Greg Coda deputy chief EMS Chief with sandal County fire department so this is our Station 21 U on Santana peblo our newest station for the county for our career staff and this morning we're doing physical ability testing it's part of a process that we do annually and this helps to make sure that our firefighters can do the job are fit enough to do the job puts them through an endurance and strength testing process which puts them to the limits just the four to five minutes of ladder climb is to test for their fear Heights to make sure they can get up to the top and it's only 75t tall ladder so it's not horrendously High uh they wear a 45lb weight vest and they climb to the top that puts some strain on their legs so it simulates carrying their equipment up the ladder um get to the top safely uh look around make sure they're comfortable with that view and then they descend and then from there we let them get the legs back because it does put a strain on the legs and we go into the physical ability testing itself which encompasses a 5in hose drag which is pull 125 ft and from there they go to the Kaiser tool which simulates uh using an axe to cut through a roof and it moves a a weighted sled a certain distance and after that they pull a 14t ladder out of an engine set it against a pole get into proper positioning take the ladder down re reposition it back in the apparatus after that they go to a dummy drag it's 185lb mannequin with full bunker gear on and they drag it 100 ft uh after that they go to a charge 2 and 1/2 in hose line stretch it out 100 ft and squirt water and then the timing stops for their uh process they are timed from the time they Advance the 5-in hose all the way through to where they squirt water with the 2 and 1/2 in hose [Music] w
