Police can't legally steal your money during a traffic stop. We're talking about what some courts have called policing for profit. We're talking about the police seizing money or assets, cars, jewelry, houses, bank accounts, obviously cash, because they think that it's involved in criminal activity. It's important when the cops do it that they do it the right way. Let's just say you're going through the airport and you have a lot of money in your bag cuz you're going to buy something in another city and you have to use cash. TSA might stop you and seize your money thinking that it's drug money. They have to prove a nexus to illegal activity in order to keep your money. It's not as easy as it used to be. Now there's a really strict statute on it. The laws are complicated and you're going to need a good lawyer. Sometimes you spend more than the money they took. Are you going to spend five grand to get back 2,500? No, probably not. Do the police know that? Yeah, they know that and sometimes that's why they do it.
