today we did a kettlebell workout and uh worked on strengthening or continued the strengthening regiment for the the class uh we're in week four right now and so they're still learning technique uh still building strength obviously uh overall it was a good week of physical training i can see them definitely improving the areas of cardiovascular fitness a little bit of speed a little bit of agility and strength training as well and so pretty happy with the way they progressed in that regard over the weekend they did have a homework assignment i told them they need to take care of their bodies and so a little bit of extra stretching as they don't stiffen up as well as keeping hydrating one of the cornerstones of the strength training program here at the academy is kettlebell training the reason we use kettlebell training is because it's a great way to develop strength and strength endurance a lot of the task specific things that the cadets will do throughout their academy training and even in the field involves what we call functional strength which means using body movements or using their whole body in certain movements some of the benefits of kettlebell training over traditional strength training is that with traditional strength training their body is kind of fixed in a certain posture whereas kettlebell training you use your whole body and so the word functional comes into play in that it translates better into task specific specific things things such as being out in the field you know having to lift heavy objects having to squat down and pick things up as well as using their defensive tactics when that situation arises
