o'clock to 37 and a 25. right can i get your driver's license real quick sheriff i'm not giving you my license i'm the sheriff you realize i'm the sheriff of this county i'm the sheriff of this county a ticket welcome back to the lackluster channel today's story was submitted by a viewer named ian and shows just how tyrannical elected officials can be this is carter county sheriff chris bryant the scope of a sheriff varies across states and counties the sheriff is an elected county official who serves as the chief civilian law enforcement official of their jurisdiction they enforce court orders and mandates such as evictions seizing property and assets and serving warrants in some counties the sheriff may serve as the principal police force and has jurisdiction over all of the county's municipalities they often run the county jails and court security functions some sources say that they are not above the law that they are not granted extra rights those sources are wrong aside from qualified immunity the sheriff has the power to intimidate their plebian underdog police officer counterparts with their power they are able to escape punitive actions for breaking the laws you and i would be hemmed up for violated if you don't believe me here is the proof good afternoon i'm officer henry with olympus police department reason for the stop today is because i clocked your 37 and 25 right yes sir okay can i get your driver's license real quick mr brunt you really want my driver's license i just want to look at it huh that's i just want to sheriff i'm not giving you my license i'm the sheriff okay okay i'm not giving you my driver's license okay okay all righty all right i appreciate you sit tight for me real quick you realize i'm the sheriff of this county yes sir okay i'm the sheriff of this county all right okay you pulled me over you've made your contact you wanna write me a ticket i mean i wasn't going to i was just going to make sure you had your driver's license i got my driver's license i always just want i was just asking to look at it and then i was going to send you on about your day okay that's all i was doing there's no driver's license okay okay and there's my commission card okay okay okay have a good day the video speaks for itself but if you still don't believe that there are a set of rules for you and a separate set of rules for them try refusing to produce your driver's license the next time you are pulled over for an alleged speeding infraction then when the officer walks back to his patrol car put a weapon on your hip and approach him show the officer your occupational certificates and tell him what you do for a living sure i'm not giving you my license i'm the sheriff you realize i'm the sheriff of this county i'm the sheriff of this county it seems to have worked for sheriff chris bryant why wouldn't it work for you too when sheriff bryant was asked for a statement he claimed to be unavailable for an interview because he was working on cases but he did send the following statement i apologize for my actions on friday in wilson it was poor judgment on my part to be driving in excess of the speed limit and to not promptly display my driver's license when asked to do so for whatever little it's worth i did return to the wilson police department about an hour later and apologized to the officer who had initiated the traffic stop i have also apologized to the city mayor as well as the police chief there was no need for me to be curt this man was simply doing his job despite admitting to speeding in his apology the sheriff was not cited nor was he charged with failure to identify or obstructing a police officer but he did apologize to the officer in the video and the police chief says he is proud that his officer kept his composure let me know what you think of this interaction did the police officer act accordingly should the sheriff be cited for speeding or should we allow law enforcement to operate on a different set of standards sure i'm not giving you my license i'm the sheriff you realize i'm the sheriff of this county i'm the sheriff of this county thanks for watching if you have a video you'd like me to review email it or send it in via facebook messenger you can also view this and other content on my website if you're new here subscribe for future content if you've been around for a while remember to like share and comment down below of what you think of this interaction shirts and other goodies are available at the teespring store linked below channel membership start at just a buck if you'd like to further support the channel and get a slick lack logo next to your name i'll see you in the next video all links are down below [Music] you
