all right we know that power corrupts an absolute power corrupts absolutely but what if you give that absolute power military equipment and drones that can kill people this is from originally from the New York slimes the New York Times excuse me San Francisco supervisors vote to allow police to deploy robots that kill supervisors in San Francisco voted Tuesday to Grant City police the power to use potentially lethal remote control robots in emergency situations guys this is only going to be used for an emergency that's it we'll never roll these lethal drones out these lethal robots any other time we promise you have our work we're the police department would we ever lie to you no we wouldn't do that following an emotionally charged debate that reflected divisions on the politically liberal board over support for law enforcement the vote was eight to three with the majority agreeing to Grant police the option despite strong opposition for zip from civil liberties and police oversight groups so you got a whole bunch of people saying no I don't think it's a good idea to give the police this kind of power where they're going to have now they're going to have lethal robots and guys it's not going to be the robots killing people it's going to be people who are Manning the robots that are killing people it's just it's kind of like you know drones in Afghanistan aren't killing people it's the Drone pilots in Afghanistan who turn their minds off they suspend their critical thinking they just become order followers and they just conform to what the higher ups tell them to do hey push that button take our word for it this is an Insurgent right here and we got to get rid of them okay Sarge we'll do it opponents said the authority would lead to the further militarization of a police force already too aggressive with poor and minority communities they're too aggressive with everyone like I've said time and time again the problem in police departments is not racism it's authoritarianism when power goes to their head and they start power tripping we're all in danger we all got to watch out for each other not just for the minorities but everybody supervisor Connie Chan a member of the committee that forwarded the proposal to the full board said that she understood concerns over use of force but that quote according to state law we are required to approve the use of these equipments and we know that's what they're going to do they're going to go through the chain of command they're going to get their warrants but we'll get the approval from higher-ups don't worry this power will never be abused so here we are and it's definitely not an easy discussion the San Francisco Police Department said it does not have pre-armed robots and has no plan to arm robots with guns we're not going to do that guys why would we do that you know that anytime we tell you we're not going to do something we don't do it every time we tell you we are going to do something we do it you can trust us but the department could deploy robots equipped with explosive charges quote to contact incapacitate or disorient a violent armed or dangerous suspect when lives are at stake we're only going to do it and lives are at stake this is to keep the peace we are public servants we're here to protect and serve not not protect and serve ourselves we're not going to use these things to harass and further collect from people you know cops are constantly telling the public how fearful they were that they were going to lose their lives I thought he had a gun I thought my life was in Jeopardy my life flashed before my eyes and the most important thing when I clock in is that I go home and if it takes me deploying all the resources of the state to make sure that I back up upon backup by golly I'm going home remember that's the most important goal of a police officer she said quote robots equipped in this manner would only be used in extreme circumstances to save or prevent further loss of innocent lives remember back in 1985 where they dropped that Satchel bomb in Philadelphia remember that here's what it looked like here's here's what the explosion did right here says on the evening of May 13 1985 long-standing tensions between move a black liberation group and the Philadelphia Police Department erupted horrifically that night the city of Philadelphia dropped a satchel bomb a demolition device typically used in combat at least with tovex and C4 explosives On The Move Organization they dropped in on this whole city block guys who were living in a West Philadelphia row home known to be occupied by men women and children hey do you think we should drop that Satchel bomb Sarge with that C4 and tovex explosives well I think that's a good idea Billy go ahead and drop it from the nearest helicopter and went up in unextinguished Flames 11 people were killed including five children and the founder of the organization 61 homes were destroyed and more than 250 citizens were left homeless that's the Philadelphia Police Department so of course we want the San Francisco Police Department to have robots with lethal capabilities why wouldn't we supervisors amended The Proposal Tuesday to specify that officers could deploy robots only after using alternative force or de-escalation tactics and we know how good local police departments are at de-escalating especially when they see a guy on a street corner a public sidewalk with a camera they are really good at de-escalating then man they go ballistic or concluding that they would not be able to subdue the suspect through those alternative means only a limited number of high-ranking officers could ever authorize the use of these robots as deadly a deadly force option San Francisco police currently have a dozen functioning ground robots used to assess bombs or as I in eyes and low visibility situations the department says they were acquired between 2010 2017 and not once have they been used to deliver an explosive device police officials said we believe you police officials be authoritized the officials that oversee this whole thing they told us okay we believe you yeah you've never used them of course and you never plan to use them right but explicit authorization was required after a new California law went into effect this year requiring police and Sheriff's departments to inventory military-grade equipment and seek approval for its use it's alarming to know that they have military-grade equipment to inventory the state law was authored last year by San Francisco county attorney David Chio while he was an assembly member it was aimed at giving the public a forum and a voice in the acquisition and use of military-grade weapons that have a negative effect on communities according to the legislation a federal program has long dispensed grenade launchers camouflage uniforms bayonets armored vehicles and other Surplus military equipment to help local law enforcement but you can't have them they'll barely allow you in certain places to have you know just a small pile of ammunition and a handgun they don't want you to have fully automatics they're freaking out about the black scary AR-15 assault rifles that should only be used on the battlefield but they can have Surplus military equipment grenade launchers camouflage uniforms band that's armored vehicles but you can't have an armored vehicle ah I wonder why that is the right to keep and bear arms is there a limitation on the arms that you can keep and bear shall not be infringed isn't it an infringement when they create a law that says you can't have that weapon Weapon X weapon y weapon Z you can't have fully automatics you can't have they don't want you to have semi-automatics they want to ban AR-15s and AK-47s hell yes as beta male O'Rourke these people are lunatics in 2017 then president Trump signed an order Reviving The Pentagon program after his predecessor President Obama curtailed it in 2015. so basically Trump says you know Obama's like you know I don't think we should we need to get rid of the grenade launch and we don't need to militarized equipment and Trump no that's nonsense we need to put all the military grade equipment we can on the streets of our cities to keep them safe we need to empower local police departments okay it's a beautiful thing to have a grenade launch in the city of Philadelphia all the Satchel bombs you want they're never going to use that recklessly and kill a whole bunch of people in apartment complex row homes okay triggering part by outrage over the use of military gear during protests in Ferguson Missouri after the shooting death of you know who that you can't mention if you're a certain YouTube channel the police said late Tuesday that no robots were obtained from military surplus but some were purchased with Federal grant money okay so now we know when the states get and the local police departments get Federal grant money now the feds can speak into that local police department and tell them what to do that's why when you see these mass shootings who moves in every single time 100 of the time the FBI the CIA you know they're just crawling with beds move over FBI's got this handled no problem like many places around the U.S San Francisco is trying to balance Public Safety with treasured civil rights such as privacy and the ability to live free of excessive police oversight in September supervisors agreed to a trial run allowing police to access private surveillance camera feeds in real time in certain it's only certain circumstances in certain circumstances basically they're saying we reserve the right to spend the Fourth Amendment right to for you to be secure in your person's houses papers and effects for you to be anonymous so we're gonna we're gonna actually uh spy on you using private surveillance cameras and don't worry it's approved by the higher ups it's completely it's completely fine that we're trampling the Constitution we don't care and you shouldn't either debate on Tuesday ran for more than two hours with members on each side accusing the other Reckless fear-mongering supervisor Raphael mandelman who voted in favor of the policy authorization said that he was troubled by rhetoric painting the police department as untrustworthy police departments untrustworthy and dangerous you've got to be kidding come on where in the history of mankind have police departments been untrustworthy and dangerous I've never heard of it he says I think there's larger questions raised when progressives and Progressive policies start looking to the public like they're anti-police I think that it's bad for progressives I think it's bad for this Board of Supervisors I think it's bad for Democrats nationally even though it's uh oh I don't know it's probably true board president Shaman Walton who voted against the proposal pushed back saying that it made him not anti-police but Pro people of color let's just drop this let's drop this race thing if you're for Freedom it doesn't matter you're for freedom for majorities you're for freedom for minorities you're for freedom of black people white people Hispanic people Asian people it doesn't matter this whole thing is about freedom we continually are being asked to do things in the name of increasing weaponry and opportunities for negative interaction between the police department and people of color he said this is just one of those things the San Francisco Public Defender's Office sent a letter Monday to the board saying that granting police quote the ability to commit kill community members remotely goes against the city's Progressive values how about it goes against humanity again the thing that I said at the very beginning of this video power corrupts an absolute power corrupts absolutely how much worse is it if you have a corrupt power hungry police department now in control of remote robots that have the ability to kill citizens like that oh blame it on the robot hey it must have been a malfunction the office wanted the board to reinstate language barring police from using robots against any person in an active Force on the other side of the San Francisco Bay the Oakland Police Department dropped a similar proposal after public backlash well good for them good for them and check this last paragraph out the first time a robot was used to deliver explosives in the US was in 2016 when the Dallas Police Department sent an armed robot that killed a hold up sniper who had slain five officers in an ambush Ambush which still used as justification for C look how good it is this guy killed five officers in an ambush so he had to be taken out so we had to use a robot look this is our justification to get this out in the street so we can use this thing against people this is crazy business stuff that's going on is absolutely loony and one of the last things you want to do is give people who already have power who already drunk on their own authority even more power even more lethal Force even more military equipment if you guys haven't done so already
