on November 8th 2023 Martin County
sheriff's officer Yun Jay Yun observed a
white minivan approaching from the rear
at a high rate of speed the driver later
identified as James malvezzi campeggi
continued to drive in a manner that
suggested he may be under the influence
a stop was initiated and the suspect
quickly became argumentative before
escalating the situation the following
is body cam footage of the
encounter
how you doing do you have your license

driving like that man you're you're just
all over the place you're running red
lights you cut me off back there you
pull into the gas station pull out you
ran this red light making the right turn
you just pulled in there and you're
pulling back out without stopping before
pulling out on the
road no you did not
sir you did not stop that's my point you
should have stopped license registration
sir where you where are you heading
tonight going to the highway going to
the highway are you lost no so why are
you why are you making all these extra
turns and running red lights and
stuff you ran several sir what's
that I'm telling you I saw you do it
don't I'm going to so I can see
you
I'm not I'm not going to stop what I'm
doing
sir your registration
sir hand it to
me no sir I'm not done with it y do you
take you look at it through here no sir
yes sir that's not how it works give me

difficult because you're making
everything up what's your problem I'm
I'm making everything up I had to turn
right say say again it was a red light
mhm R
yes you did nothing stop you have to
stop before you make that right ter so I
did stop you did not sir yes I did no
you did not okay I'm not going to say
you an argue with you what what's your
definition what do you mean what's my
def you you never stop no one stop I'll
tell you this you stop what's that you
do stop I do you make a complete every

don't touch my window sit
tight while talking to campeggi the
officer noted bloodshot and glassy eyes
and requested a Traffic Unit to
administer a field sobriety
test
do you want to hand it to me or
no what do you want to hand it to us now
or no do you want it if you would
politely hand it to us I'd really
appreciate it what what do you why do
you need I mean essentially required to
provide it to us here it is this is your
provision okay could I have it outside
so I can give it to my partner who's
doing the check or no Corona virus
Corona virus that's right give me back
my license you can see it through the
window I don't have your license
license okay he'll be back with you in a
second so that's what this is this for
the Corona
virus did I not just say that I'm just
clarifying what do you not understand I
guess I don't
understand so you're not worthy to be a
public servant that's not what I said go
give my
drive turn your flashlight
off do what turn your flashlight off I
don't have to I don't want your flash
it's called Plain View it's nothing
legal about it
sorry I I would like to see in your
vehicle to make sure you're not going to
like grab a weapon or anything you grab
a weapon okay who's to say you don't
either put a flashlight on you if you
want okay I'll get a spotlight on you
and I'll put it Shine right in your eyes
how is that going to you going to be
fine with that I'm not shining a light
in your eyes but if you want to do that
that is your right and then what are you
going to do about it not a thing so I so
you tell me I probably shine a
flashlight and you're like that's
fine yeah so I'm going to get the the
highest quality flashlight I'm going to
shining in your light if you would like
I said if you would like to do so yes
and what and what will you do in
retaliation
nothing so list the next officer I see I
can Shine the flashlight in off
you can do whatever you would like sir
and you're not going to use your gun why
would I do that because why are you
putting the glass so I can see it's
dark but there's nothing to see okay if
there's nothing to see there's not a
problem turn I'm asking you turn the
flashlight and I'm telling you
no are you
using to turn the flashlight off yes I
am and you're not worthy of being a
public servant I'm sorry you feel that
way sir work for
me y you're
right you're right I pay taxes too man
yeah but but you don't har
the I really can't hear you man you got
it pretty blocked and it's pretty
muffled when you're talking
okay I'm trying to hear you and hear
your concerns but it's the car's coming
by making noise and you with your window
barely cracked and the sun shade
covering your your auditory tones I I'm
sorry if I can't hear
you what do you want I'm not asking for
anything sir okay turn the light off not
happening go
[Applause]
away I
help I
[Music]
help yeah no thank you okay
well I don't care what he will keep my
license back turn the flashlight
off uh I cannot see with this
light what do you
want can you tell he's not going to turn
his flashlight off just like I'm not
what do you
want
you'll have to roll the window down and
speak to
him what's
that what's that okay don't shine the
flashlight in my face sir I'm going to
I'm going to shine my flashlight in your
car so I can see
you if you have one you're more than
welcome T
sir if you if you have one you're more
than welcome to but I promise you my
lights are a lot more a lot brighter
than yours I get the
bright okay so do you understand what
I'm saying to you
sir I'm telling you there's going to be
there going to be a deputy that shows up
to make sure that you're okay to
drive okay well that's that's going to
be up to you he's going to explain your
options to you okay no I'm not I'm not
done with
it I I already told you sir so sit tight
don't go anywhere where you coming from
man I'm not your friend and I know
you're not my friend either I mean I
never said that ask any questions all
you do is try to it's just casual
conversation that's all it
is I mean I don't think there's anything
wrong with me asking you where you're
going when you're in a
car look this is the last time the last
time for what stop shining the
flashlight on okay
no
your your flashlight is
a
uh a form of a weapon not really yes it
is it's Illuminating device no it's not

light inside this vehicle and it's
hurting my eye I'm sorry turn your
flashlight off no for the fifth
time the arriving officer's image and
voice were redacted by Martin County
