Melissa demonstrated cooperation with police commands, complied with instructions, and remained calm during the conversation. The police also clearly explained about ensuring the safety of her vehicle and assets, helping the process go more smoothly. Okay. So, I get you feel bad now, but there's a there's a little wakeup call for you to stop doing that. Okay. And I I won't get out tonight. No. No, there's no Well, I don't think so, Melissa. I'm not going to divorce or just try to hold it together for your boys, okay? Just own up. Own up to what you did, right? Own up to it. Yeah, you did it, but now you're paying the consequences to whatever you decided to do, and you're going to fix it, right? We're not going to see you shoplifting anymore, right? While in custody, Ivers expressed remorse, claiming that personal difficulties such as divorce and depression contributed to his behavior. However, the police emphasized that she still must bear the legal consequences for her actions. Under New Mexico law, theft is regulated in article 301620 with property values ranging from $500 to $2,500. The offense is classified as a fourthderee felony. Penalties for this felony include a fine of up to $5,000, imprisonment of up to 18 months, or both. In the case of Melissa Ivers, because it was her first offense, she was placed in a prosecution diversion program, an alternative to formal prosecution, which helped her avoid jail time and reduce the risk of reaffending. When people face the pressures of modern life, incidents like this highlight the importance of seeking help and addressing personal issues before they escalate into legal troubles. On March 14th, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., police responded to a 911 call from Mary Higgins stating she was being threatened by a group of people in the store. But what exactly is it? The police had a very hard time even having to use a rope to stabilize her legs and forcibly drag her out. Hello, my name is Sergeant Jackson. Another police officer approached Mary to clarify the situation, but she showed an uncooperative attitude, making the situation more tense. Meanwhile, the police discovered a man had interfered with the arrest process and decided to arrest him. These stories are also reminders that every action has consequences. What occurs when resistance turns into a fierce confrontation with the police? Join us to uncover this dramatic story with unexpected twists. On February 15th, 2023, a road rage incident occurred and was quickly handled by police officers. According to reports, a woman followed and trailed another car into an alley after the other car suddenly break sharply. Upon arrival, she blocked the other car. Police officers promptly arrived at the scene. What? I need your license. What was your reason of stopping me? They called. They have no idea why you got them boxed in. Who does? Okay. Well, you're driving a vehicle. You don't have your seatelt on. I need to identify you. So, they break coming in here. Okay. So, that's the real story, right? It's a brake check, a road rage incident. They were road raging me. So why don't you start with that and tell me that's what happened and that's why we're doing it. You never gave me No, you said you live here and you're acting like you don't know what's going on. Say I live here. Your friend lives here. Exactly. Upon arrival, they approached the woman and requested her driver's license, noting that she was not wearing a seat belt. The woman immediately protested and questioned why she was being stopped, claiming she had done nothing wrong. Okay. Do you have your license on you? I do. May I see it, please? Yeah. But what did I do wrong? You don't have your seatelt on. I unbuckled it to get out to ask her what she was doing. Okay. Well, now you don't have it on. You're behind the wheel of the car. The car is running. So, I need your license. So, you're not going to go and ask the woman with her hazards on license. Let me find it. But how about you find the engine? Come on. Or you're going to pull me out of my Your eyes are kind of jacked up. You're not intoxicated. Are you on drugs? No. You high? No. Nothing. That's against the law. How is it against the law? asked you five times for your license. You have not provided me with your license. And I'm asking you what's the reason of you coming to me. And I've told you that I just pulled up. They have no idea why you're following them. And I'm trying to talk to you. You're trying to explain to me what's going on. Me into my friend's house and we don't know. Check you. Okay. And that's fine, but you're not telling me that. You're acting like you have no idea what's going on. I have your license. Your license. Get your license. But you have no right to open my door. I'm about to arrest you for obstructing. Do not give me your license. I also feel you're inebriated. I feel like you're high or you're drunk. Yeah. The dialogue quickly became tense as the suspect repeatedly refused to provide her driver's license despite being asked multiple times. The situation escalated when the police opened the car door to pull her out, suspecting she might have been using drugs or alcohol. She denied all accusations and claimed her rights were being violated when the police opened her car door without just cause. Can I have your license? Did you prove that? I'm about to. No, you're not. Cuz I'm not. You're not pulling me out of my vehicle. Let's go. You can't come into my vehicle, right? Okay. License and a simple explanation would have all it would have taken for you to just slam my door open. It's all on body one camera. I've asked you 10 times for your license and I didn't get a chance to. Yes. Look. Let's just catch it on your watch. You're in. He's aing [ __ ] and slam me on. Quit messing around. Is it okay? Okay. Just messing with your chain. Your uh I'm taking it off cuz you're hurting me. Ultimately unable to tolerate her behavior any longer, the police decided to arrest her. During the arrest, she began to threaten the officers, declaring that her uncle was also a police officer. Like many others who feel self-important, she insisted she knew her rights well. Have a seat in the car. Losing my cups and I I just checked them. They are fine. They're not. I cannot feel my hands. You're moving your hands. They're not tight. I just checked. All I said was loosen up my cup and I checked them and they are properly put to the ground before you even check anything. You're going to have to see off of me right now. and the suspect clearly resisted when she did not comply with the police's request to enter the patrol car. She repeatedly questioned why she was being arrested and although the officer clearly explained to her the suspect continued to portray herself as the victim, once again accusing the officer of illegally opening her car door and using force without justification. Under Indiana Code 353314, police have the right to open a car door and use force when necessary to arrest a criminal. Officers are permitted to arrest individuals if they commit a felony in the officer's presence or if the officer is reasonable cause to believe that the individual has committed a felony. The precedent set by Graham v. Connor requires the use of force to be evaluated from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene. This means officers can use force if they believe it is necessary to protect themselves or others or to prevent a suspect from escaping. I've been talk to you right now. Yes. Get your leg off me. You're not in the car. I can't close my door. I need the security. I need to do my work. I'm in handcuffs closing my car. Yes. I got to tow your car. I got to do your booking slip. I got to get up to the C. Did you not understand what I told you before? I understood that. Um, this lady said I was following her, but she road rage me and But I see what the they did. You didn't give a I'm not getting in the car until gets here. You don't get to dictate what goes on. I have to go talk to these people so I can move so they can do. You have to put your legs in the car. Mike, can't you come over here and watch her so I can pull her in the car? So he can manhandle me again in the car. I'm not going to manhandle you. I'm asking you to have a seat in the car. I need to shut the door. Okay. Would you please have a seat in the car so I can close the door and I can start doing the paperwork. But I like some fresh air. Have a seat or I'm going to make you stop. It must be said that the police were very patient in persuading the suspect. Despite her constant refusals, the police tried to explain politely and remain calm. However, she remained uncooperative, forcing the police to use additional force to place her into the car. This was only the beginning as her resistance worsened significantly during the journey to jail. Go over here for a moment here. Okay, stay right here, honey. I need you. My warranted barbing. I did nothing. I wasn't even driving the car. I am not licensed. I wasn't even driving the car. It was parked. My friend was in the house. So, I just sat in the car to turn it off. And here he comes walking up asking for my ID. Like, what? So, I go to reach for it. He opens my own door, which is against the law. I know my right. I don't know any of the details on Are you an APD? So, the rights are you don't open someone's door unless you have a a right. Well, you can walk. Come on. We're going to go this way. Okay. You can't go that way. I'm getting my [ __ ] out of my car. They are. We all work for We all We all work. I went to I was at the same academy with I was in the same class. Your uncle with your uncle. I did nothing wrong here. You're under arrest here also. For what? Uh they charged you with obstructing official. I don't It's just a charge. Was I driving? I'm not going anywhere. That's just why I'm holding on to you right now cuz you don't have any hands to brace your Which one? I'm not. You want You want Well, I'm working right now. You are under arrest. For what? A ticket. For what? Well, one, you have a warrant for Barberton, right? And And I was not driving. It's a warrant. Exactly. If the warrant is there, the But I was not driving. I don't know anything about the Is it the warrant for driving? The woman refused to accept her arrest, offering implausible excuses, claiming she had done nothing wrong and wasn't driving. Despite being informed of a prior arrest warrant, she denied all allegations and felt outraged at being pushed and pulled. It took time for the police to subdue her. I didn't do anything. Okay. I've been going around in 360s in here, right? Cuz you guys are a bunch of Oh, now you want to buckle me in that I'm at a stop. But the whole ride You didn't give them I want to get some fresh air. Got some fresh air cuz I just got thrown around and t and you justing didn't buckle me in. You're being very very hostile and you guys are being very shitty and you had no idea what was going on. Hostility. Yeah. No, I know my All right. I'm going to put this over here so you have it. Finally, the woman was charged with obstruction of official business and unlawful detention under Indiana Code 35-44.1-2-2, which includes actions that hinder legal proceedings or investigations. This is typically a level six felony, but can be elevated to a level five felony in more severe cases. Unlawful detention is defined in 354 233 as restricting another person's freedom of movement without legal authority. This offense is usually classified as a level six felony, but can be upgraded depending on the severity of the situation. This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of complying with the law and respecting law enforcement agencies. Obstructing police work and not cooperating not only causes trouble for oneself but can also lead to more severe consequences. Therefore, it is essential for every individual to respect regulations and authorities to maintain public order. You're going to backtrack that [ __ ] All right. Because where do you think that I want to drive? No. All right. So, you're nervous for the Come on. Don't touch me. Touch me. Don't stop. Touch me. Don't stop. Touch me. On April 14th, 2023, police officers observed a pickup truck without a front tire. They quickly initiated a traffic stop after noticing the driver's erratic and dangerous driving behavior. Scott station. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers were met with immediate resistance from the female driver, who was evasive and disoriented, fumbling with her documents. Her responses were incoherent and defensive, raising suspicions about her mental state and alertness. The officers repeatedly questioned her about the condition of the vehicle, but the woman argued and denied the accusations. Hello. Hey. How you doing? Say that again. You're okay? I'm okay. What are you looking for? Just talking. I ask you what are you looking for that I see you. Are you looking for something specific? I don't know. I'm just asking you what you're looking for. No, no, no. There's a tire. There is a rim. There is no tire in the rim. Do you want to step out? The police officers asked the driver to step out of the vehicle to assess her condition and the vehicle's safety, but the woman refused and became increasingly agitated. She challenged the officer's authority, questioned the reason for the stop, and continuously refused to comply with their commands. The situation escalated when she dared them to force her out of the car, prompting the officers to resort to coercive measures. At this point, I'm going to need you to step out of the vehicle. I will not. No, don't. Step out of the vehicle. Unlock the vehicle and step out. What are you looking for? What are you looking for? something. You're right. Ma'am, make me. Ma'am, make me your trunk. Do us a favor and just turn off the engine for I'll turn off the engine. I appreciate that. But you're aing [ __ ] What? What? What am I being pulled over for? I'm going to do a test on you. The woman's refusal to cooperate led to a struggle as the officers attempted to remove her from the truck. She actively resisted shouting and accusing the officers of misconduct despite claiming to know her rights. She violated the law by resisting lawful orders. Her resistant actions included pulling away, clinging to the vehicle, and performing erratic movements to avoid being handcuffed. To drive? No. All right. So, you're nervous. What do you like? Come on. Don't or touch me. Touch me. Don't stop touch me. Don't touch me. No, you don't have a vehicle on North Avenue. You [ __ ] And I just stop resisting. Despite efforts by the police to persuade her to cooperate, the woman refused to get into the car, screaming, resisting vehemently, and accusing the officers of using unnecessary force. What am I being dressed for? What am I being do I do? We don't want to use any force on you. Just step it. Just step it. We just cough you. There is nothing else. I will bite you. I will. Ultimately, the woman was subdued and arrested, facing multiple charges for her actions, including resisting and obstructing police officers under 18 USC 111 with a potential prison sentence of up to 8 years if no serious physical force was involved and up to 20 years if a dangerous weapon was used. Additionally, threatening the life of a police officer violates 18 USC 115 with a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years or 20 years if there was a real intent. An obstruction of justice could be prosecuted under 18 USC 1,5001 to 1521 if it disrupts an investigation or destroys evidence. These actions not only threaten public safety, but also demonstrate a disregard for the law, which could lead to severe penalties under US federal law. This story is a serious reminder of the consequences of not complying with the law and obstructing law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties. Such actions not only threaten public safety, but also endanger the violator themselves. We need to better understand civic responsibility and respect the law to build a safe and fair society. Shouldn't tell me to get out of the car. I will get out of the car, but you're not step out of the car.
