Here's what to say when cops ask, "Why won't you just look me in the eye?" It's not often that a police officer will say, "Why don't you look me in the eye?" In fact, I can't think of a time when he's ever done that. But he might use that as what he calls evidence of deceptive or nervous behavior. I still don't understand today why cops get confused when people get nervous on traffic stops. So many times I've seen police officers say, "Wow, your heart's beating out of your chest. Why are you so nervous?" "I'm nervous because I've been pulled over by a police officer." That's completely normal behavior and it's not abnormal to not look a police officer in the eye. Now, I teach people to look the officer in the eye. Always be confident. Always be secure in what your answers are going to be. And always know the answer before a cop ever walks up to your window. And what's the answer? I don't answer questions without a lawyer.
