You go to University of Iowa? Yeah. You do? What's your major? Business. Business. What's your name? Juan. Juan, what's your name is? Jose. Jose. Jose, what's your last name? Juan. Juan, who am I talking to? I won't tell you that. Huh? I won't tell you that. Okay. How old are you? 21. All right. What is hazing? Do you got an ID or anything to prove I think it's fake. Huh? I think it's fake. You think it's fake? You think it's fake or you know it's fake? Is anyone in here that needs medical attention? Is anyone here that is against their will? Is there anyone here who is not participating in this? Is you got to see it from my perspective. What the [ __ ] did I just walk into? All right, as stupid as they are, if you're not free to participate in hazing rituals, you're not free. In case you don't know what hazing is, if you want to join a fraternity or a club, you agree to being humiliated, degraded, embarrassed, harassed, or even being endangered, but it's your choice. You want to get into the club, so you're going to jump through the hoops. It basically creates a power imbalance between current members and newcomers who want to become members. And because we live in the land of the free, home of the slave, not the land of the free, home of the brave, hazing is illegal in 44 out of the 50 states. So, this is from the YouTube channel Crime Piece, and we're at the University of Iowa. Police arrive at the Alpha Delta 5 fraternity house, along with the fire department to investigate a fire alarm that went off. They immediately went to the basement level where the fire alarm was triggered, and what they found were 59 pledge brothers who were involved in this hazing ritual, and they were covered with all this nasty stuff just standing around in a dark room. Tim Pool, being the authoritarian that he is, said, "How effing pathetic low T effing losers at frats begging to be told what to do. And then he says, I was hoping the whole time that the cops were just going to start beating the F out of these guys. Which is pretty ironic cuz you can't get more low T than low T poster boy Tim Pool. So, we're going to take a look at this video and make some comments along the way. Who is in charge of this fraternity? Hey guys. What's going on? While downstairs checking the fire alarm, officers stumble upon a fraternity hazing situation. Yeah, I'll definitely need 133 here. This is the alarm here. All right, who's in charge? Looks like we have quite a bit of hazing. So, I'm going to ask again, who's in charge? Um we can talk upstairs. >> No, we're going to talk right here. Who's in charge? Um a couple of us are. >> I mean, I don't know. I don't Yeah. By the way, you don't have to answer questions. If a cop is asking you questions, the best thing you can do is remain silent because anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law, as we know. I don't want to tell you. Okay, well, we need to find someone who's in charge cuz this is ridiculous. Hey, this stops here, guys. This is the police department. This stops here. These guys are willing participants in their own humiliation ritual. What stops where? Nobody's being held against their will here. They can leave anytime, but they don't because they want to be a part of the fraternity. Who's in charge? And I know it's dumb. It's stupid. They're insecure. They have no morals or principles to guide them, which leads me to believe that these are the future crop of new political parasitic psychopaths. Stairs. How about we stop we start cleaning this up? Everyone take their blindfolds off. I already gave you multiple uh commands to clear the room and get out of here, but no one's moving. Apparently, you're taking this pretty serious. Yeah, yes. You in charge? You said you were. >> found out who's in charge? Hm. I'm going to ask our house dad. Where's he at? Summit. Working at Summit. Summit. That's cool. So, uh So, you have to have someone come here. Yeah, we did it. It's coming. Okay, cool. Yeah. Definitely figure out why you wouldn't let me pass you initially. Questionable. Yeah. Look at it. Uh I'll probably be calling your house dad or whoever to get him here since ultimately he's probably in charge, right? Unless someone else is in charge. I don't know his number. Which one is it? Echo. Yeah. Do you guys know how the fire alarm got set off? We just heard it. It's manual. Goes off. So, this one this one in the hallway here. How it got set off, I'm not sure. I don't think it was down here. It's upstairs. I can tell you it was this one because I was in Yeah. I don't know where you're supposed to stay. You guys have to do this, too, huh? No. I don't know what this is. here. This is I mean, it's not you guys didn't know there was 15-20 people down in your basement. I'm not that dumb. It's fine. I'm getting a little frustrated that no one's telling me who's in charge of what's going on right here. >> but I'm not in charge. You literally asked >> I'd like to help you, but I'm not in charge. Yeah, I mean, we asked you who our house dad is and you said, "I don't know." I mean, how is your house house dad? How do you not have his number? Okay, then what are you doing here? He He's a live-in. He lives upstairs. Oh, so you do live here? No, sir, I don't live here. Well, he's Everybody here is saying different. So, my name is Officer Carlson, University of Idaho Police Department. Who's in charge of the house? Our house dad is at Summit. Hey, we need him now. He's at Summit. Okay, can we get him here? Here's the deal, from what I'm being told, this is like shutting down chapters and stuff. I need to start talking. Now stop. It's 1:00. Yeah, that's fine. I need to talk to people. Can I call Summit? Yeah. I'm not calling Summit. I have no contact with Summit. This guy's got no voice cuz he was probably the hazing leader yelling at these brand new pledge nominees. I'd love to be helpful. Nobody in here has any way to contact him. The guy that's in charge of this house. This is all going to the apartment. So, we're only making the situation that much worse. I have no contact. Okay, we need to find somebody that does. No one does. He's the house dad. Aren't you all Aren't you all supposed to have contact with him? I don't understand. What's his name? Eric. Eric, you don't know his last name? A couple different code violations. So, what's going on in here? We don't know. You're just walking in the door so we can't see what you're doing. How does nobody live here then? Just hanging out? >> me. No, you tell me. I don't know. You go to University of Idaho? Yeah. You do? What's your major? Business. Business? What's your name? Jose. For real, what's your name? Jose. Jose? What's your what's your last name? What? What? You don't want to talk to me? I won't say that. Huh? I won't say that. Okay. How old are you? 21. All right. >> have an ID. You got an ID or anything to prove I think it's fake. Huh? I think it's fake. You think it's fake? You think it's fake or you not? We have two different IDs. Two different. Thanks, sir. Campus 142, one by Jill. I don't want to tell you my name, but I'll give you my fake ID. Do parents know this is what they're spending their life savings on? I don't know what you mean. It's different than Jose. I go by Jose. How many of you are under 21? Name and say it out loud. I'll step outside. Okay. Okay. Is anyone in here that needs medical attention? Is anyone here that is against their will? Is there anyone here who is not participating in this? I need a leader. Is there anyone with any sort of physical injury? No. I don't want to Huh? So, nobody needs medical attention. Nobody's there against their will. Everybody's there voluntarily. The cops have no business here. Yeah, it's stupid. It's disgusting. It's alarming, but this is what they want. They want to be humiliated. They want to be demoralized. They want to be hazed. What are you going to do to me? What's all over you guys? It's just water. Just water? What's on that dude's tie? I'm not sure if it's water. You, come here. It's Serena. It was all water. No, you're going to stand right over there. Why? Cuz I'm telling you to. My house? It's your house. You're responsible for everything that happens in here. I didn't say it was my house. So, okay. Look at her right there. You know against the wall. Come over here. You're going to stand here and you're going to stand right over here. No, okay. Take these two and ask them some questions about what's going on on their arms. So, are you responsible for the house? No. Okay, who's the house dad? I just told you we're trying He's on it. We'll call him. Go there. Go there. What's his name? Eric. I told you. Why are you asking me? Cuz it sounds like you're responsible for the house. No. Sounds like you have something some idea of what's going on. No. And not very forthcoming with everything. How about you ask the house dad? Who do you have 30 years to try and get ahold of? Okay, we'll call him. Your place. Stay right there. What? Stay right there. You guys got any ideas on him? Yes, sir. Take a look at him. Step back. I don't know what you're doing. Back up. You suspect me of committing a crime, officer? I'm here of my own free will. Everyone else is here of their own free will. Nobody's committed crimes. So, if you want me to give you my ID, you need to tell me what crime you suspect me of committing. Stay here. Yeah, but right now we're investigating something that's going on. There's nothing going on. Does anyone want to be forthcoming on what's going on? Anything? Cuz you got to see it from my perspective. What the [ __ ] did I just walk into? Celebration. No, man. Celebration of what? What? Okay, sweet. Celebration of what? Hey, you two. Please have a seat. What you guys got? We're here for a couple of seconds at this point. What's on your arms? Oh. Where are you guys going now? 127, can I get you back down here? What's on neck? I don't know. I can't see. That looks like blood. Is it? Shine your light. Is it blood? That's what I'm asking. I'll taste it. No. Okay. Do you see why we're here? Why we're asking questions? >> know. You got the wrong guy. >> [cough] >> Why does this guy look like Tyler Robinson? I was going to ask those guys questions but then they all started heading out. What's up? I was going to ask those two guys questions but then they all started following out. They left. No, they I stopped them but he was This is our sir. Did you pull these guys [snorts] out? >> No, they I went to go talk to those guys and then they started coming out. Why did he come out? So I said that this is club. He said it? I did. So you're in charge? I know you said you're not in charge. I'm not in charge. Okay. You president? >> Yes. So you're the president. Fine. The officers finally speak to the fraternity president. I'm going to tell you first and foremost um I'm a little frustrated. >> Mhm. But we're going to get through it, okay? >> Mhm. What's going on tonight? It's it's their lead up to initiation. Okay. Yeah. Um what's what's the deal with what what are we doing in the basement? Um they're it's basically ritual where they're blindfolded Okay. and get messed with. Okay. So the entire time that we've been here, which has now been I think 15, 20 minutes? We have been demanding to speak to somebody in charge. Where nobody knows you apparently in the house. Nobody knows who's in charge. Like here's the deal. We have a hazing event, right? We're going to do a report because we have responded to a fire alarm. >> Mhm. Which we were trying to get people to evacuate because of the fire alarm. But from my understanding, you guys refused to evacuate from a fire alarm. >> Mhm. After an officer's ordering everybody to vacate the premise. >> Mhm. And then on top of that, we find this hazing event. We want to speak to somebody. Mhm. Nobody knows anything. Nobody knows anyone. Nobody knows what's going on. This is going in a report. The University of Iowa is going to see this. >> Okay. And with the stuff going around across the country, students dying from hazing events. I'm not saying it's that level. Mhm. It's not. I'm not saying any but the university has a very very strict policy on hazing. >> Mhm. Again, if some stupid dude, and keep in mind these are grown men, college age men, they voluntarily submitted themselves to something that they know is potentially dangerous, definitely humiliating, definitely demoralizing, but that's their free choice to do whatever they want to with their own lives, with their own bodies. I can't talk to people and if people aren't going to cooperate with me, >> Mhm. that's their right. They don't have to speak to me. However, that means only my observations are going to go into this report. And I'm telling you right now it's going to look >> It's like bungee jumping or skydiving or doing some race car driving or doing something dangerous. You know you're putting your life at risk. You're voluntarily doing it. Nobody's coercing you into participating in this hazing ritual. The cops have no say here. They have no control here. They have no business here, in my opinion. worse than if people can kind of explain to us what's going on, right? Cuz then I can at least put your guys' side of the story in it as well. >> Mhm. So, I guess I want to know what we got going on like um you're saying it's a ritual prior to initiation. >> Yes. Okay. Um I guess I'm asking for some cooperation and some coordination with your people here. Mhm. So just like tell your people like, "Hey, if that's what people need to do, just politely tell us that, right?" >> Mhm. So, I guess I'm looking for you to kind of be a leader here and help us out a little bit and start trying to >> Not just tell us that. We want you to tell it to us in a certain way. We want you to be polite to us cuz remember, we got super fragile egos and we will retaliate and escalate. Keep everybody in line. I apologize. Okay, let's go back inside. Um I just want to If we can get that guy out of there, I just want to coordinate somebody to make sure that there's no injuries, there's nothing. Where did Where did he go? Which guy? Um It's a house here. Okay, I just talked to somebody so I said said I told him you got to leave. I I want him out. You're guys' However, if the supervisor of the house, president, says he is not welcome here, then I'm going to escort him off property. I think if he refuses that, then he's going to be Yeah, we'll we'll walk him out. Okay. I would take care of that because the longer he stays here, I mean, he's he's getting close to being arrested. >> [snorts] >> The next day, police pay a visit to Joseph's apartment after he was very uncooperative the day before. After 10 minutes of talking, he again proved to be uncooperative and difficult to deal with. We're going to arrest you for not cooperating? Not cooperating is a crime when you weren't even investigating a crime and no crime took place? So, you interjecting yourself into that conversation, what good does that do? They don't need to talk to cops. I don't want you deciding who they need to talk to cops. I'm saying they're my buddies, they're my friends. The police are doing an investigation. About what? They're trying to figure out what's going on in there. What is What What was going on in the room? What What have you heard? So, they're doing an investigation. Yep. You don't dictate the investigation, right? That's for the police. That's for us to investigate, yeah. Right. You understand that. Yeah. So, why are you dictating who the police can talk to and can't talk to? He's talking to my buddies, not to talk to them, that's it. Okay. So, you're interfering with the police officers. Not at all. Not at all. But you He never said, "Ooh, if you don't get away, they're getting arrested." He never said that once. >> He did tell you to step away. He told you to walk away. And then he And then he said it again, I said walked away. No, he didn't. Okay. So, he asked you to I'd like to end this conversation right now. Thanks. I'd like to have a word here. Okay. And if there's anything actually happening you can call me again, but it's been a pleasure. Thanks fellas. So I have to scratch my neck. So this is the time to dress up real. Travis, 122 we'll take you. What did you say your name was? Joseph. All right, Joseph. All right, so unfortunately for you at this point you're being placed under arrest. What can we do here? He should have never let the cops into his house. He should have never talked to the cops. On your back. He didn't have to let him in. They didn't have a warrant. Joseph was arrested for interference with official acts in connection with the hazing incident. Those charges would be dropped a year later. The Alpha Delta Phi fraternity was suspended through 2029 for hazing. Of course the charges were dropped. The guy didn't commit a crime. His biggest mistake is he opened his mouth and he opened the door to cops. Yeah, hazing is stupid, but if you're not free to do stupid things in the land of the free home of the brave, then this isn't the land of the free home of the brave.
