how you do see me I'm [Music] Department oh okay hi the police department we're doing a spry point this season have you had anything to drink where you coming from a little bit just a little you're coming from Santa Fe yeah I you're looking for Sano you can take L all the way s all right be safe have a good evening that was all right I'm Sergeant Zachary cro with with the aler police department I am the DWI Sergeant uh we did set up a checkpoint uh near the intersection of less and Broadway tonight checking eastbound traffic uh during that checkpoint we did check approximately 308 vehicles uh while checking those 308 Vehicles we did arrest 16 people for driving under the influence of alcohol uh we do set up these checkpoints approximately three times a month we do scatter them throughout the city so you never know where you might run into one um tonight we did have approximately 177 people working the checkpoint line checking vehicles I also had six PSAs that do help uh move vehicles from the checkpoint line and also help to those vehicles I had four transport officers that do transport people that are arrested for DWI uh to the jail I also had three safety officers that do assist uh with checking vehicles to ensure that as they come into the checkpoint that they are traveling at a s safe speed and they do um perform traffic stops on any vehicles that do try to avoid the checkpoint uh if they do perform a traffic stop on a vehicle that avoids the checkpoint they do um call one of the officers from the checkpoint line uh to perform that DWI investigation if that person is subsequently arrested for DWI they are uh returned back to the Batmobile for further processing we do bring out the Batmobile to all our DWI checkpoints uh it is equipped with four intoxilizer machines so that we can do all breath testing on site um all officers are equipped with laptops where they are able to complete all their paperwork on site and the Batmobile is also equipped with docking stations and printers so all paperwork can be completed and printed on site uh increasing the efficiency of that officer so they can be released uh to go back to the checkpoint line to help keep traffic Flor at a safe pace and increasing the likelihood that we can detect more people from dag the influence of alcohol and arrest those offenders we did have one offender that was driving uh under the influence of alcohol with approximately 10 or 11-year-old son in the vehicle with him uh we did did have to call that boy's mom to come pick him up uh to get him safely home obviously from this checkpoint uh that person was not only arrested just for DWI but also child abuse since he knowingly put that child's life at risk while driving with him in the vehicle under the influence of alcohol once a subject is arrested for AWI uh their vehicle is towed so that is just another expense that does go along with being arrested for AWI if that person has a prior DWI conviction on their record that vehicle is not only told but it is seized by the city of Albuquerque uh that person is allowed to have a hearing to see whether or not they're going to be able to have that vehicle back um often times the city does keep the vehicles and we do auction off those [Music] vehicles
