[Music] [Applause] get out of my face [Music] okay [Music] [Applause] [Music] well without cops who would tase torture and arrest a high school band director in front of his high school band let's take a look thanks get out of my face [Music] okay hey did you hear what the cop said he said I got my troops and they're gonna sweep their blank out okay what's going on here is there's this is a football game it's 18 minutes after the football game ended and this this guy this Johnny Mims who's the director for this High School band has been basically contracted or promised that he would play a couple Tunes after the game ended that's what he's doing right here the cops are trying to get up there to tell him to be quiet because you know you gotta obey the cops command no matter what I got a job to do it and you need to make sure you got one job and that's to comply boy [Music] [Applause] [Music] you already said we're fixing to go this is our last song just take a chill pill wait till we finish this song and we're out of here there's no need for Force there's no need for violence and state-funded brutality just get out of my face let me get my job done you will go to jail let's go [Music] [Music] will not comply [Music] [Applause] let's go let's go [Music] Sergeant says put him in handcuffs it's hard to hear because the music and the audio is real low okay we're done but that's not good enough for the cops not good enough [Applause] I'm gonna fast forward to this little scuffle right here kids getting super upset about this whole thing and of course the officers got a dog pile now I'm not going to show the actual tasing but here's Johnny mim's side of the story first of all I'd like to thank you guys for being here today if you give me opportunity as an educator to give my side of a story on Thursday September 14th we were preparing for just a normal day a normal football game is what we normally do we prepare three days a week for our football games I was traveling over to Jackson Olden High School uh with the group about 100 by the way they ended up arresting Johnny Mims for disorderly conduct physical harassment and resisting arrest he ended up going to jail that night 145 students with a uh with a chaperones and uh with uh staff we're preparing for the game as we would normally do we came in and played the band sounded amazing as as is expected from our Stellar students and then towards the end of the game the director from Jacksonville High School came over to set up a coordination of playing a few Tunes after the game which you agreed upon would do two to three tunes and it will establish that we would do three Tunes at that point and so there was an agreement but the cops didn't know there was agreement because cops don't really excel at asking questions and doing really investigative type work they're just there to escalate the situation and they're there to put their hands on somebody and show them what for because they're the law so we followed suit and so it brings all of the question of what happened in this situation which should never have happened to me or to the students or to the parents who have to even see and again most important thing I want everybody to know that I was just doing my job as an educator instructing the band that's what the cops say hey I'm just doing my job I don't write the laws I just Implement them and I enforce them because government is not eloquent it's not reason it's forced and like fire it's a dangerous servant a fearful master we're just doing our jobs I allowed a band to play and again to celebrating the the achievements of our football team uh cheerleader Squad and our Band program they're things that happen in that game should have never happened the students should have never seen me tase those things should have never happened yeah because think of the Lasting Impression those cops if they just thought for a second okay you know what just let's let him finish this song we don't want to you know we got a bad rap in our community anyway people think we're out there brutally advising people and it's actually true but you know this time why don't we do something different why don't we leave a good taste in the mouth of the young people in the community instead they couldn't do it they couldn't restrain themselves they couldn't exercise a little bit of self-discipline and self-restraint and turn out looking like the good guys nope they just had to go Hands-On they had to deploy the tasers I was not trying to be defiant uh to the police department again I was just trying to do my job which was pretty actually he was and that's okay you can clearly see it from the video it's like get the F out of my face I'm doing this I don't care what you have to say it was Defiance and that's good it's righteous Defiance in the face of tyranny no problem with that established uh before the end of the game and so I think it's important for everybody to know that it was coordinated is something that is uh customary uh to a bands and again we want to make sure that everybody doesn't lose sight of the students will call it in this it's very important to understand also that the lights were cut off towards the end of that that was performing those tunes and so that further made it more difficult for us to be able to move the students out of the stadium in an oily fashion way because more importantly we have to always be careful to make sure that we consider the students and make sure that they're safe entering and out of a stadium and so uh that's the uh account of what happened at the game it's very unfortunate I should have never been a taste it was excessive and I think that should have no Educators should ever have their experience that but I definitely don't want us to ever lose sight of the students who were caught in the middle of this they are the most important thing in this situation all right here's another news show right here you're looking at body camera footage after the Jackson Olin and minor High School's football game last week a Birmingham police tell us officers asked Johnny Mims multiple times to stop the ban from playing because the game was over you can hear the band director telling one officer to get out of his face several times once the band is done things escalate officers try to handcuff memes he gets tased three times during this process three times man deploying your taser three times last I checked the base cost for a taser cartridge is 337 dollars and they deployed three of them on Johnny Mims a man who wasn't committing a crime he wasn't harming anybody he wasn't threatening to harm anybody he wasn't damaging property he was just there as a band director in a High School stadium leading his group of musicians as agreed on by somebody else and the faculty but the cops just couldn't have that they just had to bring their bucket of cold water in because you gotta obey you got to comply with the authority that's what we got the 15 000 hour public pool system for is that they can teach you to be cookie cutter compliant slaves that's what they're here for and remember after that that point because I was so stunned and uh so bad but all I remember is hearing all of my students uh screaming all of the parents crying I mean it was it was a horrified situation and I I just hate to even have to keep talking about it a Jefferson County School leaders tell us they watched the video before BPD released it to the public superintendent Walter gonselin says his initial reaction to the incident was sadness he even shared this uh statement with us in regards to the students and I want to read it verbatim it says it's extremely upsetting to me that our students our children had to witness that scene so basically they walked up to this guy as though he was a criminal and then charged him with three crimes of disorderly conduct physical harassment and resisting arrest the guy who had done nothing wrong and they added insult to injury by doing it in front of a whole bunch of people they're gonna those kids are gonna remember that for the rest of their lives and what do you think their view of law enforcement especially Birmingham police is going to be Birmingham police came out with this little press briefing right here and I think because of public pressure they had to release the body cam sooner than they otherwise would have but yeah it's pretty shocking what I will do is I will leave a link to the video so you can actually see the tasing I'm not going to show it here it's really not necessary but if you want to see it the link will be in the description of the pin comment leave your thoughts what do you think should have been done do you think this band director upon being approached by police should have just complied and said hey okay guys pack it in we're going home because the authoritizer here and they say we should shut up do you think he did the right thing do you think he was disrespectful do you think that he stood toe-to-toe with tyranny and tyranny didn't like it what what do you think should have been done what do you think the outcome would benefit it had gone the way you think it should have gone leave your thoughts about this for the world and the global thought please in the comments section below if you
