every year over 100 officers from
throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan
area go out and spend a day with over
100 children this is this is my first
year doing cops for kids I'm looking
forward to
it when I wasn't a police officer you
know I'd hear about it and I thought
well that's a pretty cool thing uh that
APD and the other agencies do the
officers start the day off by having a
briefing we then go out pick up our
children meet their families we then go
have breakfast we then go to an area
Walmart where each kid gets a $100 gift
card in which they can go out and buy
presents for themselves and the rest of
their family what I like most about cops
for kids is seeing the kids just happy
smiling little boy had miles was so
excited just to have his car he wanted
to go home right away and just go play
with it um it's just cool to see all
that hi my name is Tyler I'm the general
manager of the golden Corral here on
Kors and quail um we've been
participating in uh cops for kids for
about 5 years now it's something we
actually try and help them to raise
money for the kids too we do a few
celebrity server nights with the police
in here not about the food it's about
the experience it's a good thing to do
we're just seeing the the the kids happy
kids we're going to continue to
participate in the

future

then when we go to Walmart that
everything's waiting ready for us Santa
is going to come in Santa always visits
the kids comes in Via helicopter we have
a very long traffic Route in which all
the police cars line up and it's a
pretty great sight to see over 100
police cars with lights and siren and we
got to make sure that all 100 cars get
from location to location without
causing any problems and that is always
quite a

we then go to the movie theater where we
have hot dogs popcorn and coke get to
see a movie and then take the kids back
what I like most about cops for kids is
just the the seeing that people come in
and happy knowing that those kids don't
get experiences like this very often and
just watching them ride in into the
parking lot with Sirens wearing and
seeing just the Joy on their faces it
brightens my day that's why I work it
every year uh every year we uh donate uh
kids packs which is a candy a popcorn
and a drink um for the kids and the
officers and uh also Bob's Burgers
donates hot dogs as well for it so they
have an all-around good movie
experience
[Applause]
we're always looking for people to help
us with this great event and it takes a
lot of money to put this on anybody
who's interested in helping sponsor this
event can contact the Albuquerque Police
Department through Crime Stoppers and
would be willing to to work with an
individual business to make sure that we
can continue to provide this great
opportunity to these kids and their

families
