] >> Where's the gun normally kept? So we can go get it. >> It was in >> It's in the kitchen. I put it in the kitchen. >> Where is it normally kept? [snorts] >> My closet. >> Your closet? Yeah, we we have three guns. >> Do you guys share a closet or is it your closet and his closet? >> We share a closet. >> Okay. >> How is it normally kept? I mean, there's kids in the house, so I figured there's you have a a way to keep it away. >> Um, is that the shotgun is the one that's out? >> [snorts] >> Is the handgun in a safe? Is it in its lock box? Is it in its gun container? >> No, it's just it's just up high. >> It's just up high. [snorts] >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um so the kids can't get it. That's why it's up high. >> Okay. Why did you have the gun when you went to the garage door? >> Do you know? >> I just [laughter] I just wanted to go. Why? Why did they Why did they arrest him when I called the police? [snorts] Why did they arrest him? [laughter and gasps] I didn't want him dead. >> I wasn't out there. I didn't >> I I told them, [gasps] "Oh, fuck." >> Was he my kids? Where were your babies when I was this? >> Where are my babies now? >> Where were they at? >> They don't have a dad. >> Where were they at? >> I'm going to jail. They don't >> Hey, Bri, where where were your babies at when this went down? [sighs and gasps] >> They were in my room. >> They were in your room. Okay. [snorts] Do they normally hang out in there or did you tell them to go to your room? >> I don't know. >> They're not sure. Okay. Um, you got two small ones and then you have a 12-year-old girl. Okay. Where was your 12y old Where was your 12-year-old at? >> With them. >> They were with them in your room. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was he on the phone at all? >> Did you call? Did you call my my in-laws so they could come? >> We'll take care of it. >> We will take care of it. Okay. They're going to be safe. Oh, >> okay. Very good. >> Was he doing anything when you opened up the garage door? >> Was he talking on the phone? Was he working on um anything in the garage? What was he doing when you open up the garage door? >> Can I please I just want to talk to my dad. >> I know you do. Okay. >> I know. >> I don't I want to >> [panting and sighs] >> We'll get you a phone, but it is real important that we get everything out of you so we know how to make sense of everything. Okay. >> Doesn't make sense. My husband's dead >> now. the best your best you the best that you can remember. Okay. When you opened up the door, what was what was what was your husband doing? [gasps and laughter] There's just so much blood. >> Oh no. >> I've never [gasps] I've never seen anybody dead. Where was he standing when you were in the in the garage? I don't know. It's just so cold. >> [snorts] >> Is it close to you? Far away. [sighs and gasps] He should have just let me kill myself once again. >> Why you say that? [snorts] >> Because then he would be dead. [laughter and gasps] >> [sighs] >> I'm sure he didn't want you to do anything to yourself, >> right? >> I I don't I don't want to I don't want to talk about it anymore. I >> I want to [gasps and laughter] I just want to go on Can I have to I [laughter] have to talk to my dad. >> We'll get you a phone with his real important for us to understand your perception of what was going on with your husband. >> Bri, you're the only one. You're the only one that could provide these details for us. >> Okay. >> I know. I know. I [clears throat] know. [laughter] [gasps] Well, like I told you at the very beginning, okay, I think it's very important to give a voice. >> Okay, now is your chance to kind of tell us what happened from your point of view to kind of help explain the situation. >> He doesn't have a voice. [sighs] Okay. >> [laughter] [sighs] >> I just thought I thought maybe maybe I was wrong. Maybe he was okay. >> Did he have anything in his hand when when you had to shoot him? I [gasps] I can't do this. >> Well, I know it's very hard, okay? But you got to be strong. If not for you, but for your babies, [sighs] okay? You got to you got to be strong. >> I know they're >> I know. Hey, but you got to be strong, bro. You're still a mother, okay? You got to be strong, okay? You're the only one that can make light of this situation. You're the only one, okay? If it if it was an accident, it's an accident, okay? [snorts] If if things just got out of hand and it was a mistake, then that's what it is. But you got to you got to tell us something, okay? If if if things just got out of hand and you made a mistake, you got to tell us that, okay? Cuz we don't know we don't know what to believe otherwise. Okay? You're the only one that can provide us any sort of light. >> And [snorts] you know, >> I don't think you're a bad person. Detective Kelly doesn't think you're a bad person. Nobody thinks that you're a bad person. [sighs and gasps] Okay? Sometimes we do things that that we let things get out of hand, [laughter] okay? And we make mistakes, but it's not the mistakes that it's not the mistakes that define us, okay? It's how we move on from those mistakes. Bri, you got to listen to me when I tell you that. Okay? It's not the mistakes that define us. It's how we move on from those mistakes. >> Then I'm going to jail. >> I need to talk to my dad. Hey, >> let me just ask the one one quick question, >> okay? Why did it happen? >> Bri, just just tell us why it happened. That's >> why they just arrest him. >> I don't know. [gasps] >> When When did he call the cops again? [laughter and gasps] Why did it go down? [sighs] [snorts] >> Bri, we can understand. This is really really hard right now. >> I need I need I don't want to answer any more questions. I have to talk to my dad. >> Before we let you call our dad, can we give you just a little bit of information so you understand how important it is that we get your statement? No. >> [snorts] >> He was on the phone with 911 when this happened. >> Okay. So, we have an audio recording of when this happened and what was going on. Okay. Right now, that's the main information that we have is what's on that recording. I just want to tell something. >> That's why we're asking you and need to be you to be really clear about what was going on on the other side of that recording. >> I told you. >> So, what was he doing? You said something about him. You thought he was going to kill thought he was going to kill you. What made you think that? >> The only thing I got to talk to my dad. >> I know. The only thing that we have on that recording is your husband talking to our dispatch saying that you locked him in the garage. >> Your husband is calm. >> I got to lock him in the garage. >> Okay. And then the second later, the door opens. One shot goes off. He tells our dispatch, "She just shot me." About five more seconds go by and three more shots go off. Okay, that's that is very important information, but we only have we can only see so much of it. >> It was me. >> What was you? >> I shot him. I >> I told you. >> What was he doing? >> You said he made him do this [clears throat] >> towards me. No, >> I didn't say that. And I don't want to answer any more questions. cuz I want to talk to my dad. My [laughter] kids don't have any parents. [gasps] >> DCF is going to be talking to your dad, Bri. >> Okay. >> I want to talk to him. >> I know you do, but DCF is already involved in all that. Okay. [snorts] Okay. They're already doing all that. I >> need a lawyer. Okay. >> Do you know your dad's number memorized? [clears throat] >> Just our house phone number. >> Go ahead, bud. >> Be on scene. >> No, I think dad lives not around here. >> Where does he live? >> New York. >> New York. >> Do you know his number? You don't You don't know his number? >> I know [snorts] his house number is live on. >> What is it? Um, okay. All right. We will go ahead and end the uh interview there. Since you'd like to speak with your lawyer, >> get your phone. Okay. >> Before the recording came out, the interview changed tactics. The open question stopped. In their place came explanations. Offered readymade, an accident, a mistake, things getting out of hand. Each one gives a subject a way to describe the act while lowering what it says about her. That is a deliberate pressure strategy and it produced nothing. She did not accept a single version. She answered the question of why with a question of her own. Why the police had not taken him away. Only then did the detectives play their strongest card. And notice when. Not at the start. when it could have shaped her story, not in the middle. They held it until she had told them she did not want to answer any more questions. And they introduced it as a reason she should keep going. What the recording describes is not a confrontation. It is a sequence. A calm caller saying he has been locked in the garage. The door opening. One shot. She just shot me. Then a gap of seconds and three more. Her account had been built around a struggle at a doorway that happened too fast to count. The recording puts a pause in the middle of it. Her response is the most important concession of the night and also its limit. It was me settles who fired. It does not answer why. And when they press for that, she asks for a lawyer. And the questioning stops. >> You know, if I see your watch real quick, you know, if I see your watch real quick, you can take it off for you. Why? >> I just got to see it. >> For what? >> Cuz we're we're going to we're going to take it. >> Okay. >> You can go and power it down or do whatever, but don't call anybody or make any phone calls. >> All right. >> Sorry. >> You're okay. >> I've got a an actual quilt. Thank you. >> Little mini quilt that I keep in the car. Thank you. You're welcome. A little better. Yeah. He's dead. [gasps] He's dead. My husband is dead. They told me. [sighs] >> I'm sorry. We knew it. >> Hello, >> Daddy. >> Where are you? I did an office. >> You're at the police. >> Yeah. >> At the police station. >> Yeah. >> All right. Um >> I killed it. >> I know you did. I know you. I trying to figure out why [laughter] threatening it or [snorts and gasps] >> the kids okay? >> No, they don't. [laughter and gasps] They don't. Their dad is dead and I'm belong in jail. [laughter] I'm sure I'm going to jail for [laughter] So, are you in now or you're being allowed? Is this a phone call you're allowed? >> Yeah, I said I could call you. Have you obviously it's early. We haven't figured out what the course of action is, but are you going to need a lawyer or are you going to plea? Well, anyway, I'll ask you this later. >> I'm going to take a >> I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. >> I get it. Well, you're not going to know. I mean, this is a just >> [gasps] [gasps] >> We had such a good weekend. He's my best friend. >> Hold on. Speak clearly. No, I'm not here with you. >> I know. >> All right. You have to what? >> You said we had such a good weekend. >> I heard >> my best friend. [sighs and gasps] said you guys had a great weekend, but for some reason Colin started this thing last night with you. I mean, you you obviously didn't put his computer in the dishwasher. We're clear on that, right? He >> He's dead. >> He did, right? >> He's dead. >> Oh, yes, he is. I'm sorry about that. I'm I'm very sorry. >> So, in a suit, he asked if I would come to his office to talk to him. >> And so, the cop brought me here. >> Oh, you're waiting to talk to somebody in their office? >> I I talked to them. >> Oh, you did? Okay. What did you tell them? [snorts] I don't know. So I killed him. >> Well, >> I tried to I [sighs and gasps] >> I tried to help him. >> You tried to help him. I got the kids out of the house and I went back and I tried to help them, but there was just blood >> everywhere. [laughter] >> I guess you were talking to Eric when this happened. >> Is he okay? He he is. He's shook up though, as you can imagine, as we all are. not as much as you are, but everybody's just trying to sort it out. So, just um you know, just obviously you don't want to think about it, but you got to you've already you've already spoken to the district attorney and what was just a question about what happened? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was it a short conversation or did you did you [snorts] wave your rights to an attorney? Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Fair enough. >> You think I need one, though? >> Well, you may or you may not, but typically people do in these cases. I mean, I got to believe there was a reason it happened. Typically, don't go around shooting people without a reason. He threatening you or in the middle of an argument. Eric seemed to think he sounded like Colin was mocking you at the time, but I don't I don't know. >> You don't know either. [laughter] >> Well, we're done talking. Is there more to talk you have to talk about? I hear a question. >> Yeah, I know you don't. Yeah, you don't. We didn't. Well, I don't have the answer for this one. This is a big deal. You killed my best friend. >> You did? >> My husband, the father of my kids. >> I just [ __ ] up every I killed him and [ __ ] up everybody else's life. >> Brad is shing on you. >> My dad, I wanted to know if you could talk to him. >> Oh, okay. >> Daddy, the guy's here. >> I'm uh I'm actually I'm I'm Detective Raul. I work for the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office. >> Yes, sir. >> Um, >> my name is Eric Co. I'm her dad, obviously. >> Okay. >> Uh, you know, we've got the details, some of the details. I guess what I need to know is what's the next step as far as these processing goes. To sound heartless, as it is, I just need to know where we're going with this. >> Um, well, it's still it. >> No, I'm charged with sir. Uh well, it's still early in the investigation. Uh I mean, we just received the call just uh just just a few hours ago. We're still on scene uh process. So, not too bad. >> Sure. I'm going to step out cuz I like to give people privacy. So, >> your dad. >> All right. Well, um I'm just trying to crowd. I don't quite know where to go from there. >> So, it sounds like you'll be seeing the jail staff later tonight. If you feel I'm not sure I have plenty of suggestions, but if you feel like you're going to hurt yourself, you better point it out to somebody. All right. >> Yes, [snorts] >> there is a lot. There's light at the end of this tunnel. It's difficult to see at this point, but we got to get through these first few hours. The shock can start to wear off and before you do anything rash. Okay. >> Yeah. >> You're hearing me, right? >> Yes. >> All right. What about >> life is what? >> Laney and JP. [snorts] >> Yeah. You're hearing me right? >> Yes. >> All right. >> What about >> life is what? >> Laney and JP [snorts] >> that I don't know yet. Obviously, they've been taken into some sort of protective services. So, we'll have to start researching that tomorrow. >> Can you guys take care of them >> permanently? >> Until I can have them back for now. just so they're not in a foster home until until something else gets figured out. [snorts] >> Okay. >> All right. My answer was absent as you noticed. I did not say I was going to do that and I don't mean to upset you more with that, but >> I understand. I'm not ready to make What's that? >> I understand. >> No, you don't understand. But uh David, you know, I'm really pissed right now, Bri. I'm I'm very mad at you. I know you're going through a terrible thing. Well, jeez, it's it's so uncharacteristic. Why did you go through the Why did you grab a gun? Did you feel Was he going to hurt you? >> Um What's wrong? >> I don't know. [snorts] >> Okay. They're good. Later tonight or tomorrow morning after the investigation has reached a certain point, they're going to charge you with something. You know that obviously. >> Yeah. And whether they deem you, whether they decide you need a secure medical facility or a jail, some sort of holding cell, you know, a jail is going to be, it sounded like the sheriff said, depending on what you tell the jail staff. >> Okay? >> You know, when you're heading [clears throat] when you're being admitted, >> you're going to have to tell them something one way or the other. All right. Well, when they offer you a public defender, agree. Take the public defender, a lawyer, until we can at least figure out a better way of going. Okay. >> Okay. >> This way of a point of contact so you have a representative, someone we can call and get questions asked. >> Okay. >> All right. I don't know if it's worse that he's dead or that I killed him. [gasps] [sighs] [snorts] All right. Well, let's focus on the things that Kylie's okay. She's with Hardy and the kids are okay and we will start seeing what we can do as far as you know getting them in a better situation. All right. >> Okay. >> All right. I will talk to you tomorrow morning. >> Love you. >> As far as I know, I love you, too. All right. >> Bye. >> Bye. Just check my Looks like you're all done. Do you have you said you wanted a lawyer, so I'm not going to ask you any more questions about the case. Um, do you have any questions? If so, I'll try to answer them. No, we are going to be charged. Okay. [clears throat] Um for the death of your husband. Okay. Um and uh we'll go from there. Okay, so let me go grab the uh dead >> was charged with first-degree murder and the death of Colin Turner. She was held without bond for three years. At trial, her defense argued self-defense and battered spouse syndrome, telling the jury she had been abused by her husband. The prosecution pointed to the third 911 call. On September 27th, 2024, a Santa Rosa County jury found Brie Cune guilty of firstdegree premeditated murder. Under Florida law, that conviction carries a mandatory life sentence. The state did not seek the death penalty, and Judge James Duncan sentenced her to life in prison without the possibility of parole. She appealed. On April 2nd, 2026, Florida's First District Court of Appeal affirmed her conviction and sentence.
