I didn't know where I am. Um but yeah, now. >> 38 is primary on the First Aid call. All units are going to be going out with them. >> Make contact. >> Around 12:32 a.m. on July 13, 2025, Patrolman Michael Gallagher with the Union Beach Police Department was dispatched to Eder's Tavern at 1321 Florence Avenue on a report of an unresponsive female behind the wheel of a car in the parking lot. He arrived on scene around and made contact with a female sitting in the driver's seat of a white 2021 Buick. She was later identified as Lee Gale. >> I spoke with the subject speaking. >> Somebody called her. >> Yeah, are you were just knocked out in the car, so >> I did I sit here I was actually waiting for someone to meet up with me. I fell asleep. I didn't even go in I didn't like drink or anything. >> Okay. >> I came from near where I work. Um so I was just hanging out waiting. And I just fell asleep but yes now I I'm sorry. >> Okay. Can I I just got to get your name? >> Of course. >> Date of birth? Okay. >> Okay. >> When I came over she was just sleeping. >> Yeah I did I did not wake her up. I was in the car. >> Okay. Come back. All right. >> Hey hey hey hey. >> Yeah I'll be right with you. He awakened Lee. And she seemed shocked to find that the police had been called. Witnesses told the officers that she had been asleep behind the wheel for about an hour. Additional officers arrived on scene shortly afterwards. Since she was in physical control of the vehicle Lee was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. >> I came up and she her head was all the way back. All the way back actually. >> She was not driving. >> I just If if she's got the keys in the ignition take her out for for testing. >> All right. She they I don't One of them said she's been here for an hour just sitting here. What? Yeah. I didn't smell nothing. She said she was pulling up to meet a friend she never went to. >> Oh, sorry. >> That's a little That's a little 4 and 1/2 >> I I Yeah. >> Uh turn your lights off real quick. >> No, we're just They were worried about you. I get it. You know what I mean? >> Turn them off. Uh there's AJ. AJ, can I unlock your car? Unlock your car, AJ. Back over here. My partner's just going to uh put you through a test, ask you a couple questions. >> So, did you drink anything today? >> No. >> No. All right. Yeah, that's perfect. >> Just need your hands. >> All right. Just so just because the circumstances you're in a bar parking lot, I'm just going to check. Uh first test is your eyes. Do you have anything wrong with your eyes I should know about medically or anything? >> I mean I do have a like a I like a lazy eye basically. >> Okay. >> Doesn't really show up unless you know >> Okay. >> It may I don't know. I just mentioned it. >> No problem. Um so what I want you to do is Turn this off. So So what you to do is you're going to follow Don't look at the light at all. >> Okay. >> Can you see my fingertip? >> I can. >> I want you to follow my fingertip with your eyes and your eyes only. Don't move your head, all right? >> Absolutely. >> Try not to move your head. >> Sorry. >> You're good. Try to keep your head still. You're good. Keep looking at my finger. Don't Don't look away from my finger, all right? >> I'm sorry. >> It's all right. Try to keep your head still. >> I'm I'm really trying. I swear to god. >> I know. I know. Just try to keep your head still. Try to keep your head straight, all right? >> I'm trying. I Yeah. >> I know. Just try to keep your head straight. >> It It's this side. I don't know if that, you know. >> Try to keep your head straight. >> The The The You know, the the peripheral's not the same with this eye. >> I got you. I got you. No problem. Try to keep your head straight. It's only going to work if you keep your head straight, all right? >> No, I I did I'm I'm like I'm really >> It's all right. It's all >> Sorry. >> Try to keep your head straight. Now, just keep your head straight still. Just keep following Can you my finger still? >> I can. >> All right. Just keep following it. So, keep your eyes straight. You're all right. You're all right. All right. For next series of tests, do you have anything wrong with your balance, hips, knees, ankles? >> Not that I know of. >> All right. So, we don't have any straight lines here, but I want you to imagine a straight line, all right? So, for right now, I want you to put your right heel to your left toe, hands at your side. Heel to toe. >> Okay. >> Hands at your side. Try to get your like heel right to the toe. >> Excuse me. You're going to count out loud the entire time looking at your feet. When you get to that ninth step, you're going to take a series of small steps to turn around, walk nine heel to toe steps back. Remember, all while looking at your feet, hands at your side, count them out loud. I'm going to demonstrate real quick. I'm only going to go to three steps. I'm not going to do the full nine, all right? So, you're going to go one, two, three, all the way to nine. Take a series of small steps. >> I'm just going to stay where you're sitting cuz it's like more uneven. Is that Is that's okay if I can start from where you did? >> Yes. Just go back to the starting position. >> Yes. Okay. >> Heel to toe. You're not heel to toe. Yeah. So, then like I said, you're going to come back one to nine. All right? You're not All right, hands at your side. Now you're going to go nine steps, counting out loud, staring at your feet. Hit that nine step, take a series of small steps, turn back. Nine steps heel to toe, walking back. All while staring at your feet, counting out loud. Do you have any questions? >> I do not. >> All right, go ahead. >> So, one two three four five six seven eight nine Okay, turn around. one two three four five six seven eight nine >> All right. Next what I want you to do is going to be a one-legged stand, all right? So, with the one-legged stand you're going to pick any leg of your choice, all right? I I'm not telling you which one to pick. Could be your left, could be your right, whatever you feel better with. >> I'm right-footed, so I'll >> All you're going to do, hands at your side, you're going to pick your foot up about 6 in off the ground. >> Okay. >> You're going to stare at it, right? >> All right. >> And you're going to count out loud, hands at your side, and you're going to count out loud till I tell you to stop. All right, so you're just going to go one, two >> Okay. >> So, you don't have to do it yet. >> I would do I would yeah, I would do it for 30 seconds, okay. >> two, three until I tell you to stop, all right? >> All right. >> So, when I tell you to go, put your foot down. When I tell you to go, you can go, all right? >> Okay. >> Just give me 1 second. And begin. >> one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 11 12 This is not easy for anyone. 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 >> Keep going. >> I got to 20. 20 21. >> 22 23 24 25 Like I have good balance, but this is not, you know. >> You can stop. >> Okay, thank you. >> All right, so >> Her poor performance on the field sobriety exercises confirmed the officer's suspicion of impairment. And she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John's Law.
