okay uh I was hoping to speak to you about the crash you witnessed last night okay you can okay uh can you tell me what happened um yes um I was at about it was about 11 I guess it was about 11:45 okay um I was traveling I was traveling west on on univers um when I was traveling West University um I want to make a right turn to 13th Street okay well the arrow well the uh a sign was indicating that I could not turn right so I kind of just start you know at a fan field I seen a lady and the uh and the I seen a lady about to attempt to cross the road uh she started crossing the road because the light was still the light was still uh the light was still uh allowing her to walk across when but it was raining and everything so she was trying to hurry up and just Trot across the crosswalk um she kind of veered over into 13 Street a little bit okay um the car it was a car traveling north on 13th Street okay um it kind of you know the light turned red I mean turned yellow and the car kind of sped through the light and came in contact and hit the and hit the lady um I I call 911 myself um I was on the phone with 911 to the pyramid got there um I did not touch the victim um I don't know what kind of injury she he received or anything like that um I gave statement um and that was about it okay the the the young lady was she traveling towards the hotel or towards campus when she was walking she was traveling towards the hotel toward yes ma okay um did you see if it stayed on scene or stopped or did it flee the scene see that's the thing Sergeant Val I thought it was going to stop because it went up on 13th Street and when it came in contact with the victim and then it turned right like in public like it was G to you know come back and check on the victim but it kind of just like like Dam like turned right are you talking like where the Publix is or further north turn in public like it was like it was turned in public okay so you you assumed at that point that maybe it was going to turn around or park in Publix and come walk back down or do something yes ma'am okay um I appreciate you taking my phone call I'm just kind of following up on the investigation cuz Unfortunately The Pedestrian got seriously hurt so we're kind of following up with it yeah she okay I wanted to know if she was okay or she had anything broken or anything like that um she's still what we consider uh with life-threatening injuries so she's kind of on a day-to-day status right now oh my God yeah she got it hit her pretty hard the car was going about 50 mil hour ma' okay and you said it was kind of speeding up trying to make the light yes ma' trying to hurry up and get through the light so the light had turned yellow okay and It sped up to get through the light and then it came in contact with with the uh with the victim um I called 911 um I protected the area paramedics got there on scene um I thought that she would have been not okay but At first she was unconscious but then she came too and then she was trying to get up about okay I like no I was like no no no you need to stay down you need to stay down when the paramedics got there they got her up and she walked over to the gourney and sat on the G okay um you mentioned it was raining can you describe it was it a light rain was it a heavy rain it it was like a medium rain it wasn't really heavy heavy okay like to the point where you had to pull over your car it was Heavy enough to have the windshield wipers on kind of not not full blast but you know right before full blast so okay it was raining pretty good all right wa you going that real bad real hard the going pry I got you man right here what's hurting you right now you're okay what's hurting you right she's got blood coming out [Applause] everywh okay okay my name is the real we got enough on scene everybody else P you guys see the crash I seen the crash crash over here i' seen I seen everything where were you where were you at bro right there at the light okay which one's your car my car with my so what kind of car it look like it was a 10 um sedan um it was a hidden run I thought he was going to stop what kind what kind of car was it oh I don't know what kind of car was probably was a probably was a Ford Fusion I think it was a fusion it's a small b car four door it's either gold or tan yeah they're saying gold or tan still trying to work on a possibly a for Fusion something simar trying to get further we thought it we thought they was going to pulling there cuz they turned right they turn like they was going in just on the ground over there I assume that's H okay cool thank you yeah yeah the car turned like in public parking lot I thought it was going to you know just you know get out the road and stop but she she when she moved my car she didn't see the car I didn't see the car so it pulled into the public park P the public parking lot okay um we do anything to help her now or yeah she got hit the amb is going to come and help her she got hit really bad in it and she was uh airlifted she went in the air went okay which which way was the car going car was coming north the car was coming you remember which name was in it was uh it was in uh this Lane that lane over here it had to be no either this Lane no it was in this Lane this Lane it was in this Lane and where was she at where was she was crossing the street right here still conscious still breathing was kind of raining she was kind of jogging you know you know to get out the rain and she was trying to cross the street right here she was going from that way over here she was coming this way okay and you know it was raining so she was trying to try out the rain yeah the car the light hadn't turned red light was still yellow so trying to trying to haul ass and get through the light and got through the light and and just hit that lady man hello I was behind this lady here I didn't see nobody get hit um I used to be a police officer and they stopped at the light this is what kind of made me feel from somebody right black man was driving he got out with his cell phone and ran down this way she was a passenger got out through something in a garbage okay then went back in the car to drive I don't know what she threw I didn't see it it's a weird place to throw something on garbage you see what I'm saying yeah you got your you got your on yeah it's just a this odd so was a black guy driver yeah black male driver he had a white tank [Music] top it looked a little funny I used to be a c okay so my cackles on the back of M you know how it is he get don't seem right no I get you uh well they stopped right there at the light and now I'm thinking okay they're waiting for the light well the light changed you're still sitting there and all of a sudden the black guy gets out all right it's a black male wearing a white T-shirt he was driving it was a t-shirt or a tank just tank top t-shirt he he jumped out he went around the front of the car and took a started run down this way he ran this way R ran downwards this way okay um the woman they which light they're at this light right here back way okay yeah the woman got out of the car and got in the drivers well she went to the garage and threw something away okay and to me that looked like she's throwing dope I got we're we're out with her I'm just trying we got the mail outstanding so I'm trying to find the male so the best you got to look at him was a black male I want to look in that garbage C she no yeah we already had officers there um she threw something away yeah I got and then she went back in the car and sat there like she was driving I got you um you definitely saw the black male get out of the driver's side seat absolutely 100% okay he was caring a cell phone he had a cell phone in his hand cell phone in his and that's all you remember was black May with a white tank top black I didn't get a good look at his raining hard yeah okay I wasn't really trying to focus on that I was kind kind of wonder what the hell was going on with the car trying to get around it safely Alpha 6 her my witness he's trying to pull up the stash can now it's pretty blurry the Bravo Mike exited the driver's seat at 13 under West and ran West like towards the standarded okay I'll pull the camera down yeah that makes sense so but 100% black dud like I man probably probably through drugs and yeah I got you no that's we'll deal with that obviously um we're already like I said out with the vehicle and the female we just trying to get out with honestly it looked like to me that they were the that she probably called the cops and and all of a sudden he says I got this I got to get rid of this yeah and then he got out to run she took it in the garbage can right and then she got back in the car that's what it looked like to me well they didn't think about it until they already called 911 for the girl and then they said oh [ __ ] we got this yeah um you have the ID on your partner was there anybody else in the vehicle with you when this happened no it just you in the car yes all right can you tell me what happened back there I know you said you don't really know what happened but well the light had changed to Green and I came across and when I came across I'm not sure I guess I don't know the person what but they went right across in front of my car okay I'm just I'm just coming and and then you left you know what happened and I looked at my windshield and I said no no it had to be I had to hit something and that's why I'm was coming back calling my boyfriend and trying to get back there and say hey I know something happen I'm not a I'm not a person who hit somebody just keep on going on down the road who's your boyfriend yeah okay was he with you no what's Clarence look like um I think I remember him from somewhere I think I remember years ago he was in jail a lot but well no I'm just trying to remember so I'm like trying to put a face with it and he was he was in an accident yeah um back in 21 yeah is he a bigger guy smaller guy no he's U kind of slender slender how tall is he about 6 6t yeah that kind of sounds familiar doive does he have a beard no no no maybe I'm thinking of somebody else call my daughter too he got short hair he's got low half low half cut okay you probably seen yeah are you injured at all because of the accident no I don't feel injured let me put it like that cuz I've been an accident before and I said I wasn't injured and then a few days later I had that why up going to the nurse room and stuff so okay do you want you m to come check you out probably my nerves more than anything I think physically I think I'm okay I'm not they come check me out but well it's up to you if you want them to um if you want them to check your vitals you I'm not sure yes I do because I have high blood pressure and I'm a diabetic and this is not good this is not good for me at all okay well I'm going to have EMS come and at least check your vital okay thank you so Miss Betty it is extremely important that you're 100% honest with me okay yes cuz I have witnesses who saw everything that happened and they said that there was a male in your car that got out of your car no if you're trying to protect your boyfriend I'm telling you this is this is not a time to lie to you okay listen CS call me back right away I was coming from o Kell and that car by myself nobody got the car with me nobody no so I'm just trying to figure out why Witnesses would say I don't know because there was nobody in the car with me and if they if they I guess he's at his apartment if they went to his apartment I'm pretty sure they find that his apartment no there was nobody in the car I don't know why they thought somebody was in the apartment they said somebody got out my car I've been standing here with you since those call notes came in but I don't know who said I it's unbelievable I'm just coming the light turn green I'm coming up baby I'm in Gainesville somebody somebody ran in front of my car and I hit him with my car I don't know I don't know bad they were hurt or whatever but the police is here with me uh and I'm really really upset CL was not with me he was for some reason somebody think he was in my car but he was not with me I tried calling him right now I have a baby get him on the phone but he was not with me I was by myself yeah you he is with me but toight he was not with me okay so I'm going be honest with you and I need you to be honest with me cuz I know you're lying to me already okay no you can you can do that you want to okay that's fine I don't have a reason to lie you're so we already know that a male was driving the car no he got out of where did you all get this from Hey sir you let me talk or you just keep call I in B View Florida okay you know you're about to go to jail for leaving the scene of an accident okay so you can either be honest with me and you don't go to jail today sir I am 73 years old okay I don't have any reason to lie to anybody I was by myself except to protect your boyfriend probably I I can't protect him if he wasn't with me he was not with me okay I live in Lake Butler Florida okay we we're about to pull video of your boyfriend getting out of the car and and swapping seats with you and then once we do that anything you want he was not in the car with me okay I wish he answered his phone I really wish he answered his phone and if somebody go to his apartment they will find him at his apartment where's the apartment at at his sister's where's his apartment at he was not with me no no no he was not with me I have no reason to lie you understand that if we pull this video from a dash camera that was act actively watched the accident yes and you are lying in a case in which serious bodily injury has occurred that you're going to be going to jail for a very long time I'm just I'm just trying to make sure that you understand that because at your age is it worth it to Li it worth I have no reason to lie okay okay oh God why would I lie if he was going to call me all the day I don't believe I really don't believe somebody said they saw somebody get out my car yes and your vehicle has very clearly been involved in a very serious accident in which someone may die tonight I pray to God this is how serious it is I pray to God they don't not I pray to God all guys I pray to God oh God I how many oh what I was going to do oh love oh oh Lord and for somebody a lie why why focus on the wrong thing man why it's not about lying is about lying you focus on the wrong thing I'm worried about the person I I I would never want to hurt anybody anybody that's the main thing we trying to figure out I would never never want to hurt anybody never [Music] ever I've been on accident with my grandsons I would never ever try hurt anybody I've been there if my question to you is is if if you thought you had hit something why would you just like stop and check because there was a car right behind me and when I got down right that light I turned around then I get to a dead end Road and I come back how many places there are to sto between here and University Avenue I was like at least 10 I I was passing at Avenue I came across the light wear oh yeah I know that you're right there in front of pisos I don't know who El I was in I know I came across the light you want to come across the light hello officer gville police department I'm going ask you a couple questions about tonight did they read you your Miranda Rights no they did not no all righty so just because R your mirand rights doesn't mean you're going to jail right I'm just going to ask you some questions about what occurred tonight okay so you have the right to remain silent if you say can it will be held it will be used against you in a court of law you have the right to talk to your lawyer have him present with you you are being questioned if you cannot afford to hire a lawyer won't be appointed to represent you for any questioning if you wish you can decide at any time to exercise these rights not answer any questions or make any statements do you understand your rights you do okay so obviously we're investigating uh a crash that happened down on 13 street can you tell me a little bit about that what you know about it I was I came across the light M and somebody I I guess I don't know what was I don't know something went across my came across the road and hit my windshield at the time I didn't know my windshield was cracked whatever when I got down the road I got to turn around I got to go back because first of all I don't ever want to hurt anybody M and I I enough on TV to know that you need to come back you need to be there if somebody get hit and that's what I was doing coming back okay so why didn't we stop right after the accident because I I just I didn't like I said I didn't really know exactly what happened M but and then it was a car right behind me and when I got down the road I said I got to turn around then I got down a dead end Road and I had to come out of that and when when they when I stopped right there I was calling my boyfriend M which they seem to think was in the car with me there was nobody in the car with me okay nobody so so here's the thing no back there's dash cam video of this happening yes okay and in the dash cam video we see a blackmail and a white tap top get out of the driver's seat of your vehicle that's not true sir it's the so is if you all go to clam Jackson house on his sister house he's there that's my boyfriend I got you that's the only person would have been there was no in my car so so did we fake the footage I don't know who fak there's no way the footage was faken that's nobody getting out my pocket I pulled off can you can you explain this is why can you cuz no one no one faked footage in in the 5 minutes it took for us what footage did you all have showing somebody could have got my car a person has dash cam footage from their car behind your vehicle when the accident happens and they they they see they see two individuals get out two individual get out mhm and the passenger goes around gets in the driver's seat and drives away oh my God sir so so here's here's the thing oh God I need a lawyer because this is all a fabrication this is all a lie I don't have to lie I am 73 years old and that is out of all the nights I can told him you my he is with me but this night he was not with me okay so so here here's here's here's where we're at um the fact is is with with this footage the I'm going to go watch and if I see if I see you getting out of the car and I see I did not get out my car listen to what I'm saying ma'am listen to what I'm saying God you're going to go to jail for for aiding and abetting in a felony crime which is fleeing in a fleeing uh hit and run leaving the scene of an accident with serious batt the injury uh the young lady is seriously injured so I am so sorry I got you well I'm going to look I'm going to look at the dash cam footage I'm going talk to the offic who watch it and if if I see if I see you get out of your car I see driver you're going to go to jail driver didn't get out my car I got well if the video shows differently then then that's what we're going to have to deal with okay up I don't believe this I really don't believe this so I really don't I mean I I I I I got you I I I don't believe it I just don't believe you okay I have no reason to lie that's that's what get me why why would I have to why am I going to lie about something that obviously I usually usually it's to protect people we care about I cannot I cannot protect somebody who was not with me I got you so it I mean there there's video of the crash so why can't they go and see the Clown's home that's the only person in my life that's my boyfriend that is the only person in my life go and put your foot over for me all right oh just a minute oh yo hey B some Hollywood um so did did you see the footage no that it very he said after like every five videos he clicked through he said it's gone the video's gone because it it already recorded it records in like small intervals and if you don't actively save it right after it records over in like five videos um all he has for me based on what he said was um he didn't see the actual crash he saw the he saw a four-door vehicle doesn't know what color stopped at like uner West 1300 West kind of like stopped blocking traffic he said he saw Bravo might get out of the driver's seat and run um westbound he then saw the Bravo Fox sh get out of the passenger throw something away and then in the trash and return to the driver and then drive off return to the driver's seat correct so if she was initially in passenger the and go into the driver's seat correct and drive the car off Mar Mike took a 10 she threw something away in the trash can and then returned to the drivers where she drove on um all he knows about the Bravo mic was it was Bravo mic with the White Tank off um her I'm about to get ready to do a show up I I got to clarify some things but he should pick up on her um yeah I'm still trying to clarify with his story um just to think his time frame is a little bit off but U yeah that is all I have okay um so did you have I'm sorry did you have somebody go check the trash can you said yeah I had somebody check the trash can um he the one on the corner inos like that yeah that's i c poow checked it um so here's my thing so he didn't see the crash what he did he was he able to identify the vehicle that he saw no not clearly it's not going to be it's not going to be of any use if he even if he he comes over and identifies this lady um I have the car she's saying no one was in the car with her um your incident has been updated she had left so all right yeah I don't think it's going to be worth it man yeah no no no video or anything so um all right I'll go ahead and do it anyway I guess but um it just oh not it's not even wor don't don't don't do a show up I'd rather have more time to investigate than than have someone say this is not her whatever or this is and it's not I I'm well you hear what I'm saying yeah yeah his time frame was a little um that's why I didn't miss to his show because his time frame was a little not time frame but yeah yeah so anyway yeah I I don't think it'll be it'll be necessary we can do um obviously um I'll do do an investigation on this and um she'll probably go to jail for for leaving the scene of an accident with serious battled yeah she said that she was driving back but all right yep all righty so your Prim your primary right yes sir video no video he wasn't even able to see it yeah got you understand what I'm saying though we'll have a conversation ler okay I mean you're not going to like it because I'm right but yeah that's fine go ahead and your yeah there there's a there's a right you you might be but there's a proper way of handling something and a not and I don't like call so just finish up with your investigation all right boss all right so here's the thing I'm going to pull surveillance footage from the area if I see someone get out of your car you're GNA end up getting charged with aing a betting and a felony okay you understand I got you I got you well this is this is your this is your opportunity to tell me before I see it and to explain away why I would see something like that sir I was in the car by myself okay so if I see if I see video footage showing the opposite then then I don't know how show it because I was in the car by myself so why didn't we stop right after the right after the accident I already explained that I'm not going back to that again okay wait you asked for La that's right all right so as of right now if you can go aad and step out of the car for me you first real quick thank you are you arresting me yes yes you under arrest for leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury the felony did you guys get photos yeah I decided him take pictures he's got sear um and um if you guys can do an inventory we're going to tell the car reference evidence did we get a uh a confirmation on thi cuz that's why I didn't want to touch anything so here's the thing I don't know she was conscious in talking she said she had an earbud and she's got a pretty massive clot she's bleed she's bleeding like pretty good I don't I I don't think it's going to be thi it is a severe injury she has a severe head injury well yeah but if we were going to if it was going to be a thi we weren't we would inventory we would just secure it and get a search point for the car later I don't I guess I'm going to call Houston again cuz I called him if he if if he called if they're going to do a thi then yeah if not then I guess I'm just going to stand by with the car until I get a definitive answer I mean push to shove just secure and put it on holding and then yeah but for instance to be because we do it for no reason they have enough sh to do well I will call Houston before I do anything yeah all right watch we're going to walk right up that Green Door go step inside and when you go inside take a step onto that second green square the one that's further away from us and just so you know that your cell phone's going to be seized for the purpos of felon investigation so it's not going to be in your personal items go got medical clearance how you doing today not too badle yeah car accident show that to the nurse when she comes it's going to be felony leaving the scene of a um serious battle injury okay yeah I mean I'll put it a property but I just got to do the half s and stuff lean forward
