He said, "Stay here. When I get back, you better be waiting for me." Okay. Do you have your ID with you? No. No. Okay. Mind if I get your name? No. I didn't break no law. Close the door. You're not Are you kidding me? Welcome back to the Lackluster Channel. Just after midnight on the morning of July 4th, Ryan stepped outside to smoke. While outside, a neighbor was leaving with the music in his vehicle turned up to the max. Ryan motioned with his hand for him to lower the volume as his girlfriend Melissa was inside trying to sleep. The neighbor began arguing with him and is alleged to have threatened to beat Ryan's ass when he returned. 5 minutes later, the man returned, but Ryan was already inside. Not long after that, four uniformed members of the Altuna Police Department arrived at the home and knocked at the door. outside. Hello. Hello. Is Anthony here? Anthony? There's no Anthony here. What was the They said that uh there was a male here. Okay. His name's not Anthony. Okay. What was the confrontation that happened? Um he went downstairs to smoke a cigarette and told the neighbor to keep his music down because I was trying to sleep. I have to be up at 5:00 in the morning for work. So, he simply asked, "Can you please keep your music down of the car?" because he blasts the music at all hours of the day and night. He said he just kicked my ass. And then he said, "Stay here. When I get back, you better be waiting for me." When law enforcement pays an unexpected visit to your home, the most important thing to remember is that if they have any authority to enter, they will. Voluntarily answering the door is a coin flip as to how the remainder of your evening will turn out. Though they cannot lawfully enter your home absent your consent, exigent circumstances, or a warrant, many cops incorrectly believe they have the authority to step into your threshold to prevent you from closing your door. Even worse is that some think they can enter just because you've opened it. Fortunately, Melissa has kept the door chain secured and is recording the encounter on three devices. However, when Ryan is called to the door, the chain is unsecured, leaving the couple vulnerable. So, I stood out there and smoke my cigarette. Okay. Can you come out here and talk with me or at least come to the door and talk with me? Talk to you? Yeah. What would you like to know? Well, that chick wasn't even here. The chick Yeah. The chick wasn't even here. So, that's hearsay. Okay. Yeah, that's that's hearsay. So, um So, nothing physical happened between No, at all. He told me he kicked my ass and I'll show you a door cam. You want to come in, man? No, you don't come in. I'll come out and I'll show you every single door cam. Do you have it recorded? What do you mean? Doorbells record, not the incident that happened. Okay. So, my understanding is this. We get them at here. I was outside. Okay. It's not on the door with his kid to go get his old lady like they do every night. Mhm. But they blast the music at 12:30, 1:00 in the morning. Okay. I work at 5. She works at 5. And as much as they say, I don't live here. I have my own address. So, I'm allowed to be here three days a month. We already cleared that up. That's perfect. Oh, civil stuff. Is there a sergeant here? Sergeant? Someone in charge? So, can I get somebody in charge? I'm in charge of this incident right now. No, I mean like above you. Above you? No, you don't have a sergeant. You can't get us a white shirt. The way that they treated us last night. Yes. I need to I need to talk to make a complaint. They've been here three times now. If you want to make a complaint, you can come down station. They'll give you some paperwork. You can fill out a complaint. You can do it now and you can write it down. That's the law. We're handling this right now. It's not. Listen, it's not I don't have anything to do with whoever was here before. I'm here now for this incident that occurred a few minutes ago and nothing happened. Nothing happened. So, she wasn't here. So, they they said they were going to want my ass and this and that. Okay. So, we do have a harassment issue between you guys. Yeah. He said he was going to kick my ass. Okay. I said I would stay here and I smoked my cigarette. Okay. And that's all I did. He parked in here. I was coming back from the store up this way. He didn't park pull in. This old lady jumped out and called the cops. That's what they do. Okay. Do you have your ID with you? No. No. Okay. Mind if I get your name? No. I didn't break my law. With that sigh, the last remaining traces of humanity leave field training officer Glass's body. I didn't break my law. I don't care if this is an official. Please. Then investigate. There's no crime. Have your name. No, you don't. No. No crime committed. Close the door. You're not. Are you [ __ ] kidding me? As the couple ends this consensual conversation, they close their door. Field training officer Glass slams the door open, sending Melissa flying backward about 5 ft, pushing Melissa back further by her neck to get to Ryan, throwing him to his back. Ryan curls up into the fetal position with his hands up and open above his head as cowardly officer Glass rains down punches on the obviously surrendering man the door. You're not Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Close the door. You're not Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Close the door. You're not Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Are you [ __ ] kidding me? Are you [ __ ] kidding me? What the [ __ ] No reason to come in here. Slamming the front door open and attacking the occupants not only amounts to an unlawful entry, but also constitutes excessive force under Graham v. Connor, which requires that force be objectively reasonable under the circumstances. Ryan and Melissa were not lawfully required to ID, as there was no crime to begin with. But even if there was, there is still no justification for the violent attack. Officer Glass's actions appear not only to be unconstitutional, but criminal, and he is the one training the other officers. Melissa is also now taken to the ground. [Music] Ryan and Melissa were taken to the station, fingerprinted, and immediately released. They were told they would be charged with obstructing and resisting. Officer Glass told Ryan that he would also be charged with assault on a law enforcement officer because while he was being punched in the face, Ryan raised his hands, but when the punches didn't stop, he attempted to block them, resulting in Officer Glass scratching himself. Neither Ryan or Melissa have received information related to the supposed charges as of this publication. The two were forced to walk barefoot for four miles through the night to return to their apartment. Despite repeated inquiries, the department refused to identify any of the officers involved. The only confirmed identity was Officer Glass, whose name was visible on his uniform in the video. The following morning, Ryan sought medical treatment. The attending physician believed he'd been beaten with a baton based on the severity of his injuries. Ryan later shared photographs with me that detail more than 20 visible contusions, abrasions, and swelling, but are too graphic to be shown on YouTube. I've already submitted a records request for the incident, and once the materials are released, I'll post an update. In the meantime, if you're an attorney based in or near Altuna, Pennsylvania, and are interested in representing Ryan and Melissa, reach out to me using the email listed in the comments or description. I'll make sure to connect you with them directly. Otherwise, let me know what you think about this interaction in the comments. And if you've been the victim of police misconduct that needs to be exposed, use the submissions link in the pinned comment to send it.
