right Philadelphia police have named one of the officers involved in the shooting that killed a 27 year old man in Kensington this comes after police revealed new information changing The Narrative of what happened Monday afternoon changing the narrative that almost sounds like a lie in the name of transparency I strive for our department to release as much detail as possible we are constantly being told by Police Department officials all over the country that they're interested in being transparent in the name of transparency you know that quality of being easy to see through open honest truthful keeping it real but when these officials have the opportunity and the means of being transparent they construct barriers and give excuses on how they can't exactly be as transparent as they want to be at this particular time and they give all kinds of excuse uses well we can't comment on that because it might jeopardize our ongoing investigation or we can't release the name of the police officer involved in the incident because he's got a 72 hour window of protection or we're trying to protect the families from any kind of potential retaliation but we all know they use these excuses to stall so they can have more time to get their lie right well it should come as no shock to you that the Philadelphia Police Department employed all these tactics at a recent press conference here Philadelphia police commissioner Danielle Outlaw we should just call her Danielle Above the Law acknowledged a discrepancy in the initial report of a deadly officer-involved shooting in Kensington now before I play some clips from this conference on Monday August 14th 27 year old Eddie Irizarry was pulled over and approached by two officers one has been identified as Mark Dial not long into the Stop officer dialed it up to 11 ended Eddie's time here on Earth originally Philadelphia police reported that Irizarry was outside his car and lunged toward the officers with a knife but that narrative soon changed let's listen to commissioner Above the Law as she tries to smooth things over with this public relations briefing and then we'll be making some vital comments along the way unfortunately the audio is only right ear to start I want to acknowledge that during the Press briefing that took place on scene on August 14 2023 we reported that the preliminary information indicated that the driver was outside of the vehicle at the time of the shooting at this time the evidence clearly indicates that the mail was not outside of the vehicle and was seated inside of the vehicle at the time of the discharge I understand and once we acknowledge the hurt and confusion that family and community members can experience when details of Investigations change and especially when they change in a very public way that this is um occurred so a couple of logical questions here do people understand that the initial report was a complete fabrication based on nothing and number two who is responsible for conveying that initial report number three who is responsible for believing the initial report without evidence and then reporting on it anyway in the name of transparency I strive for our department to release as much detail as possible when we can do so without damaging the Integrity of the investigation so what's she actually saying here just like officer safety trumps individual rights protecting the Integrity of an investigation trumps transparency that is why we preface all of our re-releases by stating that information is preliminary and subject to change at the time we gave that information that was the best information that we had available so it's absolute fiction complete lie that's what Miss Outlaw calls the best information they had available an investigation that is concurrently being handled by the District Attorney's office I will now provide updates about the status of the investigation and will take questions at the end and we'll do our best to provide answers if we have them however I need to make very clear that I'm unable to answer any questions as to the specifics of the evidence outside of what I will now divulge translation we're only going to be transparent when we want and only uncertain things but I'm not straying from my predetermined script I got written down right here in front of me so if you're looking for real answers well you ain't gonna get them but we're super transparent and we always strive to clarify and update that information as quickly and accurately as possible that's what we're doing here today I also understand that the information I'm about to provide will raise additional questions but allow me to again reiterate that it is our duty to protect the Integrity of the investigation also as I go over the details of the incident I will be referring to one of the officers by number officer number one and a Second Officer as officer a we use numbers to denote discharging officers and letters to denote officers who were at the scene during officer involved shootings [Music] so on Monday August 14th at approximately 12 28 PM District officer number one and his partner officer a were in full uniform and operating a marked police car in the area of B Street near Westmoreland when they observed a Toyota Corolla with the Pennsylvania tag driving erratically officer a win over police radio and asked if there were any priority assignments involving a Toyota Suzanne Toyota sedan the officers followed the vehicle as it turned on Westmoreland then left onto Lee Street and finally on to Willard Street at that point the vehicle continued along 100 East Willard Street a single Lane one-way Street westbound the wrong way the vehicle pulls into a parking spot mid-block at which point both officers got out of their marked radio patrol car officer a who was the driver of the police vehicle approached the passenger side of the Toyota Corolla officer number one the passenger of the police car approached the driver's side door officer a attempted to open the passenger side door and as he did so officer number one was approaching the driver's side door sorry gotta admit that was pretty funny officer a alerted officer number one that the male had a weapon as the mail turned towards officer number one officer number one discharged his firearm multiple times into the vehicle fatal fatally wounding the driver so occupant of the vehicle the occupant or operator was transported to the temple hospital by police where he was pronounced at 12 48 pm two knives were observed inside of the vehicle and then the vehicle was towed to the police garage pending a search warrant two knives out in the open in a private automobile that's what cost this man his life so just for some clarity what happened was cop a yelled weapon and cop number one freaked out and started firing his gun like a Jughead and it wasn't enough that the man's gone now they're gonna get a warrant and go through his property both officers body worn cameras were activated and captured the incident as we do and all of our officer involved shootings our officer involved shooting unit immediately began a thorough investigation I assure our public that a fair and thorough investigation will take place by our department and I also want to assure that we will provide updates in a transparent and expeditious manner but only when we can do so in a way that would not compromise the Integrity of the investigation again the Integrity of the investigation cannot be compromised but our desire to be transparent can be compromised what's to investigate when you have video evidence of what actually happened if they really wanted to be transparent they would release the body cam footage and let the public see for themselves what happened this is what you call hiding in darkness and a blatant disregard for the truth so that's what we hope to do here today and we will continue to do so as the investigation continues will always strive to be as transparent as possible we recognize we have to provide the safety for the communities that we serve and in addition to ensuring the safety as of our officers and their families with that in mind we will take questions I'm only going to highlight a couple of questions that they ask her if you want to hear all of them I'll leave the link to this briefing in the description below here's where they ask the cops who initially sold them on the LIE that Eddie lunged at the officers with a knife that I don't know drop it those are details that I don't think we're going to go into today it is an ongoing investigation I want to mention again it's very important we have not yet interviewed the discharging officer so we do not have the account of the discharging officer yet that's just a flat out lie they have a perfect account of the discharging officer it's called a body cam at this point it doesn't matter what the cop says cameras don't lie cops do now they're asked again who the heck lied about the incident we do know that there's footage out there but again I don't want to say anything or confirm anything or speculate on anything that could potentially jeopardize what we're reviewing the discharging officer has not been interviewed and we don't know where that information came from I mean that's just a very drastic detail detail that looking at video clearly come up with an answer so I guess everyone's just wondering where did that initial information come from or what led to it being shared so publicly yeah and I share your sentiment I think we all do and quite frankly before all of us even responded to the scene that was the information that was relayed to us so we're trying to backtrack that as well to figure out exactly how that was related to leadership uh on the scene but again as soon as we found out that that was not what occurred we did what we could to be as transparent as possible to get the information out there you mean to tell me that nobody in the entire police department knows the origin of the initial lie she claims that she's trying to be as transparent as possible while she's standing there majoring in obscurity ambiguity and secrecy so why won't they release the body cam footage so we can see for ourselves exactly what happened be sure to leave your comments about this
