Yo, what's going on? So, today we got a video from A Matter of Crime. And the title of the video is she scanned a dollar soda and walked away with $3,000 in designer albums. I don't know how she does that, man. So, let's get into it. Let's see what they talking about here. >> I seen an opportunity and I kind of used that just so I can put food on the table and a place to stay for my daughter. that doesn't give me the right to, you know, obviously I did what I did and it was wrong. I am willing to pay that back full price um if I get the opportunity to. A Nordstrom rack cashier was caught running a bold scheme, one that racked up over $3,000 in stolen merchandise. Her method simple. She'd handpick high-end items, then have her boyfriend bring them through her register. She'd scan the items like a normal sale, then void the transactions and let him walk out with the merchandise. No receipts, no record. When loss prevention started noticing patterns, they called in police. What happens next is all captured on body cam. >> Get anything out of it today or what? What's you say $2,500? Like >> it was an accumulation of a whole bunch of incidents. So, it started back in May 13th and she was basically bringing up merchandise and handing it off to the customer. So, she was ringing up the items but then handing it off the transaction. and then giving the merchandise still to the customer. So it resulted in >> So she was passing merchandise. >> So it results into so many times. One time was like 500, another time was 1300, another time was 300. So it all accumulated up to 25. >> So she was not keeping the money. She was just giving the merchandise for free, >> right? But the merchandise was apparently for her. >> So that's probably somebody that she knew was coming. >> She said she had just met him. All all of them with one specific >> one specific individual. Yes. >> Um have you guys interviewed her? >> Yes. Where interview is process already done? >> Okay. >> Um just on video. >> Yes. Everything's on recording. >> I mean not the interview but the transactions and stuff. It's all on video. >> Okay. >> Yes. We have all the videos. >> We'll go talk to her and then if you have the video so we can watch. Mhm. How's it going? Hello. How are you? You have ID. You have your ID. >> Going to jail. >> No, I don't. >> Okay. Do you have one at all? >> Yeah, I do. But I have to get a new >> Cool. Before I talk to you, I'm just going to read you right. All right. >> What's your name? >> Ashman. Ashley. Yes. 26. >> 26. >> Sorry. >> You're fine. >> Happens. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Anything you say may be used against you in court. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer before and during questioning. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> If you can cannot afford a lawyer, I want one. One will be provided for you before questioning without charge. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Has anyone threatened you or promised you anything to get you to talk to me? >> No. >> Perfect. All right. You want to talk about what happened today? >> Um, I did some things um that I take full responsibility for. >> Okay. >> Um, >> what are those things? homeless mother where um I seen an opportunity and I kind of used that just so I can put food on the table and a place to stay for my daughter. That doesn't give me the right to, you know, obviously I did what I did in this room. Um I did take merchandise and um pond it just so I can get a hotel and stuff like that. Uh like I said, what I did is not saying that it's right because of my situation or anything. So I do take full accountability before that. Um I do and willing to pay back to $2,000 that I did $2,500. >> Yes. Um I am willing to pay that back full um if I get the opportunity to. Like I said, you know what I did was wrong. um to pull accountability for it. Um I did do what I had to do though. >> So what did you do in specific? >> Um I >> You have the right to remain silent. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Take full advantage of that. I mean, you already caught in 4K anyway. It's already It's a done deal. Well, maybe they don't got 4K. Maybe it's 1080p. Okay, whether it's 1080p or 720p, you still caught. But listen, you have the right to remain silent. Yeah, you going to pay it back. Oh, I'm willing to pay it back. No [ __ ] You ain't going to have a choice. You ain't got a choice. All right. But some charges is going to come along with that, man. Golly, she old enough. She not even a It's not like, you know, I mean, even a 18-year-old knows right from wrong, but come on. You You You damn near pushing 30, baby. You come on now. All money ain't good money. You said you seen the opportunity to Yeah. Come on. >> Basically, >> you mind if I sit here? >> Yeah. Do you have another check? [Applause] >> I rang it. Well, didn't bring it up. I basically handed it off. >> So, you work here? >> Yes. >> How long have you been in work at? >> Um, well, I was here 2 years ago and then I had my baby and then came back 2 years. So, I just came back in April 2nd. Was it April 2nd? >> April. April second. >> And then what's your job here? What's your role? >> Cashier. >> Cashier. So, you were working as a cashier >> and then what happened? >> Um, like I said, I've seen the opportunity where I could have used the merchandise to sell so I can have me and my daughter good, >> right? >> I did take the merchandise, hand it off, and so I can sell it. So, I sold the merchandise. just have liquid uh pawn shops, >> just generic pawn shops or do you have a pawn shop that you normally go to or >> No, I think it was one on the east side that I was just driving around and I happened to see and I stopped there. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Who who you were handing the merchandise to? >> Um this person that I've just met. Um I asked him if he can do it for me. Um >> it's like a friend of yours. >> No, I actually just met him. It was at the club. somebody that was trying to get my number, whatever the case may be. And um I seen the opportunity to use him um so that I can do that. >> How many times did you do >> Hey, love. Can I hold on? Hold on. Hold on. This is how I went. Hey love, I I think you look pretty good. Can I get your number? You know what I'm saying? ain't spitting that game. And she thinking in her head, man, how can I get him caught up in a misdemeanor or a felony? You hear me? What? He just trying to Listen, let's be honest here. He just trying to clap cheeks. He seen her in the club. She looking good. You know what I'm saying? You trying to spit some game, baby. What's good? And she thinking in her mind, hey, how can I get you wrapped up in some criminal activity, man? Golly, ain't that something? >> I believe it was three, four, three, or four times. >> Three or four times with the same guy? >> Um, yes. >> When he was at the store, like did he purchase anything? >> Uh, yes. Uh, >> he purchased what? >> Uh, Coca-Cola. >> Oh, so he came in purchase a Coca-Cola. made him purchase a Coca-Cola and um basically suspended the transactions and then um let him walk out with the >> and what you were doing like you were basically he would bring the merchandise to you at the cash register. >> Yeah. So I would tell him what I want and he would go like clothes for my daughter, shoes and stuff like that stuff that I know that I can um use to get a little bit of money. Extra money. >> Did you kept any of the merchandise? >> Cap as? >> Yeah. Like you you you have >> Oh, kept. No, I didn't. >> No. So everything >> except for the clothes for my daughter. >> Okay. So you did keep some of the clothes for your daughter, >> right? um the ones that you sold that it was mentioned that uh the the store price is 24 about a little over $2,500. How much do you get at Pawn Shops? >> Um less than that. They don't never give me the full price, right? Um >> uh for example, uh a watch a fair watch was 700. I got uh 4 400 from it. >> We got 400 for it. >> 400. Yeah. Yeah. >> Do you have any idea how much money did you get on all the sales at the pawn shops? >> Um, a lot of them, not everything I sold to the pawn shops. Some I just sold to people that I knew or um I just sold like basically if it wasn't pawn shop just people that I knew or people that knew that I knew people that knew people, >> right? >> Um, >> altogether I would say out of everything probably wasn't even a little bit more than half. I didn't get I didn't really get too too much from anything. Um especially cuz I kept most of the clothes for my daughter. So I would say around 1,000 300 I want to say round up. Yeah. >> And uh what were you and you said you were using that money to pay hotels, >> right? >> Which hotels you staying at? >> Um different different ones. There was motel that I paid um where Pine Hills area. Um, I've had one on international. >> Are you staying in a hotel right now? >> Um, right now I'm staying with a friend, but um, she is going on vacation soon, so I do have to >> go back in. Yeah. >> And it's just you, your daughter, you said? >> Yeah, just me and my daughter. >> Where's your daughter at right now? >> Right now, she's with my mom. >> Okay. >> Um, my mom doesn't take care of her too much just cuz she's not physically able to do it, so she does it as much as she can, basically. >> Right. How old are you? >> I'm 26. >> 26. >> 26. >> You've ever been in trouble before? >> No. >> Have you ever done anything like this before? >> No. Uh, when did you start doing this? >> Um, >> um, when I came back here >> in April. So, it started >> Oh, not not in April. Probably like maybe that month after. >> Yeah. They show me one video now that is dated May 13. >> Was that like your first one? >> That was probably like the first one. >> Uh the items you mentioned that they were clothing and some watch were most of them like female clothing or >> Yeah, most of them were female clothing. Uh the Valentino shoes was one of them. Um they were believe. Yeah. And then one of was a watch as well, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Very bad watch. >> Anything else? >> So, who's this person? >> Like, this is somebody I don't >> You have his information? >> No, I don't. >> You You've dealt with him over multiple occasions. >> You have his phone number at least. >> Okay. Okay. She trying to hold it down. Okay. Okay. She trying to hold it down. Of course, we know that she she knows who it is. She has his information and stuff like that, but she's trying to not implement him and and you know, but you already did. You know what I'm saying? He's already jammed up. You know, man, all he That's crazy. Isn't that crazy, fellas? Man, trying to get a girl number turns into you getting roped up into theft of $3,000. We talking a felony. This is a felony for sure. So, dang, man. Golly, that's insane. Let's see. Let's see if she going if she going to dime him out. >> No, that's all I have. Um, >> how did you communicate with this person? >> Email. >> Email. You said you got his number at a club and now you sent an email. >> No, no, I've never got his number. He wanted my number. That's how I got in contact with him. >> Okay. >> So, from there. >> So, what was his cut? >> Nothing. >> So, because he liked me I that's why I said I use that and took advantage of that because he liked it. Okay. >> Do you hear that? Do you hear that? She used her leverage that he liked her for her personal gain to get something out of it. Th This is what This is what's going on in the lady's heads. Fellas, we got to tighten up. We got to tighten up. Don't be blind by the kitty cat, man. Don't be You see a chicken, you like, "Man, I got to see what them walls is looking like. I got to see what the what the guts is feeling like." Look. Look what she said. She said, "I know that he likes me, so I use this to my advantage." Okay, this is what she said. She used it as leverage. Okay, she he got nothing out of the deal besides a a a pending felony charge. Okay, that's it. That's all he got out of the deal. He said, "Baby, can I get your number?" She said, "No, I got Gmail. You hear me?" He said, "Hey, look, no ID." He look when the officer walked in, "Baby, you got your ID?" "Oh, no. I ain't got my Of course you ain't got your ID. You never got your ID. Nothing. These criminals never got their ID. Nothing. She utilized her beauty." And this simp, this guy who was drooling over her at the club or whatever. She just had a kid. You know, she's using the story that she got a kid and uh I I got a kid and we got no place to stay, so I got to pay for hotels and yada yada yada and all of this other stuff, right? Where it's hard times right now, but she got time to go to the club cuz that's where she met this dude. You just had a baby. I thought you were supposed to be taking care of your daughter. This and that, man. Man. Yo, if they keep stomping, boy, might have to go upstairs, tighten them up. You hear me? But no, but um yeah, this is just this is just insane, man. Man, blinded. Guys, guys, we got to tighten up. We got to do better than this. >> So, when we when if I if I ran your record, you would never been arrested for anything related to this? >> Have you ever got caught for shoplifting before or anything like that? >> Never. I had one miscondina before. It was a better charge. >> Okay, >> that was a lot. >> Um, how did you So, you would how would you decipher what you wanted before you left? Like, hey, I want these items. >> Can you explain to me like how you did that before he did you stage the merchandise? Did you grab the merchandise? Did he grab the merchandise? >> Oh, no. I made him grab whatever I told him that I wanted. >> So, was this before your shift? You said, "Give me this, this, this, and that." >> No, this was >> Oh, you said before my shift? Yeah. >> Yeah. So, how would he know what to pick >> with me? >> Like, >> well, like I would just nothing specifically. I wouldn't tell him like it's something like um I would just say like >> you would email him this. You would or would you text him? How did he know? >> Um like >> do you have those emails? >> I do not. >> Like for example, the clothes. Um I was going to get the size clothes for my daughter. And >> you would go into life for the clothes you sell? >> Yeah. Right. discuss any specific. >> So you you would suspend the transactions or would you can you explain that to me what you did at the cash register? >> Right. So I would suspend the transaction. >> So he come up with a Coke bottle >> or everything, right? And I would um bring up everything same way and just suspend a transaction. >> So you would scan all the merchandise and then cancel it, >> right? >> Okay. Let me go talk to them. Um, do you have an itemized list of all the merchandise? >> Thumb drive. The thumb drive I'm going to give you shows her where she's scanning everything and then the line iting voiding off. >> Uh, so every item that she stole, she got it. >> Yeah, it was pretty pretty simple. There was one transaction that took a little bit for us uh harder for us to find because she started to get wise. By the fourth time, she only rung him up for the coke, but everything else was kind of >> So everything that you documented today was at minimum what you could what she did scam. >> Yes. >> There's no estimated things. I just want to know. >> Through the conversation, we were able to find out that she suspended one of the transactions. We went back cuz I had another partner with me online who went back and found that transaction so I can coincide. So the the the four transactions I'm going to give you are the total amount that we can prove as a no loss, which is 2549 something like that. >> Okay. But the ones that aren't exact, did you even document those? >> No, they're all exact. You have registered transactions of everything. >> Okay. >> So, it was just that one transaction, >> but it's going to be accompanied. So, you're going to see five. >> So, it's like it's like a void item receipt type of deal. >> Yeah. You'll see it just says a Coke for 318, but then I have attached the suspended transaction to it. So, that's basically her like ring it up. >> So, everything was at some point scanned. Got it. >> Thank god. >> Not too clever here. Yeah. >> Um, and do you guys have uh OPD witness statements that you could fill out for us or >> I do not. >> I I can get back for you. >> The gentleman I believe to be Terrence Wilson, I do have his email address. >> Okay. Did she provide that to you? Cuz sometimes they don't provide >> the first transaction he signed up for. Nordy Club loyalty. >> Uh-huh. >> Got to love the loyalty programs in retail environment. >> He put his email on there. >> Yes, he did. For music@gmail.com, some stupid thing like that. >> Terrence Williams. Is it >> Wilson? Wilson. Terren Wilson. Um, >> it's Terrence, but it's almost felt like >> he's even suspected in any other crimes that you've had. >> Not that I'm aware of. >> Okay. Cuz sometimes they'll use multiple girls. You know what I'm saying? Um, and uh I have to ask this. Do you guys want to press charges for that? Okay. >> Um, I will get the statements. Is that Were you the primary off uh investigator on this? Okay. I'll get a um I'll get you a written one cuz that's all we have. >> And then we'll go from there. Okay. >> Do you realize like what you did was not good, right? Do you understand that? Like there's a difference between petty theft and grand theft, >> right? So grand theft is >> it? It's 700. >> So that's a felony crime. All right. Um >> for this being your first time, it's a pretty sophisticated operation that you just were a part of. It's not like you stole candy from the store, right? You're an adult. >> I'm more concerned that like you're telling the half h half truth because it's a natural thing to do, right? you want to like downplay what you did. >> At this point, I I spilled everything. >> But you didn't spill everything because you're being a little um you're protective of this person you're dealing with. >> Honestly, no. >> You don't have any information as to >> the email. >> What's it? And you don't know his name. >> I find that very hard. >> Terren. Yeah. Terrence Wilson. >> Terrence Wilson. All right. And he's not in any shape or form leading you to do anything else? >> No, definitely not. Like I said, this was my main thing was for me and my daughter. >> Mhm. >> Why? Because >> Does he have any relation to your daughter or anything like that? >> No, not at all. It's just that um like I said, he was somebody who wanted my number and um nowadays >> people would do anything for females and >> they don't even have to get my >> Oh my god. >> Not even a >> Are you listening to this? Are you listening to this? She is wise. She knows the game. Fellas, we got to do better than this, man. She just said nowadays, guys do anything. Oh my goodness. Are we listening to this is what's going on in their minds? Listening. I know I got some ladies that watch me now, too. You know what I'm saying? I'm not saying it's y'all. You know what I'm saying? I'm baby. I'm not saying it's you. Okay. But I'm trying to tell the guys we got to be careful, boy. Terrence Terren just wanted her number and now he roped up in a felony. Oh my gosh. This is insane. This is This is insane. >> Yeah. Terrence Wilson. >> Terrence Wilson. All right. And he's not in any shape or form leading you to do anything else? >> Definitely not. Like I said, this was my main thing was for me and my daughter. >> Mhm. >> Why? Because >> Does he have any relation to your daughter or anything like that? >> No, not at all. It's just that um like I said, he was somebody who wanted my number and um nowadays >> people would do anything for funerals and >> they don't even have to get anything from it. >> So, um not even a piece of merchandise I gave him because it was my my thing. I wanted to get that. full responsibility. He didn't take any money or Well, obviously he he is an accomplice to the crime. You understand that, right? >> So, he's not completely was tight. >> Okay. >> Is that your bag there? >> Yeah. >> Can I see that bag? Do you have anything in here like weapons or anything like that? I should know about any pepper spray and stuff like that. >> All right. Cool. And there's no merchandise in here that is >> No, this is um there. No. >> Okay. >> There got to be something in that bag. She keeping her eyes glued on that bag, boy. Look at this. >> Oh, the headphone pieces are as well. >> The headphones. So, there is merchandise here that you didn't pay for. >> No, no, no, no. Um, the headset. >> Oh, I got you. I got you. >> I'm sorry. >> No, you're good. Just want to make sure the headphone piece. Where is that? >> Did I take it out? >> Is that >> No, the in here. Oh, no. I think I took it off. >> Yeah, I did give it to you. I thought I had it. >> All right. You have anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, or hurt me? >> No. >> Okay. You need to stand up. >> All right. Um, your phone. This will come with you. So, you are being arrested today. You go to jail for grant witnessing officer. There's nothing in your pockets or anything else. Nope. Put your hands around your back. cooked. The suspect was arrested and charged with felony grand theft. She later received 6 months probation and was ordered to pay back the full amount in restitution. Do you think that was fair or should >> Man, oh man, that's crazy. You a man, if you're a single man watching this, I hope you learned a lot from this video, boy. Oh man, be careful, man. They know. They know how to She said nowadays guys will do anything for a female. Oh my I'm sitting here like, "What?" Yo. Oh, man. They got the whole game wrapped up and locked in tight, man. Yeah. So, she's a smart girl, man. Honestly. Um, as far as like knowing everything. Now, if she used her brains for any good, you know, that would be that would be great. You know what I'm saying? Um, you know, at at first it makes you actually feel bad for for her. You know, she says, uh, you know, I just had a baby, blah, blah, blah. Like, you know, it's tough. Single mom, you know, we don't got nowhere to stay, blah, blah, blah. You know, it sounds good in the beginning, but then she goes, "Yeah, but I was out at the club and yada yada." Like, what? No, no, no. Oh no, man. Yeah, man. You risk a guaranteed paycheck every week to to for a felony, man. That don't make no sense, man. These officers did a great job. Fantastic job. Um especially the loss prevention guy for getting the name and the email of the dude. Now, that was that was groundbreaking right there. You know what I'm saying? So, yeah, I think they did a good job, man. I'm definitely giving him probably like I give him like four out of five. Good interview, man. Good interview, man. She She Yeah, boy. This is just crazy, man. But if you enjoyed this video, there's going to be another video at the end of the screen somewhere, man.
